“SO SHE’S 80 OR 20?”
— Did you meet when he came to interview you?
- No. He didn't take it. Fima Zakharov, who was featured at the Mosconcert when I arrived in Moscow. And Yura had a “Debuts” section in the magazine “Youth”. Young artists with premiere performances always ended up in this column. And Fima Zakharov told him: “There was a competition of pop artists. And there some girl won first prize.” And Fima Zakharov came to write about me. Then he brought the material to Yura. "How old is she?" Fima replies: “I don’t know. - Yes. He was Yuri Leonidovich. This is some kind of tradition from the past. We already had Masha. I told him: “Yuri Leonidovich!” It wasn't like a joke. Seriously. A very long time. For me, Arkady Mikhailovich Arkanov has always been Arkan. And with “you”. And there are people who will be called “you” to me to this day. And by name and patronymic. Although we drank many times, we became familiar with each other.
— Zhvanetsky?
— Michal Mikhalych. On "you". Although we have known each other since the first “Humorina” in Odessa, since 1973. We met when he, Roman Kartsev and Viktor Ilchenko played in an underground theater. Actually, I went to the pop artist competition only because I saw Ilchenko, Kartsev and Zhvanetsky. It was a discovery for me! And I decided that I wanted it too. I came from Kyiv to Moscow for this competition.

— Is this what you consider your first success?
- Certainly. You have no idea! Not a single competition has given such an ascension as the competition of pop artists. Back then it was like getting a serious title. I was the winner of the first prize at the All-Union Competition of Variety Artists (in 1974 - author). I will tell you the names of other laureates. These were Kartsev and Ilchenko, “Pesnyary” - in the previous one. On mine - Alla Borisovna Pugacheva, Gennady Khazanov, Tõnis Mägi, Jaak Joala. Then Konnikov, a very famous pop director, told us: “I wish that your surnames become first names!” So all the surnames became first names.
