And, despite his 39 years, Dan Balan looks very young. The girls look at him enthusiastically and undoubtedly want to get to know the star better. Such a chance can come at any time, for each of them. Because the guy's heart is free.
Dan Balan's photos in his youth and now are not very different, of course, the age-related facial features have changed and the physical indicators are not the same as at 20 years old. But this absolutely did not change the singer’s youthfulness and even gave him additional charm.
In general, you can’t even tell from the photographs that this is a forty-year-old man; no one gives him more than 30 years.
Childhood and family
Our hero was born into a prosperous, wealthy family of a diplomat and a popular TV presenter. Father, Mihai Balan, worked at the Moldovan Embassy and in 2012 headed the country’s Information and Security Service. Mother, Lyudmila Balan, is a Moldovan television star, the host of entertainment shows, including the local analogue of the program “Good night, kids.” Dan has a younger sister, Sanda, who followed in her mother’s footsteps and also works in television.
Dan Balan in childhood
Dan was born at a time when his parents were actively building their careers. Therefore, until he was three years old, he lived with his grandmother in the small village of Trebujeni, one of the most beautiful natural corners of Moldova. The majestic rocks surrounding the village, the river running along the bottom of the canyon, and ancient monasteries, securely hidden from prying eyes in deep stone caves, remained forever in the memory of the creative, impressionable boy. From an early age, he loved to walk through the forest and enjoy the beauty and grandeur of pristine nature in silence.
Dan Balan's parents are a TV star and diplomat
When Dan was three years old, his parents took him to the city. A completely different life began there, which also appealed to the inquisitive, restless little one. His mother often took him with her to work, showed her son how the television “kitchen” worked, and when the boy grew older, she began to involve him in entertainment shows. At first, Dan read simple poems and sang children’s songs, which aroused affection among his mother’s colleagues. Over time, he stopped being afraid of the camera, learned to stand confidently on stage and began to enjoy everyone's attention.
At the age of six, the boy became interested in poetry and began to write poetry little by little. His favorite poet was Mihai Eminescu, who, like Dan himself, found inspiration in the forest, hugging the trees. This inner need has been preserved by our hero to this day; he still loves to walk among the pines, which give him new creative ideas.
Dan Balan in his school years
Another hobby of young Balan was sports. The boy was involved in athletics, basketball and volleyball, played on the school football team and showed great promise.
Everything changed at the age of ten, when his parents gave him an accordion and enrolled him in a music school. Dan quickly mastered the instrument, at the same time learned to play the piano and guitar, and began to compose music himself. At first it was waltzes and melodies in the classical genre, later our hero, like many of his peers, became interested in rock music and even organized his own group.
In 1994, the family moved to Israel, where its head was offered the position of consul. During the year and a half spent abroad, Dan mastered several foreign languages at the Scottish Embassy School and made significant progress in his music studies.
Personal life
Given his fruitful musical career, Dan does not have time for relationships, so some began to suspect the singer of being gay. But this is nothing more than speculation and gossip of envious people, since there is no confirmation of these rumors. Moreover, Balan often gets caught by the paparazzi in the company of bright beauties. So, in 2013, he was seen in the arms of world champion pole dancer Vardanush Martirosyan. Together they vacationed on the Cote d'Azur in France.
Talking about his personal life, Balan admitted that he had three girls with whom he built serious relationships. The artist did not mention the names of his chosen ones. A few years later, journalists managed to find out that Dan Balan was still married, and registered the relationship even before he became famous, in 2004. The artist's wife's name is Ella Krupenina.
She gave birth to his wife's son Alan, whose existence he carefully hid from the public. In 2009, the relationship broke up; according to rumors, the reason was Ella’s jealousy and mistrust.

Dan Balan with his mother
After the divorce, the media began to attribute Dan to a relationship with Tina Karol. The couple began to appear frequently in public and openly flirt with each other. They performed on stage together, singing a duet into one microphone; it seemed that the passionate duet was about to end with a kiss. When asked directly what connects him with Tina, Dan replied: “A novel written by the hand of a genius.”
However, not all fans believe in the sincerity of this relationship, believing that the stars aligned only for the sake of PR. In February 2020, fans found on Instagram photos of Dan together with a young girl who turned out to be a Kharkov student, and decided that she was the singer’s real chosen one. Balan himself refused to confirm these rumors.
In addition to music, the singer is also interested in sports, trying to keep himself in great shape. As a child, he participated in athletics and showed promise as a football player. Now Dan has switched to home workouts, because due to his busy schedule he does not have time to go to the gym. The man's weight is 73 kg and his height is 190 cm.
The beginning of a creative journey
Returning to his homeland, Dan successfully graduated from the prestigious Gheorghe Asachi Lyceum and, at the insistence of his father, entered the Faculty of Law of the University of Chisinau.
For this, the head of the family gave his son the long-promised synthesizer, believing that studying music would not interfere with his future career. But Dan had completely different thoughts on this matter; he devoted all his free time to his own group Inferialis, which performed music in the gothic-doom-rock style. At first, the guys played in abandoned factories and construction sites to give their performances the necessary ambiance. Later they began organizing concerts in clubs, participated in rock festivals and, with the help of Dan’s mother, even appeared on television.
Creativity of the group Inferialis (audio) However, soon our hero, who was the author of all the musical compositions of the group and had an excellent production sense, realized that with a rock band he was unlikely to be able to sell out stadiums and gain worldwide fame. He decided to switch to “pop” and create a boy band, similar to the youth groups that were fashionable at that time. In addition, he already had several ready-made compositions written in a light modern genre.
Dan Balan before becoming famous
Friends did not support his idea; only Peter Zhelikhovsky remained with Dan. But there was no stopping Balan - he completely abandoned his studies and plunged headlong into a new project.
O-Zone Group
In 1999, a newly formed group called O-Zone released their first debut album “Dar, Unde Ești...” and very soon became famous throughout Moldova. The mother's connections in television and radio contributed to the rapid success, and by the end of the year, seven songs from the album took first place in the charts of popular radio stations in the country. In gratitude, Dan undertook to produce Lyudmila Balan’s new TV show, Tanti Ludmila Show, for which he wrote several songs.
Dan Balan and the group O-zone
The group's popularity grew, and the more unexpected was Zhelikhovsky's sudden decision to leave the band. Dan did not give up on his dream and began to look for new participants. Peter's place was taken by two vocalists at once - Arseniy Todirash and Radu Sirbu. With them, Balan recorded a demo version of the new album, which he decided to offer to a Romanian recording studio. Dan sent his beautiful mother to negotiate with the management, who coped with the task perfectly.
In 2001, the Cat music label presented the second album of the O-Zone group “Number 1”. A video clip was shot for the first composition “Numai tu”, which received the first MTV Music Awards in Romania in 2002. The second track “Despre Tine” immediately topped the country’s main music chat, where it stayed for a record seventeen weeks. In 2003, the group won two categories at once at the MTV Romania Music Awards and was nominated for the MTV Europe Music Awards as the best Romanian group.
O-Zone – Humai Tu But world recognition came to the band after the release of the single “Dragostea Din Tei” from the third album DiscO-Zone (2004). Real “ozonomania” began - the song topped the musical charts of four dozen countries and sold around the world with a circulation of 12 million copies. Balan's hit took eighteenth place on the list of best-selling singles in the history of music; it was covered by 200 performers in 14 languages. The album DiscO-Zone received gold and platinum status in many countries and became the group's most successful collection (3.5 million copies). O-Zone – Dragostea Din Tei The news about the breakup of the group sounded like a bolt from the blue to the army of millions of fans. At the very peak of success, the band unexpectedly ceased to exist, performing its last concert in September 2005. Dan Balan and the rest of the group did not make any statements in the press, but the reason was apparently quite serious, since over the next twelve years the musicians did not even communicate with each other.
O-Zone reunion turned out to be temporary
In 2020, the group had a historic reunion at a concert in Bucharest dedicated to May 9th. The public greeted their favorites with delight, expressing hope for the continuation of their joint activities. However, the musicians, having played the concert, again went about their business, promising the fans to organize a similar meeting again someday.

It is known that the artist is not married and has no children.
Solo career
After the collapse of O-Zone, Balan again decided to return to rock music and went to Los Angeles, where, with the help of American musicians, he recorded a solo rock album. The co-producer was Jack Joseph Puig, who previously worked with such world stars as Eric Clapton and The Rolling Stones.
After the collapse of O-Zone, Dan Balan took the pseudonym Crazy Loop
But the album was never released, and some of the material from it became the basis for Balan’s new solo project Crazy Loop. Under this stage name, the singer released several energetic dance tracks that appealed to European listeners (Balan had already left the States by that time). A distinctive feature of the new project was that Dan performed his songs in a falsetto that was unusual for him. Having firmly established himself in Russian show business, the singer released several more hot hits, which were included in his next solo album, “Freedom” (2012). In support of it, Balan went on a large-scale tour of the cities and countries of the CIS, and at the end of the year he collected a bountiful harvest of prestigious music awards.
The year 2013 was marked by a new successful experiment in Balan’s creative career. This time the video was shot by director Alan Badoev, who knows a lot about fashion trends, and the musician personally chose the sultry beauties for filming, after viewing more than 300 applicants. Another collaboration between Balan and Badoev is a touching video for the song “Love,” in which the popular Russian actress Ekaterina Vilkova starred.
