The act, as well as the actor’s “make-up”, that is, putting a black stocking on his head, gave rise to many parodies. Nikolai Lukinsky was awarded the unofficial title “Honored Negro of Russia.”
Childhood and youth
Nikolai Lukinsky was born in Novosibirsk on July 20, 1960 into a family of Soviet workers. He had a brother. The boys were raised in modesty, and a warm and friendly atmosphere reigned in the house. The Lukinskys valued a sense of humor, so Nikolai’s positive attitude never left him.
The parents worked a lot, and the brothers were often left to their own devices. Their upbringing lay on the shoulders of their grandmother. The elderly woman taught her grandchildren a lot. Among the special skills that the Lukinskys acquired from her was knitting. This later Nikolai will conquer his future wife and mother-in-law.
Lukinsky was fond of sports and was involved in the boxing section. Training gave him pleasure, and competition brought excitement. True, the novice athlete did not demonstrate global achievements. In high school, he managed to win the championship title at city competitions among schoolchildren. In his 1st year at the institute, Nikolai was a competition winner. The young man’s hobbies also included wood carving. One day, with the help of his talent, Lukinsky won a cash reward of 40 rubles, which was ¼ of the average monthly salary of a Soviet citizen.
After graduating from school, Nikolai Lukinsky entered the Novosibirsk Institute of Water Transport, and then studied at the branch of the Moscow Energy Institute in Smolensk. After that he joined the army. The soldier served in a city called Mozdok. There, the young man performed the duties of an aircraft equipment adjuster and carried out equipment diagnostics. — The coaches say you are the most prepared participant...
- So I’m training hard. I was not immediately approved to replace Chelobanov. I didn’t know until recently whether I would be invited or not. But I started training anyway. I jogged 5-6 times a week: I got up at 6 am and ran 7 kilometers. I went to the gym to pump myself up. So when they said “Come!”, I was mentally and physically ready.
— My wife, I think, was not delighted with your decision...
— My wife Irina and I have been together for 28 years. I've been in love with her since first grade. How might she react? She supports me in everything. Last year, I was also invited to take part in the “King of the Ring”. But then I got sick and had to refuse. And then I couldn’t find a place for myself - I wanted to participate so much. I watched all the episodes. Ira, seeing my worries, said: “If they call you next time, be sure to agree!” And they finally called me. She rejoiced with me.
- And you came to cheer?
- Yes. And I, knowing that she was in the hall, did what I shouldn’t have done - I started a banal fight in the ring. I decided to show: look, my love, your husband is a real man! As a boxer, I understand that fighting in the ring is very dangerous. In the heat of the moment he could seriously damage his opponent. It’s good that I switched gears in time and started acting like a sportsman.
— Do you have enough health?
- There are no injuries. But my back was not ready, and pain began due to physical activity. So far I'm coping with it. It is more difficult to cope with lack of time. I’m taking the exam now (Lukinsky is a student at the directing department of GITIS. - Author’s note), and with great difficulty they gave me permission to attend relatively freely.
— As a student and a boxer, you should certainly have your own signs of good luck. Tell me which ones?
— I have one sign: to train as much as possible (in the case of studies, to study) and listen to the coach. I don't believe in the rest.
— Is it generally scary to go into the ring?
- Not that word! The veins are shaking and sparks are pouring out of the eyes. So I have at least some experience. What about the guys who didn’t wear gloves at all? I honestly admire their courage.

Nikolai Lukinsky admits that it was his parents who helped him choose his future specialization. Especially the untimely departed father. He loved listening to humorous programs on the radio so much that he could even punish his little son for disturbing him.
“You can say that dad instilled in me a love of humor. Until a certain age, I was sure that the best thing that can be in art is that it is funny. When the “Good Morning” program was on the radio, you couldn’t make noise at that time; you could get a belt from your father. And he sat and laughed,” the artist admitted.
Generations replace each other and now new members of Nikolai Lukinsky’s family are growing up - grandchildren. The youngest daughter Daria has a growing son, Alyosha, who is seven years old. And the eldest Olga moved to Spain (to Barcelona) and married a black man named Mandella. “I see that they have true love,” the artist emphasized. Their son, Christopher, was born three years ago. According to his grandparents, the boy is a mulatto, café au lait color. They love their cute grandson, whom they affectionately call “little doll.”
