Then she went to Moscow and in 2009 submitted documents to the Institute of Theater Arts, to the directing department of an acting group. I studied the basics of transforming into various characters in Sergei Zhenovach’s course. Gromova’s debut on stage took place during her student years. Then she played Yula in the production of “The Village”, in the play “The Impossible” Vera.
After graduating from high school in 2013, she found herself in the main cast of the Theater Art Studio troupe, where she portrayed an emancipated lady in Notebooks, Maria Lukyanova in The Suicide, and Margarita in a play based on the novel by Mikhail Bulgakov. The artist performed in the tragicomedy “An Easy Way to Quit Smoking” and at the same time collaborated with the Center for Drama and Directing.
Professional activity
Later, Evgenia went to Moscow, where from 2009 to 2013 she studied at the directing department of the acting group of the Institute of Theater Arts (GITIS). The girl studied creative skills at the course of the Honored Artist (2006) Zhenovach Sergei Vasilyevich (born in 1957).
During her studies, Evgenia played in the following performances: “Chekhov. Favorites" (The General), "Liebe" (Ataman Karl Moor), "The Impossible" (Vera) and "Village" (Yula).
After graduating from a theater university in 2013, the young actress was accepted into the Theatrical Art Studio (STI) troupe . Among the theatrical productions in which Evgenia participated are: “Notebooks” (the role of an emancipated lady), “A Seedy Role” (Ksenia Matveevna), “The Suicide” (Maria Lukyanova), “Moscow-Petushki” (Daria), as well as "The Master and Margarita" (Margarita).

He made his film debut in 2009 as the character of a nurse in the dramatic parable “May 9. Personal attitude." The project became the starting point for a young aspiring film actress. The third film work in which the actress starred became significant for her, since she immediately played the main role in it. This project was the tragicomedy directed by Yulia Belaya “City Birds” (2015), where the girl played the role of an administrator in a hostel - Rita.
The series “Female Praying Mantis” with Daria Klyukina, Marusya Fomina and Marina Vasilyeva
The filmography of the aspiring but quite promising actress is small, it amounts to about 10 film projects. From 2020 to 2019, Evgenia took part in only two projects , but she played leading roles in them.
These films are the following films: the crime detective directed by Pyotr Amelin “Diamond Endgame” (the role of Maya Maretskaya) and the melodrama directed by Nigina Sayfullaeva “Loyalty” (the role of Lena). For the first time, Evgenia developed not only a professional relationship, but also a friendly one, with the director of the latest film.

Evgenia Gromova in 2020
Gromova runs a page on Instagram, where she regularly publishes personal photos. Most of the photographs were captured during the artist’s vacation in different countries; there are photographs from the beach in a swimsuit and shots taken in beautiful places in foreign cities.
How did the filming go?
The filming process took place in Moscow, Dubna and Kimry. In the capital, Red Square had to be closed for one day in order to film a scene with two hundred people who portrayed city guests and foreigners of the 80s.
In order to best convey the atmosphere of Soviet times, costume designer Olga Pogodina collected clothes from flea markets and various consignment stores.
Filming of the series lasted about six months. It was necessary to film in different seasons, but unfortunately for the film crew, the winter turned out to have little snow. So we had to use fake snow and put white sheets in the background.
The main female role in the series went to theater and film actress Glafira Tarkhanova . She first appeared on screen in the film “Theater Blues” (2003), playing Fiona Boguslavskaya. The girl said that her greatest success came after “Gromovyh”.
She received a lot of positive feedback from the audience, although at first she was afraid to star in the series, since she had more experience directly in theatrical productions. The actress said that there was a case when she was offered to star in the series “Amphibian Man,” but she refused because she was playing at that time in the play “Profitable Place.”

Evgenia Gromova now
At the end of October 2020, the premiere of the dramatic film “Fidelity” by director and co-screenwriter Nigina Saifullaeva took place, where Evgenia got the main female role, the main male character was played by Alexander Pal. In addition to them, Alexey Agranovich, Marina Vasilyeva, Pavel Vorozhtsov and others worked in the film.
Evgenia Gromova and Alexander Pal (still from the film “Fidelity”)
Gromova appeared in the image of Lena, an obstetrician-gynecologist. In the center of the plot she is with her husband Sergei, who plays in a provincial theater. The lack of intimate life makes a woman think about her husband’s betrayal. Instead of understanding the problem, she begins to cheat on him herself, which leads to sad consequences.
The film was not without sex scenes, but in an interview Gromova said that she had talked everything out and discussed it with the director in advance, and therefore working on erotic episodes did not bring her discomfort.
Evgenia Gromova: “Evgeny Tsyganov brought me to the cinema”
The creators of “Fidelity” have already received the Special Prize of the “Kinotavr” jury, and film critics speak favorably of Evgenia Gromova’s work. Still from the film
This year, in the program of the anniversary “Kinotavr”, a new tendency in Russian cinema emerged - to speak boldly and clearly about deeply personal things. The most noticeable, emotional and stylish film of the competition was Nigina Saifullaeva’s drama “Loyalty,” which ultimately received the Special Jury Prize. The film is finally released in wide release in October. Especially for NG, film reviewer Olga GALITSKAYA spoke with the lead actress, Evgenia GROMOVA, about eroticism in cinema, secret fears and personal freedom.
– Zhenya, how did you meet Nigina Sayfullaeva, how did your common work begin?
- It's simple. I was called to audition. I remember the scenes that I played then. This is the moment when Anya Kotova becomes my patient. We read the scene where she says her husband is a “redskin.” She said it so coolly and funnyly that I laughed all the time, so they left it that way. Then she came again, we had already auditioned with Sasha Pal. It was a very pleasant surprise for me. Because we have known each other for a long time. It turned out to be a wonderful audition, this happens when you meet someone you’ve known for a long time, we got to talking, and somehow everything came together very easily.
– When you read the script, did it scare or shock you?
“It’s not that it didn’t scare me, quite the opposite, it was probably the best script I’ve read.” And everything was told there so beautifully. Lyuba Mulmenko is generally a wonderful author. All the feelings were written down, they were clear and close to me, I had the feeling that I had read some wonderful novel. I really wanted to try out successfully and dreamed of playing in this story of Nigina Saifullaeva.
– You are also a director. First, as far as I know, we studied to become an actress in St. Petersburg, and later we went to study directing with Sergei Zhenovach.
– It was a directing department, but an acting group. Before that, I studied for a year in St. Petersburg, and after another year in Moscow - at the Shchukin School. She left everywhere, looking for her own workshop, where she could open up. Then I found out that Sergei Vasilyevich was taking the course, and decided to take a risk and try to enroll again. And he took me. This was very useful to me, because now I work as a director in Norway.
– Do you perform in a professional theater?
– I do plays at a theater college. I staged two plays in a year – Brecht’s “The Good Man of Szechwan” and created a composition based on Chekhov, which was somewhat feminist. I took female dialogues from various of his plays and mixed them. In this play of mine, women sit at a table and speak with lines from famous plays by Chekhov. The Norwegians really liked this. They liked these arguments, eternal conversations, when we get together, talk about life, that we need to work, we need to do something, and we continue to sit. Maybe this is a Russian mentality, but it turned out to be completely understandable to the Norwegians. Although they are completely different, they also love to think and philosophize.
– Was Alexander Pal also a student of Zhenovach?
– No, he studied with Leonid Kheifetz, a year older than me.
– Did you immediately become friends then?
- Well, yes, we were comrades, quickly found a common language, and have been friends ever since.
– When Pahl starred in the comedy “Bitter!”, he somehow quickly acquired the image of such a, one might say, silly, crazy guy, although not without charm. In "Fidelity" he is completely different, an adult, handsome, modern young man.
– Yes, and I’m very happy for Sasha. He really is a multifaceted actor. And it’s great if viewers and other directors see it in a new way.
– When you started filming “Fidelity,” did you already know and understand everything about your character?
– It’s not that everything was completely clear, but due to the fact that two weeks before the start of filming we met with Sasha and Nigina every day, rehearsed, tried to understand in detail the words and actions of the characters, we went to the set already well prepared.
– What do you think of your heroine? What is she like?
– You know, due to the fact that she has such a wonderful profession, she is a gynecologist, that is, a person who helps women find the joy of motherhood, this gives a special feeling of concentration and responsibility. At the same time, it often happens that a person is good at work, knows his job and is confident in himself, but at home he does not have such openness and confidence that everything is right in his own life. The problem is that my heroine is happy with her job, she is freely and easily ready to discuss professional issues, but at home she cannot simply talk with her husband about what concerns the two of them. This is where it all begins: spouses cannot begin to speak frankly. I know many such women and men. They don’t know how to talk to each other, they are afraid of something, they cannot overcome their complexes. You can be a brilliant artist, a doctor, a specialist in any field, but in life you cannot speak out loud your secret fears. That's how she is.
– Funny coincidence. In two competition films of Kinotavr at once - in "Loyalty" and in "Let's get a divorce!" Anna Parmas - heroines experiencing a crisis in family life, are gynecologists by profession. Why do you think?
– Probably because this is a very feminine, such a special, secret profession. Nigina and Lyuba Mulmenko, when working on the script, chose something close to the character of Lena, my heroine. Something that would give rise to everything that happens to her and reveal her personality.
– After the premiere, I talked about “Fidelity” with one of my old acquaintances, he is a famous actor. So he said that he and many of his male friends were outraged that Lena’s husband demanded from her a story about how and what she had with casual lovers, thirsting for details. Like, this can’t happen, men don’t talk like that, don’t ask for details of their wives’ intimate relationships with others. What do you think about it?
– I have an answer to this question. I personally know a man who took a long time to admit, but eventually agreed, that he finds it very exciting when his woman has fun with someone else. That is, initially he experiences jealousy, anger and almost hates her. But in the end, delving into himself, he realizes that in fact this excites him terribly and he can’t do anything about it. So perhaps such male indignation reveals emotions that they are not ready to admit to themselves. I think so.
– For our cinema, “Fidelity” is a new level of openness, fear of physicality and personal experiences. Almost for the first time in our cinema, erotic scenes do not make a repulsive impression. What was your impression of the filming? What was the most difficult?
– If everything was difficult for us, if we only tried to be as natural as possible, but inside we felt some embarrassment, were constrained and overcame something within ourselves, then you as a viewer would definitely feel it. But everything worked out organically for us, because we trusted each other and understood what we were playing about. The magic that arose on the set is always transmitted to the audience.
– Do you think explicit scenes and direct display of sexual contacts are necessary in principle?
– Only if it is justified by history itself. If everything in the film is aesthetically consistent and truly necessary. I would really like to see more films about a variety of relationships between people appear in Russia. To make it clear that people tend to feel attracted to each other. That love has many faces. And that same-sex relationships also happen, there is nothing shameful, much less criminal, about it. We just have a very strange mentality, we tend to be afraid of a lot, to push our fears inside. I live in Norway now, and I understand that our film would not have made the slightest shock impression on them. They would simply understand what we are talking about and delve into the story itself. Therefore, I would like to say: guys, let’s continue filming about everything, let’s take one more step towards each person, no matter what he is. Because our body is no less than our face, there is no need to be afraid of its desires, because it is all of us.
– Zhenya, how did it happen that you live in Norway?
– I married a Norwegian and moved to Oslo with him. We also live in Skanes. This is a small town, I stage plays there, we rent a house there, it’s more convenient for work. I’m learning Norwegian, and, oddly enough, it turned out to be easier than English. If there are interesting offers and good scripts in Russia, then I will come.
– I studied your, so far small, filmography and saw that you played your first role in the anthology “May 9th”, I remembered you there.
– Zhenya Tsyganov, yes. In his short story "Personal Attitude". The fact is that when I was a student at GITIS, Oleg Dolin studied with me, this is Anton Dolin’s brother. And Oleg is friends with Zhenya, and he invited him to our show, it was the first course, we didn’t even play excerpts, but etudes. And then Zhenya came and called me to the almanac, took me to the cinema, and starred in his short story. This was my debut. I hope to see him again at work.
– What does the concept of “loyalty” mean to you?
– This is your personal truth, which you recognize, whatever it may be. She can sometimes be cruel, even murderous. “Loyalty” is not always a positive word, but it has inner strength. Loyalty for me means - do not betray yourself, be honest, first of all, with yourself.
