Anna Koshmal celebrates her birthday: career and personal life of Zhenya from the series “Matchmakers”

Biography

Anna Koshmal was born and raised in the capital of Ukraine in the family of a military man and a teacher. Anya says about her family: “Dad is a military man, he retired as a lieutenant colonel. I can say that it was simply created for the army. He absolutely loves technology and weapons, he is amazingly versed in physics, and in his youth he constantly participated in school Olympiads. And he really loves order. At the age of sixteen, without hesitation, he entered the military school in Nizhny Novgorod. After graduating from military school, he met his mother in his native Nezhin. She herself was born in Leipzig, where her father, also a military man, served. Then my mother’s family returned to their homeland, to Kupyansk, and she went to study in Nizhyn. They got married, and then dad was sent to serve in Kyiv. And Seryozha and I have already appeared in Kyiv.

My brother is six years older than me. Before I was born, he dreamed of a little brother with whom he could play football or on the Dandy console, but a sister was born - a girl who was capricious all the time, who had to be protected from hooligans on the street. And as teenagers, we often quarreled over the computer. We began to understand each other and finally get along only when I was about seventeen, and he was, accordingly, twenty-four. Actually, when Seryozha was already married. Now we are on excellent terms. And as a child, my brother and I were not particularly close. True, no one offended me in the yard: everyone knew that Koshmal had an older brother, which means there was no need to touch Koshmal. This was my advantage.

Mom is an English teacher, and in addition, she has been working as a head teacher for many years. And I studied at her school, a specialized school with in-depth study of the English language. I’ll tell you more: my aunt, my mother’s sister, and my godmother worked at the same school with my mother, and they are also English teachers. We studied foreign languages from the first grade, and my godmother was our teacher. And in the fifth grade, my mother became my class teacher.

Being the goddaughter of a teacher, the daughter of a class teacher and head teacher is a big responsibility. You always have to serve as an example for others so as not to undermine your mother’s authority. So, as soon as the opportunity presented itself to escape from school after the ninth grade, I did not doubt it for a moment. Although I graduated from school with honors.” Since childhood, the future artist studied at a music school and dance studio, from where she got an audition for the popular series “Matchmakers-5”. She recalls: “I went to the creativity center, where the casting director of the series came to look at the girls for the role of Zhenya. During the screening, there were only three candidates left, and I was one of them. Out of this three, director Andrei Yakovlev chose me. I was happy: such a chance! But the film crew had to persuade the school administration for a very long time to let me film, because in the first years students are not allowed to engage in acting at all. I went to the shoot with the goal of learning from my colleagues - famous actors, and adopting the best from them. After filming, my views on different things changed a lot, I became more responsible.” Anna graduated from the Kiev Variety and Circus School, vocal department. Then she continued her studies at the Academy of Theater Arts. She was immediately enrolled in the third year. “I went into directing. I thought about rushing to one of the theater universities in Moscow, especially since Tatyana Kravchenko and Fyodor Dobronravov convinced my parents that I had all the data for the acting profession. But I changed my mind. Largely because of Lyubov Aleksandrovna Cherepakhina, who reads directing with us. This is a teacher from God, she has already given me a lot,” admits Koshmal.
