Actor's childhood
Gojko Mitić was born on June 13, 1940 in the Yugoslav village of Strojkovce, into a simple peasant family. His father worked on agricultural lands, and when World War II began, he joined the partisans. His father has always been a real hero and role model for Goiko. The boy loved to listen to his stories about the war. From him he adopted such qualities as honesty, fearlessness and justice.
In the absence of his father, his mother raised Goiko and his younger brother. Her grandparents helped her. It was the grandmother who had a huge influence on the formation of the personality of the future actor. She instilled in the boys that drinking and smoking are harmful, and instilled a love for a healthy and active lifestyle.
Goiko's childhood was fun and active. Living in the countryside, he constantly climbed trees, ran through vineyards, and drank fresh buffalo milk. Goiko was so active that his grandmother decided to send him to school a year earlier than expected.

Childhood, family
The boy comes from a Yugoslav village, his parents are peasants. From his father, Zivojin Mitic, Gojko inherited his nationality - Serb. The man first managed farmland, but when World War II began, he went to join the partisans. In addition to their mother, their grandfather and grandmother raised their sons. After the bombing carried out by NATO, the mother passed away. They started bombing at night. The woman became speechless due to severe stress, then lost her appetite, and a few days later her heart could not stand it. The grandmother, as best she could, replaced the child’s mother. It was thanks to this strict elderly woman that the guy disliked alcohol and did not become addicted to tobacco. Goiko independently shaped his figure and body. He was interested in many sports. Handball, football, athletics, gymnastics and rowing - all this was useful to the future actor in his professional activities.
Youth
Even as a child, Gojko Mitic became interested in handball, football, athletics and rowing. In his youth, he was even a member of the national rowing team. Goiko's skills in this sport greatly helped him when, as an Indian, he had to swim on a pirogue. But that was later. And in those days he dreamed of becoming a coach. Going towards his goal, Gojko entered the Belgrade Institute of Physical Education.
From the biography of Gojko Mitic
Gojko Mitic was born on June 13, 1940.
His place of birth is Leskovac (Yugoslavia). The Serbian actor became especially famous in the Soviet Union, becoming an integral part of adventure cinema. His athletic, fit, athletic figure, expressive appearance - all this attracted the viewer. Gojko Mitic is recognized as the best “cinema” Indian of all time. The future actor’s childhood began in Nazi-occupied Yugoslavia. Together with his brother, Goiko was raised by his grandparents. There he developed a love for an active lifestyle. Mitich always had a negative attitude towards tobacco and alcoholic beverages. The boy grew up in a friendly family, although his grandmother tried to raise the children in strictness. Goiko's father was engaged in agriculture before the war. During the years of occupation, he became a participant in the partisan movement.
In his youth, Goiko led a sporty lifestyle: he learned horse riding early and never missed the opportunity to climb mountains. He knew how to jump and fence. Dashingly went skiing. Studying at a sports academy helped improve my physical fitness. The skills he acquired in those years allowed him to become not only an actor, but also a stuntman.
First steps in cinema
But apparently, Goyko was destined to become an actor. Sports brought Mitic to the cinema. A strong, athletic guy was invited to film as a stuntman who would double for the main character. His debut work in this role was the English film “Lancelot and the Queen” (at that time many foreign films were shot in Yugoslavia).
Later, Goiko began to often take part in crowd scenes. Without even noticing it, he fell in love with the world of cinema. Of course, it turned out to be not so easy - to play a role with a text, and not just be a member of the crowd, but Mitich realized that his calling was acting, there was no turning back. Thus, without having an acting education, Goiko starred in 5 films. These were pictures about Indians.

Letters with declarations of love came to him in the hundreds. But Gojko Mitic was not the only one who basked in female attention. Directors also began to notice him.
Carier start
Gojko Mitic was born on June 13, 1940 in the small village of Strojkovce in Serbia. The territory where the future artist was born was occupied by German invaders, so he and his brother Dragan were sent to live with their grandmother in Belgorod.
From early childhood, the boy was interested in a variety of training, paying special attention to physical activity and the gym.

Goiko's favorite sports were handball and football, but he achieved his greatest success in athletics and gymnastics.
A healthy lifestyle without smoking and alcohol with intense physical activity predetermined the choice of profession.
Having received a diploma of secondary education, Mitich entered the Belgorod Institute to major in physical education, deciding to become a coach.
The young athlete was easily able to perform dangerous stunts where other actors needed understudies. Therefore, in 1960, Mitich decided to try himself as a stuntman in films in order to improve his financial situation.
For the first time, Goyko tried himself as an understudy for the main character of the film in the English film “Lancelot and the Queen,” released in 1961.
It was in this incredible image that he was noticed by the director of the Italian film “The Venetian Catacombs” of 1962, who invited the aspiring actor to play a small but bright role.
The first images in films were of great importance in the life of a stuntman. The talented Gojko Mitic attracted the attention of screenwriters and directors, who began to invite him to roles in their films.
Having never thought about a career as a film actor, Goiko gladly took part in the filming, without even thinking about a career in cinematography.
From 63 to 65 he starred in several West German Westerns as an Indian. The young man's colorful appearance allowed him, by chance, to begin his career in the acting environment.
In 1965, Gojko was invited to play the main role in the Czech film “Sons of the Big Dipper.” The film, directed by József Mach, gathered a large audience and broke all viewing ratings.
Still from the film “Chingachkuk the Second Serpent”
And Gojko Mitic turned into a star, whose biography, all the details about his family and children began to interest a multimillion-dollar public.
Less than a year had passed since the stuntman found himself in the new film by the German director “Chingachkuk - the Big Snake,” which thundered throughout the USSR.
Then Goyko began to regularly appear in leading roles in other equally popular films, appearing in films every year until 1988, which ended with filming in the film “Hunters on the Prairie of Mexico” in the role of an Indian.
The films in which the famous actor and stuntman appeared were filmed not only in Serbia, but also in the USSR, as well as in the Caucasus mountains and on the Crimean peninsula.

Moving to Germany
Thus, the actor received an offer to move to Germany. Gojko Mitic continued to act in films about Indians in East Berlin. This happened thanks to Hans Malich (head of film production at Defa). During a visit to Yugoslavia, he saw a photo of the handsome Mitic and decided to use him in his paintings.
The director was amazed by Mitic's skills, as well as the fact that he speaks German. Thus, the young Yugoslav actor got the main role in the film “Sons of the Big Dipper.” The film was a huge success. And a year later, another successful film was released with Goiko in the title role - “Chingachkuk - the Big Snake.”
Honorary Indian Gojko Mitic
One day, Goyko was urgently invited to a meeting with a German film group, which at that moment was looking for a leading actor for their film - the role of an Indian. They had already seen Mitic’s photo and were delighted and shocked at how similar the young man was to the image of the Indians.
Seeing the young man who came to them, the director and the whole group immediately decided that this was exactly the type they needed - this is how Gojko Mitic became the performer of the role of Tokei Ito in the film “Sons of the Big Dipper”.
After this film, success came to him, but before he had time to recover from it, in 1967, with his participation, the film “Chingachgook - the Big Snake” was released, in which the Yugoslav actor plays the main role - Chingachgook. A year after the film's release in Europe, it was purchased for distribution in the USSR, where Gojko Mitic almost immediately became famous.
The actor was loved not only by the audience for his indescribable beauty and such an unusual type. No one has ever seen an actor so similar to an Indian - tall, beautiful figure, proud look and amazing control of his own body; but he was also loved by the directors in whose films he starred.
The role of an Indian always implied certain physical activities - the ability to ride horses, drive a pirogue, archery - and the actor did not have to learn all this for a long time. Having seen it a couple of times and understood what was required of him, Mitich easily carried out all the instructions of his directors. No one could imagine him in any other image - he was so perfect for his roles.
Afterwards a number of successful films were released: “Tecumseh”, “Trace of the Falcon”, “Ulzana”, “Chief White Feather”.
The last film in the series of Westerns about Indians, in which Mitic played, was the film "Hunter on the Prairie of Mexico."
With each film released, Goyko became more and more popular. Especially among the fairer sex: photographs and posters with him were sold out instantly! But what can we say about girls, when boys, seeing a stately, muscular, strong handsome man who could do anything and was capable of anything, dreamed of being like him. At the peak of Mitic’s popularity, his fans, young men, trained en masse, trying to be like the idol of millions of viewers!
Soviet period
In 1968, films about Indians with the participation of Gojko Mitic began to be shown in Soviet cinemas. This is how the Yugoslav actor was loved in the USSR. Soviet women adored him, all Soviet boys wanted to be like him.

Gojko Mitic began to be invited to appear in Soviet films. So, in the Caucasus, in Georgia, the film “Trace of the Falcon” was filmed. It was not easy for Mitich, because he did not drink alcohol at all; it is impossible to imagine Caucasian hospitality without wine. To refuse without offending anyone, Mitich said that his doctor had forbidden him alcohol and drank healing Caucasian mineral water.
There was also the successful film “Tecumseh,” which was filmed in Crimea, as well as many other films that were filmed in different parts of the vast country.

The tasks facing the filmmakers from the GDR, who made films about Indians, were in fact far from art: their main goal was to counter the influence of American Westerns, which were gaining popularity in Germany, where the conquerors of the continent were depicted in a heroic light, and the indigenous inhabitants - the Indians - looked like savages and almost bandits. Gojko Mitic saw such films as a child and never dreamed of playing an Indian villain. But he ended up in a “red western”, where the roles were distributed completely differently.

On the wave of popularity, Gojko Mitic decided to move from Yugoslavia to the GDR. At first, the actor worked 16-18 hours a day, while receiving very small fees. He was never ambitious and never talked about payment. He lived very modestly, on the outskirts of Berlin, in a rented room. Why didn't he get married?
Gojko Mitic is already 79 years old and has never been married in his entire life. Due to his secretive bachelor lifestyle, journalists even attributed gay sexuality to the actor, which he denied. Goiko was almost never alone, but did not divulge the names of his girlfriends.
Mitich always said that he was not created for marriage. Due to his profession, he had to travel all over the world. Sometimes filming took place without interruption. And there are not many women in the world who will meekly wait at home for their man. This is precisely the reason for his love failures.
