Alexander Konstantinov: “In the family we try to negotiate with each other”

Actor Alexander Konstantinov often plays the roles of deeply positive heroes. However, in real life he was not noticed in any negative stories. The artist is an exemplary husband and father of many children. And he enjoys watching the new season of the series “IP Pirogov”, where he played the role of the main character’s lover, at home in the company of his two sons and daughter. WomanHit.ru talked to the artist, who, like many, is now in self-isolation.

— Alexander, self-isolation is slowly ending. Tell us how you spent this time in quarantine?

— Our life has not changed much during this time, we live comfortably. We start from the children’s routine: wake up, wash, have breakfast, play something with them. The youngest is 2.5 years old and naps during the day. Of course, we mind our own business. His wife Karina has her own website - she cooks food and talks about it. And I either read, or play the guitar, or play the console, like my character Andrei. In general, it’s like this in my life: what happens in the cinema becomes directly or indirectly connected with my real life, or from life goes into the cinema. My characters often have events from my life. Maybe I play such roles because the producers who approve me probably read that this is exactly what happens to me. For example, there was a period when Karinka and I came from India, where we practiced yoga. And in the summer I was cast in a role where I had to play a yogi who came from India and picked up all sorts of esoteric knowledge.

— Do you continue to engage in such practices now?

— Yes, yoga classes are great for self-isolation. You don’t have to go anywhere - everything happens inside one room, inside yourself. These changes give you understanding and awareness that you are doing everything right. For example, you can’t do the splits for a long time, you do some asanas, and in a month or two, in any case, you will have some success in this direction. You understand that this work is productive. And these certain physical and spiritual costs - pain in muscles and joints - give you the opportunity to fight your own feelings and overcome obstacles on the way to your goal. You observe all these changes within yourself without leaving your apartment. Therefore, if people do yoga at home, some other sports activities fade into the background, even into third place.

— You say that you also read books during self-isolation. Anything you particularly liked?

— Yes, for example, Concordia Antarova’s book “Two Lives.” There philosophy, the science of living ethics - serious aspects of life are considered. It seems to me that this is some new direction in my life that has interested me, I want to read more such literature. This is a story in four volumes about a guy who went to meet his brother. And what happened to him is, of course, an amazing story that cannot leave anyone indifferent, because it is directly related to the life of any person: from poor to rich, from young to mature.

— You have three children, how do you survive in self-isolation, being at home with them all the time?

- We are involved in the lives of children, we are allies with them, we do not divide into what is mine and what is yours. In the family, we try to negotiate with each other, respect the freedom, opinion and desire of the other, so we don’t experience much discomfort. It happens that due to the age difference we have conflicts, but we always find a solution. We explain to them that they are not stupid guys. Of course, it happens that they get carried away: children under seven years old can be uncontrollable, they start to get so angry! They might even fight. But we understand that they don’t go outside, they have nowhere to run, so we let them scream. Poor neighbors (laughs), we are very sorry that this is the situation, but we are not to blame for this, we were closed. The children also have classes, they are going to school this year, so they are preparing for it. But in general we are comfortable, there is no such thing as sewing ourselves up or hanging ourselves. And then - this is such a practice for yourself and for your ego. She really likes to spend time with a two-year-old child, get on his level, be with him and play, for example, Peppa Pig. We still have these toys from our older children, we can play with Susie the sheep, Rebecca or Rebecca's mother.

- I see you are aware of fashion trends in children's environment...

- Well, yes, but it’s cool when there is feedback from the child, you are in contact with him, and at this moment the educational process also occurs. Not only his, but also ours: it takes patience and endurance not to get irritated. Yes, we play together. And it’s great when you see that the child is interested, he is immersed in this game. So for me, isolation is a new stage of self-development and self-improvement. For example, my wife and I reconsidered a lot of points about spending money and going to the store. Now we order online - it’s more economical, cheaper, and you don’t buy unnecessary goods that, for example, were lying on the counter, specifically luring you to buy them unconsciously.

Konstantinov has a large, friendly family. Together with his wife, they are raising two sons and a daughter.

- Well, what is your eldest son, who no longer plays Peppa Pig, interested in?

“Klim’s son has very good acting skills, he has no embarrassment, he sings, dances and parodies very well, his imagination works - he can compose a story to the music. He likes to imitate, imitate, make faces, change voices. He himself has been practicing acting for 2 years and also plays sports. Well, he’s so plump and healthy—we call him Emelianenko. But at the same time, he does pull-ups, push-ups, and climbs trees all the time; he taught all the 8-9 year old kids in the yard how to climb a tree. And at the same time, he’s whipped up like a man - he has such muscles, I’m shocked! What kind of hero is he growing into?

— What makes your daughter happy?

— Olivia has well-developed imaginative thinking, she has been drawing for two years, sculpting, and does a little yoga. We didn't have any dancing. They, of course, dance in the kindergarten, but she does not have the same abilities as, for example, the girl Lena Podkaminskaya, who dances very cool.

— Do your children watch projects with your participation?

- Yes, they look, they take it calmly, they don’t have any surprise, curiosity, or excessive attention. They were even on the set of IP Pirogov. We just haven’t seen each other for a long time, I was filming in Kyiv, they then went to the seaside, and I thought that when they come home, I’ll definitely take the guys to work so that they understand why I’m not with them, where I’ve been for so long. I wanted them to know that I work, what I do. Son Klim had previously been on the set of the TV series “The Teacher”; he was even allowed to clap the firecracker once. So the guys are normal, they are not afraid.

— Many actors do not hide the fact that they were left without work, they had some projects postponed, how did the situation turn out for you?

- Nothing has moved for me. The new season of “IP Pirogov” was planned for August. And in December we finished filming this season. It usually doesn’t happen to me that the project is planned six months or a year in advance. I go through the casting immediately when it launches, about a month in advance.

— By the way, tell us what we can expect from the new episodes of IP Pirogov?

— In my opinion, my character Andrei became worse because he found himself in hothouse conditions. He had a back injury, he couldn't walk well and couldn't ride in a wheelchair. He threw up his hands and gave up. The studio disappeared - he sold it to pay off debts on a broken Rolls-Royce, and all the difficulties fell on Vera's shoulders. That's when he started playing the console. But when he saw that he was losing his love, that she was turning away from him, he realized this, tried to return her, but in vain: Vera leaves Andrei.

— What did you remember most about during the filming of such a dramatic plot?

— Throughout the filming, Podkaminskaya was pregnant with her third son. And so the whole season it was a kind of concern for my partner, for Lenka: bring warm clothes, because it was already cold, it was in November-December, pour some tea, give a shoulder massage (laughs). I'm just kidding. But we really took care of Lenka all season, because there was already stress: we were filming for a lot of time, 12-hour shifts, cold pavilions - all this, of course, was difficult. But the team is great, the producers are great, the directors, everyone behind the scenes. All the guys are professionals and very interesting people. And although no out-of-the-ordinary event happened during this time, every day was like a holiday. I have a blast there - I really like IP Pirogov.

— What was it like for you in a wheelchair?

— But there was nothing complicated: it was electric, controlled using a joystick. There were no scenes where you had to ride it for a long time, so you didn’t have to master any special riding skills.

— In each episode we see a large number of sweets in the frame. How did you feel among so many cakes?

- Oh, it wasn't easy! I have a sweet tooth, I stole these sweets from them all the time. The prop people didn’t like me there, of course, because I slowly ate all the macaroons that were on display. I even said: “Guys, here’s your money, buy another box, please, because I can’t stop.” But they couldn’t even scold them, and they were very tense: they are in charge of the props, and some actor takes it all and eats it all. (Laughs.) Let the guys forgive me, I will buy two boxes in the new season so that no one will worry or be angry with me. I don't do this out of malice.

— Do you cook anything at home, including your favorite sweets?

“I don’t know how to make desserts, and in general I just eat in life.” Buckwheat, beans, simple salads: cucumbers and tomatoes, I don’t eat too much, and besides, such food is good for health. I can cook it myself so as not to disturb anyone, in this regard I do not bother anyone. My wife Karinka mainly cooks for the children, and if I want something special, I’ll ask her. I rarely go to restaurants. If I’m filming on expeditions, I can meet with friends. We can have dinner. In general, food for me is not a fundamental action in life. Yes, and there is no irritation: if I suddenly don’t eat on the set, I won’t throw a tantrum or yell at someone and get angry.

— It’s not for nothing that you won the reality show “Hunger”...

- Yes. (Laughs) I used to think that if you walked into a restaurant and ordered coffee, everyone was looking at you because you had no money, that you were a poor person and couldn’t order turkey with extravagant sauce. In my youth it seemed to me that this determines the human condition. And when the money appeared, I thought, why not just order coffee in a restaurant? I grew up and realized that it was some kind of stupidity about food. I began to research, analyze, experiment, try and realized that food is not some fundamental point to live.

— By the way, you say that you like sweets, but at the same time you remain slim. How does this happen?

— If I try something sweet, then I try not to eat anything during the day. If I take a chocolate bar after lunch, then dinner or snack is over for the day. That is, the body must work off the sugar it received. So if I eat something sweet, I have to fast, but it's not difficult.
