Biography
Sherstnev Yuri Borisovich - Honored Artist of the RSFSR, film and theater actor, talented performer of negative roles.
Just before the war, on April 24, 1941, a son was born into the family of Moscow military man Boris Illarionovich Sherstnev, whom it was decided to name Yuri. With the outbreak of hostilities, the family was evacuated to distant Samarkand, and the head of the family, who fought on the front line, died in the battles near Stalingrad.
Little Yuri spent the first year of his life with his mother in Samarkand, and they lived another 4 years in Udmurtia. And about a year after the victory over Nazi Germany they returned to the capital. Therefore, the future artist spent his school years in Moscow (school No. 637).

Yuri showed extraordinary acting abilities as a child, masterfully playing his own mother. Putting on old clothes and almost completely wrapped in rags, he knocked on the door of their small house and introduced himself as an orphan. With regret, the little artist told about his bitter fate, said that he was sick and asked for a small piece of bread.
This small role was played so professionally that even the mother did not immediately recognize her own son.
early years
Yuri Sherstnev was born on April 24, 1941 in the Soviet capital of Moscow. After the outbreak of war, the family was evacuated to the distant Uzbek city of Samarkand, where he lived for the first year of his life. Mom took care of the housework and raising the child. Father, Boris Illarionovich Sherstnev, was a professional military man. He fought and died in 1942 in the battles of Stalingrad.
Then mother and little Yura moved to the Udmurt village of Yukamenskoye, where they lived for another four war years. They lived hard, like the rest of the country, but they steadfastly endured all the trials that befell them. A year after the victory over Nazi Germany, they were able to return to the capital. They settled in a house located in Bolshoi Novinsky Lane (now Novy Arbat). Here he spent his childhood years, and he went to school.
Movies
We can say that Sherstnev’s career began during his student years. Having entered Monyukov’s course at the Moscow Art Theater in 1963, Yuri Borisovich actively participated in educational productions and worked part-time in theater studios. Having been noticed in small roles, he was invited to the theater. Stanislavsky.
However, the actor did not earn fame on the theater stage. He became truly popular after his appearance in the movies.

It is noteworthy that in most cases these were negative roles. The most famous photos of the artist are frames where he portrayed villains, executioners, and murderers.
Already at a young age, Yuri Borisovich brilliantly coped with the most characteristic images - this was facilitated by his appropriate appearance, expressive facial expressions, tall stature and an amazing ability to transform.

According to Yuri’s mother, his son began to show acting talent even in his youth, every now and then trying on all sorts of images. Once he was even able to play a prank on his own mother, dressing in rags and pretending to be a beggar.
Education
In 1963, the young talent was able to enter the famous Moscow Art Theater School without any problems, where he received professional acting education. At the same time, he began acting in his student years, which not every aspiring actor manages to achieve. Yuri played his first roles on the stage of the Stanislavsky Theater. This experience helped the artist gain the necessary experience for further achievements.

In recent years, Sherstnev almost did not act in films, but worked actively in the theater. He was involved in productions at the Perovskaya Theater and at the Kazantsev and Roshchin Directing Center. He devoted all his free time to an unusual hobby - repairing and restoring ancient musical instruments.

In addition, his passion for music, which arose in his youth, does not leave him: Yuri Sherstnev masterfully plays the saxophone, trumpet, trombone and six-string guitar, plays intricate rhythmic compositions on the drum and often entertains guests by playing the harmonica.
Yuri Sherstnev: the bitter fate of the kindest villain of Russian cinema
This actor has played all the villains - from the fabulous Koshchei to the ruthless bandits of the nineties. But at the same time, at heart he was a very kind and vulnerable person.
Terrible on the face, but so kind
All the actor’s friends unanimously said that his character did not fit in with his appearance. In fact, since childhood he was a gentle and kind boy. But when he turned to acting, the directors noticed one hidden talent in him.
Sherstnev could transform instantly. In an instant I turned a smile into a grin, and my soft speech into an angry growl. And since there were more than enough goodies and beautiful faces in the movies, Yuri Sherstev began to play all sorts of villains with the director’s light hand.
In his career there was an executioner from Lille in “The Three Musketeers”, and Scorched from “Wanderers’ Rest”, and a bandit from “Born of the Revolution” and a host of other sharply negative characters.
And as I remember, the whole country cried over the fate of the heroine Klara Luchko in the series about Budulai, who was almost sent to the next world by Lysy’s gang played by Sherstnev.
The Soviet Union has sunk into oblivion, but with the advent of new Russian cinema, nothing has changed for the actor. As he played bad people, he continued to play.
Bandit Broom in Antikiller, a repeat offender in Bombil, an old thief named Nadot in Bros-2 and many other works where Sherstnev only changes the nicknames of his characters.
But once upon a time, even at the dawn of his career, when fairy tales were in fashion, Sherstnev got the most negative character there - Koschey the Immortal. And, by the way, according to the artist, this negative image is his favorite of all the ones he has played.
At the same time, many critics, comparing Koshchei Georgy Millyar and Koshchei Yuri Sherstnev, could not single out the best. How can you say that one is better if both were talented?
Villains cry too
When Sherstnev was little, he loved to dress up and play pranks. Even then, acting talent was making its way. One day he found some old torn clothes in the barn, put them on himself, smeared his face with mud and knocked on his house.
When his parents opened the door, little Yura told them a plaintive story about the fact that he was an orphan, had not eaten for three days, and kind people could not help him with a piece of bread. And it was a ride. The father and mother, worried about the child's misfortune, fed the little guest, gave him something to drink, and gave him things (his own), and only after that the son opened up to his parents, having received a good scolding.
But all this means that that little improvisation in distant childhood was repeated many years later in the actor’s life, but in reality. In 2013, Sherstnev addressed the public with his misfortune. Already a real disaster, not invented.
He was diagnosed with a serious lung disease that prevented them from working at full capacity. Even just walking slowly, the artist quickly became out of breath.
A portable concentrator could have saved the situation, but it cost a lot of money, and Sherstnev didn’t have it. As the actor admitted, he lived on a tiny pension - his and his wife’s, and adult children have long lived their own lives and rarely remember the elderly.
The actor said that he would still really like to work in films, but without the necessary equipment he could not even go to the store. I was afraid of losing consciousness along the way from lack of oxygen in my body.
Then a lot of people were imbued with the misfortune of their favorite artist. It took just a few days for the amount needed to purchase the concentrator to be collected.
After that, Yuri Sherstnev lasted another four years, but the illness was aggravated by pneumonia. Lately he has not gotten out of bed, fading away literally before our eyes. There was still a glimmer of life in his eyes, but his body no longer obeyed.
The kindest movie villain in the world passed away on May 12, 2017. His movie heroes, including Koshchei the Immortal, still live today. But life is given to a person only once.
The good-natured Sherstnev had a very remarkable appearance, which is why he became “bad” in the movies. And many believed that this actor was a notorious “thug” in real life. And this means only one thing – it was played with talent.
Personal life
Almost nothing is known about the actor’s first marriage - Yuri Borisovich is reluctant to share his memories with the press. In one of his interviews, he mentioned that he has a daughter, born in 1964. But contact with her has long been lost, as well as with his first wife.

Sherstnev's second wife was actress Makeeva. Lyubov Viktorovna bore him a son, who today has his own family and lives separately from his parents.
First samples
According to his mother, Yuri Sherstnev showed his extraordinary artistic talent from childhood. Once a little boy managed to almost professionally portray a poor orphan. Putting on old clothes and almost completely hiding his face with rags, wrapping them around him, the aspiring actor knocked on the door of their small apartment. When his mother opened the door for him, he introduced himself as an unfortunate orphan. He told about his hard lot, cried about his bitter fate, said that he was seriously ill, and asked for a small piece of bread.
The small role was played so well that even the mother could not recognize her talented child for a long time. It was difficult for the mother to support her family alone, but over time, life got better and she was able to educate her son. During his school years, the boy became seriously interested in theater and began studying in the studio. Soon his artistic abilities were appreciated by his classmates, teachers and just family friends. Therefore, after graduating from school No. 637, he decided to enter the theater institute.
Disease
In October 2013, the artist turned to fans of his work with a request for help - there was a vital need for a portable concentrator. Obstructive disease of both lungs has reduced their capacity to 18%, which is not enough for full breathing.

In his address, Yuri Borisovich mentioned that his children do not help him, and two small pensions are not enough to buy an expensive device. The disease limited his ability to move and made it impossible for him to work.
In response to the famous artist's request, an account for money transfers was opened and a small information campaign was organized.
On May 12, 2020, Yuri Sherstnev died at the age of 77. The cause of Yuri Borisovich's death was a serious lung disease, which worsened after suffering from pneumonia. Yuri Sherstnev died of cardiac arrest surrounded by family and friends who supported him until his death.
“Villains” can have it bad too
Once upon a time in distant childhood, little Yura Sherstnev, who loved to transform, put on old clothes and was almost completely wrapped in rags, knocked on the door of the small house where their family lived and introduced himself as an orphan. With regret, the little artist told about his bitter fate, said that he was sick and asked for a small piece of bread. The emotional mother, who did not recognize her own son in the ragamuffin, even began to collect food for the little guest - and only after that the boy admitted to the prank.
Many years later, in October 2013, the artist turned to all fans of his work for help - this time in earnest. Obstructive disease of both lungs, which reduced their capacity to 18%, which was not enough for full breathing, made it possible to try to survive only with the presence of a portable concentrator. In his address, Yuri Borisovich mentioned that his children do not help him, and two small pensions are not enough to buy an expensive device. The disease limited his ability to move and made it impossible for him to work and, later, to walk.
Many fans of his talent responded to the call, and the concentrator was purchased a few days after Yuri Sherstnev’s televised address to the audience.
For another four years, the actor struggled with a serious illness that worsened after suffering from pneumonia. In recent years, he practically did not get out of bed, until on May 12, 2020, the heart of the kindest domestic “villain” stopped. In fairy tales, Koshchei are immortal - but people come and go. It’s just that after many who have passed away, people’s memory does not disappear. Even if on TV it’s the villain of the villains.
