Priscilla Ann Beaulieu Presley

(English: Priscilla Ann Beaulieu Presley), née
Wagner
(English: Wagner; May 24, 1945, Brooklyn, New York) is an American actress and entrepreneur, the only wife of singer Elvis Presley. As an actress, she is best known for her role as Jenna Wade in the television series Dallas, as well as for the Naked Gun film series.

Biography[ | ]

Her biological father, James Wagner, was a US Navy pilot who died in a plane crash when Priscilla was an infant. Her mother, Norwegian-American Anna Lillian Iversen, married Paul Beaulieu, a US Air Force officer, and they named her "Priscilla Ann". The Beaulieu family was in West Germany at the same time as Elvis, who served there in the US Army. Priscilla was 14 years old and Elvis 24 when they first met in Wiesbaden. And after his departure from Europe and, subsequently, gaining popularity, Elvis maintained a warm relationship with Priscilla, regularly calling her and sending her his records.

Elvis and Priscilla's wedding, 1967

In March 1963, after some hesitation, Priscilla's parents released her, and she flew to the Presley estate, Graceland. Under an agreement between her parents and Presley, 17-year-old Priscilla was allowed to remain at Graceland, with the condition that she attend a private Catholic school daily. At the same time, Presley himself spent all his time in Hollywood, acting in films and throwing parties with his so-called. "Memphis Mafia"

At the end of 1966, under pressure from his parents and his manager T. Parker, Presley was finally forced to propose. The wedding took place on May 1, 1967. At first, family life developed harmoniously, but soon after the birth (February 1, 1968) of daughter Lisa Marie, the couple began to move away from each other, and, in the end, Elvis returned to his usual way of life. Priscilla did not want to become a housewife who devoted all her time to celebrity.

In November 1970, E. Presley first mentioned to journalists about difficulties in the family, and a year later Priscilla announced that she was leaving for her karate instructor. Elvis made attempts to save the family, but the relationship went wrong. Their divorce was formalized in July 1972, and finalized in October 1973 (Lisa Marie remained with her mother, but often came to Graceland for weeks at a time).

Keeping her ex-husband’s surname, Priscilla went into the world of fashion and later became an actress (her most famous roles were in the TV series “Dallas” and the films “The Naked Gun”).

Priscilla Presley now

According to the Daily Mail, Presley has joined the ranks of celebrities who have found the strength to leave the Church of Scientologists. The publication quotes the actress as saying that Scientology “took her soul and money.” The woman joined the sect after the death of Elvis and spent almost 40 years there.

At the end of 2017, a book for children, Love Me Tender, was published, inspired by one of the most famous ballads of the King of Rock and Roll. In an interview with People dedicated to this occasion, Priscilla told how her granddaughters Finley and Harper, whom the actress took into custody after the scandal, live. As you know, Elvis's only daughter Lisa Marie divorced her husband, musician Michael Lockwood, after she discovered indecent photos of her daughters on his computer.

Priscilla Presley before and after plastic surgery

Elvis Presley remains an icon for fans of his work and simply for music lovers. In the new documentary “Elvis Presley. The Seeker,” released in April 2018 and dedicated to his beloved musician, his widow and co-producer of the film shared some details of how those around him struggled with the singer’s addiction to potent drugs.

According to Priscilla, it was useless to persuade the musician, and the one who still decided “could be thrown out like a rag.”

There was simply bomb news in the American press that Presley could become the next “Bond girl” in the legendary franchise about the adventures of an English intelligence officer.

“When we met, I was only 14 years old”

“I had the opportunity to interview other women who loved Elvis and knew him as a man. Linda Thompson, for example. And none of them complained that he was a womanizer. Everyone, justifying his behavior, cited one argument: he’s Elvis!

- This is true.

- And you think so too?

- Yes, Larry. Sometimes I think: if I were a man and I was in Presley’s place, how would I behave? After all, you just have to imagine - dozens of women threw themselves at his feet every day! Ready to do anything for one look, or maybe a kiss. This has been the case throughout his entire career. But he became famous while still very young.

- Okay, but how did you feel?

- I was very worried. It was hard for me to see all this.

- And you got divorced.

— Yes, I left Elvis when I realized that I couldn’t change anything. This is a difficult decision. I had a little daughter. And I loved my husband. But I couldn’t continue this life.

- So you weren't angry with him? Did you love?

- Loved it. You can't help but love him. He was a wonderful person.

— How did you meet him?

— We met in Germany. I was 14 years old. My father is an officer, he served there.

— Was Elvis under his command?

- No, he ended up at another military base, about 45 minutes away from the one where our family was located. Almost all soldiers and officers in their free time went to the Eagles club, restaurant and cafeteria.

— Did you go there with your parents?

— We had lunch there every day.

— Did you attend school?

- Yes, I was still studying. In ninth grade. I really missed my friends in America and wrote letters to them. One of the young officers noticed this. He felt sorry for me. One day he came up and asked if I knew who Elvis Presley was? I replied that, of course, I know. Then he offered to go on a day off to the base where Presley serves. He said that he often goes there with his wife. My parents allowed me to join this couple. That's how I saw Elvis for the first time.

- Fell in love?

— I don’t know, I was only 14.

“You still don’t know what love is?”

- Of course not. My head, understandably, was spinning. I was happy to meet Presley himself! We chatted and had a great time.

- When did you realize that something was happening between you?

— Later, when Elvis returned to America, and I remained in Germany, because my father still had to serve there.

— Did Elvis call you, write to you?

- No, I didn’t write. Sent records. Mainly with my own songs. And he called. Often. You know, back then you couldn’t just dial a number. You should have asked the telephone operator to connect you. The telephone operators were the first to sense that new notes had appeared in our conversations with Elvis. After all, he could have called when it was two or three o’clock in the morning in Germany. And we talked for a long time. And the telephone operators already knew us by our voices. “Priscilla, wake up, it’s your boyfriend again!” - they laughed. And I really started to think that Elvis was my guy.

- What did your parents think about all this?

“They couldn’t understand what they could talk about so much!” And Elvis loved to talk. He discussed his problems with me. He talked about recording records, about filming in the studio. Could talk about the film. Sang songs on the phone.

— When did you first think about marriage?

“I’ve already moved to Memphis.” The first time the question of a possible marriage with Elvis arose was in a conversation with my mother. But then this was hardly discussed. So, a few words thrown over the phone. It was only when Elvis proposed to me that I called my mother and told her everything. Only Presley asked me to keep everything secret. I understood him. We didn't want to turn our wedding into a circus! Therefore, unexpectedly for everyone, we rushed off to Las Vegas. They signed there. This has become commonplace now, but at that time getting married in Vegas was very romantic.

— The ceremony took place right at the hotel?

- Yes, in Aladdin.

Birth of a daughter and divorce

Daughter Lisa Maria was born to the couple in 1968, and after 4 years this marriage broke up.

Priscilla began a relationship with her coach. After the divorce, she took her father's surname. She admitted in an interview that it was not easy to live with Elvis Presley - he demanded too much from her. Her husband's fame did not go to her head. The young and beautiful woman turned into the shadow of her famous husband, and she wanted to build her own life.

When Presley passed away, Priscilla made a lot of efforts to ensure that his name was not forgotten. It was she who turned the estate of the musician and singer into one of the most visited museums in the United States.

Childhood and adolescence

In May 1945, a girl was born into the family of US Air Force pilot James Wagner, who was named Priscilla. When she was three years old, her father died. My mother’s second husband was Paul Beaulieu, who was also a military pilot. He gave Priscilla his last name. The family moved frequently due to Paul's work.

When the girl turned 14 years old, she and her parents ended up in Wiesbaden (Germany), where Elvis was serving in the US Army at the same time. They met at the Eagle entertainment club. Despite the fact that Presley was 10 years older than the girl, this did not bother either side. For them it was love at first sight.

When Elvis met Priscilla, he had a girlfriend whom he introduced to his acquaintances as his bride. Her name was Anita Wood. But she was not destined to become the star’s wife, since young Miss Beaulieu settled in his heart from the first meeting. It took Elvis a lot of effort to convince his chosen one’s stern stepfather of the purity and seriousness of his intentions.

Cost of wedding ring and cake

In fact, even by today's standards, paying $3,200 for an ordinary sponge cake with apricot marmalade in it is quite something. However, Elvis did not skimp and always partied in grand style.

Priscilla's ring had 20 diamonds totaling 3.5 carats, surrounded by another 20 slightly smaller diamonds. In the end, the cake and ring alone cost $22,000.

Priscilla designed her dress herself. That day she wore a beautiful chiffon dress made of snow-white silk, which was embroidered with pearls and beads. The bride's head was covered with a tulle veil, topped with an amazing crown decorated with rhinestones. Elvis was wearing a black tuxedo.

The buffet breakfast for guests cost another $10,000. After the ceremony, the newlyweds were joined by 100 of their friends. They treated them to champagne, lobster, oysters, roast pork and chicken.

Elvis didn't want to get married

According to one biography, the cook who worked at Elvis' wedding noticed the man crying hours before the ceremony. He asked him why, if everything was so tragic, he couldn't just call off the wedding. Elvis replied that he had no choice. This is explained by the fact that there were a number of rumors related to the fact that Priscilla’s father repeatedly threatened the guy. He promised that he would make sure that he would be accused of a non-existent crime or they would simply contact the police with a statement that an underage girl lived with an adult guy in his house. Of course, this threatened a huge prison term. Therefore, according to rumors, Elvis had to agree to the wedding.
