Childhood
Eddie Murphy was born in Brooklyn into an ordinary family. His father worked as a transport police officer, and in his free time he starred in low-budget films and tried himself as a comedian. My mother worked all her life as an ordinary telephone operator with a low salary and an overly overloaded schedule. As the actor himself admits, as a child he hardly saw his parents. In order to babysit two children (besides Eddie, there was an older brother in the family), numerous grandmothers, grandfathers and aunts were invited. But parents spoiled their children with their attention only on weekends.
“Those rare moments when our family was completely gathered in the house are priceless to me. These were those rare minutes and hours when you could listen to your father’s stories about cinema, hug your mother and just enjoy being around them.”
However, the fragile idyll that reigned in the family is destroyed a couple of years after the birth of Eddie Murphy. His father dies as a result of a road accident, and his mother, unable to bear the hardships of a lonely life, becomes seriously ill and becomes unable to raise her children on her own. The decision to send them to an orphanage is the most difficult for her, however, she makes the decision, fearing that if they remain at home, they will completely lose faith in life and a happy childhood.
Charlie and Eddie move to Roosevelt, to the family of an ice cream factory worker. Not immediately, but their new family also acquires value for them and wins love, but the guys do not forget about their sick mother and try to visit her as much as possible. Here, in Roosevelt, they are sent to a good school, where their new life begins.
From elementary school, Eddie began to become interested in acting, imitating Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby. At first, the talented boy takes part in school plays, then even tries to create his own. His older brother supports him in everything and also tries to gain popularity, despite the fact that it is difficult for him.
Paternity scandal
After his divorce, the actor did not remain single for long. Soon he began an affair with one of the former members of the Spice Girls. It was no surprise to anyone that soon after the start of the relationship the girl became pregnant. True, this news did not push Murphy towards marriage, but, on the contrary, scared her. It turned out that Eddie had no intention of having children together with Melanie Brown, but was hoping for a short romance.
As a result, the actor tried to disown little Angel, who was born on his 46th birthday. Eddie stated that he doubts his paternity. A couple of months later, Melanie publicly announced the results of the examination. They confirmed the actor's paternity. Despite this, Murphy refused to acknowledge or communicate with the child. This situation in the relationship between the actor and singer continues to this day.
Stand-up career
At the age of 20, Eddie Murphy was finally invited to the first stand-up club in his life, the Bay Area Comedy Club, where such celebrities as Whoopi Goldberg and Robert Williams once worked. This inspires the young guy so much that he immediately begins to realize his dream of a big stage.
“At that time, being invited to stand-up was tantamount to the main role in a blockbuster. So you can imagine how proud I was of myself at that age!”
However, Eddie Murphy's first performances as a stand-up comedian were often offensive. His humor was full of jokes about nationalities, religions, and human origins. And at one of the speeches, the guy did not even ignore the problem of HIV and homosexuality in the world, which earned him general disapproval. Yesterday's idol Richard Pryor even noted in his autobiography “Pryor's Convictions” that Eddie's humor was not only unfunny, but extremely unpleasant, caustic and harsh. Later, realizing that he said too much, Eddie Murphy publicly apologizes.
Funny audience reaction
American talk show host Ellen DeGeneres asked Murphy what he thought about the large number of children in the family. “Don't you think that's a lot? – Ellen asked a question. “Or is everything all right?” Eddie liked the question and said, “No, it's okay.”
However, the famous actor admitted that the audience reacts funny to this fact. “It’s a funny reaction from people,” he said. He then gave examples of how people react.
“Men often look at me as if they’re thinking, ‘He’s crazy! How much did it cost?" Murphy said. As for women, Eddie stated that they are all very different. He joked: “And women kind of think there’s something sexy about it. That is, Eddie Murphy is doing his job.”

Acting career
In order to be recognized in the film industry, the aspiring actor goes to the television program “Saturday Night Live”, where he plays several interesting and memorable roles. One of them even has the catchy phrase “I’m Gumby, damn it!”, for which the actor was recognized and loved by the public.
In 1982, he first appeared on screen in the film 48 Hours, where he played alongside Nick Nolte. The police action comedy turns out to be so good that it is almost immediately recognized as the best film of the year, and Eddie Murphy is nominated for a Golden Globe as an excellent debut in the film industry. And here it is, it would seem, fame - one film and already such a stir! But Ben Kingsley receives the statuette, which cannot but upset the actor.
“I can't tell you how much I wanted this award. This would mean that I am truly talented in cinema, that I am truly worthy of continuing. But, alas..."
The following year, Eddie Murphy was invited to star in the film Trading Places, where actor Dan Ackroyd became his colleague. History repeats itself entirely - the comedy turns out to be exceptionally good, the public and critics are delighted, this is followed by a new nomination for the Golden Globe, but... again it misses. The honor goes to Michael Caine.
1984 – the famous and beloved by millions “Beverly Hills Cop” is released, where Eddie Murphy plays his first leading role. Everything would be fine, but for the third time he is deprived of the statuette, which upsets the actor even more. However, he is not discouraged, because his hero gets 78th place in the list of “the hundred greatest characters of all time.”

Director's career
When Eddie Murphy temporarily stopped receiving filming invitations in the late 80s, he decided to start creating his own films. His first debut film as a director was the crime-comedy Harlem Nights. Despite quite good ratings and box office receipts, the public reluctantly accepted Murphy’s directorial brainchild, and soon the situation worsened so much that he was nominated in two Golden Raspberry categories (Worst and failed films), one of which he still received .
After that, Eddie Murphy made several more films (“Boomerang”, “Vampire in Brooklyn”, etc.), but all of them received only negative reviews, which could not but upset the aspiring director.
“I was very upset that the public did not perceive me at all as a serious director. I wanted to create cool pictures, to please the public... But it turned out somehow rather poorly, apparently...”
Personal life of Eddie Murphy
Father of many children
He succeeded not only in the film field: Murphy is also a father of many children. His only official wife was Nicole Mitchell, with whom he lived from 1988 to 2005. In 1989, the couple’s first child, daughter Bria, was born, and in 1993, the comedian and his chosen one got married.
In total, five children were born in this marriage (four of them were girls). But not everything was smooth in this union - Eddie was not distinguished by loyalty and exemplary behavior. Nicole got tired of it, and one day she left. The divorce was finalized in 2006.
The actor has three illegitimate children (two sons and a daughter) - the consequences of affairs with three different women. The youngest, Angel Iris, born singer Melanie Brown, was not immediately recognized by Murphy.
Is a replenishment coming?
Eddie Murphy's personal life continues to be quite turbulent. For some time, his common-law wife was Tracy Edmond, whom the comedian stole from musician Kenneth Edmonds. And now Murphy is again... preparing to become a father: his four-year romance with Australian Paige Butcher will soon bear fruit! The ex-model is 18 years younger than her boyfriend, and, according to Murphy’s agents, she will give birth by the beginning of summer 2016.
Personal life
Eddie Murphy has always been considered a womanizer, knowing millions of girls who were credited with having stormy romances with the actor. He met them on the set, on business trips, on the Internet and even at film awards. He met his first wife at the Image Award ceremony, which took place in 1988. After 3 years, the couple decided to legalize the relationship, and two years later, the wife gave Murphy their first child. Then Eddie, with an interval of several years, again becomes a happy father (in total, the couple had 5 children). But, unfortunately, by 2006, Nicole Mitchell's wife filed for divorce, indicating that she and her husband could no longer find a common language.
As soon as the divorce commotion died down, Eddie Murphy began dating former Spice Girls singer Melanie Brown. After a short romance, the singer announced that she was pregnant from Murphy, to which he responded with an almost categorical refusal. In an interview with a Danish magazine, Eddie even insisted that the conversation about his “alleged paternity” should not be officially started until DNA research was carried out. However, on April 3, 2007, Brown openly stated in the press that the father of her unborn child is indeed Eddie Murphy and that, to her great regret, he does not at all seek to help either her or, especially, the child.
On January 1, 2008, the press learned that Eddie married film producer Tracy Edmonds, and the wedding ceremony was scheduled for Bora Bora so that fewer people would know about their relationship. As the actor himself later stated, they just wanted a cozy and quiet ceremony, without reporters and a bunch of guests who would remember their past and “wash their bones” behind their backs.
Eddie Murphy. Curriculum Vitae
Like many other stars of this show (John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase), Eddie Murphy soon received an offer to star in a big movie. His film debut was the action film “48 Hours” (1982), directed by Walter Hill, where Murphy played the role of the clever rogue Reggie Hammond, released from prison for 48 hours in order to unravel the murder of two police officers.
The debut was successful, and soon the comedy Trading Places (1983) was released, where Dan Aykroyd became Murphy's partner. The film was equally enthusiastically received by the public and critics. The role of a charming swindler who does not lose his sense of humor in any situation and at the same time, endowed with a sense of self-esteem, who changes internally after becoming a rich man is one of Murphy’s best roles. In 1984, the film “Beverly Hills Cop” was released on cinema screens. The film brought Eddie Murphy huge success. The actor managed to create an image of a peace officer that is completely different from the usual movie image, which, despite all the eccentricity of the performance, seems absolutely real, as if taken from life. The film "Beverly Hills Cop" became the leader of the year's box office in the USA and Canada, and Eddie Murphy received the "Peoples Choice" award as America's favorite actor.
The success of the film led to its sequel entitled Beverly Hills Cop II (1987). Thanks to Murphy's popularity, the film, despite the defeat of critics, grossed $153 million and became the highest-grossing film of 1987.
In 1988, John Landis' film Coming to America (1988) was released, where Eddie Murphy played not only the African prince Akeem, who came to New York, but also, thanks to his unique makeup, several minor characters.
In subsequent years, the actor's career began to decline. An attempt to try himself as a director with the film Harlem Nights (1989) was not very successful, and films such as Boomerang (1992), Vampire in Brooklyn (1995) and Beverly Hills Cop III (1994) did not lived up to the hopes of their creators and received rather weak reviews from critics. In June 1996, The Nutty Professor, a remake of the 1961 hit starring Jerry Lewis, premiered in the United States and Canada. Eddie Murphy played the scientist Klump, who creates an elixir that turns him into a slender, handsome man. In this role, the comedian created the images of both a charming and touching professor and a funny egoist, cynic and scoundrel, into whom Klump turns after taking the elixir. Thanks to makeup and special effects, Murphy played several other members of the professor's family in this film.
The acting triumph brought Murphy a prize from the US National Society of Film Critics for best role of the year and a nomination for the Golden Globe Award.
However, Eddie's subsequent films were not all so successful. "Doctor Dolittle" (1998) and "Cool Guy" (1999) were successful among audiences, and were also highly praised by critics. The films “Saint” (1998) and “For Life” (1999) did not receive good responses.
In the early 2000s, such films with Eddie Murphy were released as “Nutty Professor II: The Klump Family” (2000), “Doctor Dolittle II” (2001), “Dad on Duty” (2003), “The Adventures of Pluto Nash” ( 2002) and "Fool Everyone" (2002).
The role in Bill Condon's musical film Dreamgirls (2006) brought Murphy his first career nomination for an Oscar and a Golden Globe (2007) in the Best Supporting Actor category.
In the comedy “The Tricks of Norbit” (2007), Eddie Murphy tried to repeat the success of “The Nutty Professor” due to complex makeup and playing several roles at once.
Among the actor’s latest film works are the films “Meet Dave” (2008), “Imagine” (2009), “A Thousand Words” (2011). In total, his filmography includes more than 40 films.
Eddie Murphy's comedic talent also manifested itself in scoring animated films. His credits include Mushu the Dragon from the Disney animated film Mulan (1998) and Donkey in the animated film Shrek (2001) and its sequels. Eddie Murphy was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Supporting Actor for his voice work in Shrek. Eddie Murphy is known not only as an actor, but also as a producer; the famous comedian has produced more than a dozen films. In addition, throughout his artistic career, Murphy has been actively working as a screenwriter in film and television.
From his first marriage to model Nicole Mitchell, Eddie Murphy has four daughters: Bria (b. 1989), Shane Audra (b. 1994), Zola Ivy (b. 1999), Bella Zahra (b. 2002). ) and son Miles Mitchell (born 1992).
Eddie and Nicole married in 1993, and Mitchell filed for divorce in 2005, which was finalized in 2006.
After the divorce, Murphy had a short affair with Spice Girls lead singer Melanie Brown. In April 2007, the singer gave birth to his daughter Angel Iris Murphy. The actor refused the child for a long time, but after a DNA test confirmed his paternity, he agreed to recognize his daughter.
Murphy has two more children from two other women with whom the actor had affairs. Son Eric, Eddie's first child, was born in July 1989. Almost nothing is known about his mother. His second son Christian was born in November 1990. His mother is actress Tamara Moore. In 2008, Murphy married film producer Tracey Edmonds. The marriage broke up two weeks later.
