Perhaps the reason for the separation was a new hobby for Karen Gillan, who was seen in the company of the English actor Andrew Brooke, but the actress herself said that they were only partners on the set.

Another affair in which Gillan was suspected happened to her with the central role in the series Doctor Who, where she played Amy Pond, one of the protagonist’s companions.

Karen Gillan and Matt Smith

In 2009, the actress was cast in the role of Amy Pond in the TV series Doctor Who - on the set of this project she met Matt Smith, who, according to many, has recently become part of Karen Gillan's personal life, although the actress herself categorically denies this , claiming that she and Matt are only colleagues.

Karen Gillan and Matt Smith spent a lot of time working on the series, and this, according to the actress, brought them very close. She does not hide the fact that there has always been great sympathy between them.

Smith speaks very warmly of his co-star and says that he really liked Karen from the very beginning, so there was a huge bond between them during filming.

Despite the relentless attention of journalists, the actors in interviews try by any means to shift the topic from their personal lives to the plot of the film, and fans can only guess what is really going on between Karen and Matt.

Brief biography of Karen Gillan

The Scottish actress was born in 1987 and has been demonstrating her acting skills since childhood. The father, singer and musician Raymond Gillan, hoped that his daughter would follow in his footsteps, because Karen already played the piano well at the age of seven, but the girl’s love for the stage was stronger.

She studied at Charleston Academy, after which she entered Edinburgh College and throughout her time was active in all school theater productions and events.

Two years later, Karen Gillan left Edinburgh and moved to London to continue her studies at Italia Conti, one of the most prestigious theater universities.

In order not to sit on her parents' neck, Karen worked part-time in a pub, and then got into Kevin Bishop's show. When representatives of one of the modeling agencies noticed her, Gillan began to appear on the catwalk - she took part in London Fashion Week, and also participated as a model in the show “Exquisite Dolls of Nicola Roberts.”

The modeling business brought Karen good income, which she, without hesitation, refused when the opportunity arose to star in a prominent role in a movie.

She always strived for this, and already had experience working on a film set - during her student years, Karen starred in a tiny role in the TV series “Rebus: The Hanging One.”

Then there were several more unnoticeable roles, and the next project was Doctor Who, which brought the actress widespread popularity and four awards for her role as Amy Pond.

At the same time, she voiced Amy in computer games based on the plot of the film about Doctor Who.

After participating in this series, many directors and producers drew attention to Karen Gillan, and she began to regularly receive invitations to various projects.

As Nebula

As Nebula

One of the most striking works of the actress was the role of Nebula in the film based on the Guardians of the Galaxy comics, and for the sake of this role Gillan even decided to part with her hair, appearing completely bald on screen.

In 2020, the sequel to "Guardians" will be released - the film "Avengers: Infinity War", in which the actress will appear in the same role.

The jungle is calling. Jack Black and Curren Gillan about the film "Jumanji: The Next Level"

The original Jumanji film starring Robin Williams turned out to be extremely successful commercially - with a budget of $65 million, it managed to gross almost $262 million. In creating the reboot, the bet was placed on the success of the title, which had already become a brand, and the comedic potential of director Kasdan. His previous (criticized) “Home Video” felt quite confident among the audience: the film’s box office exceeded its budget three times. “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle” was also able to truly surprise. On the one hand, the film captivated us with its good humor and talk about the value of friendship and self-acceptance. On the other hand, largely thanks to the powerful cast, and also targeting a young audience and their love for video games, it turned out to be a real goldmine for Sony Pictures. The success of the new Jumanji could be compared to the breakthrough of Todd Phillips's The Hangover. Both films earned 10 times their own budgets.

We decided to discuss the film with actors Jack Black and Karen Gillan. The latter, by the way, became truly recognizable after her role as the companion of a space and time traveler in the British TV series Doctor Who. Karen Gillan is one of the most sought-after Hollywood actresses today. The main character of Mike Flanagan's horror about family trauma "Oculus", the villain Nebula in the Marvel universe and Amy from Adam McKay's "The Big Short". Two years ago, she, along with veteran comedians Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black, agreed to the Sony Pictures adventure. The actress, both on screen and in life, always seems too cheerful. She came to an interview with Forbes Life in a pink airy dress, screamed a lot, laughed and was surprised. That’s why it’s more interesting that her partner in the conversation was the eternal funny man and two-time Golden Globe nominee Jack Black. His avatar in the game “Jumanji” Shelley Oberon does not have any physical superpowers (the hero can’t even do push-ups), but both an Instagrammer and a dark-skinned “jock” managed to visit his body. And the actor had the opportunity to once again confirm his title of “comedian - youth idol,” which he received back in 2003 after the film “School of Rock.”

As expected, a serious conversation with the two comedians did not work out.

Jack, in your filmography there are countless films for children and teenagers: “Gulliver’s Travels”, “Horror Movies”, “Kung Fu Panda”... Even one of your most striking projects of the 2000s - “School of Rock” - was about schoolchildren. Is this a trend or a coincidence?

Black: Yes, indeed. Somehow I didn’t think about it. But this is really a trend, since it happens again and again. I think children are my main audience. They respond very well to me and my image. So tell me, am I a real clown?

Do you like to appear again and again in this role?

Black: I absolutely love this image and my work. It's such a blessing that children exist at all! Well, they pay for my films.

Karen, your work is also often aimed at a younger audience. Doctor Who, where you brilliantly played for more than two seasons, is a teenage series. I’m not talking about “The Avengers” and “Jumanji” at all.

Gillan: Actually, Doctor Who is probably the number one family TV show for the British. It unites not so much a children's audience as viewers of all generations and all ages in general. Many families bond while sitting in front of the TV screen. I think Jumanji is about the same thing. And I really like to participate in such a family association. Today, movies often talk about rivalry between loved ones, but “Jumanji,” on the contrary, reminds us how cool it is to just have a good time together.

There are many hilarious episodes in Jumanji. Just look at the chemistry that arises between your characters. How many times did you laugh during filming?

Gillan: One hundred and seventy-nine times. I seriously thought so. And all because these guys (points to Black) are amazingly funny! And they play characters that don’t match their bodies so well. Just look at Jack and his performance as a teenage girl!

Tell me, if you were in Jumanji without the special abilities of your avatars - Jack, I'm sorry, you don't have many of them in the film anyway - would you be able to survive?

Gillan: No. I definitely couldn’t - I would have died so quickly. Although, wait, no, I wouldn’t die! I have a remarkable ability to adapt. Just like Tom Hanks in Cast Away. So if I was sent to Jumanji for the rest of my life, I would get over it.

Black: Actually, everyone has abilities, even if they don’t have the prefix “super.” We can all walk, talk, think... If you live, you are definitely capable of something. For example, I can breathe, think, smell. The main thing is to do everything correctly and on time!

Sorry, but since it's already on the subject. And what do you smell like?

Black: Usually fantastic - I smell like a gentleman, like a real gentleman.
