Patrick Gaylen Dempsey
(eng.
Patrick Galen Dempsey
; born January 13, 1966 (19660113), Lewiston, Maine, USA) is an American actor and race car driver, best known for his role as Dr. Derek Shepard in the long-running ABC series Grey's Anatomy, race silver medalist “24 Hours of Le Mans” in the LMGTE Am class (2015).
Career
In 1985, Dempsey made his screen debut, and 2 years later he starred with Beverly D'Angelo in the film In the Mood, where he played the role of her young boyfriend. After that, he played leading roles in the teen comedies Can't Buy You Love, Some Girls, Hero Lover and Happy Together[1].
In the early 1990s, Dempsey tried to move away from teen roles by starring in dramas, although he was not able to achieve much success, in particular by playing in the critically panned film Gangsters. As a result, for the rest of the decade he mainly starred in low-grade films, and also played supporting roles in films such as Outbreak.[1] In the early 2000s, Dempsey's career took off, especially after being nominated for an Emmy Award for his supporting role as the schizophrenic brother of Sela Ward's character in the series Time and Again.[1] On the big screen, he starred in major films like Scream 3 and Stylish Thing, and on television he was prominent in the series Will & Grace and The Practice.
The greatest success of Dempsey's career was the role of Dr. Derek Shepard in Shonda Rhimes' series Grey's Anatomy. This role earned him a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Drama Series, as well as two Golden Globe nominations for Best Actor in a Television Series - Drama.[2] He also appeared in its spin-off series, Private Practice. Thanks to his role in the series, Dempsey was able to return to the big screen[1] with roles in the commercially successful films 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Freedom Writers, Enchanted, The Bridesmaid, Valentine's Day and Transformers 3: The Dark Side of the Moon."
Personal life of Patrick Dempsey
When your wife's son is your best friend
Dempsey married twice. In 1987, he became the husband of his manager Rochelle "Rocky" Parker: he was 21 years old, she was 48.
It is often mistakenly written that the actor married his friend’s mother, but this is not so: Dempsey admitted that he became Corey’s best friend, having met him during his affair with Rocky. Patrick Dempsey divorced his wife in 1987. Parker died in 2014.
Patrick Dempsey and his second wife: divorced and... reconciled
On July 31, 1999, Dempsey walked hairstylist and makeup artist Jillian Fink down the aisle.
The couple had three children: daughter Talulah in 2002, and twins Darby Gaylen and Sullivan Parker in 2007.
In January 2015, Fink filed for divorce. But later Patrick Dempsey and his wife made peace. On November 12, 2016, they began to live together again - in a new expensive mansion in Malibu, which the actor bought.

The beginning of an acting career
Patrick decided to go to New York to take part in several competitions organized for gifted youth. Here Dempsey even got his own agent. Things were going pretty well. But one day Patrick decided to quit everything and start a career as an actor. Thanks to the efforts of his agent, he was able to get a role in one of the youth theater productions, and, to everyone’s amazement, he turned out to be very talented in a completely new profession for himself. Subsequently, Dempsey toured extensively throughout the country. This was the beginning of the actor’s rather long journey to the top of Hollywood.

Stars from A to Z
Surely every woman who watched at least one episode of the popular series “Grey's Anatomy” secretly dreamed of being in the place of lucky Meredith, because Patrick Dempsey became her partner. The personal life of this actor has always been kept under seven locks.
Patrick Galen Dempsey was born into a large family of William and Amanda Dempsey on the slopes of strong-willed Ireland. He was the youngest among the children. Today it is known that little Patrick, as a child, was unusually fond of the circus, and it must be said that in his adult life he even planned to become one of the members of a traveling circus. He spent quite a lot of time studying magic tricks and practicing juggling. As a result, at the beginning of 1981, Patrick Dempsey received third prize at a jugglers competition.
Today it is difficult to see in an unusually handsome and successful man a boy who suffered from dyslexia as a child. Partly because of this, he had to quit his studies. However, at one time he overcame this psychological disorder on his own. It was at this time that the young actor had the opportunity to see New England, and without hesitation he went on a tour to this unknown country.
Apparently these were the machinations of fate, because it was in England that Patrick was noticed by an agent who invited him to try out for a role in the play “Torch Song Trilogy”. Dempsey agrees and manages to get the role. Patrick Dempsey, whose biography interests many today, around the same time started a family with Rocky Parker, who is much older than the actor himself. An interesting fact is that Rocky, in addition to being Patrick's wife, is also the mother of Dempsey's best friend.
In his first marriage, Patrick Dempsey and his wife did not have children, and their marriage soon broke up. Many people around Patrick Dempsey at that time considered this union to be obviously unnatural, and there is something to think about: Patrick is 21, Rocky is 48. Apparently there was a conflict of ages.
Even before his marriage to Rocky, Patrick Dempsey starred in several films where he played teenagers. At that time he was 19 years old, and his build and appearance made it possible to slightly deceive the viewer about the actor’s age.
The film in which Dempsey made his debut was the film “Heaven Help Us!” " There he played Corbin, one of the students at a school in which chaos reigns, and the youth are left to their own devices. As for the main role of “Handsome Man,” such a film was the film “Can’t Buy Love,” where he, in principle, continues to play schoolchildren from the golden youth. At the same time, he plays in the film “Mood,” which is insignificant for him. By the way, Patrick Dempsey and Rocky Parker got to know each other better on the set of this film.
In addition to his film career, Patrick Dempsey continued to develop and starred in several television shows. As part of one of them, he had the opportunity to play President Kennedy himself. The success of a versatile actor came to Patrick along with the filming of the series “Together Again.” Patrick Dempsey won an Emmy for his role as Aaron Brooks. After this series, a series of films followed: some of them were successful, others not so much.
The 2002 film “Stylish Thing” was successful for “Handsome.” Here, together with his equally pretty and charming colleague, actress Reese Witherspoon, the actor told the story of the notorious love triangle. The film is filled with a bunch of comical situations that give way to light and heartfelt moments.
Between roles and busy work days, Patrick Dempsey manages to meet a charming blonde, a stylist by profession, named Jill Fink. In 1999, the couple legalized their relationship. And this marriage was truly made in heaven, because it continues to this day. In addition, over the years they lived together, Patrick Dempsey and Jill Fink gave birth to three children: the eldest daughter Talulah and two younger twin boys - Sullivan and Darby.
Even if someone hadn’t heard the name Patrick Dempsey before, the appearance on the screens of the series “Grey’s Anatomy” simply blew up the idea of women all over the world about what an ideal man should look like. It was his careless hairstyle, slight unshavenness and this childishly naive and kind look that forced all the women of the civilized world to sit down in front of the screen at a certain time. And no matter what Dr. Shepard does, everything is forgiven. By the way, it was on the set of this series that the screen nickname “Handsome” simply stuck to Patrick Dempsey.
The film “Freedom Writers” left its mark on Patrick’s career in the world of cinema, where Patrick, along with Hilary Swank, as school teachers, fought with difficult youth. The audience was amused by the comedy “Happy Together,” where he plays Chris Wooden, who, ironically, has to share a dorm room with a recognized college beauty.
All the women of the world cried a little while watching the film with Dempsey's participation called "Friend of the Bride." The plot is quite hackneyed, but it was “Handsome Man” that brought its own romanticism and attractiveness to it. Dempsey plays Tom, who has long loved his girlfriend, but dares to admit it to her only when she has a rich fiancé.
The film “Enchanted” became one of the actor’s last, as always successful, works. This is a kind of fairy tale film. Patrick Dempsey's partner was the young actress Amy Adams, who, by the will of her evil stepmother, found herself from a fairy tale into the modern world of taxis, hamburgers and eternal rush. Fate takes her to Manhattan, where she finally finds love. There is no need to guess for long here, because who else but Patrick Dempsey is suitable for the role of the prince?
In his personal life, Patrick Dempsey is somewhat different from all his on-screen images. He is an exemplary family man who has loved the same woman for many years, and every day, in her words, “makes her happy.” When he has free time, he enjoys spending time with his family. Friends of the Dempsey family say that Patrick Dempsey and his children are truly an idyllic sight.

Excerpt characterizing Dempsey, Patrick
– It’s them... You wanted to see them, didn’t you? – I nodded dumbfoundedly. – Just don’t say that I showed you, let them do it themselves. “Well, now I have to go...” the little girl whispered sadly. - I can’t go with you... I can’t go there anymore... - I’ll definitely come to you! Many, many more times! – I promised with all my heart. And the little girl looked after me with her warm, sad eyes, and seemed to understand everything... Everything that I was unable to tell her in our simple words. All the way home from the cemetery, I sulked at my grandmother for no reason, and was angry with myself for it... I looked a lot like a ruffled sparrow, and my grandmother saw it perfectly, which, naturally, irritated me even more and forced me to crawl deeper into my " safe shell”…. Most likely, it was just my childhood resentment raging for the fact that she, as it turned out, hid a lot from me and did not teach me anything yet, apparently considering me unworthy or incapable of more. And although my inner voice told me that I was completely wrong here, I couldn’t calm down and look at everything from the outside, as I did before when I thought I might be wrong... Finally, my impatient soul could withstand the silence longer was unable to... - Well, what did you talk about for so long? If, of course, I can know this...” I muttered offendedly. “We didn’t talk, we thought,” the grandmother answered calmly, smiling. It seemed like she was just teasing me in order to provoke me into some actions that she alone understood... - Well, then, what were you “thinking” about together? - and then, unable to bear it, she blurted out: - Why does Grandma teach Stella, but you don’t teach me?!.. Or do you think that I’m not capable of anything else? “Well, first of all, stop boiling, otherwise steam will start coming out soon...” the grandmother said calmly again. - And, secondly, - Stella still has a long way to go to reach you. And what do you want me to teach you, if even what you have, you haven’t quite figured it out yet?.. Figure it out - then we’ll talk. I stared at my grandmother in a daze, as if I was seeing her for the first time... How is it that Stella is so far from me?! She does this!.. She knows so much!.. And what about me? If she did anything, she just helped someone. And I don’t know anything else. My grandmother saw my complete confusion, but didn’t help at all, apparently believing that I had to go through this myself, and from the unexpected “positive” shock, all my thoughts went tumbling awry, and, unable to think soberly, I just I looked at her with big eyes and could not recover from the “killer” news that had fallen on me... - But what about the “floors”?.. I couldn’t get there myself?.. It was Stella’s grandmother who showed them to me! – I still stubbornly did not give up. “Well, that’s why I showed it so that I could try it myself,” the grandmother stated an “indisputable” fact. “Can I go there myself?!..” I asked dumbfounded. - Surely! This is the simplest thing you can do. You just don’t believe in yourself, that’s why you don’t try... - Am I not trying?!.. - I was already choked by such terrible injustice... - All I do is try! But maybe not that... Suddenly I remembered how Stella repeated many, many times that I could do much more... But I can - what?!.. I had no idea what they were all talking about, but now I already felt that I was starting a little calm down and think, which has always helped me in any difficult circumstances. Life suddenly seemed not so unfair at all, and I gradually began to come to life... Inspired by the positive news, all the following days I, of course, “tried”... Not sparing myself at all, and torturing my already exhausted physical body to pieces, I She went to the “floors” dozens of times, without yet showing herself to Stella, because she wanted to give her a pleasant surprise, but at the same time not lose face by making some stupid mistake. But finally, I decided to stop hiding and decided to visit my little friend. “Oh, is it you?!..” a familiar voice immediately began to sound like happy bells. – Is it really you?! How did you come here?.. Did you come on your own? Questions, as always, poured out of her like a hail, her cheerful face was shining, and it was a sincere pleasure for me to see this bright, fountain-like joy of hers. - Well, shall we go for a walk? – I asked, smiling. And Stella still couldn’t calm down from happiness that I managed to come on my own, and that now we can meet whenever we want and even without outside help! “You see, I told you that you can do more!..” the little girl chirped happily. - Well, now everything is fine, now we don’t need anyone! Oh, it’s really good that you came, I wanted to show you something and was really looking forward to seeing you. But for this we will have to walk to where it is not very pleasant... - Do you mean the “lower floor”? – Having understood what she was talking about, I immediately asked. Stella nodded. – What did you lose there? “Oh, I didn’t lose it, I found it!” the little girl exclaimed victoriously. – Do you remember how I told you that there were good beings there, but you didn’t believe me then? Frankly speaking, I didn’t really believe it even now, but, not wanting to offend my happy friend, I nodded in agreement. “Well, now you’ll believe it!” Stella said contentedly. - Went? This time, apparently having already gained some experience, we easily “slipped” down the “floors”, and I again saw a depressing picture, very similar to those seen before... Some kind of black, stinking slurry was chomping under our feet, and from streams of muddy, reddish water flowed from it... The scarlet sky darkened, blazing with bloody reflections of the glow, and, still hanging very low, drove somewhere a crimson mass of heavy clouds... And those, not giving in, hung heavy, swollen, pregnant, threatening to give birth an eerie, sweeping waterfall... From time to time, a wall of brown-red, opaque water burst through them with a resounding roar, hitting the ground so hard that it seemed like the sky was collapsing... The trees stood bare and faceless, lazily moving their drooping, thorny branches. Further behind them stretched the joyless, burnt-out steppe, getting lost in the distance behind a wall of dirty, gray fog... Many gloomy, drooping human beings restlessly wandered back and forth, senselessly looking for something, not paying any attention to the world around them, which, indeed, did not evoke the slightest pleasure so that one would want to look at it... The whole landscape evoked horror and melancholy, seasoned with hopelessness... - Oh, how scary it is here... - Stella whispered, shuddering. – No matter how many times I come here, I just can’t get used to it... How do these poor things live here?! – Well, probably these “poor things” were too guilty once if they ended up here. No one sent them here - they just got what they deserved, right? – still not giving up, I said. “But now you’ll look…” Stella whispered mysteriously. A cave overgrown with grayish greenery suddenly appeared in front of us. And out of it, squinting, came a tall, stately man who in no way fit into this wretched, soul-chilling landscape... - Hello, Sad! – Stella greeted the stranger affectionately. - So I brought my friend! She doesn't believe that good people can be found here. And I wanted to show you to her... You don’t mind, do you? “Hello, dear...” the man answered sadly, “But I’m not that good to show off to anyone.” You are in vain... Oddly enough, I actually liked this sad man for some reason right away. He exuded strength and warmth, and it was very pleasant to be around him. In any case, he was in no way like those weak-willed, grief-stricken people who surrendered to the mercy of fate, with whom this “floor” was chock-full. “Tell us your story, sad man...” Stella asked with a bright smile. “There’s nothing to tell, and there’s nothing particularly to be proud of...” the stranger shook his head. - And what do you need this for? For some reason, I felt very sorry for him... Without knowing anything about him, I was already almost sure that this man could not have done anything truly bad. Well, I just couldn’t!.. Stela, smiling, followed my thoughts, which she apparently really liked... - Well, okay, I agree - you’re right!.. - seeing her happy face, I finally honestly admitted. “But you don’t know anything about him yet, but with him everything is not so simple,” Stella said, smiling slyly and contentedly. - Well, please tell her, Sad... The man smiled at us sadly and said quietly: - I’m here because I killed... I killed many. But it was not out of desire, but out of need... I was immediately terribly upset - I killed!.. And I, stupid, believed it!.. But for some reason I stubbornly did not have the slightest feeling of rejection or hostility. I obviously liked the person, and no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t do anything about it... - Is it the same guilt - to kill at will or out of necessity? – I asked. – Sometimes people have no choice, do they? For example: when they have to defend themselves or protect others. I have always admired heroes - warriors, knights. I have always adored the latter... Is it possible to compare simple murderers with them? He looked at me for a long time and sadly, and then also quietly answered: “I don’t know, dear... The fact that I am here says that the guilt is the same... But by the way I feel this guilt in my heart, it’s not... I never wanted to kill, I just defended my land, I was a hero there... But here it turned out that I was just killing... Is this right? I think no... - So you were a warrior? – I asked hopefully. - But then, this is a big difference - you defended your home, your family, your children! And you don’t look like a murderer!.. - Well, we are all not like how others see us... Because they see only what they want to see... or only what we want to show them... And about the war “At first I, too, was just as proud as you thought... But here it turned out that there was nothing to be proud of.” Murder is murder, and it doesn’t matter how it was committed. “But this is not right!..” I was indignant. - What happens then - a maniac-killer turns out to be the same as a hero?!.. This simply cannot be, this should not happen! Everything inside me was raging with indignation! And the man sadly looked at me with his sad, gray eyes, in which understanding was read... - A hero and a murderer take life in the same way. Only, probably, there are “extenuating circumstances,” since a person protecting someone, even if he takes a life, does so for a bright and righteous reason. But, one way or another, they both have to pay for it... And it’s very bitter to pay, believe me... - Can I ask you how long ago you lived? – I asked, a little embarrassed. “Oh, quite a long time ago... This is the second time I’m here... For some reason, my two lives were similar - in both of them I fought for someone... Well, and then I paid... And it’s always just as bitter...” the stranger fell silent for a long time, as if not wanting to talk about it anymore, but then he quietly continued. – There are people who love to fight. I always hated it. But for some reason, life is returning me to the same circle for the second time, as if I was locked in this, not allowing me to free myself... When I lived, all our peoples fought among themselves... Some seized other people's lands - others defended the same lands. Sons overthrew fathers, brothers killed brothers... Anything happened. Someone accomplished unimaginable feats, someone betrayed someone, and someone turned out to be simply a coward. But none of them even suspected how bitter the payment would be for everything they had done in that life... - Did you have a family there? – to change the subject, I asked. - Were there children? - Certainly! But that was already so long ago!.. They once became great-grandfathers, then they died... And some are already living again. It was a long time ago... - And you’re still here?!.. – I whispered, looking around in horror. I couldn’t even imagine that he had been existing here like this for many, many years, suffering and “paying” his guilt, without any hope of leaving this terrifying “floor” even before the time came for him to return to the physical Earth!.. And there he will again have to start all over again, so that later, when his next “physical” life ends, he will return (perhaps here!) with a whole new “baggage”, bad or good, depending on how he will live his “next” earthly life... And he could not have any hope of freeing himself from this vicious circle (be it good or bad), since, having begun his earthly life, each person “dooms” himself to this endless, eternal circular “journey”... And, depending on his actions, returning to the “floors” can be very pleasant, or very scary...
Patrick Dempsey's early years, childhood and family
Patrick Galen Dempsey was born in Lewiston, Maine, becoming the youngest of three children in his family. His parents were descendants of Irish emigrants, and therefore always maintained close ties with their historical homeland. In all other respects, the family of our today's hero was no different from other families living in the neighborhood. Patrick's father, William Dempsey, worked as an insurance agent, and his mother, Amanda, worked as a school administrator.

As for the guy himself, he was also always the most ordinary child. Diagnosed with dyslexia, he performed poorly in school. However, he more than compensated for his lag in other areas with his outstanding successes in sports. At an early age he was involved in cycling and also skiing. He achieved a lot in these sports disciplines, and therefore coaches always distinguished him from other guys.
In addition to everything else, Patrick Dempsey also became famous for his ability to... masterfully juggle. At the national championship in circus arts, our today's hero took first place. Surprisingly, it was the ability to handle pins perfectly that first prompted Patrick to think about fame and popularity.
Having gone to New York, he took part in several competitions for young talents, and also acquired his own personal agent. Things were going well, but for some unknown reason, one fine day Patrick decided to leave everything and start building a career as an actor. Thanks to the efforts of the same agent, he quickly found himself a role in one of the theatrical productions and, to everyone’s surprise, turned out to be very wealthy in his new profession. Subsequently, Patrick toured the whole country. This began the actor’s long journey to the heights of American cinema.
