Kogan: Pugacheva, hearing me, said “This is self-indulgence”

Singer Alexander Kogan spoke about his career in the USA, as well as about working with Pugacheva, Iglesias and vacationing with Kirkorov.

The name of Alexander Kogan appeared last year when he burst into the charts with lightning speed and received the Golden Gramophone award. Previously, he loudly announced himself by performing at the Julio Iglesias concert as part of the “New Wave” in Jurmala.

And although Alexander has solid experience behind him, he is still called an aspiring singer. And all because until recently Kogan worked abroad. And the other day his first album was released in Russia, on which our correspondent congratulated the artist.

“You shouldn’t expect easy ways”

– Alexander, you previously toured America with your group, and now you switched to Russia. Have you given up the desire to conquer the West?

– I studied in America and, accordingly, lived and worked there too. We toured, filmed videos... I even had a solo album in New York. But I always wanted to introduce my work to our audience. In general, I believe that for a real musician there are no boundaries. Of course, it’s hard to work for two markets, but if you want to achieve recognition, then you shouldn’t expect easy ways.

– Remember when you first wanted to make music?

– When I was 10 years old, my older sister Darina took me to the first big concert in my life at the Olimpiysky sports complex. She worked as a correspondent for a magazine, so we were given access backstage to the sound check. I was so amazed by this atmosphere, the energy of the live hall! I think at that moment I realized what I wanted to do in the future.

Alexander Kogan: Julio Iglesias is not just a brilliant musician, but also a kind, sympathetic person / Gennady Usoev

Vacationed with Philip Kirkorov

– About ten years ago, you were first introduced to the public by Alla Pugacheva. How did you meet?

– We were introduced by family friends. At that time I was young (laughs) and didn’t really understand how I saw myself on stage, what I wanted to convey to the audience. Alla Borisovna noticed this immediately. She then told me: “For now, this is pampering for you. Let’s not mention your name, but come up with a pseudonym.”

And I became Christian Ako. For about a year. But this year gave me a lot: I learned to work, I realized that music is not only a passion, but also a lot of work. Working with Alla Borisovna is a tremendous experience and a gift.

– You performed as an opening act for Julio Iglesias. Do you continue to communicate?

– We continue to communicate and work together. For several years now I have been taking part in his concert tour. Very soon we will perform in Russia again: on March 6 – in St. Petersburg, on March 8 – in Moscow.

I have said more than once that Julio Iglesias is my creative mentor. Friendship and work with him gave me a lot as an artist. Julio is not just a brilliant musician, but also a kind, sympathetic person. He has a wonderful family, a charming wife and many children. For example, I know five (laughs).

– Now your song “I’m Waiting for a Call” is constantly playing on the radio. Are you addicted to your phone?

– Each time dictates its own rules. Whether we like it or not, now almost the entire world is dependent on the Internet and telephone. Naturally, this theme is reflected in creativity. As for me personally, I spend a lot of time on the Internet, but mostly for work, I don’t have time to just wander around the Internet. But sometimes you really want to turn off all means of communication and be alone with your thoughts.

[:rsame:]

– You recently vacationed with Philip Kirkorov. Did he offer to become your producer?

– We were in Miami during the New Year holidays. Since Philip and I have known each other for a long time and are good friends, we naturally went to visit each other. But there have been no talks about producing yet. But who knows (laughs).

Soon I will present my album in Russian, this will be my first big word in Russian pop music. I am a co-author of many songs. They are mostly about love, but there are also some fiery provocative compositions. Although, by and large, they are also about love.

Alla Pugacheva / Russian Look

– Since we’re talking about love, who did you congratulate on February 14?

– My heart is free now. I would even say that I am actively searching (laughs), so I congratulated all the charming girls.
