In a constantly competitive environment, sports strengthened me and also... helped me overcome my natural shyness.
You are from an ordinary large family, you have two older sisters: Katya and Olya; and also the youngest - Karina. Was it difficult for parents to dress and put on shoes for their four daughters? Did you wear things one after another?
Of course, all my life I didn’t have anything of my own! My parents bought my first dress for prom. But this wouldn’t have happened if I had gotten the outfit from my sisters, and for various reasons they missed their graduation. So, as they say, my childhood was difficult.
Were you friends with your sisters growing up?
When we were very little, of course, we quarreled, sometimes even fought, but this is quite normal. It was always clear to us that we were each other’s closest and dearest people. If a problem arose, I always went to my older sister and asked for protection. Later, my younger sister came to me in the same way for help and advice. We realized early on that we had to stick together. I love my sisters very much and, surprisingly, I see them a lot more often now. Sometimes I can visit them even late at night. One day the driver picked me up from my sister for a shoot at six in the morning because we had been chatting until half past six.
When did you decide to become an actress?
Not right away. As a child, I composed a lot. I remember when I was six years old I came up with a poem: “Put the sausage on the bread and straight into your mouth - you get a sandwich.” Dad was the main critic of my work. Developing erudition in us, on the way home from the station he played cities with us, came up with advertisements, and fantasized. Since then, I began to write a lot, and now mini-essays with reflections on the profession help me a lot in my work. I decided to enter drama school in the ninth grade. I had no business relatives who could help. Only I could arrange my own future. I understood this and entered three universities at once.
Do you remember your first casting?
This was about seven years ago. I was chosen based on photographs and invited to audition for the series “Students”.
I was sure that I would get this role, and I already imagined what I would buy with the money I earned. But then I was told that I was “deliberately pretty.” It’s not clear what the director wanted from me. I was just a child, and he needed a woman.
After another failure at the casting, did you feel like giving up everything?
Never, although there were hundreds of castings. On the contrary, I thought: “What kind of fools are these? Why won't they hire me? They don’t understand anything!” At home I cried alone, scolded myself, but I understood that the castings gave me a huge experience. The teachers were rotten, but it helped me work more.
I have always been diligent and persistent. Every loss only strengthened me.

Was it difficult to break through without connections, patrons and money?
Thanks to connections or money, it is, of course, possible to act in a movie, but to become an actress is unrealistic. Then I zealously wanted to get at least a small role, just to start working, but they didn’t give me a single chance. Children of famous or rich parents have the opportunity to speed up this process, they do not have to go through what I had to go through. But... I know how to wait.
Is it difficult to combine theater studies and filming?
On the set, they came up with a special command for me: “Put the books away!” -I am constantly learning something. I used to want to get a diploma with honors, then I realized that I would use this document to prop up the refrigerator at home. In 15 years, when you go on stage or into the frame, it will be clear to everyone what kind of artist you are. And what you have in philosophy doesn’t matter at all. Therefore, after my first year, when I started actively filming in “Interns,” I set priorities for myself: being in demand is more important. Let the excellent students deal with grades, and I will realize myself outside the university.
The role of Varya, an intern from the series of the same name, is it luck or a well-deserved reward?
I was in class when the message came that I had been approved for the role. I barely endured until the end of the lecture, accumulating a degree of emotion within myself, and then ran out into the corridor and began shouting something incomprehensible. First of all, I called my family, because the desire to make my parents proud of me has always lived in me. I didn’t think about the quality of the project, about promising ratings, about my future life. Finally I've waited! I got the role and realized: the machine has been launched, and this is just the beginning of something very global!
Varya Chernous from “Interns” is a naive and kind girl. Are you similar to her?
In real life I am not at all like her. There are almost no people like Varya. My heroine is a very open person, but I treat people... selectively. Varya does everything from the heart; in principle, it doesn’t matter to her whether she receives a salary. Varya is one hundred percent luck. I advise all women to “turn on Varya” more often.
What awaits Varya Chernous in the new, third season of “Interns”?
She has big changes on the love front - a big romance begins in the hospital. This will be a new character in our series. But, really, I don’t know how long the novel will last, because right now I’m in the process of reading the script.
The heroine of “Interns” Varya begins an interesting romantic relationship. How is your personal life going?
I have had a fiance for a long time! His name is William Demchog, he is the son of my colleague actor Vadim Demchog, who plays the role of venereologist Kupitman in the series. William is five years old, and he is so smart, handsome, and courageous! He loves me even more than the main character of the movie Avatar. So I confessed to my dad!
What qualities should a man have to please you?
A person should have naturalness and simplicity. I don’t need a man as a wallet, I myself aim to work seriously and earn money. Hair color, height, profession are not important to me. I need a man to be sincere in the manifestations of his feelings, promising in his development and simple in his soul. And most importantly, I need a man who would be the same authority for me as a father. I love my dad very much, he is the main man in my life, and I have never met anyone even remotely reminiscent of him.
Do the temptations of the big city, parties, and new acquaintances distract you from work?
I never had the time or desire for this. I don't drink and I don't like club music, it gives me a headache. Some strange men with gelled hair and some crazy clothes go to clubs. For what? You have to feed your family! Money should not be invested in manicures and solariums.
Christina, you look great. Is this the merit of Mother Nature or the result of working on yourself?
Being healthy is part of my job. I don’t eat sweets or starchy foods, I don’t drink soda, I don’t drink alcohol and I don’t smoke.
You have a natural appearance. How do you feel about fashion trends: Botox, tattooing, plastic surgery?
The only thing I do to improve my appearance are minor adjustments: pluck my eyebrows, apply eyelashes, tint my lips with gloss. I prefer to use everything natural, and I consider Botox, tattoos and everything else unnecessary. I am especially uncompromisingly opposed to plastic surgery. To have plastic surgery means to ignore what God gave you. I don’t even encourage hair dyeing; I’ve never dyed my hair myself.
Do you easily agree to try a new brand of cosmetics?
Cosmetics, like a hairdresser, should only be one. I would like to note that foreign brands, although expensive, are worth the money and justify themselves. As they say, the result is obvious. But I don’t trust domestic cosmetics.
Do fans bother you?
No, on the contrary, they are interested in my role and make surprises. One day a fan called and said that a gift, a modest sign of attention, was waiting for me at the Shchepkinsky School. I go out - and there is a huge white limousine, a large teddy bear is sitting in it, everything inside the car is filled with champagne and sweets, and there is a huge bouquet of 101 roses. It was very nice.
You took first place among the sexiest girls in Russia...
The feelings were mixed. Next to me on the list were the first sex bombs of Russia and Ukraine. I think Varya won, not me. And in this case, for my “title” I have to say “thank you” to the “Interns”.
Is your Varya a sexy girl?

Not long ago you starred in an erotic photo shoot. Is it possible to do without nudity at all?
I didn’t agree to this shooting for a long time. But in the end, my colleagues at the Interns said that there was nothing wrong with it. I myself understood: I need to somehow destroy the stereotype of the “Turgenev young lady” that has become attached to me. When we discussed with the magazine the degree of candor of my photos, I immediately said: minimal. There is one photograph where I appear to be naked. In fact, I’m sitting in my underwear, but it was just erased with Photoshop.
Was the tiger you appeared with in the photo real or drawn in?
The tiger is real. I insisted on this myself! When I met him in the studio, I smelled some kind of power: some men smell like that, but only for a split second. And he smelled of natural danger. If he were a man, I would take his phone myself. The trainer said not to look the animal in the eyes, because it immediately makes a jerk towards this person. But I did the opposite! I provoked him, looked him straight in the eye, and after each tiger jerk I jumped back one and a half meters.
What are you dreaming about?
I want to play heroines of classical works in film adaptations of Tolstoy, Chekhov, Dostoevsky. I want to play the role of Conchita with Mark Zakharov and make my own film. I dream of good and serious roles!
