Maria Ivakova: “A man will not solve problems best”

Childhood and family

Maria Ivakova (photo above) was born on June 16, 1986. Its homeland is the city of Temirtau, located on the territory of Kazakhstan.

The Ivakov family often moved from place to place. They managed to live in Kazakhstan, some Russian cities and even in Germany. And all because my father was a military man. But the occupation of Masha’s mother is unknown. Our heroine has a younger sister Alena. She is now 26 years old.

When Maria was 13 years old, her family finally settled in the city of St. Petersburg. The girl was incredibly happy about this. After all, now she could freely walk through parks and embankments. In closed military camps, her freedom of movement was limited.

From an early age, our heroine was involved in dancing, music and sports. She didn't like to sit idle. At the age of 12, during the summer holidays, the girl got a job as a doctor’s assistant in an X-ray room. Masha put the first money she earned into her piggy bank.

Masha Ivakova - biography

Maria was born on June 16, 1986 in the city of Termitau, Kazakhstan. Her father was a military man, so the family often changed their place of residence. As a child, Ivakova managed to visit not only different cities of Russia and Kazakhstan, but even Germany. When the girl turned 14 years old, the family began to live in St. Petersburg.

Ivakova remembers her childhood with pleasure. Despite frequent moves, in her early years she successfully studied music and choreography. Masha was also interested in fashion and style.

The celebrity was an extremely independent child, and his father encouraged this quality in every possible way. At the age of 12, she asked her parents to find her a part-time job, and she was hired as an assistant at a clinic. She earned little money, but then she gained a sense of independence, which later had a positive impact on her career advancement.

Study and work

After graduating from high school, Ivakova applied to the tax academy. She managed to enter the university on her first try. At that time, the girl did not even think about a career in television or show business. However, she also did not turn out to be a diligent student. Masha got a job at an investment company. In just two years, she went from an ordinary employee to a development director. The girl received a decent salary. Her successful career was detrimental to her studies. Maria graduated from university with C grades. But she wasn't upset. After all, for her, real experience was more important than theoretical knowledge.

Television career

At some point, working in an investment company ceased to bring moral satisfaction to Ivakova. The beauty began to help her friend Lera in organizing various events.

In 2008, a good friend suggested that Masha try herself as the host of a TV show that talks about new products in the fashion world. Our heroine agreed. This program did not bring her widespread fame. But the girl got her first experience working on camera.

In 2009, Maria Ivakova launched her own Internet show “From the Hip” on Youtube. In it she told news from the fashion world. This video blog made our heroine a popular person on the RuNet.

In 2010, dramatic changes took place in Ivakova’s life. Masha left the company and started working for herself. Together with her sister Alena, she created The Tailor Shop and an accessories store.

The girl continued to develop her television career. In 2012, she was appointed host of a program about fashion and style. The program was called Trendy. Maria attended social events (shows, presentations of new collections of clothing and accessories), interviewed designers and models. The Trendy program showed high ratings. But Masha lasted there only one year. She wanted further development creatively.

Ivakova had something to do. She tried herself in the modeling business. The bright and attractive girl was gladly invited to various TV shows, to shoot music videos and short films. Maria Ivakova played a small role in the comedy “The Habit of Parting.” It was also necessary to pay attention to the atelier and the store.

“Heads and tails. Shopping": Maria Ivakova

Could our heroine imagine that one day she would be able to travel around the world and still get paid for it? Many people would like to live like this. Maria Ivakova is no exception. “Heads and Tails” is a program that allowed her to realize her dream.

In 2014, a native of Temirtau learned about the casting for a new TV show. An attractive and energetic presenter with competent speech was required. Masha fit all these parameters. She was chosen among hundreds of applicants. The girl believed in her success only when she was given a paper with a filming schedule and plane tickets.

Initially, Ivakova worked in tandem with actor Kostya Oktyabrsky. But he emigrated to the USA. The creators of the TV show quickly found a replacement for him. We are talking about a young Muscovite Anton Lavrentyev. She and Masha immediately found a common language.

Viewers loved watching the adventures of this couple. Maria and Anton had many things in common, namely: a good sense of humor, hard work and irrepressible vital energy. They always informed Russian viewers of new and interesting facts from the world of shopping. Together they traveled half the world: they were in Mexico City, the UAE, India, Hong Kong and so on.

In December 2020, it became known about the closure of the TV show “Heads and Tails. Shopping." This news saddened fans of Masha Ivakova. And the Russians really liked the program itself.

What's in Maria Ivakova's makeup bag?

“When it comes to perfumes, I like to mix several scents. For example, I first apply Escentric Molecules from Geza Schoen to my skin, add a couple of drops of Gypsy Water from Byredo on top, they mix with my body odor and the result is my unique scent. Thanks to this, it is impossible to confuse me with anyone else.”

“That’s it, I use Embryolisse moisturizing face cream always and everywhere. I apply it as a base for makeup, during flights as a mask, and upon arrival I can replace my day or night cream with it. My skin is naturally dry, so this product does its job of moisturizing and maintaining moisture balance very well.”

“I love sheet masks from different Korean brands. I use them in the morning or evening. They really work wonders on the skin: in a couple of minutes they nourish the skin and hide imperfections.”

“And I also have what I call the Cinderella Mask.” Seriously, this is a Valmont Prime Renewing Pack mask with a lifting effect. It contains peptides, as well as other beneficial and active ingredients that remove all traces of lack of sleep, leaving the skin glowing. I always use it before important shoots or events.”

“By the way, if you wake up in the morning and your face looks like a mushroom, then I advise you to jump rope for a couple of minutes. And you will see that the swelling under your eyes will immediately subside. To consolidate the result, wipe your face with an ice cube. Or cut the potatoes into slices and place them on your eyes for 5 minutes. This is such a grandma’s recipe, but it works flawlessly.”

“I really love taking care of my hair. My latest find is Ouai Volumizing Shampoo. This brand also has masks, oil and surf spray (to make your hair look like surfer girls - careless curls). In a word, I use all this regularly and am very pleased.”

“If you have a minimum of time to do your styling, Oribe structuring spray will help you out. It is very easy to use: wash your hair, wring out your hair with a towel (remove excess moisture), distribute the spray, fluff your hair with your hands and dry it with a hairdryer. Voila, the styling is ready. And, believe me, it will be no worse than in the salon. Your hair will definitely look better than after the hands of an inept hairdresser.”

“On trips, on filming, and anywhere else, I always take Batiste dry shampoo with me. It helps a lot if you can’t wash your hair and there’s an event ahead. This shampoo adds volume and instantly refreshes styling. In general, dry shampoo has long become an indispensable styling product that can save you in any situation.”

“My absolute must-have is Lash Sensational mascara from Maybelline New York. I have naturally light eyelashes, so I use it always and everywhere. This is exactly the case when I tried it and immediately fell in love. Now I don’t even look at other mascaras. And I always have Brow Drama mascara from Maybelline New York with me.”

“I always have a bottle of clean drinking water with me. I advise everyone to drink it as much as possible. This is good not only for the skin (it is always hydrated), but also for overall well-being.”

“I also carry eye drops with me: they are especially helpful during flights. In general, after using them, the world looks lighter. I also carry a mini tube of L'Occitane Vanilla & Shea Hand Cream with me everywhere I go. It moisturizes well, absorbs quickly and does not leave a greasy film. By the way, it’s in my latest beauty box.”

True, in Russia it has no legal force.

Maria Ivakova is constantly on the move: either she needs to shoot on the beach in Thailand, then she needs to buy dresses in Milan and figure out how to use her gold bank card in Paris. For many, such a job seems like a dream, but Maria admits: shopping does not bring real pleasure, and traveling cannot replace simple human joys and homemade cheesecakes in the morning. In an exclusive interview with Grazia, the TV presenter told how to enjoy life, why you shouldn’t watch “Dom-2” and other people’s Instagrams, and what she would like to become if she didn’t work on television.

Do you travel a lot for work, do you enjoy being on the road?

Numerical advantage: 5 interesting facts about Maria Sharapova

I like it when it’s comfortable on an airplane. Before Tails, I had real aerophobia, I was very afraid of flying. Although, to be honest, I overstep myself every time I get on a plane, and I feel uneasy if during the flight we find ourselves in a turbulence zone.

Do you have life hacks on how to survive a long flight?

I just sleep - that's the best way. Sometimes we fly for ten hours, then have a transfer and another ten, then I take sleeping pills with me so that I can sleep through at least one flight. Of course, I don’t fly without a cosmetic bag; I have a whole package with me: a fabric mask, toner, emulsion, serum and moisturizer. I have a lot of makeup, and I always put on my own makeup for filming, although I prefer my face without makeup, without black smokey eyes and red lipstick. In ordinary life, I limit myself to BB cream, dye my eyebrows and eyelashes.

So you are in favor of complete naturalness?

I myself have not injected myself and will try to delay this moment until the last minute. But I can’t be categorical about them either. I believe that their use is a matter of time. When obvious wrinkles begin to bother you, sooner or later you will have to resort to some kind of injections. I am against it when girls inject Botox so that their whole face is unnaturally smooth, without a single wrinkle. There should still be some naturalness. I definitely wouldn’t do any noticeable plastic surgery for myself. But many people make themselves these creepy huge lips, nose, cheekbones - you look and are surprised at how similar they are to each other.

And they say that Russian girls are the most beautiful.

This is true! Absolute. When I return from trips, especially in Asia, I admire the girls who sit at Russian customs: they are always well-groomed, with manicures and beautiful makeup. I also like the residents of Copenhagen, Sweden, Denmark - they are all similar to ours. There are very beautiful girls in Africa, I also really like Brazilian girls, Korean girls, however, many are “made” there, because plastic surgery is very developed there. Also Japanese women - I looked at them with admiration. But the laurels of championship are borne by our girls and Ukrainians - the most beautiful in the world.

What about men?

The main beauties definitely live in Sweden. Tall, huge blondes. I also like the Irish - not because they are red, but because they are big. I have always been attracted to handsome men. When you walk into a room, and there stands this “cabinet” about two meters high and smiles at you. And you think: “Ah! Well hello!". (Laughs

)

Are our men losing to them?

Only if in football! (Smiles)

Our men are wonderful. Although they are not handsome, this is a fact; our gene pool rests on women. But a man must first of all be a man.

What kind of man do you want to see next to you: so that you can hide behind him, like behind a stone back, or so that you can make independent decisions?

By nature, I adapt well to others, but I will not tolerate a dictator next to me, I immediately say “goodbye!” to such people. I need an easy person next to me, but whom I won’t be able to command, otherwise it won’t be interesting.

What if he ordered you to stay at home and not work?

Then it's not a man. The idea that a woman should stay at home is a relic of the past, some kind of antediluvian foundations. Not that I am a feminist, but I am sure that a woman can develop in different areas, and is often more successful than men. If she feels the need for fulfillment, she must work. If a man forbids her to do this, then this is a question for the man. Maybe he has a complex? Afraid that a woman can do a better job than him? Fortunately, I didn’t come across any men who wanted to put me at home; I’m not a home person at all.

Do you think you can be successful in your career while devoting a lot of time to your family and raising a child?

Of course, I haven’t tried this, but I’m one hundred percent sure that it’s possible. Why don't I still have a family? Yes, because I take this very seriously. Children are a global story for me. Many people give birth at the age of 20 and take it calmly. For me, this is a whole chapter of life called “I am becoming a mother.” It seems to me that giving birth and raising a child is like building a rocket. I understand that when children appear, I will need to take a short break in my career; it will be impossible to afford a schedule like it is now. The day before yesterday I flew home, my friends gave me a surprise at home. One of my friends came with two small children, who, of course, destroyed the apartment. And for a moment I imagined how I would fly in from filming, open the door, and there would be two people saying “Woooooo!” are running towards me. I wanted to hide from them. I feel like right now I just don’t have that much energy to give to anyone. But I really want to be a mother and I will definitely be one when the time comes. And I will have time to do everything, build a career, and build children, because when all areas of your life are in balance - friends, work, health, personal life, spiritual development, creativity - then you have time for everything.

Are you in balance now?

I'll be honest: no. I work a lot because when I feel energy, I spend all of it on work and leave absolutely no time for myself. Recently I worked and worked, and then I sat down and thought: “What kind of pleasure have I had lately?” So, I realized that I didn’t have any pleasures at all for a month, except that I snatched some kind of massage. I realized that this is impossible, I live and am not happy about anything! Now I try to enjoy life so that I have inspiration and strength to work. Pleasure is simple things, for example, communicating with loved ones, rollerblading in the park, cooking a delicious breakfast. Many people don’t see anything special in this, they get stuck in the office-work routine and envy me that I constantly fly to different countries. But on the contrary, I want some kind of “grounding”, I want to stay at home, enjoy simple human joys.

Maria in Rasario dress

Is shopping one of these pleasures?

Probably not. Buying yourself one hundred and forty-seven shoes - yes, sometimes it can be good therapy. You pick them up from the store and think: “How good!”, and five minutes later: “Why do I need them?” Shopping is empty. It’s better not to get carried away with it, because it doesn’t give you energy. It’s more useful to read a book, listen to music, help someone: transfer money to charity, pick up a dog from a shelter. I would advise buying less and watching less TV. Yes, it’s probably strange to hear this from a TV presenter. Of course, watch my program, enjoy good auteur cinema, but forget about politics, news, all this dirt that is imposed on us. I recently went to Kazan, talked with local residents there, and was shocked by what was in people’s heads. They live in a parallel reality. One person seriously told me that the earth is flat. Most of all I want people to stop watching Dom-2. Yes, unfortunately, many people still watch this terrible program. So much dirt, how can anyone even be attracted to it? And one more simple piece of advice: don’t be guided by other people’s Instagrams, which are full of ideal lives. This life is drawn with photoshop and smoothed out with plastic surgery! Don’t be fooled by this and develop yourself, listen to your inner voice to understand what you really want. And if you really want something, then anything is possible.

In one interview, you said that you regret that a person cannot master many professions in his life. Do you still think so?

Yes it's true. There are so many areas I would like to delve into! I am especially concerned about the environment now. I travel around the world and see that global warming is not a myth. We see these changes and it seems normal to us. But this is not so, and it’s not for nothing that Leonardo DiCaprio talks a lot about it. I was in China, I saw this terrible smog: because of it you can’t see the sun, you really can’t breathe. In Alaska, a woman told me that spring has come a month earlier for the last three years. This is really very important, I would really like to understand this topic and help as much as I can.
