The love story of Olya Polyakova and her businessman husband

The Polyakov-Baydarov family

Marina was the youngest, fourth, daughter in the family of Russian emigrants Polyakov-Baidarov. From early childhood they were brought up in our traditions and went to the Orthodox Church. They spoke Russian in the house, prepared Russian food, and there was always a large Russian samovar on the table, around which the whole family gathered. Moreover, this tradition did not stop when the daughters grew up and started their own families.

Father Vladimir Polyakov-Baydarov was an opera singer. Mother Militsa Envald (daughter of a White Guard general, had Swedish roots) is a ballerina. She was always a sophisticated woman and taught girls to appreciate and take care of their beauty, as well as to use it in their profession. She believed that the key to an actress’s success lay in external attractiveness and the ability to present oneself. There was never anything floury in the house - Militsa monitored both her and her daughters’ weight. Until old age I was in great shape.

The daughters were different in appearance - some looked like their mother, some like their father. And their names were Olga, Tatyana, Militsa and Ekaterina-Marina Polyakov-Baidarova . Only later did they take on creative pseudonyms in the French style, because it was not possible to express all this to European viewers and colleagues. In their new surnames, the letter V always came first - this meant both the father’s name (Vladimir) and Viсtoria - victory.

The sisters were born from 1928 to 1938. That is, there was a 10-year difference between the older Olga and the younger Marina. It is believed that Marina was the prettiest of all four sisters. But is this really so?

OLGA VAREN (1928-2009)

Older sister Olga Varen started out as an actress, but later trained as a director and worked on television. To be honest, compared to her sisters, she did not achieve much success in cinema. And outwardly, it seems to us, she was also a little inferior to them. Therefore, she acted very wisely and realized herself on the other side of the camera.

In addition, Olga participated in the production of the legendary play “Three Sisters” with the participation of the rest of the Polyakovs and Baidarovs. It was a resounding success in Europe.

I already wrote in an article about the religiosity of the inhabitants of Poland that, due to this very religiosity, they highly value family, children, and family values.
Many of my friends (also immigrants) note that family is sacred for Poles. Well, or almost sacred. And even more so when there are children. It is an absolutely normal situation when a father takes a day or even several days off to help his wife care for a sick child. An even more normal situation is a father who goes with his child to various classes and clubs. Even if they are during working hours. Even at school meetings in Poland there are as many men as women. Dads really participate in the lives of their children, they know that they are interested in what they are doing, they go for walks with them, and so on.

You can argue with me, but for Russia (and Ukraine) it is a completely common situation when wives “harness” and “drag” children, and husbands do not even know where the child’s kindergarten is or what the name of his school class is. Mothers themselves drag their children to doctors, do not sleep day and night during serious illnesses, and so on. Most fathers “plow” to earn money and provide for their family, and disappear at the office for days. Often my Russian friends see them only when it’s time to fall asleep. And in general, children see only on weekends (and on weekends, a working dad is no exception).

At least that's mostly the case in big cities. I hardly remember dads walking on the playground when I lived in Russia. In general, I have never seen dads in any developmental classes.

I hear the exclamations of Russian dads who claim that they are taking care of their children. This is wonderful! But you are an exception.

Perhaps it’s our traditions, our way of life, our division of roles. One harnesses the children, the other works in the office. In essence, they work together for the family, but from diametrically different sides. Maybe the point is that in Russia there is a very long maternity leave, and while the wives are sitting on it, someone needs to work.

In Poland, it is customary for both to work. Maternity leave - one year. If you wish, you can take two years, but you won’t be paid in the second year, although your job will remain provided you work under an open-ended contract “umowa o pracę” (and such contracts are rare). In reality, private kindergartens are accepted from the age of 3 months, so children are often sent to kindergartens early (on average, at the age of about a year and a half) and go to work. In general, both parents work and take care of their children on equal terms.

Personally, I am still surprised to see how many dads walk with their children even on weekday afternoons! And with the elders (together they rummage in the sandbox or run around the town), and with those sleeping in a stroller (I even saw a dad with screaming twins). In the evenings (around 5-7 p.m.) I often see a whole family on the playground - a child, a mother, a grandmother, a father. There are a lot of dads in developmental classes, no matter what time they are. I once went to a children’s play center, and there were as many as two dads with 3-4 month old babies. They quickly changed their diapers, gave them milk, chatted and entertained them. To see something like this in Russia is still fantastic.

I think this is cool and correct. What I’m talking about right now is that both parents pay equal attention to the children, and not in such a way that the children hardly see their dad. But I understand that anything can happen. And let every family live the way it is most convenient for them.

By the way, working women say that employers and employees treat maternity leave very well. In the sense that you don’t have to lie at an interview that you are never going to give birth (or at least in the coming years, etc.). No one is interested in this at all. But if you are going to give birth, they will treat you with respect and understanding, there will be no sidelong glances, no resentment due to constant sick leave, and so on. The same applies to children who go to kindergarten and start getting sick non-stop. everyone has children and families, everyone understands everything. Usually.

One more point regarding the attitude towards the family. One girl said that she usually does not wear a wedding ring. When she started a new job, men initially flirted with her, offered her candy, gave her rides home, etc. And when everyone found out that she was married and had a child, she disappeared as a woman for everyone :-). People respect other people's family, value marriage, and do not decide on it lightly. Again, this is a consequence of the high religiosity of society.

I also heard that it is very difficult for a divorced woman to get married again, such a mentality. It’s easier even if you have a child but have never been married.

These are the family Poles. If you live in other countries, tell us, what is your attitude towards family and children?

ODILE VERSOIS/TATYANA (1930-1980)

The first to become famous was the beautiful Odile Versoix. At her suggestion, directors began inviting other sisters to act in film, including young Marina Vladi. At the age of 11, she made her debut in the film “Summer Thunderstorm,” which also starred Odile and Olga. Later, Odile and the already adult Marina played together in the film “You Are Poison” (1958).

Odile filmed a lot in France and Italy, and she was well known in the rest of Europe. At the suggestion of Laurence Olivier, who saw her in the theater, Versoix came to the UK and starred in several films there.

Odile and Marina were very similar. Her older sister was her role model. If Vladi in her youth was more of a beautiful coquette, then Versoix had some kind of exquisite beauty.

Odile Versoix

Of course, Count François Pozzo di Borgo drew attention to her. He became Odile's second husband, to whom she bore four children. Her first marriage to actor Jacques Dakmin quickly fell apart.

Unfortunately, she was destined to live only 50 years. Both money and connections were powerless against the terrible disease. She was the first of the sisters to leave, and a month later Vysotsky passed away. To say that Marina was depressed is to say nothing.

HELEN VALIER/MILICA (1932-1988)

Hélène Valle's
third sister, Hélène Valle, was named Militsa at birth after her mother. And she first followed in her footsteps, graduated from ballet school. She took her first steps in the corps de ballet of the Paris Opera, and then she was fascinated by the theater. Since 1951, she began acting in films, including with Woody Allen.

Helen was distinguished by a slightly different “breed” compared to Odile and Marina, but she had some kind of special character. Apparently, the ballet past had an effect.

Unfortunately, she also did not live long - at the age of 56 she was struck down by a stroke.

Be that as it may, a talented journalist and economic analyst is always in demand. Therefore, Asker-zade did not remain out of work for long. In the fall of the same 2011, she received an invitation to work on television. A young woman comes to the Rossiya 1 television channel. Here she becomes the host of the news rating program “Vesti”. The charm and intelligence of the new TV presenter were instantly noted by fans of economic news. She very quickly wins the love of TV viewers and the respect of her colleagues.

“Naila Asker-zadeh is very lucky to have a co-host of the program. He became a well-known television journalist with rich professional experience, Andrei Kondrashov, who generously shared the secrets and features of television journalism with his novice colleague. According to the TV presenter, she learned a lot from Andrei Olegovich, for which she is very grateful to him.”

In 2015, a new project appeared on the Russia 24 channel, called “At Working Noon.” Asker-zade becomes the permanent host of this television program. The format of the programs was structured in such a way that the television journalist interviewed famous politicians, economists, representatives of the scientific and creative intelligentsia.

An intelligent, insightful and tactful presenter structured the conversation in such a way as to reveal not only the professional side of her guest, but also his inner world. A subtle psychologist, she sought to show, first of all, the person, and to identify the driving forces that led him to business success or to the heights of fame and recognition in cases with representatives of creative professions.

“Asker-zade, like a true professional, independently collects all the information she needs about a person, not trusting it to assistants and assistants, because she believes that she is personally responsible for every fact presented on television.”

The program quickly fell in love with television viewers and its ratings quickly shot up, so the channel’s management decided to make episodes twice a month. For tact and interesting, intelligent communication, eminent guests willingly make contact with the TV presenter and share details of their private lives.

During the existence of the program, Naila managed to interview such famous people as:

  • Alexey Kudrin,
  • Valentin Yudashkin,
  • Tatiana Golikova,
  • Arkady Rotenberg,
  • Vagit Alekperov,
  • Vladimir Evtushenkov,
  • Sergei Sobyanin,
  • Vladimir Potanin,
  • Valery Gergiev and many, many others.

Despite the huge number of episodes of the program, in which representatives of the Russian elite from various industries were present, the most memorable for the presenter was, of course, the very first guest, who was Oleg Deripaska. Nailya Asker-zade shared her emotions associated with the filming of this episode on her Instagram page.

By the fall of 2017, there was a need to change the format of this TV show. Therefore, the management and creators of the program decided to change not only the concept, but also the name. Now her original program is called “Characters with Nailya Asker-zade”, and the TV presenter’s guests include not only economists and famous personalities, but also government officials and influential politicians.

So she managed to get an interview and talk:

  • Ramzan Kadyrov,
  • Dmitry Peskov,
  • Alexey Kudrin,
  • Sergei Naryshkin.

The year 2018 was very productive for the ambitious and purposeful Naila Aser-zade. This summer she was able to work at the World Economic Forum in Davos. From there, she conducted economic reports for Russian television audiences, and also interviewed various representatives of the world economic and political elite.

However, the talented and versatile Naila Aser-zade is not only interested in economic topics. In the summer of 18, she led brilliantly from the football world championship. She had an interesting interview with football player Denis Cheryshev, who scored 4 goals at this World Cup. The journalist also had a very informative conversation with the coach of the Russian national team, Stanislav Cherchesov.

In the fall of 2018, Asker-zade’s activities were appreciated. The journalist and TV program presenter received a statuette in the “Best Interviewer” category at the TEFFI TV awards. The fact that this award went to Naila according to her merits is also evidenced by the fact that the other nominees this year were such masters of Russian television journalism as Kirill Pozdnyakov and Vladimir Pozner.

In 2019, the television journalist continued preparing and producing programs for the “Characters” television program. And although she already pays more attention to television journalism, she still writes for periodicals from time to time. Although now it is exclusively electronic media. Here she publishes financial and economic reviews, large analytical articles, and news.

MARINA VLADI

The Polyakov-Baidarov sisters: Olga, Tatyana, Militsa, Ekaterina-Marina
The relationship between the sisters has always been very warm. Marina, as the youngest, often listened to her mother. This also applied to the choice of grooms. By the way, she approved of Vysotsky. And before him, Vladi was married twice. From actor Robert Hossein she has two sons, from businessman and aviator Jean-Claude Brouillet she gave birth to a third.

The sisters always strived to be together, which sometimes caused their families to suffer. By the way, the reason for Marina’s breakup with Robert Hossein may have been precisely the need to live as a clan in the same house with the Polyakov-Baidarovs. What he ultimately didn't understand.

Journalistic activity

It is not surprising that the talented graduate with a sharp analytical mind managed to get a prestigious job almost immediately. In the period from 2007 to 2010, Nailya Asker-zade gained professional experience and laid a solid foundation for her future career as a television journalist not just anywhere, but in one of the most authoritative Russian economic publications - the Kommersant newspaper. During these years, she worked as a correspondent and published news items on economic topics. The aspiring journalist amazed her more experienced colleagues and management with her efficiency - during the time she worked here, Naila managed to publish more than 600 thematic articles.

“The young journalist captivated Alisher Usmanov himself with her desire to understand the secrets of the profession. The owner of the Kommersant publishing house rarely communicates with journalists, and getting a detailed interview from him is a very difficult task. However, this influential man repeatedly made an exception for Asker-zade.”

Starting in 2010, Asker-zade went to work for an equally authoritative political and economic publication - the oldest newspaper in Russia, Vedomosti. Here she becomes not only a correspondent. She is trusted with reviews of the most important events in economics, politics and finance.

Despite the fact that this transition was a step up for Naila, Asker-zade did not stay long in this publication. After working for only a year, she leaves Vedomosti.

“As always, Nailya does not talk about the reasons for such a quick departure from a prestigious job.”
