Jean Dujardin, how did they reduce their height in the film Love Isn't True to Size?

Jean Dujardin is a comic actor, known not only in France, but also in other countries of the world. Although he himself, like many actors in principle, was born in a provincial town. But the future star showed great artistic ability from childhood. He even attempted pantomime for some time and loved to philosophize. Cinema brought him enormous fame, especially in his native France. In particular, thanks to the series of films about Agent 117 - a unique but popular adventure-comic parody of the famous agent 007, James Bond. Currently, he is the winner of many prestigious film awards, including the Oscar, Golden Globe and Cesar.

Height, weight, age. How old is Jean Dujardin

This charming French actor and comedian is little known in Russia. But still, he also has fans here - admirers of French cinema. Many fans of Dujardin, wanting to know more about him, also want to know his height, weight, age. It is difficult to say how old Jean Dujardin is at first glance. Especially if you look at the photos in his youth and now. Not only do many French men, and even more so actors, do not lose their charisma at any age. But Dujardin himself, it seems, decided not to succumb to the power of age-related changes. Now he is only 46 years old, although one can say that he looks younger. And with a height of 182 centimeters, he weighs 85 kilograms.

Biography and personal life of Jean Dujardin

The future star of the comic genre was born in one of the French provinces, not far from the capital. The biography and personal life of Jean Dujardin is a topic hidden in secrecy. He doesn’t like to talk too much about his family or romantic relationships, so it’s not even really clear who his father and his mother were. Although there are suggestions that they had nothing to do with cinema and the theater or music scene.

Dujardin graduated from university with a degree in philosophy, and then went to serve. It was in the army that his acting talent found its manifestation. Therefore, immediately after returning, Jean moved to the capital, where he began to play in theatrical productions. A little later it came to cinema. The first popularity came to the future star when the series “Guy and Girl” was aired. The show found a positive response from viewers, so it was filmed for five seasons. For this work he received several prestigious awards.

He began acting in big films only in 2001. The man became especially famous for his role as Agent 117 in the comedy parody of James Bond of the same name. But Dujardin did not limit himself to the comedy genre. For example, he starred in serious detective stories, such as “The Collector” or the drama “Don’t Forswear,” which takes viewers back to the thirties of the 19th century.

Jean Dujardin sacrificed his height for love

The actor became famous throughout the world after the film “The Artist,” for which he received an Oscar. However, Jean has been known in Europe for a long time, and his fame as a hero-lover has been established. And here is another confirmation of this - the role of a charismatic architect in the new romantic comedy “Love is Bigger.”

Actor Jean Dujardin

— Jean, what made you embark on this adventure?

— In general, this kind of comedy is not my style, but I was wondering if I could cope with the role purely technically. I told myself that this was my only chance to play a man one hundred and forty centimeters tall, and in such a way that he would not cause ridicule and ridicule. Then I really got excited about this idea.

— Was it funny to act in a comedy?

— Director Laurent Tirard said that it would be not so much a comedy as a romantic story about Beauty and the Frog. Therefore, while working, we didn’t have to constantly roll with laughter - after all, we had to depict a love story. I was forced to kneel in front of Virginie, look up at her, dance alone, talk to myself - all this was difficult, but interesting.

BELGIAN COMPLEXES

— In real life, do you know anyone as short as your hero?

- Not just an acquaintance - one such person even played in our film. After all, I needed a double (Jean’s height in reality is 182 cm - Ed. ), he was filmed from the back from different angles. Every day he was present on the site, we talked a lot. The guy was a great help with his comments, since my hero found himself in situations that the understudy found himself in every day. But creating a guide to the life of “little people” was not our main goal.

— How was it working with Virginie?

- Easy and relaxed. She, like me, is a workaholic and a perfectionist. (Laughs.) Virginie claims to have a complex because of her Belgian origin and television background, but I can describe her as an exceptionally smart, sophisticated and intelligent woman.

— What kind of girls do you like in life?

- Smart and funny. I really appreciate the charm. But this quality for me is almost inseparable from mental alertness. You can seduce me with understanding, humor, a good dose of motivation and support.

— Was there room for acting improvisation on the set?

— Not particularly, but there were a couple of moments when the director simply left the cameras on and gave us complete freedom. For example, the dinner scene in an underground restaurant was completely improvised. We had some dialogues prepared, but right at the time of filming, Laurent asked us to act and speak on instinct. The same applies to the episode where Diana presents Alexander with a rather scary-looking children's sweater. My reaction was absolutely natural, and this moment was included in the film. (Laughs.)

A SIP OF FRESH AGE

— In what city was the film filmed?

- In Marseille. I had never been there before, but I immediately fell in love with the city.

— Why did you choose Marseille?

“We didn’t want a story like this to unfold in a huge metropolis like Paris or London, because there are so many different people scurrying around in them that a man who’s one meter tall would go unnoticed in every sense. Still, the city needed to be large enough to have a lot of sun - we tried to give it a Californian flavor. Now Marseille is similar to Paris as it was in the seventies - it has the same chaotic, chaotic look. It’s so romantic to see people on motorcycles and without helmets!.. In a world where everything is sterile and standardized, Marseille seems like a breath of fresh air.

— Is it true that some scenes take place at the Liege Opera?

— We didn’t work in the opera building itself. Her role was played by an old train station, converted for filming. These episodes were needed to better understand the character of my hero and the creative atmosphere in which Alexander works.

- So does height matter?

- To be honest, I don’t believe in this. This question arises most acutely when you are forced to stand naked in a closet... or when playing rugby. (Laughs.)

BY PLOT

“Love Is Bigger” is a kind and heartfelt comedy.

The loss of a mobile phone turns lawyer Diana (Virginie Efira) into an acquaintance with Alexandre (Jean Dujardin). He is smart, tireless and damn charming. He has a wonderful sense of humor and seems to have no flaws. Except for one thing... His height is one meter 36 centimeters. This small obstacle turns out to be the source of huge problems and many uncomfortable and funny situations for Diana. But true love can conquer everything. Unless, of course, this is a very great feeling.

Family and children of Jean Dujardin

A topic such as the family and children of Jean Dujardin can be called quite mysterious and obscure. Like much of this talented comedian's past, it is hidden from the press. For example, it is still not known for certain who his parents were, although there are guesses that they were not involved in the world of wealthy people. Dujardin himself had three marriages, which produced three children. The sons have a small age difference, but their little daughter was born quite recently and she is much younger than her half-brothers. True, it is not clear whether his children know each other and whether they maintain at least some kind of relationship.

Jean Dujardin: I'm not at all like the "Artist"!

In this cute comedy, the actor, who has become the embodiment of French playful gallantry and humor, plays a gallant officer who went to the Napoleonic War and disappeared without a trace before even reaching Russia. Suddenly it turns out that this heroic ladies' man cowardly fled from the fields of Bonaparte's glory, and has now returned to seduce women and extract money from the simpletons to whom he is telling about his diamond mines in India.

Still from the film “Heartbreaker”.

— I like to play imperfect characters - this allows me, as an actor, to justify them. For me, it’s interesting to first portray a character as a hero, and then to debunk him - to present him as a simple fraudster! - the actor laughs. “And in general, I love playing dumb guys, if only because it’s a lot of fun, and the public loves them, because they imagine themselves to be very smart compared to them.” A well-dressed, glamorous-looking and at the same time very stupid character - that's so French!

— In your roles, you always seem to wink at the audience.

— Yes, I always try to make it clear to the viewer that they are just watching a movie. It’s like my play within a play, a play within a play, I want to experience pleasure while playing my role. No, I take my work very seriously, but I want to have fun while doing it.

— When did you discover your comedic abilities?

“I decided that it was better to laugh than to suffer!” You always want to run away from some difficulties, personal complexes... It all started for me in high school, when I realized that if I didn’t laugh at myself, I would fall into depression. By the way, it’s not so easy to laugh at yourself at the age of eight! The ability to step back and look at myself from the outside allowed me to see things differently. It became easier for me to live, and in the end it became my profession. This is how the planets turned out!

Jean Dujardin: “I like to play imperfect characters.”

— Has your life changed in any way after the huge success of the film “The Artist” and the Oscar you received for it?

— No, it hasn’t changed significantly. The difficulty was that people made me pay for this success. All sorts of dirt started sticking to me. But why did I have to pay for him, I didn’t call him in any way? I thought I'd just go back to France, put my Oscar on a shelf and look at it from time to time when my ego wasn't feeling well. But alas, this did not happen, and people began to perceive me in a certain capacity. Although all this happened to me quite by accident, I believed, and continue to believe, that our job is simply to film each other. What you see is all fiction, we are just telling a story. What you see is not my life at all! I live a completely different life, and it’s quite painful for me when people don’t believe or understand this. I love trees, my children... I will not give up all this for work! I think people want me to stay in the character of the movie "The Artist" and continue in that spirit. But I don’t want this at all...

Son of Jean Dujardin - Simon Dujardin

This young man was born in Dujardin's very first marriage with Gaelle Demar. Having adopted the charm and talent of his father, from childhood Simon was the same hyperactive and very artistic boy. His abilities allowed him to successfully study in the theater studio. In addition, he draws excellently and can become an artist no worse than an artist. And in order to allow their son to release excess activity for his own benefit, his parents sent him to various sections. So the eldest of the famous comedian’s sons attended two types of wrestling, football and swimming. Jean Dujardin's son, Simon Dujardin, has not yet decided on his future profession, but, in his own words, he is unlikely to continue the acting dynasty. Currently, he is only eighteen and he is dating a girl, but the young man is not yet thinking about creating his own family.

Son of Jean Dujardin - Jules Dujardin

Simon's younger brother and Jean Dujardin's son, Jules Dujardin, also appeared in the artist's first marriage. She and Simon are siblings, but Jules is a year younger. It’s interesting that this boy took on more of his father’s appearance and character traits than the actor’s first-born. Like his father and older brother, Jules also shows talent for acting. He is a very bright, but at the same time quite gentle, sophisticated personality. The young man also has a strong attachment to his father. And he himself, unlike Simon, decided, it seems, to continue the work of their father. Although he is only seventeen years old, Jules is a frequent guest on the set of films with Jean’s participation and has already managed to appear in several films, and also enjoys going to the theater studio.

Jean Dujardin - biography, information, personal life

Jean Dujardin. Born June 19, 1972 in Rueil-Malmaison (France). French actor, comedian. Oscar winner.

Jean Dujardin was born on June 19, 1972 in the city of Rueil-Malmaison.

While studying at school, he paid special attention to philosophy and the plastic arts. Served in the army. After the service, together with other comedian actors, he created the group “Nous C Nous”, with which he recorded a disc of the same name.

He began acting in films in 1999. He made his debut in the series “Guy and Girl,” in which he starred for 4 years in a duet with Alexandra Lamy.

Then he starred in several comedies: “If I Were Rich,” “Car Keys,” “Collector,” “The Wedding” and “Keeping Up with the Roses.”

Dujardin was officially recognized as one of the best comedians in France.

About why Jean became an actor, he said: “When I was 24, I realized that all these years I had been an actor without knowing it. I also played on the playground, then performed in front of friends. But it took me a long time to realize that being an actor was my calling. I grew up in an ordinary family - we had no connection with the bohemian world, so I didn’t even allow myself to dream of becoming an actor. I just constantly played, inside myself or for people, inventing characters and living their characters.”

In 2005, he played the main role - Bris - in the next comedy "Bris the Magnificent" . The film is about Brice, he promotes himself as a cool surfer, but in reality he does not even know how to stand on a board; there is a photograph of Bodhi from the film “Point Break”. Bris considers him a god and asks him to send him a huge wave. But there have never been “ninth waves” on the Cote d'Azur.

Dujardin's comedies continued to be a great success.

In 2006, he played the role of Agent 117 in the spy comedy Agent OSS 117: Cairo - Nest of Spies . 1955 After the death of his friend and partner, agent Hubert Bonisser de la Bath goes to Cairo in search of the killer. Along the way, he completes a number of other important tasks, flirts with local beauties, enters into an unequal battle with Islamists and uncovers a Nazi conspiracy.

The film with his participation “OSS Agent 117: Cairo - Nest of Spies” entered the top ten highest-grossing films in France in 2006, it was watched by 2.3 million people. The image of Agent 117, created by Dujardin, helped him become famous further.

In 2008, he starred in the film “Dirty Rotten Scoundrels” as the gangster Cash. The crime comedy tells the story of the main commandment of a swindler - not to get into fights, especially with those who are armed. Solal forgot about this rule and paid for it with his life. The matter would have ended there, but Solal had a brother - Cash. And Cash decided to take revenge by developing a high-flying scam.

In 2009, he played the prominent role of Agent 117 for the second time in the detective comedy Agent 117: Mission to Rio . The film was a huge success in France, 2.4 million people watched it, the film was more successful than the first. However, in other European countries the film was received coolly. In the same year, Dujardin signed a contract with Hazanavicius to star in five more films about Agent 117. Thus, the films about Agent 117 were popular along with the series of films about James Bond.

A year later, Dujardin tried his hand at the film adaptation of French comics - “Lucky Luke” in the role of Lucky Luke himself. Unlike the 1990s films, this film is a classic version of the comic book.

In 2011, he played the starring role of George Valentine in the drama The Artist . The film takes place in Hollywood in 1927. Silent film star George Valentine is at the zenith of his career. However, the advent of sound films will make viewers quickly forget about it. For young extra Pippi Miller, on the contrary, the road to fame is just beginning. For this film, Jean received many awards, the main one being the Oscar.

The film was positively received by most of the world's film critics and received many awards. Whether he feels the special significance of The Artist in his career, the actor replied: “I already felt that influence at Cannes, receiving the Palme d’Or from De Niro’s hands.” But this is not the most important thing. Jean Dujardin is not the most famous name in the world of cinema, to put it mildly. In France, of course, I am known, but not abroad. Let's be honest, “The Artist” is a breakthrough not only for Michel, but for all the leading actors. A silent film, by definition, has no boundaries; it is understandable to everyone without exception.”

In 2013, he starred in a cameo role in the film “The Wolf of Wall Street.”

A year later he played the leading role - Pierre Michel - in the action film "French Transit" . The film tells how a French police judge has been trying to deal with one of the largest drug syndicates for many years...

Daughter of Jean Dujardin - Jeanne Dujardin

The youngest of the artist’s children and the only daughter of Jean Dujardin, Jeanne Dujardin was born just three years ago. The actor’s baby girl was born to his third and so far last wife, Nathalie Peshala. According to the woman herself, their daughter was named after Jean. The baby is growing up very smart and in many ways is even ahead of her peers in development. Already now, although she is only three years old, her abilities for dancing and drawing are beginning to appear. Little Zhanna has good plasticity, like her mother, who built an excellent career and became a famous figure skater. According to the girl’s father, in the future he would be very happy if his daughter became, for example, a gymnast or continued the acting dynasty with her half-brother, Jules.

Jean Dujardin's ex-wife - Gaelle Demar

Now the ex-wife of Jean Dujardin, Gaelle Demar, became the artist’s first love. It is noteworthy that their relationship began when Jean was a student and, in fact, had nothing special. Their romance was very beautiful. Soon after the wedding, Demar gave her beloved husband similar sons - Simon and Jules. But the usual life and family happiness came to an end when Jean became more famous and the more popularity he gained, the less time the couple spent together. Gael was jealous of her husband’s partner in the show in which the man was then starring. It turned out that the jealousy was not groundless. And back in the early 2000s, Jean took on a mistress, who eventually became his second wife.

TV debut

In 1999, Jean Dujardin made his debut on television. His first notable role was participation in the series “Boy and Girl”. He has been filming in a duet with French actress Alexandra Lamy for four whole years. This is how he earns fame and popularity on television, after which he boldly goes into feature films.

He is especially successful in comedic roles in adventurous comedies, although throughout his career he has tried films of completely different genres. For which, over time, he received the unofficial title of the best comedian in France today.

In the early 2000s, Jean Dujardin participated in such films as “All the Girls Are Crazy”, “If I Were Rich”, “Keeping Up with the Roses”, “Car Keys”.

Jean Dujardin's ex-wife - Alexandra Lamy

The couple dated for almost ten years. The ex-wife of Jean Dujardin, Alexandra Lamy, met the French womanizer back in the late nineties on the set of a comedy sketch show called “Guy and Girl.” But the relationship between them began a little later. And in 2009, after Dujardin’s divorce from Demar, Alexandra married the actor after six years of romantic relationship. The wedding was quite modest, without unnecessary pretentiousness, and took place in a small church in one of the French provinces. Jean's family life with his new wife lasted about five years, after which divorce followed again. However, the reason was not given this time.

Jean Dujardin: A Born Artist

Jean Dujardin was born on June 19, 1972 in the small town of Rueil-Malmaison, France. After graduating from high school, the guy went to work in the construction company of his father Jacques Dujardin, and then went to serve his mandatory military service. After the army, Jean received a bachelor's degree in philosophy and plastic arts, and also began giving performances of his own composition in various bars and cabarets in Paris.

Dujardin managed to make himself known to the general public for the first time in 1996, taking part in the French talent show 'Graines de star'.
Jean came to this project as part of the comedy group of comedians Nous Nous, which in addition to him included other little-known young actors Bruno Salomon, Eric Collado, Emmanuelle Zhukla, Eric Massaud, Philippe Urbe and Luc Anthony. Nous Nous achieved good success and later recorded their own disc, but in 1999 Dujardin left the band to focus on his solo career. Advertising:
In the same 1999, Jean’s full-fledged acting debut took place: in the series “Guy and Girl” he played the main role. The project ended in 2003, at the same time Dujardin divorced his first wife Gaelle Dujardin, who gave him two sons Simon (born in 2000) and Jules (born in 2001), and began dating his partner in the series Alexandra Lamy.

Jean Dujardin photography

Having gained fame on television, Jean realized that it was time for him to move on and began acting in feature films. The films “If I Were Rich” (2002) and “All the Girls Are Crazy” (2003), in which he starred while working on “Guy and Girl,” did not bring him fame. However, the following works - the adventurous comedies 'The Rose Family' (2003), 'Car Keys' (2003), 'The Wedding' (2004) and 'Brice the Magnificent' (2005) allowed him to gain the status of one of the best comedians in France.

But if in his homeland almost every self-respecting film lover knew Jean, then abroad - in particular in Hollywood - no one had heard of an artist with the surname Dujardin. Everything changed after the release of Michel Hazanavicius' comedy 'Agent 117' (2006), a so-called French parody of films about the famous British agent 007 James Bond. The picture became popular not only in France, but also abroad, Dujardin received a nomination for the Cesar Award, and in 2009 Hazanavicius presented a sequel to the funny story, called Agent 117: Mission to Rio. For the second part, Dujardin received his first fee in dollar currency, and it amounted to $2 million. In 2009, the actor legalized his relationship with Alexandra Lamy.

Jean continued to act in French cinema, now as a popular international actor, and in 2011 he had an incredible breakthrough in his career, which was again associated with director Michel Hazanavicius. The film 'The Artist' was released, which was made in black and white - in the spirit of classic paintings of the 20th century. This retro solution captivated the world community, and “The Artist” was nominated for many film awards, including the Cannes Film Festival, the Screen Actors Guild Award, the Cesar Award, the British Academy Award, the Golden Globe, the Oscar and others. awards.

Jean Dujardin has won the Cannes Film Festival, the US Actors Guild Award, the British Academy Award, the Golden Globe and the main award in the field of cinema - the Oscar. Dujardin became the first French actor in history to receive the coveted statuette in the Best Actor category.

Jean Dujardin photography

However, it cannot be said that the phenomenal international success of 'The Artist' opened the way for Dujardin to Hollywood. After Hazanavicius's hit, he starred in the critically criticized French comedy Right to Left (2011), the thriller Mobius (2013) and the comedy 9 Months of High Security (2013), and only after that made his debut in Hollywood . His first American film was Martin Scorsese's comedy 'The Wolf of Wall Street' (2013), where Dujardin played a small role as French banker Jean-Jacques Saurel. Also in 2013, Jean divorced his wife Alexandra Lamy, with whom he had lived together for 11 years.

In 2014, Dujardin again appeared in an American film, and again with a famous director - this time with George Clooney. The comedy 'Treasure Hunters', in which Clooney himself played the main role, was crushed by critics and received mostly negative reviews, so both of Jean's forays into Hollywood were not very successful: 'The Wolf of Wall Street' because his character is far away there not the main one, but 'Hunters...' - due to the failure of the film itself.

Jean Dujardin photography

Jean realized that his successful career in Hollywood was not destined to take place, at least not in the near future, so he returned to filming in French cinema. In 2014, the crime thriller 'French Transit' was released, where Dujardin once again demonstrated that he can embody not only comedic, but also dramatic images on the screen. At the moment, this film is the last 'serious work' in the actor's career.

On December 5, 2020, Jean’s girlfriend, French figure skater Nathalie Pechalat, gave birth to his daughter, who was named Jeanne. In 2015, Dujardin played the main role in the melodramatic comedy “One Plus One,” and a year later appeared in two films of his favorite genre – “Love Is Bigger” and “Super Bris.” The second film is a sequel to the film 'Brice the Magnificent', released in 2005, and, unlike the first part, it was crushed by critics and will definitely not take a place among Dujardin's best acting works.

In 2017, two French films with Dujardin will be released, which do not yet have a Russian-language title - 'Chacun sa vie et son intime conviction' and 'Le petit joueur', in each of which the actor has a leading role. Very soon, rumors about Dujardin's participation in the blockbuster 'Transformers: The Last Knight' will be confirmed or denied, so fans of the actor can be happy - there will be plenty of their favorite on the big screen.

French actor Jean Dujardin: I love trees and Sean Connery

Ladies' man Jean Dujardin makes his first public appearance in the film, wearing a terry robe and white slippers. His character can be called the French Ostap Bender - despite his pitiful situation, he does not give up trying to get rich - and he wants to do this with the help of losers, whom he despises from his height of position.

“Jacques suffers from the disease of our era: he is a narcissist and an eccentric with the letter “M,” excuse my French,” this is how the actor characterizes his hero. - Although at the end of the film he even starts to like him, because I play him, and I’m a good guy! Even when I play a rogue, I still try to endow him with the humanism that is characteristic of me. Every person is fragile, even an inhuman creature can have compassion.

— You are also characterized by self-irony - in this film you are clearly laughing at yourself.

— My way of playing involves enjoying what I do. Yes, I live a good life, and I'm not going to apologize for it. And the actors I admire not only gave great performances, but also treated their characters in a certain way. For example, Sean Connery. You always feel like he enjoys his roles. Or the wonderful Italian actor Vittorio Gassman. When you feel that you are no longer enjoying being in a movie, you need to leave - otherwise you will turn into a robot. Yes, it's a bit of a childish approach, but we really enjoy our work.

— When did you discover your comedic abilities?

“I decided that it was better to laugh than to suffer!” You always want to run away from some difficulties, personal complexes... It all started for me in high school, when I realized that if I didn’t laugh at myself, I would fall into depression. By the way, it's not so easy to laugh at yourself at the age of eight! The ability to step back and look at myself from the outside allowed me to see things differently. It became easier for me to live, and in the end it became my profession.

— Has your life changed in any way after the huge success of the film “The Artist” and the Oscar you received for it?

— No, it hasn’t changed significantly. The difficulty was that people made me pay for this success. All sorts of dirt started sticking to me. But why did I have to pay for it, I didn’t call for this success in any way? I thought I'd just go back to France, put my Oscar on a shelf and look at it from time to time when my ego wasn't feeling well. But alas, this did not happen - people began to perceive me in a certain capacity. Although all this happened to me quite by accident, I believed, and continue to believe, that our job is simply to film each other. What you see is all fiction, we are just telling a story. This is not my life at all! I live a completely different life, and it’s quite painful for me when people don’t believe or understand this.

— You most often star in comedies, which are quite enjoyable for the viewer. When will you star in serious dramas to get all the buzz?

“I just go my own way, I don’t plan or predict anything. I try to embody human emotions, whether in dramas or comedies.

— What do you enjoy most?

- Trees! I live in a wooded area and trees give me energy. Even my last name translates as “in the garden,” because “Jardin” means “garden.” I love trees, my children... And I won’t give up all this for work! I think people want me to stay in the character of the movie "The Artist" and continue in that spirit. But I don’t want this at all...
