ELLE Why do you think you weren’t offered comedy roles before?
LILY COLLINS I feel like the last few years there just haven't been any romantic comedies made about my generation. I’m 25, and the new love films feature mostly forty-year-olds.
ELLE What particularly appeals to you about your heroine?
OK. Despite her position as a single mother, Rosie does not pretend to be a victim, but takes an active position in life. It seems to me that young mothers in modern society are often shown in a negative light, but in our film the heroine creates a very positive image - even in a difficult situation for herself.
ELLE This is your first time playing a mother. How did you prepare for the role? Did she influence you in any way?
OK. I spent a lot of time with Lily Laith, who plays my little daughter, to get to know her better. Her real mom was also on set and I saw how they interacted. It was important to me what made this lovely girl laugh, how her mother managed to persuade her to eat vegetables at lunch. In addition, I have always been very close to my mother - we are best friends. So I mentally switched places with her for the duration of filming. My maternal instinct kicked in. (Laughs.)
ELLE Is there a scene in the film that left you with particularly fond memories?
OK. Of course there is! For example, on our first day of shooting with Sam Claflin (he plays the role of Alex, the heroine’s friend and first love. - ELLE note), director Christian Ditter said: “Go for a walk, do what you want, but try to have fun, and the camera will guide you.” accompany". We walked until 5 am! And we were just happy that we were allowed to be ourselves. Christian used a lot of what we did with Sam.
ELLE What valuable experience did you gain on set?
OK. Our group was very friendly. We had dinner together after work, then went to the pub, and then to the club to dance. The main thing is that director Christian Ditter took part in our forays and understood us perfectly. We actually became a big happy family, communicated closely, and enjoyed Dublin together. ELLE If the heroine of a romantic comedy breaks up with her best friend, four times out of five they will reunite at the end of the film. What do you think about friendship between a man and a woman?
OK. You can love your male friends without being sexually involved with them. One of them makes you laugh, the other delights you with his intelligence, and the third is devoted to you like a dog. (Laughs.) It’s no secret that maintaining balance in friendship is much easier than in love, when the relationship resembles a cardiogram of a heart in a pre-infarction state. I like having such friends. I learn a lot from them about gender relations: men I know tell me things that others, those with whom I have romantic relationships, usually keep silent.
ELLE What is your wish list?
OK. I want to see the Great Wall of China, skydive and star in Meryl Streep.
ELLE What else have you been working on this year?
OK. A few weeks ago I finished filming a Warren Beatty film. This is the story of an aspiring Hollywood actress who falls in love with eccentric millionaire Howard Hughes. The film takes place in the 1950s. I really enjoyed dressing up in period costumes!
ELLE You once worked as a journalist, writing columns for youth magazines. Don't want to do this again?
OK. Certainly! Journalism, like acting, is a terribly contagious business. When I worked as a journalist, I tried to make the people I interviewed feel comfortable. Some spoke calmly about what was taboo for others. The main thing here is an individual approach and good orientation in the situation. I still want to work for different media. And also write a script. And produce! Perhaps I can tie all my desires together and make a film about journalists. And something like this hasn’t happened for a long time.
