Biography
Karen Avanesyan was born on September 18, 1957 in Baku (Republic of Azerbaijan). He comes from an educated and wealthy family. The parents had high hopes for their son. Her father wanted Karen to become an artist or musician. But the boy had his own plans for life. He dreamed of becoming a clown to give people smiles and positive emotions.
Karen spent her childhood in the courtyard of Torgovaya Street. It is also called the Baku Arbat. Together with his friends, he organized small concerts and performances. The boys sang and danced funny. Neighbors came out onto their balconies to watch their “performances.”
Karen Avanesyan discovered his talent as a parodist as a schoolboy. He copied the manner of communication and behavior of teachers. The guys were literally rolling on the floor laughing. And the teachers advised Karen to make parodies not of them, but of fairy-tale characters. The boy listened to their recommendations. Later he joined a local drama club.
Life's twists and turns
In the photographs, Karen Avanesyan and his wife look happy. Behind their smiles it’s hard to imagine what the couple had to go through. The artist does not hesitate to tell the story that Nonna became the very person who saved his life. She was there, never reproaching her husband for anything, in times of crisis in his creative biography. He drew his inspiration from her, and thanks to his Muse, the now famous numbers were born.
It’s safe to say that Karen has been lucky in many ways in his personal life. Karen Avanesyan and his wife live soul to soul, enjoying the true values of family happiness. Their 20-year marriage is proof that real feelings cannot be broken by the “boat of everyday life.” The comedian has no children in his second marriage. Even during her husband’s tours, his wife tries to accompany him on trips, taking care of his health. Today Avanesyan is a sought-after successful artist who often goes on tour. He is consistently provided with work in the “distorting mirror”. The artist recalls that during the filming his condition left much to be desired, but Nonna was always there, calling an ambulance in time.
Even in intensive care, where doctors fought for the life of the parody actor, his wife managed to get through and was next to him. It is difficult to imagine marriages without quarrels, but in their family they last for seconds. Karen speaks of his wife with great affection, and she adores him. Such love is not capable of becoming like the scandalous stories that often break out in the world of show business.

Adulthood
In 1980, our hero graduated from high school. He already knew where he would go. His choice fell on the Institute of Arts, located in the city of Baku. The guy successfully passed the exams.
It was hard to live on one scholarship. And Karen did not accept financial help from her parents on principle. He wanted to become independent and financially independent. So the guy started thinking about looking for a job. He mastered several professions - loader, waiter and assistant cook.
In 1982, the aspiring comedian was invited to work at Azconcert. Avanesyan was one of the main characters in the show program “Parade of Stars”.
In 1984, our hero tried himself as an actor. He starred in the film “The Groom was Stole.” The director praised his performance. Soon another film with Karen’s participation, “Scoundrel,” was released. These films did not bring Avanesyan fame or recognition from the audience. But he gained invaluable acting experience.
The beginning of Karen Avanesyan's adult life
After 11th grade, Karen Avanesyan joined the ranks of the Soviet Army, where he continued to train in parodies, entertaining commanders and soldiers, as well as parodying themselves. After everyday life in the army, K. Avanesyan decided to make his life an eternal holiday and entered the Baku Institute of Arts, which he successfully graduated from in 1985. The parodist connects his admission to an Azerbaijani university with nothing other than an irresistible craving for excitement. This is explained by the fact that it was practically impossible for a Russian-speaking applicant to enter a national institute with teaching in Armenian.
Future comedian Avanesyan went to the army after school
Avanesyan had to destroy stereotypes. In a year, he learned what he had not studied all his life - his native Azerbaijani language, and brilliantly passed to the directing department based on the results of all exams, and he remembers his native language to this day. Karen Avanesyan is considered the only graduate of the Baku Institute of Culture who was able to become famous far beyond the borders of the country - to gain recognition and respect in all CIS countries, as well as in European, Asian countries and the USA. Even during his student years, from about 1982 until graduation, Avanesyan was involved in the pop show program “Parade of Stars.”
Conquest of Russia
In 1985, Karen Avanesyan was awarded a university diploma. He continued to work at Azconcert. However, after 2 years I decided to radically change my life. The guy packed his bags and went to Moscow.
Friends and relatives who had been there for several years helped him settle in the Russian capital. Karen Gareginovich participated in various humorous competitions. In some of them he even received prizes and awards.
Karen Avanesyan (see photo above) continued to act in films. Between 1986 and 1999 Several films with his participation were released. Among them are the comedies “Impotent” and “Ultimatum,” as well as the series “Life after the Hunt.”
Confident steps towards your goal
Karen developed his creative abilities in a local theater studio. Here he was completely relaxed and enjoyed every lesson. Avanesyan’s first role was a monster in the production “King Bang-Bang, or about Ivan the Not a Giant.” The young guy’s talent was appreciated by the strict teachers of the theater studio, who predicted a brilliant acting career for him. Karen was flattered by the warm words of the teachers and the loud applause of the audience, but he dreamed of making people laugh.
After theatrical success, Avanesyan decided to develop his talent. So, the gifted guy began to parody domestic and foreign artists. Karen only had to look at a person to portray him masterfully. He was invited to perform at school events with his signature number, in which he masterfully impersonated the school principal, copying the intonation and facial expressions of the leader.
Despite his obvious talent for parody, Karen's father still insisted on attending drawing and sculpting classes.
He saw his son as an exceptional, famous artist. Karen never argued with his father, but confidently walked towards his goal. Having received a matriculation certificate, the charismatic young man went into the army to repay his debt to his homeland.
Having been demobilized from the ranks of the Soviet army, Karen firmly decided to get a higher education. The guy took aim at the Baku Institute of Arts, where training was conducted in the Azerbaijani language.
It was quite difficult for the Russian-speaking Avanesyan to convince the admissions committee member that he would be able to learn the Azerbaijani language. But luck was on the side of the gambling adventurer; he was accepted into the university.
During his studies, Karen began creative activities. He was offered to become a participant in a popular project on local television called “Parade of Stars.”
The audience warmly welcomed the aspiring artist, and the program received high viewership ratings. In 1985, Avanesyan became a certified director and continued working in a humorous television show.
Two years later, Karen moved to Moscow, where, in his opinion, there were more opportunities for realizing his talent. At first, the artist acted as an entertainer at concerts of such popular Soviet performers as Masha Rasputina, Valery Leontyev, Philip Kirkorov.
Present tense
For several years now, Karen Gareginovich has been a permanent member of the “Curve Mirror” group, created at the Moscow Theater of Humor. He not only performs in various enterprises and skits, but also writes jokes himself.
The team of “Crooked Mirror” toured the whole country. In every city, comedians were received with a bang. The audience has a special relationship with Karen. They consider him an honest, good-natured and cheerful person. And for Avanesyan, the best reward for his work is loud applause in the hall and shouts of “Bravo.”

Karen Avanesyan - biography
Karen Avanesyan, whose real name is Hovhannisyan, was born in 1957 in Baku. Karen Avanesyan and his parents believed that the boy had a creative future, and his father saw him as an artist, and his mother saw him as an actor. True, Karen himself, who since childhood was called “Karlusha” by his friends and relatives, saw his purpose in making people laugh. And since he studied in a theater studio during his school years, this gave him the opportunity to become convinced that his future should be connected with the stage.
Despite the fact that the boy was excellent at many of the roles that he got in the performances of the theater studio, he did not limit himself to acting on stage, but also did parodies. And if at first he simply had fun, parodying his acquaintances or actors, then he began to take his occupation quite seriously.
And even when he went to serve in the army, he did not stop telling jokes and entertaining his colleagues with parodies.
Returning to civilian life, Karen entered the Azerbaijan Institute of Arts in Baku at the directing department, and, as a student, began to take his first steps on the stage, participating in the popular show program “Parade of Stars”.
After graduating from university in 1985, he continued his performances, and after becoming a laureate of the Eighth All-Union Variety Artists Competition in 1987, he decided to move to Moscow.
In the first years of his stay in the capital, Karen mainly worked as an entertainer, but at concerts of famous performers such as Philip Kirkorov, Valery Leontiev, Masha Rasputin and others.

He quickly fell in love with the public, especially for his colorful oriental accent, which, by the way, was part of his stage image, since the artist spoke excellent Russian.
And if until 1997 the artist was mainly engaged in entertaining, then with the beginning of the new millennium he was increasingly offered more interesting work. His humorous talent did not go unnoticed, and he began to appear in such humorous programs as “Funny Panorama”, “Through the Mouth of a Baby”, “Full House”, “Show Dossier”, “Ah, Anecdote, Anecdote...” and others. And soon the comedian gained national fame thanks to his monologues, among which the audience especially liked “A Gift to the Mother-in-Law”, “A Person of Caucasian Nationality”, “Sign - a Black Cat”, “Our People Are Everywhere” and others.
In addition, the artist did not forget about parodies in his performances, portraying famous actors and politicians, which contributed to his even greater popularity.
But the real finest hour came for Avanesyan when he began working at the Moscow Theater of Humor “Crooked Mirror,” whose director was Evgeny Petrosyan. The theater's performances were constantly broadcast on television between 2003 and 2014. With the theater troupe's tours, Avanesyan traveled all over the country, and his best monologues were performed on his stage.
The talented and charismatic comedian could not help but attract the attention of directors, and soon he began to be invited to star in various films. And although he saw his destiny in the stage, he nevertheless starred in 15 films, among which we can note such as “Resort Romance”, “Detective in Russian”, “Life is a Hunting Field”, “Crown of Thorns” , “Rounder” and others, showing that he is also a talented actor.
It is not surprising that in 2009 he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation for his creative success.
