Childhood and adolescence
Nicole Evangeline Lilly was born on August 3, 1979 in the Canadian province of Alberta, in the city of Fort Saskatchewan. Father is an economics teacher, mother is a consultant in a beauty salon. Her parents were very religious, so Evangeline and her two younger sisters were raised strictly. There wasn’t even a TV in the house, and the children were taken to the cinema no more than two or three times a year.

Despite her tight knacks, Eva grew up to be a real tomboy. With her boy friends, she fearlessly went canoeing, conquered steep mountain slopes, and participated in bicycle races. At the same time, she was a sensitive and sympathetic girl, she always came to the aid of the unfortunate and disadvantaged, and took care of animals. As a teenager, she joined a volunteer organization that helped children in difficult life situations. Evangeline taught at a Christian Sunday school, and at the age of eighteen, as part of a charitable mission, she went to the Philippines to help the sick and poor. The girl lived in a thatched hut right in the middle of the jungle, bravely endured the tropical climate and courageously endured the bites of insects swarming around.

Returning to Canada, Lilly decided to enroll in the Faculty of International Relations at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. To pay for her studies, a job was needed, and Evangeline got a job as a waitress in a restaurant. True, she did not work there for long. The modest girl was embarrassed by the behavior of the visitors, who examined her from head to toe and made greasy jokes.

Believing that passengers would behave more reservedly on board an airliner, she became a flight attendant. But having encountered the same problem in the sky, the girl went to work at a gas station, wearing a baggy robe. There she met hockey player Murray Hawn, who became her good friend and later husband. It was he who advised the girl not to be shy about using the external data that nature had generously rewarded her with and contact a modeling agency.

In 2004, Lilly took part in the casting for the American TV series Lost. Unexpectedly, she was approved for the lead role instead of actress Yunjin Kim, who was originally planned. True, Evangeline was almost late for filming due to problems with an American visa, but still managed to prepare the documents on time and not let the film crew down. Interview with Evangeline Lilly about the TV series Lost The role of Kate Austen, which Evangeline diligently played for 6 seasons of Lost, became a real gift of fate for the unknown Canadian actress. The series won many prestigious film awards, among which thirteen deservedly went to Lilly. And although the girl did not intend to devote her future life to cinema, the directors had other plans for her.

The film “Ant-Man” was released, in which Lilly played the role of the Wasp, a girl dressed in a suit that can reduce her to the size of an insect in a split second. The film was received with great enthusiasm, which inspired the producers to create the second part, Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018). If in the first part the Wasp, aka Hope van Dyne, was not at the center of the narrative, then in the sequel she took an equal place next to Ant-Man Scott Lang (Paul Rudd).

It was not difficult for the actress to get used to the image of a superwoman, because she devotes a lot of time to sports and is in excellent physical shape. Even a complex, specially designed latex suit did not pose a serious problem for her. The main motivator for participation in this project was Kahekili’s little son, who is incredibly proud that his mother is Osa.

Personal life of Evangeline Lilly
In 2003, Lilly married the faithful Murray Hone, whom we already mentioned above, but soon realized that she had more friendly than romantic feelings for him.
On the set of Lost, the actress truly fell in love for the first time. Her chosen one was actor Dominic Monaghan, who played drug-addicted rocker Charlie, also known for his role as Merry in The Lord of the Rings.

Having honestly confessed everything to her husband and filed for divorce, Evangeline plunged headlong into a new relationship. Their romance lasted three years, Dominic even proposed to his beloved, but the wedding never took place.
In 2011, it became known that the actress was expecting a child with Norman Kali, assistant director of Lost. In March, baby Kahekili, whose name translates from Hawaiian as “Thunder,” was born. In October 2020, the couple became parents for the second time.

Evangeline Lilly ran away from her family for The Hobbit
We first learned about Evangeline Lilly after the TV series Lost. There she played the main beauty and adventurer Kate Austen, with whom two key characters of the show were in love.
After the end of the series, Evangeline received many offers from big cinema, but she preferred a quiet family life in Hawaii to many of them. Only Peter Jackson could bring her back to the movies. And now Lilly can be seen as a beautiful elf in the third part of The Hobbit.
Nicole Evangeline Lilly is 35 years old. She was born in the small Canadian town of Fort Saskatchewan, where the main attraction was the local hockey team. Lilly's father is an economics teacher, her mother is a cosmetic consultant.
Like her character on Lost, Lilly has always been drawn to adventure. At age 14, she began volunteering for charities helping children. At 18, she was poisoned as part of a missionary expedition to the jungles of the Philippines. Even though Evangeline lived in spartan conditions there (grass huts, mosquitoes and terrible humidity), she remembers this period as one of the best of her life.
After returning from the Philippines, the future actress worked as a flight attendant for a whole year, where she managed to learn French and visit almost every country in the world. Because of her love of travel, Lilly even enrolled in the Faculty of International Relations, dreaming of getting an academic degree and becoming a missionary.
In 2001, she was noticed by representatives of the Ford modeling agency. But at that moment, Evangeline was completely focused on her studies and rejected the offer. Six months later, she, however, signed a contract with them, but only in order to be able to pay for her studies at the University of British Columbia.
Lilly's film career began in 2003. First, she played a cameo role in the horror film Freddy vs. Jason, and then appeared in several episodes of the TV series Smallville and Royal Hospital.
Evangeline Lilly's first great love was Canadian hockey player Murray Hawn. They met in 2002, and a year later they formalized their relationship. As a result, their marriage lasted about 12 months. Later, Evangeline admits that the reason for their breakup was the unpreparedness of both for married life.
Filming in the TV series Lost was Lilly's first serious role. At the casting, Evangeline was very embarrassed, and director JJ Abrams sometimes literally had to bother the actress. All the tightness went away in the first days of filming. Although Evangeline was the most inexperienced among the entire cast, she quickly got the hang of it and became one of the main stars of the series.
On the set of the TV show, Lilly began an affair with actor Dominic Monaghan, who played Charlie in the series. Their relationship developed throughout filming. However, three years later, when things were already heading towards the wedding, the couple unexpectedly announced their breakup.
After the success of Lost, the actress received an avalanche of offers. She even played in three modest films, but then another man appeared in her life - Norman Kali, assistant director of the TV series Lost. At the end of 2011, Evangeline and Norman had a son, who was named Kahekili (a Hawaiian name meaning “thunder”) and Lilly decided to retire from acting for a while.
After the role of Kate, the actress was often attributed to feminists. Lilly herself once admitted that she never understood this movement and since childhood she dreamed of having many children, a family and being a wife and mother who provides home comfort.
Many directors tried to bring Evangeline Lilly back to the movies, but only Peter Jackson succeeded. When he offered her a role in The Hobbit, the actress took time to think about it and then gave her consent. As it turned out, Lilly had been a fan of Tolkien since childhood and dreamed of visiting New Zealand. But family life could not overcome her great passion for travel.
