Sir Anthony Eden, 1st Earl of Avon, served as Foreign Secretary three times during his lifetime - 1935-1938, 1940-1945 and 1951-1955. The peak of his career was the post of Prime Minister of Great Britain. True, this period was short-lived - 1955-1957. The Suez crisis ruined politics.
Eden's first wife, nee Beatrice Helen Beckett (the second spelling of the surname is Beckett), was born on July 27, 1905 in the family of a banker, member of the Conservative Party, William Gervase Beckett and his wife Mabel Duncombe. Beatrice was the third daughter of a banker. The girl was 8 years old when her mother died. Beatrice received an excellent education. And they met Anthony during his election campaign.
CeCe Capwell - Jed Allan (1935 - 2019)
The most recognizable of the actors who played the head of the Capwell family, Jed Allan, passed away on March 10 at the age of 84. He has starred in many high-profile projects, including Beverly Hills 90210 and Columbo. However, in our country he was remembered precisely for “Santa Barbara”. The actor himself considered this series a modern social drama. An interesting fact: one of the actor’s great-grandmothers was from Minsk, the other from Odessa. Jed Allan is survived by three children and six grandchildren.
Free travelers Mahoney: “We fell in love with Baikal and Buuzy!”
Photos by the author and from social networks
The editorial office of infpol.ru was visited by famous “People of the World”
They do not buy plane or train tickets, do not stay in hotels and do not book excursions. They prefer to explore unfamiliar places on their own and travel exclusively by hitchhiking. John and Eve Mahoney are firmly convinced that there are many more good people in this world than bad ones. And wherever the couple stops, there will be those who are ready to shelter them.
It happened this time too: the Mahoney family went to Ulan-Ude directly from Irkutsk and stayed with our correspondent. On October 3, travelers need to leave Russia: John’s visa expires. The next point after Buryatia will be Mongolia. The guests have not yet had time to get to know the city closely, but they assured infpol.ru that they would definitely do so. They also shared their impressions of Lake Baikal, buuzas and the Lenin monument.
Now or never
Moscow is Eva’s hometown: she was born and raised there. Her friends and relatives also live there. John also managed to get used to the Russian capital - he lived and worked there for several years. And during this time, by the way, I learned Russian perfectly.
The guys met, fell in love and got married at the end of last year in Canada. Then we moved to Moscow. And a month ago we decided to leave home and work for the opportunity to travel around the world. Behind are dozens of Russian cities - Vladimir, Nizhny Novgorod, Kazan, Ufa, Chelyabinsk, Omsk, Novosibirsk, Novokuznetsk, Kemerovo, Krasnoyarsk, Irkutsk, Ulan-Ude...
“It’s already difficult to remember all the cities,” Eva laughs.
But the young family still has dozens of new countries, even other continents, ahead of them. They say: they try to stop everywhere at least for a day.
— There is such an international hospitality website - Couchsurfing.org. On it you can find people who are ready to receive guests anywhere in the world for free. And somewhere there are friends, acquaintances, friends of friends,” John Mahoney lists with a smile.
The guys are sure: only during such free travels can you get to know the world and people better.
“We thought: if we don’t do it now, then perhaps we will never do it again!” - says Eva. – You can dive deeper into all this, find out how people live, what they eat, how they raise children and celebrate holidays. All this is much cooler than any, even the most expensive, hotel. Hotels are absolutely the same everywhere. But people live differently. For the most part, they try to feed us, sometimes we cook food ourselves - pasta, borscht.
Most of all, the young family liked Kazan.
“This is a city unlike any other we’ve been to,” John notes.
— Very clean, many beautiful buildings, beautiful embankment. We walked there all day - from morning until late at night,” Eva picks up. – There were so many different events. Somewhere there was a youth concert, student teams performed. There is a piano right on the street, you can play it!
“Fell in love with buuzes”
Eva and John always try to try the local cuisine. They liked Tatarskaya. And the Buryat one simply delighted me.
— We absolutely fell in love with bouza poses! - Eva exclaims. – Very thin dough and great minced meat. No vegetables. Only meat. This is better than khinkali and manti combined! Now we understand for sure that these are different things.
Lake Baikal also made a great impression.
— And Baikal itself is incredibly beautiful. And the road from Irkutsk to Ulan-Ude too,” says John.
- It's like in the movies. The tracks are very beautiful,” his wife supports. – During the month of travel we never used the tent. And when we arrived at Baikal, a local resident took us to a deserted place. We lit a fire, set up a tent and spent the night on the shore.
They admit: it was cold, they even caught a cold. But what we saw was worth it.
“The moon was shining, every pebble, every tree was visible,” recalls Eva.
The Siberian cold does not frighten the young family.
— John from Canada. I think both Siberians and Canadians are “frost-resistant” and are very similar in this regard,” the girl smiles. – But I still endure the cold more difficult.
The travelers had not yet had time to get acquainted with Ulan-Ude. But we still saw something.
“We drove past Lenin’s head yesterday!” We have never seen anything like this anywhere and, as we understand, there is nothing like this anywhere else. This is something very fundamental,” says Eva. – To our shame, we have heard little about the Buryats. But now they found out. One even gave us shelter.
Truckers get into cars without fear.
— There are many different cars on the road, but we are convinced that there are more good people than bad ones, and the former stop more often. These are students, pensioners, entrepreneurs, women with children, and couples. “They all have different specialties and different ages, but they have one thing in common – they are all very good,” says Eva. – If you stand on the road with fear, you will attract bad people.
A lot happened during the trip: the Mahoney family remembers how, while driving past, they were doused with water from head to toe by a huge truck, how John learned to milk a cow in one small village in Udmurtia. And they also believe: there are just as many interesting experiences and new interesting acquaintances ahead.
By the way, the guys have their own channel on YouTube and even an official group on the social network VKontakte - there they post photos and talk about places they have already visited.
Eden Capwell - Mercy Walker (57 years old)
The role of Eden brought the actress great popularity. On the screen, the actress portrayed love, but in her personal life everything was not so smooth: she got married five times. For some time after “Santa Barbara,” she starred in TV series, but then left the film industry, devoted her life to religion and became a pastor. By the way, her only son Tyler played the role of Eden and Cruise’s newborn daughter, Ariana.
He was a confirmed bachelor
Although he came from a large Irish Catholic family of eight children, Mahoney never married and never had children of his own. He suggested to the guardian that this was probably due to observing his parents' dismal marriage, which largely consisted of them either ignoring each other or getting into "big, pretty terrible arguments." As a result, none of the "several long-term relationship" Mahoney never lost his temper, although he indicated that all of his siblings were able to have healthy relationships.

Cruz Castillo - Hey Martinez (70 years old)
Martinez won an Emmy Award in 1990 for his role as the upstanding cop. The actor still appears in TV series. He has been married for more than 30 years, and the couple have three sons. The actor himself admitted that during the filming of “Santa Barbara” he was in love with his partner, Mercy Walker, who played Eden. But he was already married then and did not dare cheat on his wife.
"The Diplomat's Widow"
On November 5, 1923, Anthony walked Beatrice down the aisle. She was 18 years old, he was 26. The wedding took place in the capital's Church of St. Margaret. The newlyweds spent their honeymoon in Essex. Just two days. The handsome husband and charming wife won the hearts of voters. The triumph was amazing. Ideas received 16,337 votes. Eden owed his victory in these first elections primarily to his young wife. Two counties - Warwick and Leamington - became the closest to the Edens. The eldest son, Simon, was born in 1924. The second son, Robert, born four years later, lived only 15 minutes after birth. The third son, Nicholas, was born in 1930. And in 1935, Eden became Minister of Foreign Affairs. Countless photographs of the couple fill newspapers in England. Journalists meticulously describe the Edens' outfits. The family moves to a respectable house in the Mayfair area adjacent to Hyde Park. Beatrice is engaged in raising children, her husband spends most of his time in the Foreign Office - the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Even in his free time, he retires to his office, working with documents. He and his wife rarely went to the cinema. Anthony loved comedies, his wife loved “serious” cinema. And she often had to go to the cinema alone without her husband. The happiest time for the family was going to church on Sundays. Sometimes the Edens and their sons came to Warwick Castle or Windleystone. By this time, fathers Beatrice and Anthony had already died. Eden's mother, aged, turned to charity. Eden worked to the point of exhaustion and hardly rested. The international situation was precarious. Hitler, who came to power, began to shred the map of Europe. Eden now appeared at home occasionally, which gave his wife reason to call herself “the widow of a diplomat.” It is still unknown when Beatrice took on a lover. The sources refer to him as an “American” without giving his first or last name. In February 1938, a “light” came in Beatrice’s life. The husband resigned. They leave for the south of France. Beatrice's inheritance could have afforded this - she received just over £20,000 from her father. It was necessary to take care of the fate of our sons. Beatrice did not like politics and was not interested in it. In December 1938 they went on a tour of the United States. A reception was held in their honor at the fashionable Waldorf Astoria Hotel. Four thousand people came to see them. New York Mayor Fiorello Henry LaGuardia also received the guests. They attend a performance on Broadway, the newspapers are full of their photographs. They were received in Washington by the president's wife, Eleanor Roosevelt. They returned to London for Christmas, bringing with them 100 of their own photographs. During the war, Eden lived at the insistence of Churchill in the Foreign Office building itself. Beatrice tried to decorate the government apartment with fresh flowers and paintings. Full of energy and never tired, she plunges headlong into social work. This courageous and brave woman endured all the hardships of war cheerfully and cheerfully. But cooling was more and more often noticed between the spouses. In 1945, Eden was forced to undergo surgery to remove a duodenal ulcer. The election campaign was going on, and Beatrice spoke at rallies in his place. This year has been difficult for the Edens. Anthony's mother, Sybil, died in June, and his eldest son, Simon, who served as a sergeant navigator in aviation, died in Burma. His plane crashed into a mountain. Their marriage broke up in January 1947. Beatrice left Anthony. Eden recalled how the three of them - he, his wife and son Nicholas - went to the United States for Christmas in December 1946 on the liner Queen Elizabeth to relax in Barbados. This was their last trip together. In New York, Beatrice separated from her husband forever. The son tried to reconcile his parents, but was a complete fiasco. Journalists tried to find out the reason for the breakup of the family, but to no avail. Beatrice explained this by saying that she was “not cut out to be the wife of a politician.” And soon the newspapers were full of the expressions “straw widow of a politician.” They lived with Eden for 27 years and parted as friends. An unknown lover will deceive her. She died on June 29, 1957 and was buried in the family crypt at St. Gregory's Cathedral in North Yorkshire.
Mason Capwell - Lane Davis (68 years old)
The only one from the entire cast of the series who doesn’t even want to remember those times. He is horrified by the enormous amount of text he had to memorize every day. He also notes that he had nothing in common with his hero. After “Santa Barbara,” the actor starred in a large number of TV series, and is now the head of the traveling theater “Santa Susana.” Of all the variety of plays, he prefers to stage Shakespeare. The actor is married and has two sons. He considers children the main gift in his life.

The most beautiful girl in the USA: how Eden Wood, who won 300 beauty contests, has changed.
Eden Wood is now 13 years old. And she, of course, is still a child, but the famous beauty looks much more mature.
Probably, the baby’s early start to adulthood was not in vain. After all, when her peers were carefree playing with toys, going to kindergarten and school, the young beauty was walking the catwalk, advertising all kinds of products, acting in films... And all this was accompanied by endless classes and diets.
As the portal “Znayu” reported, the popular Ukrainian model Valeria Lukyanova, who was nicknamed “living Barbie,” pleased fans with new photos where she showed her ideal figure. It is worth noting that according to subscribers, a person cannot look like this.
This became known thanks to photos that the model shared on her Instagram.
Although the “Odessa Barbie” claims that she flew to Earth from another planet, she takes care of her “unearthly” body, like an ordinary person. The girl also often conducts physical training and teaches fans how to maintain youth and beauty. They, in turn, dream of getting Valeria’s “inhuman” figure.
In the new photos, “Barbie” amazed fans with her six-pack abs, gorgeous long and slender legs and toned arms. Coupled with Valeria’s mystical, gentle appearance, such a figure seemed to the girl’s subscribers an unattainable ideal. Although some critics nevertheless expressed that a girl - no matter what planet she comes from - does not suit such forms and needs to get rid of them urgently, without fooling ordinary people.

Sports dossier: Ironman 70.3 world champion Gustav Eden
Gustav Eden is only 23 years old, but his athletic resume is as long as that of his more experienced and older competitors. Despite the fact that he is an active and quite successful ITU athlete, his September performance in Nice at the Ironman 70.3 World Championship, where he managed to beat Alistair Brownlee himself, was not on his own territory. The Norwegian's focus and efforts are now on winning Norway's first triathlon medal at the 2020 Olympic Games.
“As a child, I started my sporting journey with cycling, because my father was the coach of a local youth team, which also included my brother and sister. In general, we didn’t stay at home, everyone was active. I thought I would become a professional cyclist and compete in the Tour de France, but I also loved running and I was good at it. And in cycling they look down on running, thinking it ruins the “leg.”
“I have medals from international cross-country competitions for the Norwegian junior team. My other running discipline was 2000 meters steeplechase, so I always knew how to run. But I only started swimming when I was recruited by the national triathlon team. I have come a long way to improve it, but there is still more work to be done on my swimming.”
“I still live in my parents' house in my hometown of Bergen. Most of the time I'm at training camps or races. Living in a separate house would be a waste of money. And Norway has centralized all triathletes here in Bergen, with excellent training conditions.”
“Bergen is on the west coast of Norway, so we don’t have as much cold weather and as much snow as other parts of the country. But we have a lot of rain. It's not ideal training weather, but the current bike machines are super efficient, and we have a nice swimming pool here. And I don’t mind running in the rain, you get used to it.”
“I am a very confident athlete. In this part of our country we are known to say what we mean and believe in ourselves. And I knew that I could win the world championship. But it wasn’t a shock to me, as it turned out to be to the rest of the world!”
“Before the World Cup, I had about 8,000 followers on Instagram. Now I have more than 32,000 of them. During the race, my brother shouted next to the track: “Keep it up! You already have +700 new subscribers!”
“I was in Japan for a training camp and found a cap on the side of the road. It looked pretty cool, although I didn't know what the sign meant in Taiwanese. I wore it to the running stage in Nice and the Taiwanese who watched the race went crazy! This cap was from a small temple. Now there is a complete soldout of these caps, and I have a bunch of new fans from Taiwan.”
“I want Norway to get the first triathlon medal at the Olympic Games in history. I want this medal to be mine. And then I will focus on Ironman and dedicate my career to successful performances at Kona. That will be my ultimate goal."
