Childhood and youth
Michelle was born on September 9, 1980 in Kalispell, Montana. The girl's father, Larry Williams, was involved in securities trading, and Karl's mother, Ingrid Swenson, a native of Norway, devoted herself to raising children: two daughters, Michelle and Paige, and her husband's children from his first marriage.

In 1989, the Williamses moved to San Diego, California. Since Michelle began to have problems with her peers, her parents transferred the girl to home schooling. Along the way, she began boxing and also became interested in working in theater and cinema.
Michelle Williams in childhood and adolescence
In the early 90s, Michelle Williams began going to auditions and even participated in episodes of the films “Baywatch,” “Lassie,” and “Step by Step.” At the age of 15, the girl, with the support of her father, moves to Hollywood and at the same time transfers to distance learning. A year later, Michelle receives a diploma of secondary education ahead of schedule and is completely immersed in the acting profession.
Movies
At the age of 15, Michelle starred in the fantasy horror film Species, where she plays the main character Syl in her youth. Having starred in the television films “My Son Is Innocent” and “Teaching Mr. Griffin a Lesson,” in 1998 the girl began working on the image of schoolgirl Molly Cartewell from Steve Miner’s horror film “Halloween: 20 Years Later.”

In the same year, Michelle received the role of Jennifer Lindley in the youth series Dawson's Creek, which ran for 6 seasons. All 4 leading actors - James Van Der Beek, Katie Holmes, Joshua Jackson and Michelle Williams - got off to a good start in this film. In 1999, Andrew Fleming's comedy "The President's Girlfriends" was released in theaters about how two girls - Betsy Jobs (Kirsten Dunst) and Arlen (Michelle Williams) - met US President Nixon (Dan Hedaya).

A year later, the actress transforms into a gay girl in the drama “If Walls Could Talk 2,” in which the main roles were also played by actresses Vanessa Redgrave, Sharon Stone, Chloë Sevigny, and Ellen DeGeneres. In the early 2000s, the actress’s filmography was replenished with works in different genre films: “Perfume”, “With You and Without You”, “Prozac Nation”, “United States of Leland”, “The Station Agent”, “On the First Try”.

In the comedy “Fictional Heroes” directed by Dan Harris, Michelle got the leading role of Penny Travis; in the drama “Land of Plenty” by Wim Wenders, which was presented at the Venice Film Festival, Williams appeared in an acting duet with John Diehl.

In 2005, the actress took part in the filming of the cult drama Brokeback Mountain along with Jake Gyllenhaal, Heath Ledger, Graham Beckel, Randy Quaid and Anne Hathaway. Ang Lee's film grossed $180 million worldwide, and Michelle was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe for the first time. A year later, the drama “The Hawk Is Dying” opens in theaters, in which Williams is included in the main cast along with Paul Giamatti and Michael Pitt.

After a number of works in the films “I’m Not There,” “Provocateur,” “Contact List,” “Wendy and Lucy,” “New York, New York” and “Mammoth,” Williams ended up on the set of the American melodrama “Valentine,” where, together with actor Ryan Gosling, he plays a couple in love. For her performance as Cindy, the actress was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe. The drama about a difficult relationship was presented at the Cannes Film Festival.
In the same year, Michelle was included in the main cast of Martin Scorsese's film Shutter Island, in which she plays in a duet with Leonardo DiCaprio.

In 2011, the biographical film “7 Days and Nights with Marilyn” directed by Simon Curtis was released, in which Michelle played the 60s star Marilyn Monroe. Williams managed to beat other contenders for the leading role at the casting: Scarlett Johansson, Kate Hudson and Amy Adams. The actress was suitable not only in terms of the main parameters of her appearance (height - 163 cm, weight - 56 kg) and visual similarity, as can be seen from the photo, but also in her manner of acting. But still, during filming, the director asked the actress to gain extra pounds. As a result, Michelle gained 7 kg for this role.
The cast of the drama also included Eddie Redmayne, Julia Ormond, Kenneth Branagh, Pip Torrance, Emma Watson. For the first time in her creative biography, Michelle Williams received the Golden Globe Award for Best Leading Actress, as well as nominations for Oscar, BAFTA and Satellite.

In 2011, Michelle participated in the creation of the comedy “Loves/Dislikes,” where Seth Rogen becomes her working partner. At the center of the story is a love triangle. The actress played the role of a married woman who cheats on her husband and plunges headlong into a new romance. According to the plot of the film, she had to appear in front of the film crew in a swimsuit. Williams felt confused. The one-piece red swimsuit with white polka dots did not make the right impression on the actress. However, as soon as she saw her colleague Sarah Silverman in a bikini with an equally enchanting print, all embarrassment disappeared.
In 2013, Sam Raimi's adventure film Oz the Great and Powerful was released, in which Williams took on the role of the good witch Glinda. The film also stars James Franco, Mila Kunis, Rachel Weisz, and Abigail Spencer.

During the same period, Michelle Williams appeared on the pages of fashion magazines, becoming the official face of the Louis Vuitton brand for the advertising campaign for bags for the 2013/2014 season. In the photographs you can see that the actress bears a great resemblance to her acting colleague, the star of the film “The Great Gatsby” Carey Mulligan. The fact is that both actresses are ardent supporters of naturalness. They do not like to overload their face with cosmetics; they often appear in public without makeup at all. They are not seen in plastic either.

In 2020, Michelle Williams starred in Kenneth Lonergan's drama Manchester by the Sea, where she played Randy Chandler, the former lover of the main character Lee Chandler played by Casey Affleck. Michelle was nominated for an Oscar for her work.
In 2020, the film “A World Full of Wonders,” based on the work of the same name by Brian Selznick, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, in which Michelle Williams played the role of Elaine.

Personal life
In 2005, Michelle Williams became close to Australian actor Heath Ledger while filming Brokeback Mountain. The young people began to live together. And soon they pleased their fans with the news that Michelle was pregnant. On October 28, 2005, their daughter Matilda Rose Ledger was born. But unexpectedly for everyone, two years later the couple broke up. The reasons given were varied: the actors’ busy schedule and Heath’s addiction to heroin (those around Ledger were more inclined towards the second version). Now hardly anyone will tell the truth.
Heath had a hard time with loneliness, and because of the divorce, he began using powerful tranquilizers. In 2008, due to an overdose of an unknown substance, the actor died in his sleep. Police refused to divulge what exactly the substance was. The death of her ex-husband was a strong blow for Michelle Williams; for some time she could not even act in films.
After 2010, the actress’s personal life began to improve. At first, Michelle was credited with an affair with her Valentine co-star Ryan Gosling, then Williams began dating Jason Segel.
Michelle Williams with her daughter
After some time, the paparazzi caught her with financial consultant Andrew Youmanse. Michelle, her daughter and Andrew vacationed together in the Bahamas. The American media even talked about the couple's engagement; they allegedly noticed an engagement ring on the artist's finger. But this relationship, for unknown reasons, did not culminate in a wedding.

Michelle Williams now
In July 2020, it became known that the actress secretly got married. But, however, not for Andrew Youmans, as everyone expected. She decided to inform the public about this event herself personally in a long interview with the American publication Vanity Fair. Despite the fact that Williams is not a public person and does not have pages on Instagram or Twitter, she decided to lift the veil of secrecy over her personal life.
Michelle Williams and Phil Elverum
Her chosen one was musician Phil Elverum, performing under the pseudonym Mount Eerie. This is a second marriage for a man. In 2020, his wife passed away from cancer, leaving him with a 2-year-old daughter.
Before meeting Michelle, he lived in Washington, but, according to American media, for some time now he and his daughter have moved to Williams’ apartment in New York.
Michelle Williams in The Greatest Showman
In 2020, it became known that the actress joined the cast of the film about one of the most important villains from the Spider-Man universe, Venom. She will play Anne Weing, a district attorney and the lover of the main character, played by Tom Hardy. The film will also feature Woody Harrelson, Riz Ahmed, Jenny Slate and others. The film is scheduled to premiere in the fall of 2018.

And in the summer of 2018, the comedy “Beauty on the Head” was released, where Michelle got one of the main roles. It is noteworthy that on the set of the film she again met Busy Phillips, her friend in life, with whom she had already played together in the television series Dawson's Creek.
In April of the same year, news was published that the actress would star in the remake of Susanne Bier's film After the Wedding. This time the director will be Bart Freundlich. The main roles went to her and Julianne Moore. The star also took part in the filming of an 8-episode project on the FX channel. Her colleague was Oscar-winner Sam Rockwell.
