From nightmares to miracles
– Emilia, I wonder how long ago your eldest daughter began to turn into a know-it-all? How did this manifest itself?
– From early childhood, Caroline showed an interest in learning. She listened to all the books we read to her with great attention. I noticed how easily she remembers information received at the children's development school, which Caroline has been attending since she was 11 months old. When she was 2.5 years old, my husband and I were amazed that our daughter knew by heart all the children's poems from the book we read to her, and it was about 120 pages long! The child remembered everything he learned, and he was always the initiator of learning. We taught Caroline in a playful way, which is probably why she developed a craving for knowledge. No coercion.
– As I understand it, Caroline already knows how to read? From what age?
– I started reading syllables at the age of 3.5 years. Reads simple words.
– Dad originally explained on the TV show why your children have such names. Was it really like that?
– Caroline was named by my sister, her beloved aunt. They named her in honor of the heroine of our favorite cartoon with my sister, only in the original the girl’s name was a little different - “Coraline in the Land of Nightmares.” (Smiles.) When our second daughter was born, it was dad’s turn to give her a name. He was impressed by Alice, the heroine of Lewis Carroll's fairy tale. These tales are often compared. They say that Coraline in Nightmareland is another reimagining of Alice in Wonderland. This is the history of names.
– Which areas of general knowledge fascinate the girl the most? Are there those that she is not interested in at all?
– Caroline loves everything. There's nothing she doesn't like. She even loves mathematics: I teach her how to subtract and add, and my daughter learns quickly. She loves to study space, we attend events, the planetarium. Maxim Galkin knew that Caroline, at only 3 years old, knows all the national flags of the countries of the world (there are about 200 of them), so he asked her a question about geography, but she gave him a non-standard answer. He loves to study minerals - we have a whole collection of them at home. My father is a geologist, and my grandfather instilled this love in Caroline. Now we have started studying chess and are teaching the little girl how to solve a Rubik's cube. It really seems paradoxical, but Caroline loves all this very much. More recently, this is English. – So far, my husband and I are compatible, but sometimes the questions are complex, and then you can’t do without the Internet. I can admit that before Caroline was born, I didn’t know half of what I know about now. We study everything together.
– If we evaluate the amount of knowledge your eldest daughter has today, then approximately what level of secondary school does it correspond to, in your opinion?
– First grade, I think... Although in geography and art history she will give a head start to an eleventh grader, or even an adult. Carolina knows about 100 famous paintings, and now I have begun to teach her to understand painting. The daughter will be able to distinguish the pop art direction from surrealism, classicism from futurism. First grade, because she doesn’t know how to write yet.

– How did the idea come about to demonstrate the girl’s talents on the TV show “The Best of All!”? How did it all turn out?
– Carolina was noticed by the editor of the “Best of All!” program. and wrote to me. We did not submit any applications to participate. I’ll say more: we didn’t even know about such a program - no one in our family watches TV. The editor contacted me in October and invited me to audition. She saw videos with Caroline on my Instagram. We just participated in a children's competition, according to the terms of which we had to post a video where a child demonstrates his knowledge in some area. I posted it, and the editor of “The Best!” accidentally saw it. By the way, we won the competition. We went through the casting via Skype, and the program editor spoke with Carolina one-on-one. Some time after this, they wrote to us that their daughter had been approved for filming. All this lasted a long time, as it fell on New Year's filming, and everyone was busy. On "Best of all!" We only went in February.
– What impression did Moscow make on Carolina? Did you take your youngest daughter with you to the capital?
– Caroline fell in love with Moscow. Especially, for some reason, in a hotel. (Laughs.) We flew without Alice, we decided not to strain the baby with the intensity of events, since we spent very active time in Moscow: visiting museums, exhibitions, a planetarium... Alice would not have been able to stand it. My daughter liked the hotel the most, I think, because there she was alone with her parents, and the attention was entirely focused on her. But Caroline misses this so much after the birth of her sister.
– I wonder what mode the rehearsals took place? Was the child very tired?
– We arrived for four days: three rehearsals and a day of filming. The rehearsal took about an hour, the start time of classes was agreed upon with us by our editor to make it as convenient as possible for Caroline. There, the daughter was introduced to the stage, shown where to go from and where to go, who to look at, measurements were taken of the costume, and other preparations were made. Caroline was not tired at all.
– How long did it take to film these 13-odd minutes of airtime?

– Did the young lady like Maxim Galkin?
– I liked Maxim. True, immediately after the shooting she admitted that she was embarrassed by him. Now Carolina’s dream is to see Galkin again. Recently, Maxim’s concert took place in Yekaterinburg, and the little girl really wanted to see him, but because of her age, the daughter simply would not have been allowed in. And she really wanted to give him one of the bears. (Smiles.)
– I wonder if the girl later tried to find out from her parents what the “bear fall” that collapsed in the studio was?
– There were no questions about the “mishkopad” - not a single one. (Smiles.)

– Has Carolina changed in any way after filming and airing the program?
– There has been no change in behavior. I probably just became more proud of myself and my knowledge. Caroline was well aware that the whole country was looking at her, and now she must live up to this. If my daughter starts being capricious in public places, I remind her that she can be recognized, and people will be very surprised to see her being so capricious. And the child immediately corrects himself.
– From what sources is Karolina Kulieva’s knowledge mainly replenished?
– Sources for replenishing knowledge are all kinds of encyclopedias and books that are given to us. We visit exhibitions, watch films about space, Caroline studies with her grandfather.
“Isn’t your older sister trying to teach Alice to be smart?”
– He enjoys teaching Alice the alphabet. I can ask Caroline to study with my sister while I'm busy, and she happily brings children's books and explains things to her. Just like I once did to Caroline herself. This is a very nice sight.
– At 3 years old, your eldest daughter gives the impression of a quite serious little person. Have you already told your mom and dad what she will become when she grows up?
– She dreams of becoming an actress and playing Natasha Rostova. Caroline has been attending drama school for a year now and really enjoys it. – Do you plan to continue your career in television?
– We would like her to continue her career on TV. And first of all, because my daughter likes this process. She really likes to feel in this role. Caroline is not shy at all. She loves communicating with people; one can only envy our child’s communication skills.
– Did Carolina manage to make friends with other children from the TV show? Do you keep in touch with anyone you came to filming with?
– During the filming, we met Vadim Kopylov, or, to be more precise, the future emir of Qatar. (Laughs.) We met during a rehearsal.
