Childhood and youth
The artist’s biography began in Leningrad in March 1965 in the family of engineers Raisa and Anatoly Titivin. Sergei had complexes due to his weight and height (current height is 165 cm, weight unknown), so he spent a lot of time surrounded by books. Favorite writers are Anton Chekhov, Mikhail Bulgakov, Jack London and Ernest Hemingway.
After school, the guy entered the Institute of Performing Arts, the Faculty of Scenography and Theater Technology. There I met Dmitry Nagiyev. In their youth, the colleagues were close friends and staged daring performances and miniatures that shocked teachers and classmates.
Nagiyev advised Titivin to take the creative pseudonym Rost. In their last year, the young people got a job at Radio Modern, where they worked until 1996.
Friends and comrades separated
Sergei Tetivin (as written in the artist’s passport) was born in the city on the Neva into an intelligent family that united the blood of many nationalities. The boy’s mother had Ukrainian roots, and his father had Bulgarian roots.
During his school years, Seryozha was very complex because of his height (he was the smallest in the class), so he was not interested in games in the company of his peers, but preferred to be surrounded by books. The boy was engrossed in the following works:
- Anton Chekhov;
- Mikhail Bulgakov;
- Jack London;
- Ernest Hemingway.
Tetivin Jr. dreamed of connecting his future with a creative profession. When peers watched adventure films about brave Komsomol members and children's fairy tales, Seryozha watched films starring Andrei Mironov and Vladimir Vysotsky. Sergei was not averse to action films with the participation of Jackie Chan and Jean-Paul Belmondo. He also loved the theater...
Alone, Seryozha climbed many roofs in St. Petersburg and learned the city from both above and below. Sergei considers his hometown to be his first teacher. He is also grateful to his class teacher, with whose participation he was able to see many cities in the USSR (every holiday his class went on a trip outside his hometown).
After graduating from school, Sergei took the documents to the admissions committee of the Institute of Performing Arts, choosing for himself the Faculty of Scenography and Theater Technology. The young man managed to join the crowd of students the first time. During his student years, another significant event took place in Sergei’s life - meeting Dmitry Nagiyev . Even within the walls of the institute, the guys came up with daring miniatures and performances, which often shocked not only the gray-haired teachers, but also their classmates.
Some sources claim that it was Nagiyev who convinced his friend to turn his complex into an advantage, as if with his light hand Sergei took the pseudonym Rost. In their fifth year, the friends passed a competitive selection for Radio Modern, where they worked as presenters until 1996.
Around the same time, friends began filming their first sketches, combining filming with work on the radio. The first project with which Rost and Nagiyev came to television was the sitcom “Caution, Modern!” The product turned out to be controversial, but the audience warmly accepted it and later fell in love with it. Television success led to the fact that the friends quit the radio station and completely immersed themselves in filming new stories.
After comedy miniatures, Sergei and Dmitry decided to try their hand at the action genre.
The result of such tests was the release of the film “Purgatory” , which tells about the battles in Chechnya. Growth in this picture appeared in the image of a tank driver. The project turned out to be so realistic and pseudo-documentary that some television channels refused to include it in their broadcast schedule.
In parallel with the filming of miniatures and the film, Sergei performed on the theater stage, and also worked as a host of special events and festivals.
In 2002, Rost and Nagiyev made an attempt to launch another common project - “Camera, Motor”, but the friends failed to achieve results comparable to the first common “brainchild”.
Friends had a serious quarrel in 2004. Nagiyev, in the continuation of the show “Caution, Modern! 2,” wanted to become the sole star, leaving his friend in the project only as a screenwriter. Dmitry believed that Sergei had become a hostage to one role and had outlived his usefulness as a versatile actor. Rost was offended by his friend for such a proposal. In 2004-2006, Sergei hosted the game show “The Sixth Sense” on the REN TV channel.
Personal life
Sergei found happiness in his personal life after 45 years. He met his wife Olga in the company of friends. A young gossip columnist (Olya is 20 years younger than her husband) asked for an interview, and Rost agreed.
The actor spent a year wooing the girl’s hand—inviting her to restaurants, taking her to the theater and cinema for high-profile premieres and private screenings. In the end she gave up. On March 13, 2011, the couple had a daughter, Alice.

Sergei Rost and his daughter Alisa
The couple prefer to spend time at home. On weekends, friends with children are invited. This order, says Sergei, was established by his grandparents, and he tries to follow it.
“The house is good when you can throw a ball, a party, like DiCaprio in the movie “The Great Gatsby.” And so boredom and wasted money and years.”
Rost is not a fan of social networks; he publishes photographs not on Instagram, but on his personal website. His fans started a page on VKontakte.
Career in the 90s
After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the film industry in Russia recovered slowly and difficultly. At that moment, Sergei Rost was already a graduate of a fairly prestigious theater university, but somehow getting on the screen was not possible. Therefore, to begin with, Sergei agreed, in collaboration with Dmitry Nagiyev, to host a humorous program on Radio Modern.

The colorful duet of Nagiyev and Rost attracted attention, and in 1996 it was decided to launch a comedy series with the participation of actors on television. So Channel Six began airing the situational comedy “Caution, Modern!”, the star of which was Rost.
The actor, paired with Nagiyev, played absolutely all the roles in the series - both male and female. Sergei, together with Anna Parmas, also came up with plots for the sitcom and wrote dialogue for the main characters.
After 2 seasons of the program were filmed, the project was relaunched on the RTR television channel under the name “Full Modern!” In 2001, the series moved to the STS channel, and new episodes were already broadcast under the name “Caution Modern-2.”
The program brought Rost financial well-being, fame and popularity. However, in 2004, a conflict occurred between Sergei and his partner Dmitry, after which Rost left the project. The series lasted until 2006. The main character of the program was warrant officer Zadov, performed by Dmitry Nagiyev.
Films and theater
In 1996, the first episodes of the television program “Caution, Modern!” were released. Viewers accepted and even loved the controversial prototype of sitcoms. Rost and Nagiyev left the radio, completely switching to the development of filmography.
The following year, the tandem tried its hand at new genres - thriller and action. This experience was the film “Purgatory” by Alexander Nevzorov, which tells without embellishment about the fighting in the Chechen Republic and is therefore prohibited from showing on some television channels.
At the same time, Sergei performed on the theater stage, hosted festivals and other events, for which he received the “Best Showman of the Year” award.

Sergei Rost and Dmitry Nagiyev in their youth
In 2003, Rost starred in the detective story “Mongoose”. He had previously participated in TV series (“Streets of Broken Lanterns”, “Secrets of the Investigation”, “Detectives”), but only now he received a non-episode role.
At the beginning of 2004, the last episode of the show “Caution, Modern! - 2". The creators had disagreements. Nagiyev wanted to become the main star, and leave Rost as a screenwriter, since he had outlived his usefulness as an actor, and all his characters were the same.
This news shocked Sergei, because while working out New Year’s corporate events together, Dmitry did not say a word about the decision made. As a result, the duo broke up. Things went badly for Rost after that.

He was supported at that moment by Alexander Tsekalo, who experienced something similar after breaking up with Lolita Milyavskaya. The actor himself did not give up and continued to work.
He appeared in the new season of “Mongoose”, the melodrama “The Right to Love”, played a hairdresser in the comedy “Kings Can Do Anything”, a producer in “The Keys to Happiness”, a director in “Mistress of the Taiga” and “The Last Minute”. In “SOS, Santa Claus, or Everything will come true!” Rost was reincarnated as a selfish official, in “The Bloodhound” - as a hotel owner, in “Save Pushkin” - as a publisher.

The project “Londongrad. Know ours! This series opened the actor to a young audience, for those whose parents drove them away from TV screens while watching “Beware, Modern!”

Sergey Rost now
The showman is accustomed to the fact that he is rarely offered “serious” roles, so strong is the viewer’s desire to see the funny situations that Sergei’s heroes find themselves in and to hear their sparkling jokes. And if so, then there is no need to disappoint the audience.
True, the film “My Star” with Maria Kulikova and the drama “The Story of One Destination” by Avdotya Smirnova, awarded “Nika”, “Golden Eagle” and the Kinotavr prize for the script, do not fit into the entertainment format.

Sergey Rost in 2020
But the new film that appeared on Rost’s track record in 2019 is again a comedy. He was invited to join the acting ensemble “Let’s Get Divorced” by his old friend Anna Parmas, who shot the videos “Exhibit”, “Ecstasy”, “Drinking in St. Petersburg” for another friend Sergei Shnurov and created “Beware, Modern!”. The artist played a small role as a bandit, a kind of “hello” from the 90s.
Sergei got a similar image in the science fiction film “Not Them.” The main characters are a group of young people from different social strata, adherents of different subcultures, who have gained the reputation of “goofballs” in their hometown. And the Universe, as if deciding to have some fun, places them in post-apocalyptic conditions.
New projects with Rost's participation
Rost is an actor mainly of episodes. After the performer left the program “Caution, Modern!” he is rarely given leading roles. But there are also exceptions.
For example, in 2011, the Ukrainian television company ICTV released a live comedy series “Taxi”, in which Sergei played the head of a taxi service named Valerik. The plot of the film centers on the comical situations that Valerik and his subordinates find themselves in when going out on orders. Together with Sergei Rost, Sergei Belogolovtsev (“33 square meters”) and Egor Krutogolov (“Matchmakers-4”) appeared in the project.
In 2014, Sergei Anatolyevich took part in the filming of the sitcom “Angelica”, playing Oleg Viktorovich, the general producer of a popular TV channel.
2015 was marked for the artist by filming in the detective series “Bhound” and in the project of the TNT channel called “Londongrad”.
The adventurous action film “Londongrad” with Nikita Efremov in the title role quickly won the hearts of TV viewers and became one of the most discussed projects of 2020. Sergei Rost in the series got the role of London lawyer Boris Brickman, who helped the main character get Russian people out of difficult situations in which they ended up in England.
In 2020, 2 screen premieres with the participation of the actor are expected. We are talking about the children's film “Saving Pushkin” and the comedy “Not Them.”
