The boy's father, Sergei Davidyan, sang in opera, performed hits by composer Arno Babajanyan in the 50s, and was an Honored Artist of the USSR. Mom was a famous pianist. Casting in “The Voice”: Andrey Davidyan (2013) The area where the family lived (not far from the Airport metro station) could be called a “nest of nobility.” At Moscow school No. 152, children of writers and actors with development corresponding to their social status studied together with Andrei. Music career

Before being drafted into the army, Andrei managed to show his abilities in the rock band “Leap Summer”, where he luxuriously performed the well-known hits of the groups “Led Zeppelin” and “Grand Funk Railroad”. During this period, his collaboration with Chris Kelmi, Alexander Sitkovetsky and Yuri Titov began. Great interview with Andrey Davidyan In the army, Davidyan ended up in the Marine Corps. After the service, the young man continued musical performances in the “Voluntary Society” team. In 1977, with the arrival of the Smeyanov brothers (Alexander and Pavel), the group was renamed “Victoria”. The style also changed - the musicians performed, in their own words, “Russian funk”.

Young Andrei Davidyan (1973, concert of the group “Leap Summer”)

Andrei nevertheless entered a higher educational institution, but his choice was already at the Institute of Asian and African Countries, where, as a result, he received a specialty as a translator, having perfectly mastered English, French and Arabic. Due to the nature of his professional activity, Davidyan visited Egypt and Algeria. However, the translator's career did not work out. During the years of perestroika, the state no longer gave translators work, and they had to go “free sailing.” However, Davidyan was lucky - Maxim Dunaevsky invited him to the State Variety Orchestra of Russia. Victoria's comrades, Pavel Smeyan and Irina Ponarovskaya, together with their husband, also found a place in this team.

Over the years of his life, Andrei found application for his multifaceted talent in the groups “Rock-Atelier”, “SV”, “Alter-Ego”. The first of these groups collaborated with the Lenkom Theater and performed the cult rock opera Juno and Avos. In this memorable show, a large number of famous performers, including Davidian, appeared before the public.

In 1987, the legendary song “Closing the Circle” was recorded (music by Chris Kelmi).

Chris Kelmi and Andrey Davidyan - “Closing the Circle” (1987) In 1993, the musician created his own jazz-rock/soul/funk project “Sound Cake”, which translated from English meant “Sound Cake”. Indeed, Davidyan’s concerts invariably became a feast for the ears of music lovers who visited the club on Bolshaya Bronnaya, where, as a rule, the musician performed.

Canon. Meeting with singer and musician Andrey Davidyan. Part 1

Audio

In the new episode of the Canon program, Alexander Kruse will meet with jazz musician Andrei Davidyan.
Andrey will talk about his creative family, his childhood and the Moscow rock movement, at the origins of which he stood. – German composer Richard Wagner said: “Music cannot think, but it can embody thought.” Today, perhaps the brightest jazz performer in our country, Andrei Davidyan, will share his thoughts with us.

Andrey Davidyan is a Russian singer and musician working in various areas of pop music. Born in Moscow in 1956 into a musical family. His father is the famous Soviet singer Sergei Davidyan, his mother is a pianist and teacher. Since childhood, Andrei has been interested in music, spending all his free time on tour with his parents. He formed his first ensemble while still at school. In 1972, Andrei became the lead singer of the rock group “Leap Summer”. After serving in the army, he created the Voluntary Society group, which was later renamed Victoria. Then there were such groups as “Rock-Atelier”, “SV” and “Alter-Ego”.

In addition to his musical activities, Andrei Davidyan received a degree as a translator at the Institute of Asian and African Countries. He speaks Arabic, French and English. He worked for some time in Algeria. During perestroika, Andrei became a soloist of the State Pop Orchestra under the direction of Maxim Dunaevsky. In 1993 he created his own project “Sound Cake”, performing funk, jazz-rock and soul. Andrey still works with this team to this day.

The name of Andrei Davidyan became known to a wide audience in 2013, after participating in the second season of the television show “The Voice”.

– Andrey, in your life you were able to consider the talent sent to you by God and direct it in the right direction. Let's talk about those people who helped you find your place in life - about your parents. Please tell us a little about them.

– Thank you for the wonderful question, Sasha. You understand, it’s not like something descended on me. I couldn’t stay away because I was born into a musical family. My dad was a very famous opera and pop singer in his time.

- Honored Artist.

A fragment of the work “Foggy Morning” performed by Sergei Davidyan is played.

– He was really famous because in 1956 the film “Songs of First Love” was released, which became incredibly popular and is even popular to this day. Many people remember that music and that voice. The music was written by Arno Babajanyan, one of our greatest composers, in my opinion.

– Was he a friend of your father?

- Yes, they were friends.

– So you have been boiling in this cauldron since childhood?

– Yes, I’ve been involved in this since childhood, and they didn’t leave me. My mother is a pianist, a very bright person, dedicated to her work to this day - she is 91 years old. She tries to sit down with the instrument and teach, which she has been doing for a long time until now. My parents gave a lot of concerts and toured, here and abroad.

– Did you go with them?

– I traveled here, around the country.

– Are you a backstage kid?

- Yes, behind the scenes. They took me with them because there was no point in keeping me locked up or sending me to a pioneer camp: there was nothing there except torn pillows and childish brawling - in the good sense of the word. But living in a team is also necessary. Our person goes through all forms and stages. I received such a share. Maybe I was looking closely at something, but the music sounded from childhood, because I heard all the rehearsals: how dad sang, how mom played, how large ensembles played, for which the music was arranged. These were quintets, sextets and orchestras. Dad and Mom worked a lot with large, very famous orchestras at that time.

– In addition to your family, I think you were influenced by the environment in which you grew up, because you grew up in the so-called noble nest - in the Airport metro area. Has great people constantly visited your home?

– Yes, and theater actors. I can’t list them all, they were truly great people, and a lot can be said about this. There were actors from the Maly Theater, the Vakhtangov Theater, and the Mossovet Theater. Dad was friends with a lot of people, he was a very sympathetic and hospitable person. Everyone knew that when they came to our house, they would get a good snack, good food.

– What will be a soulful evening?

– Yes, my dad really loved to cook. He always tried to do this and every time he asked, looking into his eyes: “Well, how?” That is, in this sense, I had a hospitable childhood and youth. Naturally, I also communicated with many. How did the big grown-up artists treat us? They said: “Oh, son, well done, grow up, be right.” Some things are put off. Maybe this somehow played some role later.

The song "Mama" is playing.

– You are considered to be part of the so-called first wave of the Moscow rock movement. As the Time Machine group sang, “Do you remember how it all began?” Let's remember how it began.

- Oh, brothers, how long ago it was! I can tell you briefly, because it’s difficult to dwell on everything. At first, I really loved all kinds of drum situations and tried to play percussion instruments.

– Is everything so shock-noise?

- Yes. The rhythm always turned me on: it gives drive. This was useful to me in singing: it is very important to hear the rhythm latently. You can take a tambourine, kabasa or something else, accompany yourself and give the drummer such a “boost”, because this is a very important aspect.

– This is real jazz, its roots. Isn’t that how it started then?

- It's a swinging feeling. Back then we just played the music we liked: Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Grand Funk, The Beatles, naturally. But I understood, and one of my very close friends said: “Old man, try singing this,” and I suddenly began to sing. I tried to sing one, two, three songs. I sang “Creedence Clearwater Revival” - there was such a group. One of the brothers is still alive and performs with this wonderful music, catchy and very kind. She raised us. It was Ozzy Osbourne, young.

– Did you have your first ensembles at school?

– Yes, the first teams were at school: we created the “Leap Summer” group.

- Dancing, girls. Was the group created together with the son of Bulat Okudzhava?

– Yes, with Igor Okudzhava. I lived at his house since I was 14 years old. Dad brought us food. We had some kind of internal trust. We were not controlled, but given over to be torn to pieces by life. We studied at the same school, he was older. We treated each other very brotherly. Igor was a rather lonely person. I was nearby and always knew that some kind of help would be available at this age. Then he went into the army, I saw him off. Then he came and saw me off (and not only him). That is, we did not hide anywhere, but walked like normal, ordinary Soviet people at that time.

– But you didn’t receive a professional music education? You graduated from the Institute of Asian and African Countries. Are you a translator?

– Yes, but all the years that I remember, I studied music: first amateur, and then I had to professionally.

– When did your professional activity begin?

– Somewhere since 1985.

– After college, you went to work in Africa.

– Yes, I worked in Algeria. Then, when I returned, in 1983, it became very difficult, because the perestroika period was already outlined, and no one understood what to grab onto. Of course, we received very good training at an excellent institute, but there was no one to answer for us, and we were left on our own; someone was selling toys. That was the time. Then self-financing and so on and so forth, so it was very difficult.

– In 1985, did you start working for Dunaevsky?

“In 1985, my friends came for me, took me away, and said: “Drop everything, let’s go: Maxim Isaakovich is putting together an orchestra.”

– Then Ponarovskaya also sang there?

- Yes, Ponarovskaya, Weiland, Pasha Smeyan - his eternal memory. He is not with us, he has left. And his brother, Sasha Smeyan, too (they are twins). But Sasha was no longer there by that time, and Pasha and Yura Titov (drummer) came to pick me up at work (I worked in some Ministry of Internal Affairs, taught at some school: there were Arabs there, and I had to translate). Since then I have already sailed in this boat.

– You were considered a rock musician, but now you are a famous jazz singer.

“I’m not jazzy, guys, I’m just a person.”

– Just a good musician, let’s put it this way.

– I can do it now, with pleasure. I want to shake up the old days: gather my guys - I have wonderful musician friends who play rock and roll brilliantly - and maybe make a small tribute.

– You and I decided that a musician should simply be a high-quality musician. He must play both, but love something more.

- He must love something.

– But should it be universal?

– There is versatility in everything. The versatility of singing English or European music, and Russian music is also versatility. I wasn't good at it because I grew up listening to James Brown and Ray Charles. I generally consider him to be my teacher in life, based on the way he sang and the culture he brought. Culture is the most important thing in music, but otherwise, if you “catch up” with the situation, you will come to something. The driving force is culture, the level to which you want to climb. Either you can share something or you can't. There is no ceiling here, here is internal improvement. It's always some kind of work. It is impossible, in my opinion, to do what many are doing in this country. It's better to sing covers than to write bad music.

– So your main goal is to bring culture?

- I think yes.

– What mission do you see in your work?

– To introduce more people to the good things in music. You see, there were many great people on the stage, and they are still alive. I said about Ray Charles, but this is not pop music, this is spiritual, what he started with. This is a man with a very difficult fate.

– Did he perform rhythm and blues?

- Yes. And on the stage there were Andy Williams, Nat King Cole (jazz singer), then Humperdinck, Tom Jones and so on. This is a great pop heritage. They are alive, and monuments must be made to them during their lifetime, because the joy and warmth with which they perform each piece must be learned. I'm trying to figure out who we had. We had very successful, good singers, but they somehow disappeared and left the country. There was Leonid Berger - as a boy I used to go and listen to him record different songs; there was a very warm composer Evgeny Martynov, Obodzinsky as a performer.

– These are the people who carried the culture?

“Suddenly there were very few of them.” They brought warmth, and people really need this. You begin to understand this when you go on stage. I don’t know how to talk about myself, I just see how people are drawn to good things. It doesn't matter what language you sing in (even Mongolian). If you have some kind of warmth that you can convey, and they thank you for it, then you have done something. That's the whole purpose, in my opinion.

The song “Don't Forget Mothers” is playing.

(To be continued).

Andrey Davidyan in the show “The Voice”

Davidyan’s appearance in the second season of the television project “The Voice” turned out to be very interesting. It’s as if the vocalist’s name has been rediscovered for a wide audience. His skill, strong energy and extensive performing experience literally captivated the audience. “The Voice”: Andrey Davidyan – Georgia on my Mind (2013) Literally on the first verse, all the mentors turned to him - Leonid Agutin, Pelageya, Dima Bilan and stage maestro, Alexander Gradsky, who, based on Davidyan’s vocals, decided that he was behind the mentors African American is standing. Andrey chose to go to Pelageya’s team and achieved first place in her team, securing for himself a new round of fame and people’s love.

The sudden death of the “Voice” star could have been caused by a doctor’s mistake

On Sunday morning, “The Voice” participant Andrei Davidyan passed away. A 60-year-old man died of cardiac arrest. The artist’s representative Yuri Denisov told reporters that Davidyan’s death came as a surprise to his loved ones. He also said that the deterioration in the star’s health could be due to the actions of doctors. Let us remind you that Davidyan was first hospitalized due to an attack of appendicitis, this happened three weeks ago. Doctors performed two operations on him under general anesthesia. After the singer began to recover after the intervention of medical specialists, he suffered an ischemic stroke and was hospitalized again. Davidyan remained in a coma for three days and then died.

The actions of the doctors raise many questions from the artist’s representative. Denisov does not understand why Davidyan was not given gentle anesthesia, which older people tolerate much better. The operation to remove the appendix could have caused the star’s condition to worsen, the man is sure.

“We will find out why, at such an advanced age, doctors did not use gentle anesthesia on him, for example. After the surgery, Andrei was bothered by pain, so the doctors gave him more cleaning. He managed to go to Riga for a few days. And suddenly on November 5th he had a stroke. He was urgently hospitalized at the Botkin Hospital. Doctors diagnosed an ischemic stroke. He spent several days in intensive care. I came to my senses. We visited him, he even talked to us, but his speech was very “floating”, every word was difficult to come by. Unfortunately, his condition worsened - he fell into a coma,” Yuri Denisov told media representatives.

Later, Davidyan’s representative told reporters that the capital’s prosecutor’s office became interested in the sudden death of the “Voice” star.

Andrey Davidyan was one of the brightest and charismatic participants in the “Voice” project of Channel One. At various times, Davidyan worked with Zhanna Aguzarova, Alexander Gradsky, the groups “Leap Year”, “Rock Studio” and many other musicians. The fact that the singer fell into a coma became known on the night from Saturday to Sunday. In recent days, the “Voice” star has been connected to a ventilator, a representative of the performer told mk.ru.

Friends and family of Davidyan remember the deceased artist. “I can’t believe that today we lost such a person, a musician, a singer. I was walking along the road in Essentuki and saw his poster. My heart hurts, I will never forget it,” Lyubov Uspenskaya shared on Instagram. “He was not afraid of anything, and already being an unrealistic star with his huge fan club, he went to “The Voice.” Such people are born once every thousand years, and it’s such a pity that he’s no longer there... Andrey, how can that be. The kingdom of heaven to a truly bright person who gave emotions, sun and true love,” Anna Gorodzhaya made such a post in her microblog.

“An artist, a musician, a wonderful, whole person has died. Andrey Davidyan. Grief to family and friends. And to all of us, colleagues and friends, acquaintances and viewers. To us who appreciated and listened. Rest in peace, our dear and unique one,” wrote Leonid Agutin in his microblog.

Personal life of Andrey Davidyan

Davidyan had more than one marriage behind him, but the musician did not like to talk about the women in his life. It is known that the vocalist’s eldest daughter, Maria, settled in Belgium. According to Andrey, she achieved everything in a foreign land on her own, having come a long way: at first she worked in supermarkets, later in a flower company. He is interested in art. The second daughter, Lisa, also went abroad. Andrey Davidyan - JUST ONCE In the group “Sound Cake” Andrey met singer Anna Abramochkina, who later became his new wife. In 1999, this marriage gave birth to a daughter, Katya. She was fond of vocals, graduated with honors from music school, and participated in the show “The Voice. Children".

Andrei Davidyan's daughter - Katya

When her parents divorced, maintaining, by the way, a warm relationship, Katya and her mother moved to Tomsk, to live with her grandmother. It was there that she received an invitation to the casting of the program. Andrei and Anna came to support their daughter for the audition together. Katya discovered a great voice and successfully passed the selection. Unfortunately, all the mentors had already recruited teams, so no one took the girl.

In addition, his nephew Anton Davidyants played bass in the same group with Andrey. The young man is a graduate of Gnesinka.

Voice 2 - Andrey Davidyan and Artsvik Harutyunyan - “Never gonna give you up” In the last years of Davidyan’s life, his companion was the stylist Victoria Kolos, who helped the artist create an individual appearance.

Death of Andrey Davidyan

It's unfortunate, but the life of the wonderful vocalist was cut short very early - at the age of 61. On November 11, 2020, a man suffered an ischemic stroke, which resulted in cerebral edema and coma. Doctors at the Botkin Hospital fought for his life for two days, but they were unable to save the musician. Andrei Davidyan never came out of his coma. On November 13 he passed away.

Andrei Davidyan died of an ischemic stroke.
Farewell to the musician took place on November 16 in Petrovsky Park, in the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
