Mikhail Efremov received his higher theater education at the Moscow Art Theater School. But after the 1st year he was drafted into the army. After service, Efremov continued his studies on the course of Vladimir Bogomolov, and upon graduation in 1987, he headed the Sovremennik-2 theater studio, in which Nikita Vysotsky, Vyacheslav Nevinny Jr. and Maria Evstigneeva played.
Soon the troupe broke up, and Efremov Jr. came to his father, at the Moscow Art Theater, on his native stage, which remembered him as a child.
