How did life turn out for the wives of Boris Berezovsky?

Who is she, the wife of one of the most famous people of the era?

Boris Berezovsky lived an incredibly eventful life. He can safely be called one of the most famous political figures and businessmen of our era. His name is known to everyone, but Berezovsky’s wife Elena Gorbunova almost always remained in the shadow of her famous husband. Who is this woman? How did she attract the attention of this businessman, sophisticated in female beauty, and what role did she play in his life, and what is she doing today? You will learn about this in our article.

Elena Gorbunova

Galina Besharova did not start divorce proceedings even when Elena Gorbunova appeared in the life of her legal husband. If you believe Boris Khinshtein’s book “Beezovsky and Abramovich: oligarchs from the high road”, seeking the attention of the young and glamorous Gorbunova, Berezovsky even abandoned all his affairs for 2 long years. Besharova knew about this, but remained silent. She was also silent when Elena Gorbunova gave birth to Boris Berezovsky two more children: daughter Arina and son Gleb. Even Boris Abramovich’s move to the English capital together with, in fact, his mistress did not force Galina Besharova to resort to any action.

Berezovsky lived with Gorbunova for 20 years before Galina Besharova filed for divorce. Author of the publication “Boris Berezovsky. The man who lost the war” Alexander Bushkov claims that Besharova did this only in 2010. The trial dragged on for more than a year. As a result, the second wife managed to “undress” the oligarch for a record 100 million pounds sterling, even for Britain. A few months later, Boris Berezovsky passed away. So Elena Gorbunova was left alone. According to rumors, she still hasn't gotten married.

Ordinary Soviet family

Elena Gorbunova was born in 1967 in the Moscow region, and in the early 70s the family settled on the third floor of one of the new five-story buildings that began to be built in the village of Voronovo on the site of demolished dilapidated wooden huts. It was the most ordinary Soviet family - parents and two children. My father held the position of engineer at a local state farm, my mother worked as an accountant at a dairy plant. Elena Gorbunova graduated from school here in the village. The girl's biography is no different. According to her teachers, she had a friendly, reserved and perhaps even a little secretive character. She didn’t stand out to anyone among her classmates and maintained even, friendly relations with everyone. The girl's closest friend was always her brother Alyosha. Despite the fact that the children's characters were almost diametrically opposed, this did not prevent them from getting along well and understanding each other.

Nina Korotkova

In his youth, Boris Berezovsky dreamed of entering Moscow State University, but the future oligarch did not pass the competition. Therefore, in the absence of another alternative, Berezovsky chose the capital's Forestry Institute. It was within the walls of this university, according to the author of the book “A Brief History of Poisons and Poisonings” Boris Sokolov, that Berezovsky met his first wife in 1967. At that moment, Boris Abramovich was already finishing his studies, and Nina Korotkova was only halfway through this journey. A few months after meeting, graduate Berezovsky and student Korotkova registered their relationship.

In 1971, the Berezovsky family expanded: their eldest daughter Elizaveta was born, and 2 years later their youngest daughter, Ekaterina, was born. Despite the fact that the couple lived happily for more than 20 years, they separated in 1991. The reason for the divorce turned out to be banal - Berezovsky’s feelings for another woman flared up. However, the breakup was painful both for Nina Korotkova and for Boris Abramovich himself. Until the end of his days, Berezovsky dreamed that Nina would finally find her happiness. However, Korotkova did not remarry.

Natural beauty has yielded results

After graduating from school, the girl left to enroll in Moscow. Became a student at the Institute of Management. She was an average student, but always tried to look impressive, which was greatly helped by her natural beauty. As a first-year student, Lena was repeatedly noticed in relationships with foreigners. This became a turning point in the fate of the provincial girl. To avoid publicity about her frivolous behavior, she became a KGB agent. Attractiveness, sociability and natural intelligence made it possible to easily make acquaintances with people interested in organs.

First marriage

This is how Lena met her first husband, a famous playwright by that time, Mikhail Shatrov. Cultural figures - writers, artists, directors, actors - often gathered in Shatrov's house. Playing the role of a hospitable hostess, Lena listened very carefully to conversations and gleaned the necessary information, which she immediately passed on to the KGB. The couple had been married for a little more than ten days, so she was able to find out little.

After this acquaintance, Lena was often seen in the company of famous journalists and writers - it is not surprising that she simply did not notice young people from the student environment. Elena Gorbunova, whose photos still attract attention, seemed to know that she was created for more.

It cannot be said that Yuri Gorbunov was not prepared from childhood to become a star of the screen or stage. But studying accordion at a music school is usually not enough. That’s why the risky guy rushed to Kyiv in the late 80s to enroll in the Karpenko-Kary Theater Institute. He graduated from it in 1992, when the film industry was rapidly collapsing, but the theater still somehow remained afloat.

After graduation, Yuri Gorbunov returned to his almost native Ivano-Frankivsk, where he worked in the local theater for five years. But the craving for the capital still remained, and my recent marriage pushed me towards new challenges. Yuri went to the capital and initially worked in cultural projects not related to television. And then a case of “there would be no happiness” turned up: classmate Victoria Malektorovich, who hosted the “Three Points” program on UT-1, fell ill, and the channel urgently needed a replacement.

Yuri Gorbunov as you have never seen him:

However, the truly lucky ticket for the showman was “Lucky Call”, the first live interactive show in the history of Ukraine. There, Yuri Gorbunov diluted the female company in the person of Maria Efrosinina and Olga Bura. Friday evening in prime time on the “first button” throughout the year, including on New Year’s Eve - there was no better way to become truly famous in the era of analog television in the country.

The next stage in her professional career was the “New Channel”, where Efrosinina also went to the morning show “Rise” with Yuri. In the first half of the 2000s, Gorbunov’s role as a TV presenter was formed: his lively character and good acting skills were very useful in reality shows and various “competitions with stars.” Yes, and I gradually managed to get used to live broadcasting, which was something I did during the “Happy Call” days.

In 2006, the screen star moved to 1+1, where he still works. If the “Pluses” are starting some long-term project with a bunch of stars in the foreground, then you can be sure that Gorbunov will be present there as either a presenter or a member of the jury. He stayed the longest on Dancing with the Stars, where he never missed a single season. And in 2018, Yuri received his own comedy show - of course, on Friday evenings. Now Yuri Gorbunov also hosts “Voice of the Country”.

Yuri Gorbunov and Katya Osadchaya are the brightest couple on Ukrainian TV:

If we talk about acting, here the KTU graduate showed himself more in TV series than in feature films. But in both cases he mostly plays second or third role. That’s why he prefers to be considered primarily a TV presenter.

Perfect wife

In the family, Lena was a reserved, caring wife, which, of course, pleased Boris Abramovich. A year later, Arina was born to them, and a year later, Gleb.

Berezovsky was generous with his wife's relatives. He built a three-story mansion for his father-in-law and mother-in-law, into which they moved from their three-room apartment. Alexey graduated as a lawyer at Leningrad University, and then returned to Moscow and settled in an elite apartment located on Frunzenskaya Embankment.

Leaving my homeland

Later, circumstances force the Berezovsky family to leave for England and settle in a suburb of London. Elena Gorbunova, whose biography is often considered as information about the third and last wife of the deceased oligarch, is in fact a fairly self-sufficient woman and in herself is interesting to the public not only as a mother of two children, but also as a recognized grande dame. She always attracts the attention of others with her impeccable appearance and ability to make an impression in society.

Main defender

The name and photographs of the third wife of the oligarch Berezovsky appeared on the pages of the press in connection with the scandal that erupted in London, which involved the Russians Roman Abramovich and Boris Berezovsky. Elena Gorbunova appeared in public as a defender of her common-law husband in the case being considered on the charges brought by Roman Abramovich. Her testimony largely played a decisive role in this difficult litigation between billionaire Abramovich and oligarch Berezovsky.

This is where an unspoken confrontation took place between the companions of the defendants in the case. It should be noted that impeccable taste, the ability to behave appropriately depending on the situation and natural intelligence contributed to the fact that Elena had an unconditional victory. This is how amazing Elena Gorbunova looks, despite her age. Berezovsky's wife, whose date of birth, unlike many public ladies, is not hidden, often causes envious sighs from younger women.

With her testimony, she indirectly accused Abramovich of falsifying documents, which served as the reason for a more thorough investigation of the case.

Biography Yuri Gorbunova

Yuri was born in the Lviv region, in the city of New Razdol, and spent his childhood in the Ivano-Frankivsk region. By the way, the showman’s birthday is August 24, Ukraine’s Independence Day. Now the artist is 48 years old.

Yura's parents had virtually no connection to the world of art - his father was a worker at a house-building plant. And his mother, a kindergarten teacher, played the bandura and instilled in her son a love of music from childhood. That’s why Gorbunov Jr. himself learned to play the guitar and accordion during his school years. Also among his interests was amateur performances.

In 1992, Yuri Gorbunov set off to conquer Kyiv - according to the presenter and actor, he himself could not even imagine a career on television or acting in the capital’s theater.

“I never dreamed of theater. Everything happened by chance. I was invited to a preliminary audition for the examination committee of the Kyiv Theater Institute named after Karpenko-Kary, which came to us in Ivano-Frankivsk.

Of the two hundred candidates, only twenty were selected and went to Kyiv for the exams. Out of twenty, only five of us entered. The competition was almost seventy people per place. This is what radically changed my life,” Gorbunov shared in one of his interviews.

The first work on TV, which brought wide popularity to the artist, was the “Happy Call” program - in fact, at that time, the first such interactive show in Ukraine.

This is how Yuri himself recalls this program:

It was the “Happy Dzvinok” project at UT-1 - Masha Efrosinina, Olya Buraya and me - the first interactive show in the history of an independent state with a prize draw.

That is, people called the studio, answered questions, and we raffled off washing machines and cars for a whole year. I don’t remember what the ratings were, but that was just the time when they started recognizing me on the street.

Before the first broadcast, the director offered to rehearse, but I decided that rehearsal was something shameful, it was better to show everything in the frame. And when the camera turned on, I had a clear feeling that I had already experienced these minutes - when I entered the theater institute: the feeling when you do something on the set and seem to see yourself from the outside. It was the same on the air – I seemed to ask myself: “What are you doing here?” Get out from here!"

Since 2000, Yuri Gorbunov began working on the New Channel - hosting the morning show “Rise!” with the same Masha Efrosinina. In 2006 he left for “1+1”, where he leads a lot of popular projects - from “Dancing with the Stars” to today’s “Voice of the Country”.

Yuriy Gorbunov back in 2011 advocated that domestic television should be 100% presented in the Ukrainian language.

At the same time, the artist’s film career is developing: he has several dozen roles in films and TV series, his latest recognizable works being roles in the films “The Last Muscovite” and “Village of a Million.”

Yuri Gorbunov also actively works as a dubbing actor, and also manages to sit in the coaching chair of the “League of Laughter” project. In 2020, Yuri’s team became the winner of the show, and the nickname that the guys came up with for their coach - “Gorbunovich-Gorbunov” - firmly “stuck” to the artist.

Yuri himself considers this significant award to be the crowning achievement of his career: in 2015, Gorbunov was awarded the title of People’s Artist of Ukraine.

Interesting Facts:

  • Yuri Gorbunov is Irina Bilyk’s godfather, they baptized the child of mutual friends together,
  • in 2012, Gorbunov became one of 8 Ukrainians who were entrusted to carry the Olympic flame in London,
  • Yuri is an avid hunter and fisherman, and also a good cook,
  • After forty, Yuri decided to dramatically change his life - he took up yoga for the first time and took English courses.

My husband's infidelity was a blow

But her husband’s gratitude was short-lived; Elena learned about her husband’s infidelity. The offended woman demanded five million pounds sterling to support her children and herself from the proceeds from the sale of their home in Surrey in southwest England. But I never received the money. Since all the proceeds went to pay off the debt obligations of Boris Abramovich Berezovsky. Fearing that she would find herself in a difficult financial situation, Elena Gorbunova went to court, where, at the suggestion of one of the High Court judges, it was decided to freeze about £200 million of his assets to ensure a comfortable life for Elena Gorbunova and her children. Thus, another victory was achieved by this woman.

From this article you learned that Boris Berezovsky’s wife Elena Gorbunova deserves attention not only as the last wife of the oligarch and the mother of his two children, but also as a woman with a difficult life story. The trials that befell her only strengthened her fortitude and allowed her to achieve a lot.

Person of the Russian Federation

“Berezovsky was still married to Galina at that time. I remember that when I first met, this woman made the most pleasant impression on me. They say she was Berezovsky's right hand. Why did they break up? As for Lena, she then spent a lot of time at Logovaz. And one day Boris took her on a business trip to Italy. Apparently, that’s where everything started to spin. Although their marriage was still far away...”, he said in one of his interviews.

According to other sources, Boris Berezovsky met Elena Gorbunova at the Bolshoi Theater in 1995. Their relationship continued when the businessman was officially married to Galina Berezovskaya, but did not live with her.

In 1996, Elena Gorbunova gave birth to a daughter, Arina, and a year later, a son, Gleb.

At the trial of Abramovich versus Berezovsky in London in 2011, she took the side of her common-law husband. She accused his opponent of forging stamps in his passport.

The issue of stamps was quite important for the case, Forbes noted. One of the key points in the accusation was the fact that the issue of Berezovsky selling his stake in Sibneft was discussed at his meeting with Abramovich in the south of France in December 2000. It was there, according to the plaintiff, that the defendant forced him to agree to sell his stake at a deliberately low price under the threat of expropriation of the asset by the Kremlin. Abramovich insisted that neither he nor his procedural opponent crossed the French border within the time frame specified by Berezovsky. The stamps could prove this. At the same time, Gorbunova admitted that, as Berezovsky’s wife, she would benefit financially from his victory in court.

In 2012, Elena Gorbunova filed a lawsuit against Boris Berezovsky. She claims that he owes her £5 million - a share of the sold estate in Surrey (its price was £25 million). The woman claims that the money was used to cover debts. In addition, her former common-law husband, according to her information, was going to sell the property in the south of France, which was promised to her, in the same way. At Gorbunova's request, Boris Berezovsky's account in the amount of 200 million pounds was frozen.

Boris Berezovsky died on Saturday, March 23, in London. This was reported by his son-in-law Yegor Shuppe. The body of a 67-year-old businessman was found in his home in the bathroom. Berezovsky left Russia in 2000, and in 2003 received political asylum in the UK. In 2008, Forbes estimated his fortune at $1.3 billion. Berezovsky was married several times, he has six children and the same number of grandchildren.
