Biography

Elena Polyakova is a Russian theater and film actress, known for the films “Cop”, “Open up, police!”, “Dangerous Delusion” and others.

The future actress was born and spent her early childhood in Moscow. Elena grew up as an inquisitive child. The girl was fond of ballet, horses, and loved watching educational TV shows, including “Around the World.”

At secondary school, Polyakova easily coped with all subjects, and the schoolgirl was especially successful in learning foreign languages. The girl attended an educational institution with in-depth study of the English language, and at an older age, Elena’s parents sent her to study in the UK.

Upon returning home, the girl, already accustomed to living on her own, entered the State Academy of Management and moved out of her father and mother’s apartment. In order not to turn to her parents for financial help, Polyakova worked at night in a casino. Later, she began to collaborate with a video studio: she wrote summaries for films, translated film texts into Russian, and so on.

During her student years, Elena played in the university KVN team and theater studio. Having received a diploma in economics, the girl was confused: Polyakova understood that she did not want to devote her life to what she had studied for so many years. After weighing all the pros and cons, Elena decides to go to study again - at GITIS in the acting department.

To the amazement of Polyakova, who compared applicants to theater universities almost with the inhabitants of heaven, she was enrolled in the workshop of Gennady Khazanov on the first try. Polyakova's biography begins to develop in a new direction. At the university, Elena was considered a promising student; she was one of the female part of the student body and had the highest score in acting.

Actress Polya Polyakova: “How I married Alexander Khinshtein”

Polya Polyakova, Photo: personal archive Polya Polyakova graduated from VGIK, her master was Vitaly Solomin. The viewer knows the actress from such films and TV series as “Trap”, “Back to the USSR”, “Reflection”, “Closed School”, “Probationary Period”, “Greetings from Katyusha”, “Polar Flight”, “Cop in Law” " and etc.

— Polya, you played the main role in the film “Reflection.” What do you remember about those shoots? ?

— The role came to me unexpectedly. It so happened that the actress approved for this role broke her leg on the eve of the first day of filming. And Olga Pogodina, together with producer Alexei Pimanov, had to find the heroine overnight. The girl had to look like Olga Pogodina, who played the main role, because in the plot of the film the girls change their faces. And they should have the same figures and height.

Pogodina and Pimanov called their familiar directors to find a suitable candidate. And so we got through to Pavel Sanaev, with whom I starred in “Zero Kilometer”. Pavel recommended me, for which I am very grateful. At one in the morning, Olga Pogodina’s assistant called me with an offer to star in “Reflection.” The decision had to be made immediately, since if I agreed, a car would come for me in the morning and take me near Mozhaisk, to the real women’s colony where filming would take place. And I agreed! Naturally, there was no time to read the script. It is simply impossible to read 12 episodes a few hours before the start of filming.

And here Olga Pogodina helped me a lot, explaining certain scenes to me, like a blind kitten. She told me what was happening to the heroine, what her mood was at the moment, what she was feeling and what her reaction should be. So I met my heroine during the filming process.

— We talked to real prisoners in the Mozhaisk women’s colony?

- Certainly! Almost all prisoners participated in mass scenes. There were also individual episodic scenes with the participation of convicts. They had their own acting lines, so we can safely say that my partners were prisoners, and those convicted under serious charges - murder, robbery. Filming lasted in such conditions for several months.

- Did they really live in barracks??

- No, in a small hotel, not far from the colony. The filming was in tight mode. At 5 a.m., the film crew was allowed through the security checkpoint. They took away passports and mobile phones. The atmosphere in the colony is oppressive. Even the air is different - heavy, stale. The artists moved around the territory accompanied by a convoy for safety reasons. There is also a disease in the colony called tuberculosis. And we had dangerous stunt scenes. For example, the fight scene in the shower. Although the shower was scrubbed with bleach, it was still unsafe. And in order not to get infected, knowledgeable people advised us to drink 50 grams of whiskey every time after a shift. And we drank, destroyed bacteria... God forbid, of course, that we end up in such a colony outside the film process!

— In “Closed School” you played a history teacher. Or could they teach in a real modern school? ?

- Most likely no. A calling is needed here. Teachers, like doctors, either have it or not. A profession that requires enormous patience. With my emotional temperament, I don’t have such endurance. Although she taught acting. At school No. 1032 on Preobrazhenka, from which she herself graduated. I staged KVN for a prom with students in grades 10-11. And, I must say, I held the attention of the audience, no one made any noise, and everyone listened to me attentively.

— Which of the old school actors did you act with ? What did they impress you with, what did they teach you ?

— This fall, filming of the 12-episode historical film “Casanova in Russia” was completed. My partner in the film was Sergei Batalov. What a school! It was incredibly interesting to work with him and learn at the same time. For example, how to exist in the frame so that you don’t get cut out during editing. I won’t tell you all the nuances, but the main thing is that when shooting a medium or close-up shot of your partner, your eyes must be in the frame.

I was delighted by Batalov’s attitude towards the film. He brought a historical shirt from his theater for filming. You don’t expect this from young artists, so that they themselves bring some things for the film. My master at VGIK was Vitaly Methodievich Solomin. He instilled in us a responsible attitude towards the filming process. Therefore, it is very close to me when a picture becomes a common affair, when an actor, say, helps a costume designer and brings his shoes, hat, and accessories to the shoot. So that your image is correctly completed. After all, you, after all, have to be on the screen.

— What do you remember about Vitaly Solomin??

— Vitaly Methodievich was a very kind, caring person. Despite his wild busyness - the Maly Theater, tours, and parallel filming, he is one of the few masters who was present at VGIK almost every day. Solomin was very humane, and he always talked with his students. He was interested in everyone's life. Although the course was large - 30 people, he knew how to notice each of his students in some magical way.

Initially, Anatoly Romashin recruited us, but a month before September 1, he died tragically. And Solomin took us, already selected by Anatoly Vladimirovich. This is also an important detail for understanding Solomin’s character. I entered VGIK for commercial studies. But six months later, Vitaly Methodievich transferred me to the budget. The thing is that I missed classes. He saw it. He challenged me to talk about why I skip certain subjects. I answered him that I work - I dance at night, participate in clothing shows, and shoot for catalogues. I earn money for my studies. Solomin delved into such moments. In a fatherly way, he scolded me for absenteeism and told me not to miss my opportunities. And I roared in response. Even now my eyes are wet when I remember Vitaly Methodievich...

— Tell me, was the physically challenging role in the film “Greetings from Katyusha”, where you played a special group soldier?

- Very. This was the most difficult filming for me. Although I dreamed of a war film, I didn’t think it would be so tough. Firstly, my heroine speaks German. And I didn’t know a single word other than “Hyundai Hoch.” But I love overcoming roles. When you really need to work and prepare. I can't stand playing professional girls, mistresses and fools. I memorized the text in German like a tongue twister. I studied with a tutor so that my pronunciation was correct.

My colleagues and I also ran through the Belarusian forests almost without rest. According to the scenario, we landed by parachute, and our duffel bags were completely filled, in full equipment, with machine guns at the ready, in tarpaulin boots, we ran through the mud. My back, of course, was breaking under such a load. And what huge, angry mosquitoes there were that bit so painfully that they simply created blisters! However, this is one of my favorite works. It's nice to know that you completed all the tasks.

— You acted a lot in melodramas. Why do you think this genre is now so popular in Russia? ?

- Well, who mostly watches TV? Women, housewives. They say that soon the profession of “housewife” will be officially approved. And rightly so, because the workload is colossal, 24 hours – children, cooking, cleaning. And what else could make them happy? Series! Favorite melodrama with a dashingly twisted plot and a certainly happy ending.

— Polya, how did you meet your husband, Alexander Khinshtein, a famous journalist and State Duma deputy??

- This is a fabulous New Year's story. On New Year's Eve, December 30, 2013, my close friends, a married couple, invited me to their country house. We had a great time, barbecued, joked and laughed. Alexander arrived unexpectedly for me. Three hours later, we started celebrating.

He arrived with three bouquets of roses. One for the lady of the house, the second for the wife of friends and the third for me. My bouquet was white. These are given to the bride. But nothing foreshadowed further developments. Just a friend came. Everyone in the company communicates, everyone is in a good New Year's mood. I had just released the films “Reflection” and “Closed School”. There were offers to participate in new projects. No time for personal life, to be honest. During this period, I basked in male attention. The phone didn’t stop ringing, people were inviting me on dates. But I can’t say that I really needed it then. At the end of the evening, Alexander wrote down my phone number. And we all went home.

To my shame, I was very far from politics at that time and did not know that there was such a deputy. I knew more directors, actors, musicians. And the next day, December 31, I was at my parents’ house, where my brother and nieces and grandmother had arrived. In general, we are preparing to celebrate the New Year in a family atmosphere, preparing food for the table. Let's sit down. And somewhere at half past 12 the phone rings. It was Alexander. And he asks me: “What code?” I didn’t understand: “Code of what?” - “Your intercom. If you don’t tell me now, I’ll freeze.” I was somewhat dumbfounded, but I gave the code... This is how Alexander met my whole family. And then there was a beautiful courtship. His determination and perseverance won me over. A year later, we got married. Now we have a strong family and two wonderful sons - Artyom and Lev.
