Igor was born in Astrakhan in 1967. The singer is half Iranian by nationality. The paternal grandparents are from Iranian princely families. My grandfather kidnapped his beloved when she was just 14 years old and brought her to Bolshevik Russia. Father Mislyum Moisumovich married a Russian woman Antonina Nikolaevna.

In an interview, Igor said that they lived very poorly, sometimes there wasn’t even enough money for food. My father was responsible for supplying the auto repair shop, and my mother worked as a fireman at a bakery. The future singer “lived” in this factory from the cradle; a wooden box covered with straw served as a cradle.
During periods of lack of money, the mother even caught pigeons on the roof of the same bakery with homemade traps in order to somehow feed her two sons. Doctors diagnosed the teenage Nadzhiev with malnutrition.

It is curious that little Igor’s Iranian grandmother decided to baptize him. The woman herself, having survived all the hardships of life, became Orthodox and, according to the singer,
“I forgot forever about my noble origins.”
Igor remembers the baptism well; the sacrament took place in conditions of complete secrecy, because in Soviet times going to church was not encouraged.
The boy borrowed his musical talent from his mother. At family gatherings, Antonina Nikolaevna delighted guests and loved ones with romances - she had an amazingly beautiful voice. At four years old, the child, who could neither read nor write, was sent to a music school. Igor himself secretly dreamed of becoming a fireman in the future, like his mother, and then an astronaut.

Only in 8th grade did I decide. When asked by the teacher about his profession, he proudly stated that he was going to be a pop singer. By that time, the teenager was studying in three schools: secondary, art and music at the state conservatory of his hometown. There was enough acting talent for school plays and productions at the Palace of Pioneers. At the age of 14 he was a soloist in the ensemble of a knitting factory.
After school, the young man was going to enter drama school, but there he was turned away with the wording “lack of data for the stage.” The dean advised me to forget the way to the theater, explaining that there was no voice, no texture, no appearance. But it was then that the persistent Igor Nadzhiev realized that the stage was his life. The young man entered the conducting and choral department of the Astrakhan Music College.

Igor Krutoy was born in 1954 in the city of Gayvoron, Ukrainian SSR. Contrary to misconceptions, Krutoy is not a pseudonym. It just so happened that my real name coincided with fate.
