    Valery Leontyev and his wife

Valery Leontiev was born on March 19, 1949 in the village of Ust-Usa in the Komi Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, into a family of veterinarians and reindeer herders.

Father, Yakov Stepanovich Leontyev (? - 1979), came from the Pomors of the Arkhangelsk region, mother Ekaterina Ivanovna Leontyeva (nee Klyuts) (1906-1996) was born in Ukraine [9].

He spent his childhood in the village of Verkhnie Matigory, Kholmogory district, Arkhangelsk region[10].

In 1961, the family moved to the city of Yuryevets (Ivanovo region) on the Volga, where Leontyev graduated from secondary school No. 1 named after A. S. Pushkin MBU Yuryevets in 1966. An attempt to enter the Far Eastern University (Valery dreamed of becoming an oceanologist) was not made due to lack of funds. Then, in 1966, he submitted documents to GITIS, but at the last moment he changed his mind and took them back.

Returning to Yuryevets, in search of work, Valery managed to try many professions - an auxiliary worker at a brick factory, an operator at a dairy factory, a ribbon operator at a flax spinning factory, a postman, an electrician, a tailor[11].

Then the singer moved to Vorkuta, where he entered a branch of the Leningrad Mining Institute and worked as a laboratory assistant at the Research Institute of Foundations and Underground Structures.

    Career

On April 9, 1972, the first solo concert of Valery Leontiev took place at the Palace of Culture of Miners and Builders of Vorkuta. In the same year, he won the regional competition “Song-72” in Syktyvkar (with the song “Carnival in the North”). The prize for winning the competition was training at the “Creative Workshop of Pop Art of Georgy Vinogradov” in Moscow. However, the singer did not complete his studies and in 1973 returned to Syktyvkar, where he worked as a soloist in the local philharmonic and became the lead singer of the group “Dreamers”, which was soon renamed “Echo”. Valery still works with this team to this day.

In 1978 he graduated from the correspondence department of the Leningrad Institute of Culture[12]. In 1979, Valery Leontyev moved to the Gorky Philharmonic on the condition that the latter would send him to the All-Union competition in Yalta. For his performance of the 12-minute ballad “In Memory of the Guitarist” by David Tukhmanov with lyrics by Robert Rozhdestvensky, Leontyev received first prize in a competition broadcast throughout the country. Then he continued his collaboration with Tukhmanov: “The Beloved Side” to the verses of Igor Shaferan, “There in September” to the verses of Leonid Derbenev (for the first time on television in the “Music Kiosk” program), etc. Tukhmanov’s song “Dancing Hour in the Sun” brought Leontyev the first prize at the Golden Orpheus festival (Bulgaria, 1980)[12].

From July 28, 1983 to 1995, he worked at the Voroshilovgrad (now Lugansk) Philharmonic as a soloist-vocalist of the pop genre, artistic director of the vocal-instrumental ensemble “Echo”. It was during this period that he was awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize (1985), and in 1987 Valery Leontyev was awarded the title of Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR.

In the 80s, a period of work with Raymond Pauls began, the most active in 1984-1986 (“Green Light”, “Inactivity”, “Years of Wandering”, “For, etc.), participation in Pauls’ program “Holy Love for Music” at the State Central Concert Hall "Russia". The song “Farewell to Mom” marked the beginning of a collaboration with Laura Quint. New song programs were prepared annually, the premieres of which took place in Leningrad at the Oktyabrsky concert hall, and from the mid-80s. in Moscow at the State Central Concert Hall “Russia”: “I’m just a singer” (1982), “Running through life” (1984), “Alone with everyone” (1985), “Star story” (1986), “Confession” (1987), “It seems to me that I have not yet lived” (1990), etc. A long-standing dream of a theater led Leontyev to work on a rock opera. Thanks to his passion and energy, the State Central Concert Hall “Russia” hosted the premiere of the opera “Giordano” (1988, music by Quint, art. V. Kostrova, director V. Druzhinin), in which Leontyev played three diverse roles: Giordano, Jester, Satan[ 12].

Young Valery Leontyev chose the image of a “shining ray” for himself. He wore white, Saturday Night Fever-style skinny suits, skin-tight jumpsuits, silver skinnies, flowy blouses and heels. For his performance at “Song of the Year-91” he wore burgundy metallic leggings and a large mesh T-shirt. Later wore vinyl shorts and leather jockstraps.[13]

During perestroika in 1987, the USSR Ministry of Education considered the participation of the Soviet Union in the prestigious European song contest Eurovision. USSR Minister of Education Georgy Veselov proposed sending Valery Leontyev. However, the idea of Georgy Veselov was not supported by the CPSU Central Committee and Gorbachev. Even in the Ministry of Education, the majority was of the opinion that the USSR was not yet ready for such radical steps[14].

In 1991, he received The World Music Awards as the best performer, leader in sales of sound carriers in the USSR[15].

In 1997, with composer Yu. Chernavsky, he recorded the albums “On the Road to Hollywood” and “Santa Barbara” in the USA[12]. At the same time, the video “On the Road to Hollywood” was shot in Hollywood, completely made by Americans.

From 1992 to 1998 he worked with Alla Dukhova’s ballet “Todes”. Since 1998 she has been working with her ballet “Dangerous Liaisons”.

On March 28, 1998, in the very center of Moscow, not far from the Kremlin, a ceremony was held to lay the name star of Valery Leontyev on the “Square of Stars”. In 2009, Leontyev’s personal star appeared on the “Walk of Stars” of the Slavic Bazaar in Vitebsk.

In 1999, dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the artist, the show “Photographer of Dreams” (dir. Gornizov, artist Grimm) was released, in which laser effects, a screen, and tricks with the “flying away” artist were widely used. The project belonged to composer Vladimir Evzerov, who proposed songs based on poems by A. Blok, A. Akhmatova, M. Tsvetaeva, R. Burns[12].

    Personal life

    • Valery Leontyev (unofficially since 1972, and officially from 1998 to the present day) is married to Lyudmila Yakovlevna Isakovich (born 1953), former leader of the Echo ensemble from Syktyvkar. Lyudmila has lived in Miami since 1992, and is a dog groomer[16].

Photo by Valery Leontyev before and after plastic surgery

It's no secret that many stars resort to surgical methods to change their appearance in order to stay young longer. On the Internet, you can see Photos of Valery Leontyev before and after plastic surgery, however, Valery himself confirms the veracity of most of them.

The singer's face has already undergone countless lifts, as well as rhinoplasty, lip augmentation, and changes in eye shape. Periodically, the singer injects himself with Botox for wrinkles. As you can see, the artist does a lot of operations, and all because his main advantage is his talent and appearance; every artist must look attractive in order to gather crowds of fans.
