He decided to start with the 4th season of the Ukrainian show “Make the Comedian Laugh” - a project of Studio Kvartal-95. The founder of the show, Vladimir Zelensky, was among the strict judges whom the participants had to cheer up. The program was hosted by the well-known Dmitry Shepelev.

At 57 seconds of Sergei’s speech, Zelensky finally grinned, and the young comedian earned 1,000 hryvnia. Detkov could have continued his performance and received even more money, but he simply ran out of jokes. After a not entirely successful performance, Sergei decided to try his hand at a different direction of humor - stand-up. “When I started doing this, I specifically didn’t watch any Stand Up, so as not to accidentally take away someone’s style. I tried to find something of my own,” recalls the comedian.

For three years, Detkov honed his skills in clubs in his native Zaporozhye, Odessa and Kyiv. By 2020, he was ready to present his work to the general public and again went to the “Make the Comedian Laugh” show. The judges of the competition were the same Vladimir Zelensky and Evgeniy Koshevoy, but the host changed: now actor Viktor Vasiliev ruled the roost.

This time, the judges and spectators turned out to be more favorable to the comedian’s work, and Sergei himself prepared more thoroughly. Zelensky and Koshevoy could hardly contain their laughter throughout the entire performance, but at the phrases “I hate round dances!” and “In the rocking chair I can scare people...” could not stop laughing.

At the last second of the final round, the judges laughed again, and Detkov automatically received 50 thousand hryvnia. The return to the show turned out to be triumphant. “A good guy,” concluded a satisfied Zelensky.

That same year, Detkov decided to conquer the Russian public. He took part in the Stand Up Festival 2016, the largest comedy festival in the country. Successful performances allowed him to get into the second season of the Open Microphone show. Following the results of the qualifying stages, Detkov became part of Slava Komissarenko’s team.
