Just recently, the entire public was outraged by the fraud taking place in the country's military department. The Oboronservis case was covered on almost every news channel on Russian television. His defendant, Evgenia Vasilyeva, was subjected to severe criticism and censure. The people demanded that the high-ranking official receive the deserved punishment for the atrocities committed.
However, fate turned out to be favorable to her. Having received a mild sentence (house arrest), she could pursue her favorite hobbies: painting and music. For many, Evgenia Vasilyeva is an official who got away with almost everything. Is this really so, and how did she manage to get into the highest echelons of power? Vasilyeva Evgenia Nikolaevna is a native of the city on the Neva. She was born on February 20, 1979. The future official was the only child in the family, so her parents surrounded her with care and did not deny her anything.
Evgenia Vasilyeva’s father is a well-known entrepreneur in certain circles. He was a wealthy man, so he could spoil his only daughter.
At the same time, as a child, Evgenia did not stand out from her peers in any way. She, like other kids, attended school, spent time with friends, and went to various clubs. And at home, Evgenia Vasilyeva’s relatives cared for and cherished their daughter, so there were practically no prohibitions for her.
Start of work
Having become a certified lawyer, Evgenia Vasilyeva found a job in one of the local real estate companies. After some time, she began working as a lawyer in various commercial structures.
In 2006, the girl changed places, moving from St. Petersburg to Moscow. In the capital, she gets a job in a construction and investment company, but after working there for several months, she quits.
A year later, Evgenia Nikolaevna works in St. Petersburg companies, heading a branch of the construction structure SU-155, and then becoming at the helm of the legal entity Baltikstroy LLC.
Shortly before these appointments, a graduate of St. Petersburg State University in Cannes, at an international real estate exhibition, made an acquaintance with a major Russian official, Vladimir Resin, thanks to whose patronage she would subsequently find herself in the highest structures of government.

While under investigation, Evgenia demonstrated her creative abilities as a poet, artist and musician. She developed her own collection of jewelry, opened a jewelry salon in the capital and.
She released a poetic collection of love lyrics, then, setting the poems to music, she created several videos, among which “Slippers”, written in the style of Russian pop music, stand out.
Vasilyeva became interested in painting and painted several portraits of famous people. In April last year, her personal exhibition “Flowers from Captivity” was held at the Moscow gallery “Expo-88”. On January 27, 2020, an exhibition of her graphic works entitled “Eve in Wonderland” opened in Moscow.
Higher echelons of power
Soon Vasilyeva Evgenia becomes an adviser to Resin, who at that time served as the first deputy mayor of the capital. Evgeniya started flirting with readers of her page last week. First, she published a photo of herself reclining in a lace minidress on a snow-white sofa covered with bear skin. The photo of her magnificent charms literally blew up the Internet, but visitors to Vasilyeva’s page quickly realized that the fourth size bust captured in the photo did not belong to Evgenia, but to another woman. “We were deceived!” - concluded the followers. And they demanded that the Oboronservis prisoner show them real nudity.

Yesterday, Evgenia finally gave in to the persuasion of her fans and gave up. To begin with, I unexpectedly posted a photo with bare shoulders. Today in the Presnensky Court of Moscow, hearings continued in the Oboronservis case, in which the former head of the department of property relations of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation Evgenia Vasilyeva is the main defendant. Let us remind you that on October 4, Vasilyeva and several other defendants in the case were finally charged. Vasilyeva is accused of 12 counts of crimes. The defendant is currently under house arrest. The former official has a lot of free time, and she devotes it to creativity: she paints pictures, writes poetry, and practices vocals. One of Vasilyeva’s latest works, a photo of which she recently shared on Twitter, is a portrait of her former boss, ex-Minister of Defense Anatoly Serdyukov, who is involved with her in the Oboronservis case. The demonstration took place on the defendant’s Twitter microblog. “Me and Serdyukov!!!,” she signed a joint photo with Vasilyev’s painting (read more).
One of Vasilyeva’s latest works, a photo of which she recently shared on Twitter, is a portrait of her former boss, ex-Minister of Defense Anatoly Serdyukov.
The ex-official also became famous for her exorbitant love of luxury: during a search in Vasilyeva’s apartment, a total of 51 thousand precious stones worth 130 million rubles and another approximately 19 kilograms of gold were found. The cheapest jewelry, according to experts, will cost about 350 thousand rubles. In addition, the main defendant in the Oboronservis criminal cases is languishing in an apartment with a total area of 192 square meters. At the same time, Evgenia Vasilyeva does not admit her guilt and insists that all transactions for the purchase and sale of Defense Ministry property took place on the orders of Serdyukov.

Criminal case
In the fall of 2012, the media published shocking information that as a result of a search in an elite apartment owned by Vasilyeva, documents were found on fraud with the assets of the Moscow Region, as well as property worth millions of rubles: jewelry (weighing 19 kg and worth 130 million rubles), paintings, antiques and three million rubles. All this was confiscated by the police.
When asked where such wealth came from, the head of the Department of Property Relations of the RF Ministry of Defense replied that her father gave her the jewelry. Naturally, the search was carried out for a reason. Evgenia Nikolaevna and several other high-ranking employees of the military department were suspected of committing serious fraudulent acts and theft of property during their leadership activities at Oboronservis. Naturally, investigators opened a criminal case on this fact, and the suspect was dismissed from a high post. Initially, the amount of damage exceeded 350 million rubles.
Let us recall that the Oboronservis holding, which included a number of strategic companies, was created in 2008 to relieve military personnel of functions unusual for them. When investigators brought charges against Evgenia Nikolaevna, she stated that she was not involved in the thefts and did not intend to cooperate with the investigation.
In the fall of 2012, the former head of the property relations department of the Moscow Region underwent surgery and spent some time in hospital treatment.
History of the Vasilyeva case
In 2006, the girl moved to the capital, where she worked for 5 months as a lawyer in one of the largest construction companies. Successfully moving up the career ladder, in 2009 Evgenia became an adviser to Alexander Beglov, deputy head of the presidential administration of the Russian Federation. Starting next year, she went to work at the Ministry of Defense as an adviser - chief of staff to the Minister of Defense Anatoly Serdyukov, and in 2011 - to the position of head of the Department of Property Relations, remaining in this position until the summer of 2012. Serdyukov was her housemate, and Vasilyeva later confirmed her close relationship with him.
On the morning of October 25, 2012, in the case of Oboronservis, whose employees are suspected of fraud in the sale of military assets, Vasilyeva’s place of residence was searched by employees of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation. When representatives of the investigative body arrived, Defense Minister Serdyukov was also in the apartment. During the inspection of Evgenia’s four-room home, documents of interest for solving the case were seized, about three and a half million rubles, antiques of significant value, collections of paintings, watches of famous brands and one and a half thousand jewelry with a total value of about 130 million rubles. Vasilyeva herself was relieved from her position in the Ministry of Defense for the duration of the investigation.

On November 23, 2014, the Khamovnichesky Court of Moscow placed Evgenia under house arrest. She was accused of selling liquid Oboronservis assets at reduced prices, resulting in damage to the state amounting to more than 3 billion rubles.
The defendant never admitted her guilt. She was accused of 12 counts - under articles of fraud on an especially large scale, laundering of funds acquired by criminal means, abuse of power and exceeding it. Based on the totality of charges, Evgenia faced up to 12 years in prison.
On May 8 this year, the Presnensky Court of Moscow found ex-official of the Ministry of Defense Vasilyeva guilty of eight of 12 counts of crimes in the Oboronservis case. The judge sentenced her to five years in prison and ordered her to be remanded in court. By that time, the convict had already served almost half of her sentence, being under house arrest in her Moscow apartment in Molochny Lane.

On August 17, Vasilyeva filed a petition for parole. In the petition, the defense of the ex-official referred to several circumstances: the convicted person paid off all the damage to the victim companies and has positive characteristics from the Federal Penitentiary Service.
The essence of the accusation
Law enforcement agencies suspected that Evgenia Vasilyeva, whose biography certainly contains dark spots, was selling real estate that was on the balance sheet of the military department. Their cost was unreasonably low. It is noteworthy that the buyers for some of the above property were identified in advance from among their own people. One of the socially controversial transactions that the official was accused of committing was the implementation of the State Design Institute, which had strategic status.
According to estimates by employees of the State Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation, the total damage caused by Vasilyeva (Oboronservis) and her accomplices is estimated at 3 billion rubles, the basis of which was 8 large real estate properties in Moscow.
House arrest
As a result, the ex-official was formally charged with fraud and real estate fraud.
Evgenia Nikolaevna asked to be released on bail, offering 15 million rubles, but the court considered this inappropriate, choosing house arrest as a preventive measure. A month later, Vasilyeva (Oboronservis) again appealed to representatives of the Russian Themis so that she would be allowed to live together with her former boss Anatoly Serdyukov, with whom the official had developed a close relationship. However, the judge rejected this request too, but allowed him to see the former minister and relatives. Vasilyeva could also use the Internet.
In the spring of 2013, detectives seized three apartments and the house of the accused, which were located in Moscow and St. Petersburg. To control where Evgenia Vasilyeva moved, the police put an electronic bracelet on her right leg, and special equipment was installed in the rooms where she lives.
Soon the judge extended the period of stay under house arrest until May 27, 2013. In the fall of 2013, detectives issued a resolution documenting 12 episodes of fraud allegedly committed by a military department official.
She was also charged with: money laundering, abuse of power, theft of budget money on an especially large scale. After such acts, it would be absurd to count on the release of Evgenia Vasilyeva. Investigators also seized the defendant’s property in the amount of $450 thousand, which included: bank deposits, 6 real estate properties and jewelry.

Several years ago, everyone was talking about Evgenia Vasilyeva: in connection with a gigantic corruption scandal in the Ministry of Defense, a close friend of Minister Anatoly Serdyukov found herself in the spotlight. In the wake of the hype, the blonde millionaire decided to become even more famous: under house arrest, she filmed videos, wrote poetry and organized exhibitions of her paintings. We recall the history of the shocking person and find out what she is doing now.
Difficult family
40-year-old Evgenia Vasilyeva is the daughter of St. Petersburg businessman Nikolai Vasiliev, who made his fortune in the production and sale of cables and plastic pipes. The entrepreneur, by his own admission, is the owner of a multi-million dollar fortune. So Evgenia grew up in prosperity and received a good education: she graduated with honors from the Law Faculty of St. Petersburg State University.
A few years after receiving her diploma, having worked as a realtor in her hometown, the girl went to Moscow and began to rapidly conquer career heights. At first she worked in a construction company, then at an international real estate exhibition in Cannes she met the first deputy mayor of Moscow, Vladimir Resin, and soon became his adviser. At the same time, she headed two construction companies in St. Petersburg at once. Vasilyeva’s biography on the Internet reports that Resin noticed the girl and began promoting her because she was a “capable employee” and “her head worked like a computer.”
Two years later, Vasilyeva was already an adviser to the deputy head of the presidential administration of the Russian Federation, from where she went to the Ministry of Defense. There, Evgenia headed the property relations department until 2012.
In general, the rise up the career ladder was rapid, which gave rise to a variety of rumors. One of the popular ones: Vasilyeva is allegedly a relative of Svetlana Medvedeva (or rather, the cousin of the former first lady). Media workers speculated that such a relationship could explain how the young girl managed to rise to such high positions so quickly. In addition, in 2012, Dmitry Medvedev awarded the girl the Order of Honor. The rumors were never confirmed, so one can only guess whether there is any truth to them.
Defendant
The name of Evgenia Vasilyeva became well known in 2012 in connection with the so-called Oboronservis case. She was arrested on charges of fraud: according to investigators, military property was sold at reduced prices. The total damage allegedly exceeded 3 billion rubles.
During the search, in addition to cash, Vasilyeva was found, as the press reports, “more than one and a half thousand pieces of jewelry.” According to media reports, 51 thousand precious stones and 19 kilograms of gold. As well as antiques and dozens of paintings, including works by Vasnetsov, Shishkin, Aivazovsky.
In the fall of the same year, Evgenia was placed under house arrest, but its conditions could not be called particularly strict: she was allowed to use the Internet and see her loved ones.
Vasilyeva’s lover was forced to leave his high post, while he escaped punishment in the case of embezzlement in the military department. In 2013, Serdyukov was amnestied in connection with the 20th anniversary of the Constitution under the article “negligence” charged to him. His girlfriend spent two and a half years under house arrest, and in 2020 she was sentenced to 5 years in prison. Taking into account the time already spent under arrest, she had to spend two and a half years in places not so distant. In fact, Vasilyeva was not deprived of her freedom for long: according to the press, she spent several weeks in a pre-trial detention center, from where she was transferred to a colony in the Vladimir region, and she was released on parole just a month later.
According to the official version, during her stay in the colony, Vasilyeva was assigned to work as a cleaner at a school during the summer holidays. She herself, however, said that her work in the colony was “taking care of flowers,” and she liked it.
It must be said that while in custody, Evgenia was not at all deprived of the benefits of civilization to which she was accustomed: they write that in the pre-trial detention center she used the services of a hairdresser and ordered lunches for herself via the Internet. And at court hearings she didn’t really look like an ordinary accused: she talked on the phone, drew something, ate candy, even sat down without the judge’s permission.
As far as journalists know, all the seized property was returned to the former prisoner when she was released.
Novel
Evgenia’s relationship with Anatoly Serdyukov supposedly began when the girl came to work at the Ministry of Defense, which he headed. It is not known exactly when and where they met; some sources say that they knew each other since law school.
At the time the affair began, the minister was married. The new passion turned out to be 15 years younger than the politician. As a result, he divorced his wife Yulia Zubkova, with whom he spent ten years. Yulia, by the way, is the daughter of another famous politician, Viktor Zubkov. Her daughter Natalya is growing up with Serdyukov. Marriage to Zubkova was the second in a row for Anatoly Serdyukov.

But Vasilyeva had never been married at the time of the start of her relationship with the Minister of Defense. The girl struck Serdyukov, perhaps not only with her striking appearance, but also with her strong character: according to the couple’s friends, Anatoly is a tough person, but Evgenia found an approach to him.
According to the author of the book entitled “Serdyukov and His Women’s Battalion” Nikolai Tarakanov, Anatoly’s legal wife filed for divorce immediately after the scandal with fraud in Oboronservis began, when information about the affair between Serdyukov and Vasilyeva was revealed. As Tarakanov says, Evgenia was not the only passion of the minister, who was often carried away by employees of his department.
Boring house arrest
Under house arrest in her elite apartment in the very center of Moscow, Evgenia was not bored. In general, the only reminder of her arrest status was the electronic bracelet that she had to wear on her leg.
The ex-official, who at that time became almost the main newsmaker in the country, gave interviews with pleasure. The first journalist to visit her was Ksenia Sobchak, who was filming an interview for the Dozhd TV channel. Vasilyeva, in a conversation with her, denied her guilt and said that she “took the blow upon herself,” deflecting the threat from Serdyukov.
The media quoted Vasilyeva as saying that “people should only be in prison for violent crimes, since the article “Fraud” can be applied to almost anyone.” Evgenia answered questions about her relationship with Serdyukov evasively - she said that she did not want to comment on her personal life.
Regarding the apartment in which the interview took place, Vasilyeva assured: the apartments were purchased with the help of her father, and this was before her work in the military department. As Evgenia noted, there were no 13 rooms that everyone was talking about in the apartment - only 4 rooms. According to her, the paintings seized from her during the search were an inheritance from her great-grandfather, and the bundles of money that were shown on TV were simply built into the plot. Vasilyeva also lamented that the media portrays her as “a tasteless woman who writes mediocre poems.”

While under arrest in her apartment, Vasilyeva actually regularly demonstrated her creations to the public. Firstly, the person involved in the Oboronservis case writes poetry. Here is an excerpt from one of her poems:

As it turned out, Evgenia discovered her poetic gift even before her arrest. The press found a collection of her poems published before the big events, which was published in a small edition - only 500 copies.
Paintings
Also, during house arrest, Vasilyeva began taking painting lessons and painting under the pseudonym Eva. The subjects vary - from bees and mice to portraits of famous people - there is Lenin, and Elizabeth II, and even Jesus Christ. Not everyone liked Vasilyeva’s creations; some commentators wrote about “childish daubing,” but there were also those who sincerely admired the prisoner’s works and, without any jokes, called them masterpieces.
It got to the point that in the spring of 2014, Vasilyeva’s personal exhibition entitled “Flowers from Captivity” was held in one of the Moscow galleries.
Having learned that Evgenia was painting, many people began to ask us to show them, so we decided to find a gallery and exhibit the paintings there,

The exhibition featured almost two dozen paintings created by the suspected fraudster during her six-month stay at home. They saw a hidden meaning in Evgenia’s works; in many of her paintings, art connoisseurs discerned her reflection on the theme of “life in lockdown.”

As Vasilyeva’s lawyer said, his ward began painting after experiencing stress: according to him, she lost her child during the investigation.

In 2014, Evgenia unexpectedly made an attempt to become a pop star, and the video for her song “Slippers” was shot not by anyone but Irina Mironova, one of the most famous music video directors in the country.

And in this creation of the newly-minted celebrity there was also a hidden meaning. As the media explained, the song was based on an episode of a search at Vasilyeva’s place, during which large slippers were discovered.

The public's opinions about the video were divided, some appreciated the humor of the person involved in the high-profile case, others suggested that Vasilyeva should be imprisoned or at least banned from using the Internet, and others quite seriously saw in the shocking blonde a new sex symbol and a possible pop star.
Happily ever after
Last summer, information appeared that the ex-official of the Ministry of Defense and the former minister had become husband and wife. Andrey Malakhov wrote about the wedding of Vasilyeva and Serdyukov in his column. The TV presenter also said that during an interview with Vasilyeva, when she was still under house arrest, he forgot his tie in her apartment:

The “newlyweds” themselves refused to comment on these conversations. Serdyukov only said that the rumors should remain on the conscience of those “who invent all this.”
At the same time, journalists found eyewitnesses who confirmed the fact of the marriage. Thus, an anonymous source who commented to Komsomolskaya Pravda said:
We celebrated in a Moscow restaurant, rented for the occasion. There were no extra people at the wedding. Narrow circle. Naturally, all the guests gave gifts. As a joke, they also gave me red slippers. The bride and groom looked happy. They danced a slow dance, a waltz, as expected... Vasilyeva dedicated a new poem to her husband, this time joyful, and not sad, as before. In general, everyone forgave each other. We immediately went on a honeymoon to France.
Where is she now
As far as journalists know, the couple still lives in the same apartment on Molochny Lane where Evgenia served her house arrest. Serdyukov is the chairman of the HOA of an elite house, Vasilyeva is listed as its secretary.
At the beginning of this year, the tabloids wrote that the former head of the Ministry of Defense and his companion were actively learning English with the help of tutors. The couple is probably planning to emigrate, Russian media concluded. The Mash Telegram channel cited the words of its source, who said that Serdyukov and Vasilyeva are really going to change their place of residence, but “have not yet decided on the country.”
According to other sources, Evgenia is now busy with her education in the field of art: the former official is studying at the master's program at the British college OCA (Open College of the Arts).
