Marina Devyatova: “Our daughter is growing up to be a real artist”

Continue the dynasty

When the children grew a little older, the parents separated. For some time, Vladimir Devyatov disappeared from the girls’ lives. One day she will tell you that she met him again when she turned 11. But then dad not only continued to raise children from his first marriage, but also helped decide on the future. For Marina, absorbed in music since childhood, it turned out to be a foregone conclusion.

The children's performances were followed by the prestigious music school named after. Dmitry Shostakovich, and then dad decided to show the child the world of professional music from the inside and took her with him on a big tour. It was assumed that Marina would decide there whether she wanted to continue the dynasty.

Biography of Marina Devyatova

Marina Devyatova was born in Moscow on December 13, 1983. From early childhood, a love for good music was instilled in her by her father, People's Artist of Russia Vladimir Devyatov. Marina grew up not only on folk songs, but also on the classics, as well as on bands such as The Beatles and Deep Purple. Already at the age of three, the girl sang well and felt rhythm, so the decision to send her daughter to a music school in the family was made unanimously. And then - the Schnittke Music School (1999–2003), the Gnessin Academy (2003–2008), performances at vocal competitions and festivals, including the Slavic Bazaar, and, finally, a television project that made her a star. In 2006, Marina went to the casting of “People’s Artist 3” to prove that the Russian song was interesting to the public and had the right to be performed on air. On the television project, the young singer reached the final, losing just a little to the winner Amarkhuu Borkhuu, and after the end of the show she signed a contract with producer Evgeniy Fridland. Even during her studies, Marina and her friends went on student expeditions to collect Russian folk songs from villages and villages. Now the singer continues to travel around the cities of Russia, where she not only gives concerts, but also studies local traditions, because she is interested in everything related to folk art. Marina often represents Russia in countries near and far: repeated performances at the German-Russian Festival in Berlin, trips with concerts to Italy, Estonia, the USA, China, Laos, Vietnam - these are not all the achievements of the young singer. And at the Slavic Bazaar festival in Vitebsk, the artist has long become a regular guest: Devyatova has been coming there every time since 2002. In 2007, as part of the Russian delegation, Marina was present at the selection of the capital of the Winter Olympic Games in Guatemala, where she communicated with representatives of the IOC and Vladimir Putin. In 2009, the production center of Evgeniy Fridlyand took a risky step - Marina Devyatova’s first solo concert took place at the Moscow Variety Theater. The risk paid off; for such a young artist, a sold-out concert was a bid for success. Some time later, the singer presented the Russian song to Queen Elizabeth II of Great Britain and the entire royal family at a social reception in London, organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation together with the Russian Orthodox Church. During her artistic career, the singer managed to perform a duet not only with her father, Vladimir Devyatov, but also with such stars as Nikolai Baskov, Pyotr Dranga and the Bayan-Mix duet, and also repeatedly appeared on the same stage with her beloved choir. Pyatnitsky. Lyudmila Zykina was going to do a joint number with her, but the duet was never destined to take place due to the sudden death of the great Russian singer. In addition, Marina showed talent as a presenter - with Yuri Stoyanov and Anastasia Chernobrovina, she conducted several programs of the supershow “The Best Years of Our Lives” on the Rossiya TV channel, and on the Kultura TV channel she is now working on a series of programs about folk crafts and traditions. Together with Sergei Zhigunov and Alexander Oleshko, Marina Devyatova held the festival of Slavic culture “Slavyansk-2011”, and a little earlier - the opening of the “Slavic Bazaar in Vitebsk 2011”. The singer is truly in love with folklore, and this cannot be ignored when she goes on stage. Few young performers sing people’s favorite songs with such enthusiasm, with such a twinkle in their eyes, for which Devyatova earned the sympathy of the audience even at the time when she participated in the popular TV show “People’s Artist - 3”. “The Russian song has always been, is and will be,” says Marina. “As long as there is a Russian person, the Russian song will live - it is this feeling that I want to convey to the public through my work.” In her free time from concerts, Marina is actively involved in fitness, which explains her excellent physical shape. She leads a healthy lifestyle, is a convinced vegetarian, loves and knows how to cook healthy dishes. “The profession of an artist obliges you to always look good,” the singer is sure. — The public doesn’t want to see tired faces and sad eyes. The audience needs a holiday, and the artist is obliged to give him this holiday.” The secret of success for Marina is to do what she loves and be moderately ambitious: “What secrets could there be? You need to be honest, decent, work hard and have a goal. We need to believe in God, because he has his own plans for us. Only with him can you find refuge when you feel bad and feel like you can’t cope.” In the frantic rhythm of megacities, Marina believes, it is important to be able to stop to think about spirituality and eternal values. Such a “stop” will be a large-scale musical project, which the singer thought about several months ago together with her producer Evgeny Fridlyand. “I think for the audience it will be a real journey back into centuries. We will talk about the main pagan and Christian traditions, we will try to convey the atmosphere of Orthodox holidays,” Marina reveals the essence of the upcoming project. One of Marina’s favorite pastimes is driving. She spends a lot of time behind the wheel, preferring to go to concerts and filming by car. The artist has about eight years of driving experience.

National artist

Returning from the tour, the girl realized that she would connect her life with folk music, and continued her studies in this direction. At music college, Marina joined the Indrik-Beast group, which was engaged in modernizing Russian folk and giving it a fashionable sound. She remembers those years as a period of trial and experimentation.

But television brought real fame to the girl. Having learned about the recruitment for the show “People’s Artist - 3”, Marina, without hesitation, went to audition. The show gave her vast experience working on the modern stage and, of course, a huge number of fans.

Studies

At first, the girl herself didn’t show much interest in learning music; at one point she even called the piano plywood and threatened to break it into firewood. But after many years, she is grateful to her mother that she still insisted on her daughter taking music classes.

After graduating from school in 1999 and receiving the specialty of academic conductor, Marina became a student at the Schnittke College of Music. Her further training took place at the department of folk solo singing.

Marina appeared on the real stage for the first time when she was 14 years old. Her father gave a performance in the huge Rossiya concert hall. Together with her dad, the girl sang the song “River-River”. This small appearance of hers on stage later played a fateful role in Devyatova’s life. Almost two thousand spectators looked at the girl from the audience; she literally charged them with energy. It was at that moment that Marina realized that she wanted to connect her life only with the stage.

In 2001, the All-Russian competition of folk song performers was held in Voronezh, Marina Devyatova became its laureate.

Tragic love

Fans noticed that one day Marina’s songs became deeper, and the melancholy in the saddest of them became more heartfelt, and suggested that there was unrequited love in the girl’s life. But it turned out that the feeling was mutual, only the story ended tragically.

This was the first serious relationship. The man was 12 years older than Marina, far from show business, a professional doctor, a respected specialist.

The artist admits that she was passionately in love, but one day the singer had to hear terrible news: her beloved was diagnosed with oncology. Doctors don't like to be treated. So his story with Marina ended with his departure. The girl took the tragedy seriously.

Looking for a real man

Marina met her first love at a young age. She fell in love with a man who was much older than her. He worked as a doctor and saved lives. Their feelings were mutual and, perhaps, everything would have ended in a wedding if not for a fatal illness. Marina's lover was diagnosed with cancer.

The girl hoped to the last for the success of the treatment, but her loved one could not be saved. He died, and Marina took this loss very hard. For several years, her only solace was music.

next relationship was with a young aspiring singer Nikolai Demidov . At first, everything was perfect in the personal lives of the young people. But, as it turned out later, everyone wanted their own from this relationship. Marina dreamed of creating a strong family. She wanted her future husband to become her support and support. Nikolai dreamed of popularity. For him, an affair with Marina was a chance to be noticed.

Naturally, such a relationship could not last long. The girl felt that their relationship lacked sincerity. After talking with Nikolai, she understood everything and decided not to continue them.

After breaking up with Marina, Nikolai began to tell everyone how difficult it was for him. He believed that the girl was overly protective of him and put pressure on him. He wanted to realize himself and then think about his family, but Marina did not want to wait. The girl also did not remain in debt. She simply said that Nikolai was still a child and not ready for serious actions. A little later, passions subsided and everyone went their own way.

The path to love

But everything comes to an end someday. A few years later, the young singer Nikolai Demidov began to court the already successful singer. They moved in together, and Marina already admitted in an interview that she would like to hear the proposal. But the marriage never happened. The couple parted badly: Demidov provoked a real scandal by telling the media in an interview that Marina was too demanding, it didn’t suit him, and besides, she insisted on getting married, but he wasn’t ready...

After a strange relationship, the girl could not enter into a new one for a long time. A good friend and former young man came to the rescue - co-owner of an advertising agency Alexey Pigurenko, with whom Marina already had an affair. But the relationship then broke down due to difficult life.

Recognition, love and glory

In addition to her country, Marina has become a sought-after performer abroad. With the show ballet "YAR-Dance", which works on stage during her performances, Devyatova visited Estonia and Bulgaria, France and Latvia, South Korea and Laos, Vietnam and Mongolia, Italy and China, the USA, and several times went to German-Russian festival in Berlin. The newspaper “Evening Moscow” even called Marina “the ambassador of Russian culture.”

  • Pyatnitsky Choir;

2009In the spring, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Russian Orthodox Church in London organized a social reception for the royal family, where Marina performed Russian songs.

During the ceremony for choosing the capital of the Olympic Games, Marina Devyatova was lucky enough to talk with Russian President Vladimir Putin. For herself, she called him X-ray man, Vladimir Vladimirovich had a very difficult and piercing look, she got the impression that he knew everything about everyone. At the same time, one could feel how deeply patriotic he was. Marina remembered these three days spent in Guatemala for the rest of her life, and when the Russian city of Sochi was announced as the capital of the future games, there was an indescribable joy and a feeling that Russia had already won this Olympics.

Her program “I’ll go, I’ll go out” was presented to the audience in the fall of 2009 on the stage of the Moscow State Variety Theater.

In 2013, the singer turned 30 years old and she timed her solo concert at the Rossiya State Central Concert Hall to coincide with this event; the program was called “On your birthday with love.”

The year 2014 in the creative life of Marina Devyatova was marked by another small anniversary: 15 years on stage, which was celebrated with the concert “Symphony of My Soul”.

In 2020, Marina was nominated for the Russian National Music Award as the best folk performer, but here she was surpassed by Pelageya, who received this award.

Songs performed by Marina Devyatova are recorded in four of her albums:

  • "People's Artist-3";
  • “I didn’t think, I didn’t guess”;
  • "I am happy";
  • "In the moonlight."

Second try

The exes met for the second time in 2016, when Marin’s beloved stepfather died. Alexey supported her, they began to communicate again. Now they were older, they were interested in being together. That same year, the couple found out they were expecting a child. They submitted an application to the registry office and played a modest wedding when Marina was already in the last months of pregnancy. Little Ulyana was born, to whom the singer devotes a lot of energy and time.

Devyatova says that she was on maternity leave for very little time: a month before the birth of her daughter, fans persuaded her to finally rest and prepare for childbirth. And just two months after giving birth, Marina returned to shape and appeared on stage.

Russian folk music

Our country, unlike many others, has a truly ancient history, culture and customs.

What is Russian folk music worth, because it:

It accumulated over centuries, transmitted orally through generations. Gives us an idea of how our ancestors lived. Proves the long history of the Russian people. It is based on “eternal problems” that are still relevant in the 21st century.

But, unfortunately, this type of music has not been popular in our country lately. Young people are increasingly interested in Western melodies of the second half of the 20th century. Older audiences also cannot find domestic performers in this genre who might be of interest.

A concert consisting entirely of folk music will not attract so many connoisseurs; it will not be possible to fill stadiums for such performances. And if it’s not commercially profitable, then it’s not worth pursuing and investing in the preservation and development of the direction. In any case, this is the view held by the majority.

Fortunately, with the appearance of Pelageya and Marina Devyatova on the stage, interest in folk art and folk gradually began to return.

Marina Devyatova's husband

Marina keeps her personal life secret, which makes her different from many of her “colleagues.” This is explained by the difficult life stories that the singer has in store:

The first serious relationship was with a man somewhat older than the performer herself. Her partner, a doctor by training, died suddenly of cancer. Subsequent relationships began already during the heyday of Marina Devyatova’s popularity. The new chosen one was Nikolai Demidov, who tried to take advantage of the girl’s popularity to promote his own solo career. At the moment, the singer has a boyfriend, whom she prefers not to talk about and keeps the relationship secret from journalists. In one of the interviews, she let it slip that the young man works in advertising. There is no news or even rumors about Devyatova’s imminent marriage yet.

This is such an interesting “marriageable bride”, but it looks like there is already a groom. At least, according to the heroine herself. And how much truth there is in this, given the painful experience - who knows.

For 32 years, Marina has never been married and has no children. And it seems that the rising star is completely satisfied with this state of affairs.

The singer's success story

Marina Devyatova’s life changed dramatically after the “People’s Artist” project, in the third season of which she took part in 2006.

After that, in ten years:

  • Three studio albums were released.
  • There have been an incalculable number of live performances.
  • A base of fans of creativity has been collected.
  • Cooperation has been established with many eminent colleagues.

Usually, after such a long period of time after gaining fame, everyone forgets about the singer. For the first couple of years, it manages to somehow stay afloat, due to the unspent reserves of popularity and fans, but then a little more time passes and the public’s interest disappears. Especially if creativity also gradually “fades out” and no new albums or songs appear.

But with Marina everything turned out differently. Every two or three years, this folk singer pleases her fans with a new album. And even now, without support from various shows and projects, she competes on equal terms with Pelageya for first place among performers of “folk” music.

Folk is already occupying its niche in the domestic music market, largely thanks to Marina Devyatova. All that remains is to wish her good luck in promoting her favorite direction and even greater success.

Even today, the singer Marina Devyatova is unfamiliar to many; the performer’s biography cannot “boast” of high-profile scandals or performances in front of crowded stadiums. Nevertheless, Marina is gradually developing in her chosen genre and this cannot but rejoice.
