Biography
The founder of the British rock group The Beatles, Sir James Paul McCartney, was born in 1942 in a small maternity hospital in the suburbs of Liverpool. His mother Mary worked at the clinic as a nurse at the time, and later took a new position as a home midwife. The boy's father, James McCartney, is Irish by nationality; during the war he was a gunsmith at a military factory. With the end of hostilities he became a cotton merchant.
In his youth, James studied music; in the 20s, he was part of one of the then famous jazz bands in Liverpool. Paul's father could play the trumpet and piano. He instilled his love of playing music in his children: the elder Paul and the younger Michael.

At the age of 5, Paul entered a Liverpool school. Here, at the age of 10, he took part in his first concert and received an award. A year later he was transferred to a secondary school called the Liverpool Institute, where he studied until his seventeenth birthday. In 1956, the McCartney family suffered a heavy loss: Mary's mother died of breast cancer. After her death, Paul withdrew into himself.
Music became his way out. Thanks to his father's support, the boy masters playing the guitar and writes his first musical compositions. It was this sad fact of the musician’s biography that largely influenced his rapprochement with John Lennon, who also lost his mother in his youth.

During his studies, Paul McCarthy manifests himself as an inquisitive student; he does not miss a single significant theater premiere, is interested in art exhibitions, and reads fashionable poetry. In parallel with his studies at college, Paul is engaged in a small business: he works as a traveling salesman. This experience became a useful acquisition for his entire future life: McCartney can easily carry on a conversation with anyone, he is open and friendly to everyone around him. At some point, the young man decided to become a theater director, but he failed to enter the institute, since he submitted his documents too late.
Paul McCartney married for the third time
The three-storey, light-colored, pillared building on Marylebone Road had been crowded since Sunday morning. Many people in the gathered crowd were holding signs saying “Congratulations!”, “McCartney - we are proud of you!” A whole army of reporters fought with the crowds of fans for a “place in the sun” - closer to the entrance.

No one was allowed inside the building, which is next to Madame Tussauds and the planetarium. After all, it was there, in the registration office of the London district of Westminster, that the ceremony that the whole of Britain was waiting for was supposed to begin - the marriage of Sir Paul and American businesswoman Nancy Shevell.

The newlyweds wanted to seal the bonds of marriage as quietly and modestly as possible. Therefore, only 30 people were invited to the registry office. These are relatives (including five children of 69-year-old Sir Paul) and closest friends. One of McCartney's acquaintances told me ahead of time that this would be a "top secret event." But where can one escape from the ubiquitous writing and filming fraternity, as well as passionate fans of the ex-Beatle!
The musician's first wife, Linda, who died of cancer, was as rebellious as Paul. But she lived with him in perfect harmony...
REGISTRY OFFICE INVITES
The registration office on Marylebone Road is truly the McCartney family registry office. He entered into his first marriage there with the American Linda Eastman 42 years ago. Here, maintaining the tradition, the daughter of the rock music legend Mary got married.
Many famous actors were also legally married in this office: Sylvester Stallone, Joan Collins, Barbara Windsor, David Wallians.
In the documents submitted to the registry office, the groom was listed as James Paul McCartney, and in the “profession” column it was written: “business administrator.” Nancy Shevell is introduced a little more modestly - simply “administrator”. Although she is the owner of a large company and a member of the board of directors of the New York City Transportation Authority.
On Sunday, all registry offices in the United Kingdom are closed, but for the star couple this is an unprecedented occasion in Albion! - an exception has been made. Moreover, they chose the day when another Beatles legend, John Lennon, was born. He would have turned 71 on October 9.
Paul's younger brother Mike acted as best man, and McCartney's seven-year-old daughter Beatrice (from his marriage to his second wife, former model Heather Mills) was a bridesmaid and carried a huge bouquet of flowers.
...but the second wife, former model Heather Mills, despite her angelic appearance, pretty much frayed the ex-Beatle’s nerves.
WEDDING RING FOR 400 THOUSAND. POUND
Over the long time I worked in England, I managed to see all three of McCartney’s wives, and I must say that, although Nancy is much older than the previous ones (the American is 51 years old), she looks, perhaps, brighter: fashionable, slender, very sociable, with a kind, pleasant smile. Ms. Shevell wears little jewelry, the only thing that catches your eye is an antique engagement ring from the world famous jewelry house Cartier with a large diamond worth £400,000. This is a gift from the groom.
“What an elegant couple!” - exclaimed the BBC correspondent in delight.
“I am very glad that Paul and Nancy chose our registry office for such an important event in their lives,” Alison Cathcart, head of the registration office department, told me. “I had the honor of leading this ceremony and seeing the smiles of joy on their faces when I declared them husband and wife.
From here the newlyweds were a stone's throw from St. John's Wood, where McCartney lives. There were many more guests there, and they went straight to the impressively sized tent, built especially for this occasion. At the height of the celebration, a huge cake was brought in. By order of the newlyweds, it was made of chocolate - especially for little guests.
True, Sir Paul's neighbors are not very happy.
“The last three days have been just a nightmare for us,” complains elderly Englishman Henry Manning. - All noise, the sound of hammers. Everyone was sawing and planing something. Trucks kept coming, bringing refrigerators, furniture, carpets, baskets of flowers, bags of ice. And no one cleaned up the trash...
MARRIAGE ON TRUST
The legendary ex-Beatle, of course, did not forget about his recent sad experience. How much he experienced during his second marriage to Heather Mills: insults, hassle, even fights! To top it all off, the former model sued him for almost 25 million pounds sterling (about $40 million) during the divorce. Therefore, no one would throw a stone at McCartney if he entered into a prenuptial agreement with his new wife. However, Sir Paul, despite everything, remains a romantic. He is said to have "refused to finalize the financial part of the marriage contract." Nancy, in turn, signed a short legal document, according to which she does not have any claims to the fund belonging to the children and grandchildren of the ex-Beatle.

In general, McCartney’s friends are convinced that his new missus, unlike the previous one, “will not ruin his life.” I would like to believe. After all, a great musician deserves family happiness...
BY THE WAY:
Paul McCartney will come to Moscow after his honeymoon
The one who looks like an energizer battery (like the one in the hare) is the unfading Sir Paul. The other day he got married again - he was not scared by the previous ruinous divorce - and now, as soon as he unpacks all the gifts, he is going on tour.
Tickets for McCartney's concert, which will take place on December 14 at the capital's Olimpiysky sports complex in Moscow, went on sale today.
This small tour (11 concerts) in several world capitals (Abu Dhabi, Bologna, Milan, Paris, Cologne, London itself, Liverpool, Stockholm, Helsinki and Moscow) continues his summer tour in the USA.
The occasion and reason for touring is the popular album “Band On The Run”, which McCartney and his band Wings recorded in 1973 and re-released in 2010, enriched with archival audio recordings, clips and video footage. (read more)

"The Beatles"
In 1957, the significant first meeting of the future creators of The Beatles took place. Paul McCartney's school friend invited him to try out for a youth group called "The Quarrymen", whose founder was Lennon. At that time, John was still poor at playing the guitar, and Paul happily shared his knowledge with his new friend.
Paul McCartney and George Harrison in their youth
The relatives of both teenagers were hostile to the strong youthful friendship that had emerged. But this did not affect the relationship of the young people, and they continued to compose music together. Paul McCartney invites George Harrison to the renewed team “The Quarrymen”, who will later become one of the members of the legendary quartet “The Beatles”.
By 1960, the young musical group was already performing in full force at the venues of Liverpool; Paul and John changed their previous name to the more sonorous “The Silver Beatles”, which after a tour to Hamburg was shortened to “The Beatles”. In the same year, Beatlemania began among the band's fans.
Beginning group "The Beatles"
The first songs that caused a storm of uncontrollable emotions among the public were “Long Tall Sally” and “My Bonnie”. Despite this, the recording of the first disc at Decca Records failed, and after a tour to Germany, the music group entered into a second agreement with the Parlophone Records label. At the same time, the fourth legendary member Ringo Starr appeared in the quartet, and Paul McCartney himself changed the rhythm guitar to the bass guitar.
Within two years, the group’s first hits “Love Me Do” and “How Do You Do It?” appeared, the authorship of which belonged entirely to Paul McCartney. From the first singles, the young man showed himself as a mature musician; all members of the group listened to his advice.
The image of The Beatles was different from others
From the very beginning, the group's image was different from other musical groups of that time. The musicians were focused on their creativity, they looked like real intellectuals. And if in the first albums John and Paul composed compositions independently, then later they came to co-creation.
In 1963, the single “She Loves You” topped the popular music chart in the UK and stayed at the top for almost two months. This fact officially secured the group’s status as the most popular group, and people in the country started talking about Beatlemania.
1964 was a breakthrough year for The Beatles on the world stage. The musicians go on tour throughout Europe and then travel to the USA. The quartet is greeted by crowds of fans; at their concerts, fans throw real hysterics. The Beatles finally conquered the United States after their performance on the central television channel in the Ed Sullivan Show program, which was watched by more than 70 million television viewers.

Who's hiding behind the camera?
Meet Paul McCartney's younger brother - Michael, or rather Peter Michael McCartney - musician, photographer, writer.
Musician . The first musical instrument that Michael McCartney began to master was the banjo. Dad Jim bought his eldest son a guitar and his youngest son a banjo to avoid conflicts. The McCartney brothers' first and last stage performance took place at Butlins Campground in Filey, Yorkshire, in the summer of 1957. In 1963, Michael took on the pseudonym McGear. “Gear” is Liverpudlian slang for “cool”, “cool”). He played in the group The Scaffold, whose highest success, according to New Musical Express, was the singles Thank You Very Much (1967) - 10th place; Lilly The Pink (1968) - 1st place; Liverpool Lou (1974) - 10th place.
In 1972, Michael released his first solo disc, “Woman” . It is noteworthy that on the cover of this album there is a photograph of Michael’s mother. "People thought I put a nun on the cover of 'Woman,' but that's our mom in a nurse's headdress."
The original is a photo of Mary McCartney when she worked at The Walton Hospital. Taken for the cover of the album “Woman” by Michael McCartney (Mike McCartney/McGear).
In 1974, his most successful solo album, McGear, was released in collaboration with his brother Paul McCartney and the group Wings, now considered a classic of British pop music. Scaffold broke up in 1977, and Michael's last solo single, "No Lar Di Dar (Is Lady Di)", was released in 1981 for the wedding of Lady Diana Spencer to Prince Charles.
Writer . He wrote a book of memoirs, “Thank You Very Much.” Mike McCartney Family Album" is about his and Paul's youth, and " Remember: The Recollections and Photographs of the Beatles" is about the Beatles. And also two children's books of fairy tales: “Roger Bear” and “Sonny Joe and the Kingdom Rhymes” . All books were successful and received good reviews from critics.
Quote: “My brother - James Paul McCartney - was born on June 18, 1942, on a clear day, when 16-year-old Marilyn Monroe got married, when the Japanese entered Burma, when Britain ran out of white bread, when Czech patriots destroyed Gestapo chief Heydrich, when Rommel took Tobruk after the departure of the British troops, when the British budget doubled show business, when the Air Force planes bombed Hamburg, when Hitler launched the V-2 rocket, when Fermi split the atom in Chicago, when the tape was invented, etc... ”
And finally - a photographer . One of the first photographs Mike took for the family album was a photograph of his brother before a performance at Butlins holiday camp. Paul recalls: “I still have a photograph of me in short pants and a school jacket - a kind of little dude. My brother took a photo of me. I’m standing in front of a stand of hot dogs, which delighted us!”
Hanging out for hours at rehearsals and concerts of his brother and his friends, Michael took photographs that later became legendary and were included in his book. “When the guys finished the concert, it was difficult for them to see me in the crowd. Then the camera flash would go off and they knew where to look for me,” said Michael. Because of his outburst, Beatles manager Brian Epstein gave him the nickname "Flash Harry" .

The first photographs of Michael appeared in the early 60s in the newspaper "Merseu Bear" , signed under the pseudonym Francis Michael . With access to rock 'n' roll stars, the younger McCartney filmed not only the live shows of Little Richard or Jerry Lee Lewis or Jimi Hendrix , but also behind-the-scenes scenes. Good, for example, is the shot of Graham Nash sleeping on the train. Jeff Beck , Billy Jay Kramer , The Shadows , and Elvis Presley came into the field of view of his photographic lens . His work has appeared at various times in Life and Newsweek . In 1986, Michael McCartney published an album of his photographs from the 60s - Mike's Mac's White And Blacks Plus One Color (Aurum Press, UK) . Another of his photo albums was released under the title Remember Early . His hometown of Liverpool has long been a special “section” in Michael McCartney’s photographic passions.

The Beatles break up
In many ways, Paul's removal from the group's affairs was influenced by the difference in the philosophical views of the musicians. In addition, the appointment of the dubious Alan Klein to the role of group manager, against whom only McCartney opposed, finally split the team.
On the eve of his departure from The Beatles, McCartney created several immortal singles: “Hey Jude”, “Back in the USSR” and “Helter Skelter”, which were included in the list of songs on the White Album. The cover of the latter had a special design: it was pure white, without any photos.
Interestingly, this is the only record in the world that was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the fastest selling record. The latest album, “Let It Be,” was Paul McCartney’s final album as part of the quartet.
McCartney managed to finalize the legal cases with The Beatles by the beginning of 1971. Thus, the legendary group ceased to exist, which over the several years of its existence created six “diamond” albums, took first place in the list of the 50 greatest performers, received 10 Grammy awards and one Oscar.
“The same Maria”: Paul McCartney showed a photo of his young mother who died of breast cancer
One of the founders of The Beatles, Paul McCartney lost his mother when he was fourteen, and his brother Michael was twelve years old. Mary Patricia Mowin died of breast cancer in 1956, aged 47.
Paul loved his mother very much, who dreamed that her son would become an outstanding person. Early loss was one of the reasons for the rapprochement between McCartney and John Lennon, whose mother died when he was 17.
On Mother's Day, Paul McCartney posted a family photo on his Instagram account in which he and his brother pose with their mother, apparently sitting in a boat. In the caption to the photo, the musician wished all mothers in the world a happy holiday.
Paul McCartney with his mother and brother
In 1970, one of the most famous songs by Paul McCartney, “Let it be,” was released. The musician later recalled that the creation of the hit was largely inspired by the memory of his beloved mother.
According to him, he was depressed and did not feel well. One night his mother dreamed of him and said: “Let everything be like this; don’t worry, everything will work out.” When Paul woke up, he felt relieved and wrote a song. “This dream saved me when I was on the very edge of the abyss...” notes the musician.

Numerous subscribers to McCartney’s blog could not help but recall in the comments to his post the famous lines from the composition: “In times of anxiety / Mother Mary (Mary) comes to me, / Saying wise words: So be it.”

Fans also paid tribute to the mother of their favorite artist and thanked her for giving birth to and raising good children.
“Thank you, Mary, for giving us two such wonderful boys,” “Your mother would be proud of you,” “Mother Mary, be blessed,” “You are so sweet, I’m about to cry,” “Wonderful children and a great mother,” “Oh Paul, what a sweet photo of you, your brother and your beautiful mother. You both must still miss her. All the best to you and your family - hope you are well. Take care of yourself".
Linda McCartney with children
On Mother's Day, Paul McCartney's daughter Stella, who became a successful fashion designer, also made a touching blog entry.
Her mother, the musician’s beloved wife Linda, also died early from cancer: she, like Mary, was diagnosed with breast cancer.
“I miss my mom. Blessed to be a mom. I celebrate the day of all mothers of yesterday, today and tomorrow and think about all the mothers who cannot be with their children due to the virus and self-isolation. Please #StayHome,” Stella wrote, posting a selection of family photos.
Linda McCartney
Linda McCartney died in 1998 at her family ranch in Arizona after a three-year battle with cancer. She was 56 years old. Paul McCartney was grieving the loss of his wife, whose marriage lasted three decades, and, in his words, “he cried for a whole year.” Linda and Paul have three children, and the musician also adopted her daughter from his first marriage.
In 2002, McCartney married for the second time. His chosen one was model Heather Mills. In the fall of 2003, the artist’s youngest daughter, Beatrice Milli, was born. However, the marriage turned out to be unhappy and already in 2006, divorce hearings began.

Now Paul McCartney is happy in his third marriage: in 2011, he married American Nancy Shevell. The designer of the wedding dress for the ceremony was the musician’s daughter Stella.

Solo career
Since 1971, largely thanks to his wife Linda, Paul began a solo career. The group’s first album, “Wings,” in the creation of which the Philadelphia Orchestra took part, took first place at the top of the charts in the UK and second place in the USA, and the duet of Paul and Linda was named the best in their homeland.
McCartney's former colleagues spoke negatively about the musician's new experience, but Paul continued to compose songs for a duet with his wife. The supergroup also included famous British musicians Denny Lane and Danny Savell.
Paul McCartney and the band "Wings"
Several times after this, Paul and John participated in joint concerts, they maintained a calm and friendly relationship until Lennon's death, which occurred in 1980. A year after the death of his friend, Paul stopped his musical activities as part of the group “Wings” for fear of being killed, like Lennon.
After the dissolution of the group “Wings,” Paul McCartney created the album “Tug of War,” which is considered the best disc in the singer’s solo career. For his family, the musician acquires several old estates and creates a personal music studio in his mansion. McCartney's new albums regularly receive high marks from critics and are also popular with the public.
In 1982, the singer received another award from the Brit Awards as best artist of the year. He works hard and fruitfully. He devotes his new songs from the album “Pipes of Peace” to the topic of disarmament and peace on the planet.
In the 80-90s, Paul McCartney recorded many collaborations with other famous performers, such as Tina Turner, Elton John, Eric Stewart. Paul experiments with arrangements, often recording songs accompanied by the London Orchestra. Often in his work flops are combined with hits.
Without departing from rock and pop music, Paul McCartney writes many works of the symphonic genre. The pinnacle of the British musician’s classical work is considered to be his fairy tale ballet “The Ocean Kingdom,” which was performed by the Royal Ballet in 2012.
The former lead singer of The Beatles creates soundtracks for British cartoons. In 2020, an animated film written by Paul McCartney and his friend Jeff Dunbar, High in the Clouds, was released.
Since the mid-80s, the singer has been trying himself not only in music, but also in painting. McCartney exhibits regularly in New York galleries. He has already written more than 500 paintings.
Beatles breakup
In 1968, the Beatles released the White Album.
The record was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the fastest-selling music album of the 20th century. Paul McCartney is the author of the idea to place the record in a white sleeve without any inscriptions. Almost all of Paul's songs from this album have become rock classics. The song "Helter Skelter" became the first hard rock composition in the history of music. In January 1969, during the filming of the film “Let It Be,” disagreements began in the group due to Paul’s absolute dominance in all areas of the group’s activities. John Lennon said that his creative duo with McCartney had exhausted itself. On the last day of February 1969, relations in the group became tense, and the group actually ceased to exist. In this work they complete work on the album “Abbey Road”, essentially the last album of the group (the record “Let It Be”, released in 1970, was mixed from material recorded in parallel with the “White Album”). On December 31, 1969, McCartney began legal proceedings to end the existence of the Beatles.
Personal life
At the same time, a girl appeared in Paul McCartney’s personal life, communication with whom greatly influenced the musician’s worldview. It was a young artist, model Jane Asher. During the five years that the love affair lasted, Paul McCartney became close to Jane's parents. They occupied a special position in London's high society.
Paul McCartney and Jane Asher
The young man moved into the penthouse of the six-story Asher mansion. Together with Jane McCartney's family, he attends avant-garde theater productions, he gets acquainted with modern musical trends and listens to classics. At this time, Paul created some of his most famous works - “Yesterday” and “Michelle”. Gradually the musician moves away from his friends in the group. He devotes all his leisure time to communicating with the owners of famous art galleries and becomes the main buyer in a bookstore devoted to the study of psychedelics.
Paul McCartney and Linda Eastman
After breaking up with Jane Asher, which occurred on the eve of their wedding due to Paul's infidelity, the musician does not remain alone for long. Soon he meets a girl who becomes his first wife. Linda Eastman was one year older than McCartney and worked as a photographer. With his wife and her daughter Heather from his first marriage, Paul McCartney settled outside the city in a small mansion and began to lead a fairly secluded lifestyle.
In their marriage, Paul and Linda McCartney had three children: daughters Mary and Stella, son James.
Paul McCartney with his wife Linda and children
In 1997, he was awarded an English knighthood and became Sir Paul McCartney. A year later, the singer experienced a great tragedy in his life: his wife Linda McCartney died of cancer.
After some time, the musician will find solace in the arms of former model Heather Mills, while not forgetting his first wife. In her honor, he will create an entire album and release a film with photographs and photographs of Linda. All proceeds from the sale of discs will go towards donations for the treatment of cancer patients.
Paul McCartney and Heather Mills
In 2001, he learns that he is losing another of his old friends, George Harrison. But the bitterness of Paul McCartney's losses was brightened by the appearance of his third daughter, Beatrice Millie, in 2003. The baby instilled hope in her father, and he got a second wind for creativity.
Paul McCartney with his last wife
After some time, the British singer separated from his second wife and soon married for the third time to American businesswoman Nancy Shavell. Paul McCartney knew his third wife during Linda's lifetime. Nancy was one of those who at one time dissuaded the musician from his second marriage to Heather, warning him about the bride’s dishonesty. Such warnings turned out to be prophetic. During the divorce process, Heather sued her ex-husband for a hefty sum of several million pounds.
Today, Paul McCartney lives with his new family on his estate in America.

With this act he shocked Paul McCartney and became his enemy.
"The Quarrymen" by Paul McCartney
McCartney's school friend Ivan Vaughan, who played in John Lennon's band The Quarrymen, once invited Paul to the band's performance in Walton. It was then that McCartney met Lennon for the first time. After the performance, a spontaneous audition took place, as a result of which Paul was accepted into Lennon's group. Soon the guys became fast friends. This friendship was negatively received by the families of teenagers, but Lennon and McCartney began to work together. McCartney soon brought his friend George Harrison into the group, thus forming the final lineup of the group. By 1960, the Quarrymen renamed themselves The Silver Beatles. Subsequently, the name is shortened to the usual “The Beatles” and the ensemble goes on tour to Hamburg.

Paul McCartney's first wife Linda
The woman Paul McCartney loved for so long couldn't be bad.
Once a fortune teller from Brighton told the then aspiring musician Paul McCartney that his wife would be a woman with white hair and they would have 4 children. Paul accused her of charlatanism, because at that time he was engaged to the red-haired Jane Asher. However, the blonde did not have to wait long. Jane soon left Paul, and Linda Eastman took her place.
Linda was a native New Yorker. She was born into an exceptionally intelligent family. Linda's dad and brother studied at Harvard, but the girl did not have any special talents in comprehending science. Her hobbies were photography, music and animals.
Before meeting gender, Linda had already experienced family life, although her first marriage was unsuccessful. She got married barely out of school when she was 18 years old. Her chosen one was a future geologist, a student as young as she was. They had a daughter, Heather, but this did not strengthen the relationship of the young spouses. Linda very soon realized that she had made a mistake and ran away from her husband. She went to New York and got a job as a photo reporter for a fashion magazine.
In the spring of 1967, Linda came to London to see with her own eyes the growing popularity of The Beatles. This is how Linda and Paul McCartney first met.
They met at the Bag of Nails nightclub. Paul immediately drew attention to the beautiful, confident blonde, and when she approached their table, he rather impudently invited Linda to leave the club and go to his room together. She agreed.
Several girls were spinning around Paul, dreaming of his attention, and it would seem that at first Linda was one of them. As H. Davis, a Beatles biographer, wrote: “At first we thought Linda was just a trouble-free girl who idolized Paul.” But this girl was not so simple. She managed to sideline her rivals and make Paul fall in love with her.
Paul was flattered by the affection of a smart girl from a good, intelligent family. In addition, Linda knew how to touch the delicate strings of the soul of a romantic musician. She introduced him to her daughter Heather, and even made a photo collage of Heather tenderly kissing Paul. This gesture did not go unanswered.
The main reason for the engagement was Linda's announcement of pregnancy. However, she gave birth to her daughter only 14 months later. The deception became obvious after the wedding.
Paul and Linda married in 1968, and their daughter Mary, named after Paul's mother, was born on December 28, 1969. Their marriage turned out to be strong, there was excellent mutual understanding between the spouses.
After their marriage, Paul and Linda dramatically changed their wild lifestyle. They settled in a private house with a household.
