Childhood and youth: Chelyabinsk – Slavutich – Kyiv
In the fall of 1988, a boy was born into the family of Chelyabinsk nuclear engineer Alexander Eremin and director Lydia Dorn, who was named Ivan. In the early nineties, my father was sent to the Chernobyl nuclear power plant (after the accident, three units of the station operated for several more years), and the family moved to the city of Slavutich near Kiev, built almost from scratch after the contamination of Pripyat.
Ivan Dorn in childhood
In early childhood, the child discovered a singing talent, and already at the age of 6 Vanya took part in the city music festival “Golden Autumn of Slavutich”. Having become a first-grader, the boy continued his vocal studies.
The divorce of his parents greatly affected Ivan, especially since his mother decided to erase his father from their life forever. Vanya, whose last name was Eremin, entered second grade as Dorn. He saw his dad again only in 2020, learning at the same time that he had a half-sister, Alexandra. As Dorn’s father stated in an interview with reporters, after the divorce, Lydia found a “richer and more suitable husband,” Vasily Kolobov, and forbade her sons (Ivan and his brother Pavel) to see him.
Parents of Ivan Dorn
At school, Ivan was actively involved in tennis and swimming, athletics, and in ballroom dancing he reached the level of a candidate master of sports. He especially liked sailing, where he became a master of sports. He also managed to play chess and football. Ivan’s activity and enthusiasm were enough for him, in addition to general education, to also graduate from a music school in piano. Teacher-historian Valentina Bachinina characterized Dorn as a good student who always came to class in a formal suit, whose portrait hangs on the honor board.
Young Dorn – CMS in ballroom dancing
As the singer recalled, at school some of the kids called him a clown, while others sincerely considered him a friend: Numerous music competitions in which Dorn participated as a schoolboy brought him well-deserved awards. He was a laureate of the Moscow competition “Light up your star”, “Black Sea Games” and “Crimean Pearl”.
During his school years, Ivan Dorn was the star of music festivals
In 2008, Ivan attended a competition in Jurmala, and in his senior year he decided to declare himself at the Star Factory casting, but Konstantin Ernst did not like the guy, they say, he had no zest, and he was denied further participation. Dorn calls this episode happy, because he believes that for many “manufacturers”, including Dmitry Koldun, participation in the “Factory” gave only “bad producers and nothing more.”
Ivan Dorn in his youth
Returning to Slavutich and receiving a certificate of secondary education, the young man entered the Kiev National Theater University named after Ivan Karpenko-Kary, taking the course of Vladimir Oseledchik. The competition was great, but Dorn successfully passed the exams and became a student at the cinematography department. After graduating from university, he came to a television casting and quite easily became the host of the M1 music channel.
Stars
Ivan Dorn was born in Chelyabinsk. In 1990, his family moved to the Ukrainian city of Slavutich, as his father worked at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Until the second grade, Vanya bore his father’s last name, Eremin, but he soon abandoned his family. Mom Lydia Dorn gave her son her last name because she didn’t want Vanya to have anything to do with his father. Many years later, Ivan admitted that he had almost completely erased from his memory all memories of his early childhood.
Vanya Dorn has a brother, Pavel. When their mother married for the second time, two half-brothers appeared in their family - also Ivan and Pavel.
At the age of 6, Ivan first appeared on stage at the “Golden Autumn of Slavutich” festival. At school he studied well, played sports and participated in any creative activity. He graduated from a music school with a degree in piano and regularly won numerous music competitions.
In 2006, Ivan entered the Kiev National University of Theater, Film and Television named after I.K. Karpenko-Kary to the Faculty of Cinematography. He studied with difficulty, but never gave bribes to teachers (this was confirmed by a lie detector in the program “Only the Truth”). In his second year, Dorn dropped out and tried himself as a TV presenter. For some time he successfully worked on the Ukrainian channel.
Then, in 2006, at the Jamiroquai concert, Ivan met Anna Dobrydneva, with whom they formed the duet “Pair of Normals”. They became popular in Russia and other CIS countries, and in the fall of 2008 they released their debut album “I’ll come up with a happy-end.”
In 2010, Dorn left the group (his place was taken by Artem Mekh ) and began a solo career. In 2011, Ivan released the video clips “ Northern Lights ”, “Stytsamen” and “ So Strong ”.
On May 25 in Kyiv and May 26, 2012 in Moscow, the official presentation of the first solo album Co'N'Dorn took place. In June 2012, Billboard Russia magazine placed Ivan Dorn on the cover as “the main hero of young musicians.”
In the fall of 2012, Ivan Dorn recorded the soundtrack for the reality show on the U channel “Top Model in Russian” with Irina Shayk, taking the chorus from his song “Curlers” as the basis for the musical theme, as well as a version of “The holiday is coming to us” for the commercial Coca-Cola.
In November 2014, a new studio album, Randorn, . The release of the album was supported by such singles as “ Ill-mannered ”, “ Mishka is guilty ”, “ Number 23 ”, etc.
During the period of work on the new, English-language album, Dorn changed his image, shaving his head bald and growing a beard.
In February 2020, the live album " Jazsy Funky Dorn " was released. The single “Collaba,” released in March, was described by Dorn as “an ode to prostitutes.” “Collaba” becomes one of the key hits in Ukraine in the first half of 2020.
Ivan is actively involved in sports. He has titles:
- Master of Sports in sailing - Candidate Master of Sports in ballroom dancing - 2nd category in swimming - 3rd category in adult athletics.
In addition, Dorn loves to play football, tennis and chess.
"Pair of normal"
After working for about a year as a TV presenter, in 2007 Ivan created the duet “Pair of Normals” with choral festival laureate Anna Dobrydneva, whom he met at a concert of the Jamiroquai group.
“A Pair of Normals”: Ivan Dorn and Anna Dobryndeva
Anna, a choirmaster by training, had experience of participating in major rock festivals as part of the teams Mournful Gust (doom metal), Stan (nu metal), and Karna. In addition, before meeting Dorn, the girl managed to serve as a regent in a church choir and perform a fire-show program. The unusual duet quickly gained popularity and a year later delighted fans with the debut album “I’ll Come Up with a Happy Ending.”
Ivan Dorn at the beginning of his career
On the Ukrainian music channel M1, the group remained in the top twenty songs for a month, and in the Sheremetyevo-Boryspil hit parade it took the top position for more than a month. The tracks of “Normal Couples” were included in fifteen collections in all CIS countries, the total circulation of which exceeded half a million discs. A couple of Normals - Happy End The group qualified for the 2009 New Wave competition. However, the song “Happy End” brought the guys only sixth place (future Eurovision winner Jamala took first place), but after “New Wave” the duo’s songs were included in the rotation of Russian music channels and radio stations.
Young Ivan Dorn
Another album, “Scandal During Advertising,” was released in the spring of 2010, after which Ivan decided to start a solo career, and in his place the producers took Artem Mex, a member of the Ukrainian “Star Factory.” Dorn explained his decision as follows: In subsequent years, the singer rarely remembered his first creative team, because he really did not like being a producer's puppet, earning meager fees (about 10% of income) and participating in the election program of Ukrainian presidential candidate Viktor Yushchenko. In the summer of 2010, Ivan left Pair of Normals so that no one else could control his creative career.
short biography
Ivan was born on October 17, 1988 in Chelyabinsk. At the age of two, he moved with his parents (mother Lydia Dorn, father Alexander Eremiin) to Ukraine because of his father’s work at the Chernobyl nuclear power plant. Initially, Ivan’s last name was Eremin, but after his parents’ divorce, he decided to take his mother’s last name, and with it he became a famous performer. Ivan has a younger brother - Pavel.
Ivan began to show his musical talent from school. He participated in the school KVN, hosted festive events, and also starred in a film about the school. Teachers loved Ivan for his sharp mind, charm and activity, but he was not an excellent student and a good boy. The boy first performed on a serious stage at the age of 6, at the festival of the famous competition “Golden Autumn of Slavutich”. In addition, the young man attended a music school, learning to play the piano.
Ivan Dorn himself did not see his future in music and was seriously involved in various sports (from football to ballroom dancing). His persistence in the sports field was rewarded with many titles and medals.

In his last year at school, he decided to attend the “Star Factory 6” casting, but the young man did not pass the casting.
After school, Dorn entered the I.K. Karpenko-Kary University, located in Kyiv, becoming a student at the Faculty of Cinematography.
After graduating from university, the young man passed an interview and became a TV presenter on a music channel. But he soon realized that the role of presenter did not suit him and left this job.

Solo career: Stytsamen to the rescue
Almost immediately, Dorn assembles his own “Dorn Gang,” almost by accident. As soon as he left the duet with Dobrydneva, he was offered to perform at a corporate event. The singer gave his consent and literally in ten days, together with Bestseller and Pahatam, assembled a new program from scratch: Ivan, who knows the value of well-coordinated teamwork, emphasizes in all interviews how important his “dornoband” is for him. Its initial core consisted of Roman Bestseller (producer of Svetlana Loboda, Dzhigan, Jamala), DJ Pahatam (Evgeniy Yaremenko, who started with hip-hop) and Lemonade Joe (Yuri Gritsak, beatmaker).
Creative team of Ivan Dorn
For Dorn, as a neurotic (as he calls himself), a hyper-diplomatic person, it is important to know what is happening in the families of the team, whether the children are healthy, what the relationships are within the team. He worries about everyone, accepts everyone, forgives, just as they forgive him, who is quite impulsive, but always admits his mistakes.
With his “dornoband” Ivan created such hits as “Northern Lights”, “Don’t be shy”, “Mishka is guilty”, “Curlers” and many others. But it all started in 2011, with the rotation of the song “Stytsamen” on the radio, the name of which was interpreted in different ways: either as “a savior from the bad taste that has filled the musical airwaves,” or as an arbitrary set of letters. The song, and then the video clip, were so different from everything heard and seen before that Dorn was immediately called a “breakthrough” and a “ray of light.”
Ivan Dorn - Stytsamen With every change in the scenery of life, Ivan immediately changed. The fear of marking time has lived in him since childhood. The main thing is that he is not afraid that his metamorphoses will leave him without an audience: Metamorphoses also occur in music. For almost nine years of his solo career, Dorn not only wrote songs for his own performance, but also collaborated with many domestic and foreign performers. An electronic duet was recorded with Victor Solf, with Apollo Monkeys there is a song “Blue, Yellow, Red”, folklore themes are heard in collaboration with Zventa Sventana.
A change in image has always been followed by a change in creative paradigm
2012 brought Dorn his first own album, “Co'N'Dorn,” which received three nominations for the Steppenwolf Award and became a Muz-TV Award nominee in the Breakthrough category.
In 2012, Dorn received the Muz-TV Award as Breakthrough of the Year
A month after the presentation of the album, the musician’s photo graces the cover of Billboard Russia magazine as the main character of young musicians, and then his soundtrack to the reality show “Russian Top Model” by Irina Shayk, based on the theme of his own composition “Curlers,” is released.
2014 gave fans Dorn’s album “Randorn”. During this period, the musician appeared before the viewer with a shaved head and a thick beard.
In 2014 the album Randorn was released
Three years later, the live album “Jazzy Funky Dorn” was released. The single “Collaba,” which the musician called “an ode to prostitutes,” occupied a leading position on the Ukrainian charts for almost the entire 2020. In the video for this song, Dorn danced as a transvestite. Ivan Dorn – Collaba And the newly transformed Ivan went to America, where he recorded another studio (and first English-language) album “Open the Dorn” (OTD), which became a trial balloon on the way to the musician’s dream of winning a Grammy, a kind of way out of his comfort zone, not allowing fantasy to stagnate. And the artist’s image changed: he shaved off his beard, leaving only a mustache, and his hairstyle resembled Gogol’s characters - a bob with an even parting in the middle.
Dorn shaved his beard live
Not all old listeners who fell in love with the musician back in the “Stytsamen” period understood Dorn’s new album. Ivan himself understands this, as well as the fact that any creative development is always accompanied by a “weeding out” of the public who are not ready for experiments, and the emergence of new fans.
Ivan Dorn: solo career
The start of Ivan Dorn’s solo career happened in 2010, as soon as the singer left the group “A Pair of Normals”. Radio stations put Dorn's track “Stytsamen” into rotation, which was followed by other hits.
Ivan Dorn: solo career
One of Dorn’s videos for the song “Northern Lights” amazed me with the quality and freshness of the approach to translating the meaning of the song into a visual series. Dorn immediately began to be invited to performances, and he actively toured. At the same time, the performer is recording his debut album.
As soon as it was released, Ivan Dorn’s new solo album received many nominations for various prestigious awards. The singer himself appears on the cover of Billboard Russia magazine. The uniqueness of Ivan Dorn’s rise is also that no one is producing it. The singer independently promotes all his albums and videos via the Internet using social networks. It is impossible to get into the clubs where Dorn gives concerts after the release of his first album - everything is packed and there are no tickets, and this is with minimal advertising.
Dorn's Workshop
In 2020, Dorn headed the free music format label Masterskaya, whose head office is in Kyiv.
The musician positions the creation of the “Workshop” as a platform for the realization of independent artists and the release of music. According to him, music publishing does not bring in much money, but there was no such goal: According to Ivan, the concept of a label as a “stupid money-making machine,” which is followed, for example, by Black Star or Malfa, will soon become obsolete. “We infect not with money, but with an idea,” says Dorn about the differences between the Workshop and the majors. He calls his “Workshop” a house of culture, and it actually somewhat resembles a Soviet project. People who are somehow connected with music gather in the room. They work in the studio, production workshop, and arrangement unit. There is a laboratory where aspiring artists are given musical equipment, tube analogue synthesizers, which are promoted by Dorn, who advocates high-quality sound.
In the workshop of Ivan Dorn. In the bar where you can have a cup of coffee, they will give you a mini-copy of the synthesizer so that a person can learn how the instrument works. There are also lecture halls and a stage for apartment residents, where you can present freshly written music.
Dorn in cinema
While still a member of the Normal Pair, Ivan made his debut in Vera Yakovenko’s comedy melodrama How to Find the Ideal? He took part in the filming of the film “Lovers” by several young Ukrainian directors, which tells in short sketches about the modern metropolis. Dorn played the main role in Alexander Barshak’s comedy “12 Months,” in which Alesa Kacher embodied the image of the main character who came to conquer Moscow.
Still from the film “12 Months”
Another main role, invented specifically for Ivan, is Kostya Potekhin in the musical film “Jolly Fellows” produced by producer Valery Todorovsky and director Alexei Bobrov. An aspiring musician tries to win the attention of a beauty (played by Ekaterina Shpitsa) and for this he agrees to take part in a music competition on television. Dorn practically plays himself: in a few days the hero of the film needs to assemble a group that he does not have, and also find true friends.

Dorn does not consider his film roles outstanding. For him, filming is another interesting experience, such as a charity project in 2018 for the construction of a dance school for African children in Uganda. The event was covered by major publications such as Complex and Billboard. In the same year, he, together with the Kurazh Bazar group, implemented another idea and launched a fundraiser to help music schools in Ukraine to purchase new musical instruments. Ivan Dorn – Afrika
Parents' divorce and passion for vocals
The future singer was born in 1988 in Chelyabinsk. Two years later, the whole family moved to Slavutich in connection with the new job of his father, Alexander Eremin, who, due to his profession, was sent to the Chernobyl station. His mother, Lydia Dorn, ran the household and raised children (his younger brother Pavel also grew up in the family). However, his parents soon divorced, and his mother registered Ivan under her last name. For a long time the boy could not forgive his father, who had a second family and a daughter. Only in 2020 did the singer meet with him and normalize relations.

His passion for vocals arose at the age of six, when the future performer performed on the stage of the Golden Autumn of Slavutich festival. At the same time, he attended sailing and athletics sections, ballroom dancing and swimming pool, Ivan won many awards and high ranks. He also studied piano at a music school and took part in many music competitions, in which he managed to win first place and audience awards. It is not surprising that the owner of multifaceted creative abilities after graduating from school chose the University named after I. Karpenko-Kary, where he successfully entered.
Personal life of Ivan Dorn
Ill-wishers have repeatedly tried to accuse Ivan of being gay. We hasten to disappoint: the musician has a completely traditional family, a beloved wife and two children.
Left: Ivan Dorn's wife Anastasia Novikova
Dorn met his future wife at school. Anastasia Novikova is his classmate and has always sympathized with the young man. But Ivan was in no hurry to tell her about his own feelings until he achieved something in life. Only four years after graduation they began dating, and then living together under the same roof.
Six years later, in 2013, their wedding took place in their native Slavutich, and in 2014 the couple had a daughter, Vasilisa. A year later, Nastya gave her husband an heir, Ivan Ivanovich.
Vasilisa, daughter of Ivan Dorn
The musician does not like to talk about his personal life and does not even wear a wedding ring. On his Instagram, he is in no hurry to post photos with his wife and children, but recently a video appeared on it in which Dorn’s wife dances with Kolya Serga to her husband’s track, which he recorded with Zventa Sventana called “My Husband Isn’t at Home.” Nastya, a designer by profession, supports all the ideas and endeavors of her beloved Ivan.

Ivan Dorn now
In 2020, the Museum of Modern Art in Moscow called “Garage” invited Ivan to become an ambassador of the exhibition “The Coming World: Ecology as a New Politics. 2030-2100." The musician, who has been concerned about environmental issues for a long time, agreed. It was there that the concept of “ecosexual” arose, which, according to Dorn, settled in him for a long time: As part of the exhibition, a joint project of Yandex.Music, WWF and Masterskaya birds was launched. The Birds Records label was launched, which released the song and video clip “Game”, calling for attention to endangered bird species, as well as to the ways in which humans are destroying bird habitats, even if unknowingly.
In 2020, Ivan Dorn surprised again with a new look
Dorn believes that every self-respecting famous person, “a trendsetter should have a social mission, and not just entertain subscribers.” Ivan also released an “eco-manifesto” as part of the project, which he commented as follows: In November 2020, Dorn organized a cleanup day at the Lesnaya dacha of the Timiryazev Agricultural Academy, for which he came from Kyiv. About two hundred people responded to the call of the singer and environmental activist. In three hours, dozens of bags of garbage were collected and sent for sorting to the most remote places in the park.

Latest news about Ivan Dorn
In 2020, the group of singer Ivan Dorn recorded the live album “Jazzy Funky Dorn” and a new Russian-English non-pop disc “Open the Dorn”. In the songs of these two collections and in the “Collaba” video, the versatility of the musical component is felt. In any case, this work is doomed to success, and I. Dorn will have many similar hits.
The musician does not consider these creations to be real contenders for the Grammy Award. They should be regarded as the artist's exit from his comfort zone and the first step of his team, which he calls the "dornoband", in creating complex and successful music.
I. Dorn managed to gather like-minded people around his idea: Roman Bestseller, responsible for the sound (producer of Loboda and Jamala), DJ-beatmaker Yuri Grytsak (aka Lemonade Joe) and Evgeniy Yaremenko (DJ Pahatam, a sophisticated specialist in club music, author of “Dorn’s” style).
