Find out when they will answer you!
Complex issue. And it’s difficult to answer, but I’ll try. I am answering, of course, from myself, so my opinion may differ from the “generally accepted” one. And I apologize in advance for the sheet, this question cannot be answered briefly. When I first came across materials from “Teen Wolf” (I think it was fan art), the first thing I caught my eye on was Dylan, although Hoechlin was also in the same frame with him. And if at first Dylan was captivated by his appearance, then his facial expressions, movements and enormous charisma came into play - I don’t know why, but you almost want to look at him in the frame. I’m still stuck on GIFs of him on Tumblr - the waves of his arms, the way he walks, his facial expression and his mobility in general. He plays with his whole body and due to this his characters seem alive and real. I have watched many films with his participation, and have not yet found one in which his acting seemed frankly unconvincing to me. Even Hoechlin has projects in which (IMHO) he did not portray the character very well, so my assessment of Dylan’s acting is 4+ (although sometimes he gives his best in such a way that you can give it a 5-). The thought crossed my mind to compare the performances of Dylan and Posey, I even went to Tumblr to find gifs, but I realized that it would be ineffective. After watching the gifs, I thought of this: in Teen Wolf, Stiles is an ordinary teenager. Yes, he hangs out with werewolves, coyotes and other evil spirits, he was a Nogitsune, participated in various rituals, etc., but he is a person, and there is no pathos in his behavior, which in most cases is perceived as overacting. Look at the first-season Derek - the frowning “I’ll burn you through my eyes” look, standing at attention, persistently ignoring stairs, cool lines: sheer window dressing. Almost all of the supernatural creatures in the series show off their power, and there are more of them in the show. While watching “The Mercenary” with Dylan, I sometimes squealed internally as if I was crazy - because the badass Baby with a gun at the ready is just FIRE - but at times I still got the feeling that he was overacting. It was clear that he wanted to show the coolness of the character, but it was perceived as showing off (the same problem, by the way, happened in the Maze Runner trilogy). On the other hand, even in “The Mercenary,” his performance was many times better than the efforts of some in “Teen Wolf,” for example. I've seen Dylan compared to Jim Carrey several times and, in part, the comparison is quite good. Now the meme “same energy” is circulating on the Internet, and if you look at how they behave on camera, you can notice a certain similarity. As for experience, no matter how many years a person has been doing a particular thing, there will always be someone who will do it much better. Moreover, the one who is less experienced can do better, and there are a huge number of reasons for this: experience (not quantity, but quality, i.e. diversity), diligence, acting school, the ability to adapt to different characters and learn new techniques, or ordinary talent (or maybe all of it combined). I don’t know for what reasons Dylan often looks much more advantageous than his colleagues, but the fact is that in most cases this is the case. My assumption is liveliness, mobility, developed facial expressions and play with the whole body. And then I don’t know why he captivates fans so much.
