Questions and answers from Roboshika: Robert Pattinson through the eyes of a fan!

Robert Pattinson doesn't want to bulk up for Batman role

The magazine just published an interview with Robert Pattinson conducted via video a month ago in April. As it turned out, the actor was in some mental distress at that moment. He was stuck in London, where he was filming The Batman (filming was stopped due to the coronavirus pandemic). He was stuck in a rented apartment - at least not alone, but with his girlfriend. With a minimum of clothing (“I took three T-shirts with me from Los Angeles!”), with a disgusting Internet connection, with constantly breaking equipment.

In theory, he needed to train for the role of Batman - Bruce Wayne, aka Man-Bat, is usually portrayed on screen as very pumped up. Warner Bros. Studio hired him a personal trainer, but in conditions of self-isolation she could not attend him. She left him a special platform for exercises - a Bosu hemisphere and dumbbells. She took an oath that without her he would practice all this, and went into quarantine.

But Pattinson doesn’t study and makes excuses for himself. He even begins (albeit indirectly) to criticize Christian Bale and Ben Affleck, who became jocks for this role. “I think if you're swinging all the time, you're part of the problem. You are setting a precedent. Nobody did this in the 70s. Even James Dean (a Hollywood star and considered a great actor who starred in three films in the 50s and died at 24 - Ed.) did not have defined muscles. When I was filming Twilight, I was asked to take my shirt off once and then asked to put it back on."

Pattinson says his co-star Zoe Kravitz (who plays Catwoman), on the other hand, has been working out hard five times a week during self-isolation. “And I, in fact, do practically nothing,” he sighs.

In the fight for the role of Batman, Pattinson beat out three other key contenders - Armie Hammer, Nicholas Hoult and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The film, directed by Matt Reeves, was filming in full swing in England when the country was covered by COVID-19; it is unknown when filming will resume. The Batman is scheduled to be released on October 1, 2021.

Questions and answers from Roboshika: Robert Pattinson through the eyes of a fan!

A few days ago, we announced a question-and-answer session about Robert Pattinson at the Cannes and Sydney film festivals. In this news we publish Marina’s answers - [email protected] to your questions.

Questions and answers

Question: Marina, tell me, do you think it’s worth taking your husband, brother, girlfriend with you to watch “Rover”? They don't like to strain their brains too much. Is the film entertaining, watchable, understandable? I want to take them with me to the second viewing. Costs? Or is it better to save your nerves? Your brother is a fan of all sorts of nerds, your husband is a fan of action movies, shooters, your girlfriend is a lover of romance?

Answer: This question is not at all stupid, but very appropriate. “The Rover” is a real man’s auteur cinema, which does not imply a pleasant time in the cinema, but is designed for the desire of a talented and extraordinary director to convey his life philosophy and attitude to today’s world problems through reasoning about the reasons and possibilities for human survival in non-standard conditions. For fans of action films, it may seem boring, for lovers of romance - doubly boring, difficult to perceive and frighteningly realistic in the murder scenes. And a lot will depend on dubbing. If it is superficial and loses the deep meaning of the mental torment and tossing of the main characters, their interpenetration into the bottomless well of crippled human souls, then perhaps it will become more open to the perception of the average viewer. Who knows. This film has an amazing atmosphere, which is also conveyed to the viewer through the incredibly talented selection and composition of the musical accompaniment. Every frame is imbued with its rhythm. It seems to me that after the first viewing you will understand who to go with for the second. You may find yourself alone again. You can take your friends and family with you to the “Maps to the Stars” session. Of course, it is also a “festival” film, this new Cronenberg film, but it looks easy, not tiring, and in some places even funny.

Question: What does Robert smell like? You have seen it in different situations, perhaps you have felt it.

Answer: As for the second question, I can say that, despite the signed contract with Dior, Rob and his clothes never wear sweet, spicy, harsh, “bright” enveloping scents. He always smells like he just got out of the shower, and his body radiates the warmth that spreads through him. The soft scent of clean skin with a slight hint of freshness.

Question: Marish, if it’s not a secret, what did you give Rob in Sydney?

Answer: It was a vintage compass made by an English master from the beginning of the last century (1915) in a natural wood box.

Question: Marina, what does Roberto smell like? Also, does he smoke? Is he very thin (in the sense of at least approximately)? Is he clubfoot? And sometimes I have the feeling that he likes to “drag” his legs, is there such a thing? His favorite movement is to pull his hair, does it come from excitement or what? AND WHAT COLOR ARE HIS EYES?????????

Answer: Hello, I wrote about the smell a little higher. As for smoking, I note that even if he smokes, it’s only electronic cigarettes. There is no foreign smell from his clothes and hair, which is inherent in even the most expensive cigarettes or cigars. In Sydney, after the premiere of The Rover, David Michaud went outside to smoke, because this is prohibited everywhere in air-conditioned rooms. But maybe the organizers found a secret place for Robert and his electronic devices inside the State Theater?

As for Rob's current physical condition, I will say that he has really lost a lot of weight over the past year. When dressed in “casual” clothes, he looks like a boy, and in “haute couture” suits, he looks like a slender man who you really want to feed, more than once. His shoulders are now no larger than size 48, but his body is so proportionate that he looks amazing with his current thinness. Although it is true that he is a little clubbing, he moves very easily, springily, sometimes taking very wide steps. Pulls his hair when he is surprised or puzzled by something. And he worries less and less now. But the eyes have not changed over the past two years, they are gray-blue with an iris with multi-colored specks around the pupil itself.

Question: How does Rob interact with Dean? Does he listen to him? Or, on the contrary, is Dean forced to follow Rob's wishes?

Answer: Everything regarding the safety of any event with Robert’s participation, be it an autograph signing, arrival and departure from a show or a film premiere, Dean McManus always acts as the host in this tandem, and in the literal sense of the word. Dean is always the first to get out of the car, open the door for Rob and very unobtrusively direct him in the right direction. Rob himself never determines the route along the rows of journalists or fans. But the speed of passage and the time of contact with individual people, if the regulations of the event allow, depend on him. If the audience is adequate, then Dean calmly stands nearby, watching everything that happens, sometimes not as severely as it might seem at first glance to an inexperienced viewer. From time to time he accepts gifts from the hands of his ward (and Rob always gives them to him), sometimes with a barely noticeable half-smile (more like a grimace), sometimes skeptically, he does not rush Rob when he is in contact with someone longer than usual or takes pictures. He only occasionally removes the fans' hands, protecting the star's body from tactile contact. And, of course, he immediately “gets rid of” the gifts, handing them over to one of the accompanying people. In Cannes on May 18, Rob was signing autographs for fans, accompanied only by bodyguards and television crews, so Dean had no choice but to give the CD I gave to another bodyguard. It was interesting to watch how he “humbly” accepted it and carried it in his hand the entire time until he followed Rob and Dean up to the upper terrace of the Palais des Festivals, where photo sessions usually take place.

Question: How does Rob interact with his team? With Nick and Steph? Which of these two has a friendlier relationship? Or does he behave with them exclusively professionally, like an employer with his subordinates?

Answer: I have always enjoyed watching this “dream team” work together. Rob talks to Nick more often than to Grace or Stephanie. But Nick also hurries Rob up, reminding him of the regulations by patting him on the back more often. And their relationships with each other look quite professional, which does not prevent them from showing warm human emotions. No one can help but smile or laugh when Rob smiles or laughs, and his managers and agents are no exception. And it is impossible to hide the pride in a man who is breaking the Hollywood stereotypes with one left, while becoming more and more independent and famous. And it can be read more and more clearly on their faces. Every time I see the three of them, tightly seated in the back seat of a limousine, tired and happy leaving the next premiere, I understand that there has long been a place for such concepts as friendship and love.

Question: Who do you think from the Maps to the Stars cast is most sympathetic to Rob? Who is he most attracted to?

A: I think it’s easy for anyone to partner with Rob, especially when the entire cast, regardless of gender or screen time in a film together, is caught up in Cannes euphoria. The participants of the film in the main competition program of an international festival of this level are happy a priori. The cast of "Maps" was no exception. On the afternoon of May 19, despite the cold, piercing wind and dampness, everyone was nice and smiling to each other, hugging and shaking hands lasted several minutes. And in the evening at the premiere the same atmosphere reigned. And don’t forget that they are all actors and actresses, and talented ones at that, so it’s not easy to determine the fine line between acting for the audience and real emotions. To truly understand what these people feel for each other, you really need to see them in a different setting. I can only say that for me the warmest (almost homely) was Rob’s communication with David Cronenberg.

Question: What exactly did Rob tell you when you gave him gifts?

Answer: Nothing special really. Robert tries to control his words and actions in public. And it’s no wonder when the lenses of so many cameras and prying eyes are directed at you. Spontaneous eruption of words is unusual for him; he very vividly conveys his emotions through facial expressions, eye expression, and smile. At the same time it looks natural. He was literally stunned by my Cannes gift. I was sincerely surprised and even discouraged, so, taking the disk in my hands, I literally exhaled: “What is this, where does it come from?” And after my explanations, realizing that it was not for sale anywhere, but was made especially for him as a birthday gift, he calmed down and politely thanked him.

In Sydney he started smiling as soon as he approached because he recognized me and heard me talking to Dean. And then he laughed heartily when I asked him if he was able to listen to the disc and if he liked the sound quality. After I said that I had another unusual gift for him, Rob, running his left hand through his hair, looked with interest at the wooden box lying in my palm for several seconds. Then he became curious: “What is this?” , and I said: “Open it!” And he opened it and was even more amazed, because, apparently, he decided that it contained a vintage watch. When he realized that this was something else, he smiled again and said: “I will definitely need this! Thank you!" And then there were his attempts to take a photo together with my camera, which did not work, and the same autograph with my name that he signed on the Cannes photo.

Question: Which Cannes premiere did you think Rob was happier and more relaxed at?

Answer: This year he was emotionally on the rise at both premieres and practically did not worry, as two years ago before the screening of “Cosmopolis” at GTL, when sweat streamed down his temples, despite the rainy weather and strong gusty winds. At the midnight premiere of “The Rover,” which literally amazed many at Cannes this year and received one of the highest ratings from professional critics and journalists who watched the film on May 17, Robert beamed with happiness, laughed a lot and looked very confident. And even at night in the departing limousine, the smile did not leave his face. But two premieres in a row over four days of endless interviews, photo shoots, parties, business lunches and dinners will exhaust anyone, so after the end of the screening of “Maps”, at one o’clock in the morning, walking down the steps of the Palace of Festivals under the flashes of cameras, Rob looked tired. He was thoughtful and quickly got into the waiting car, not reacting to the remarks of the fans and local paparazzi who surrounded it.

Question: And if you compare two festivals - Cannes and Sydney, in your impressions, which one did you like better?

Answer: The Cannes International Film Festival is a lottery. Because it is designed primarily for professionals from the world of cinema and its main goal, in addition to popularizing modern auteur cinema, is to conclude purchase and sale transactions for both finished films and the rights to create and distribute them in different countries. Cannes is the noise of the crowd, endless parties, the sparkle of diamonds, luxury cars, yachts and a fashion show of the idle public in outfits from famous couturiers along the Croisette. By and large, Cannes is a business, the surroundings of which are the stars of the first magnitude of world cinema. For many ordinary tourists and fans who fly to Cannes for the first time, it seems that they are superfluous at this celebration of life. Some leave the city disappointed, like the Russian fan I met after the Rover photo call from the PopcornNews website, who, having spent almost a week in Cannes this year, was only able to catch a glimpse of Rob and did not watch a single festival film.

There are no official sales of invitation tickets to shows in Cannes. They can only be ordered online by those who are accredited. The best seats in the main hall of the Palace of Festivals - GTL go to those who have the highest priority, including Film Market participants. Sometimes journalists, photographers, and other participants with a low level of accreditation themselves ask their colleagues for these same invitations to shows. If you do not have an official badge allowing entry to the Palais des Festivals, you cannot see the film in the press rooms (there are several of them on the seven floors of the building, but competition films are usually held in the Debussy hall, which has its own red carpet in front of the entrance). All competition shows, including daytime and evening galas attended by stars, take place in the GTL hall. Their fashion show along the famous Red Carpet is broadcast live by all the world's media. Anyone who does not have accreditation, but owns the coveted invitation card, can get here. Finding an accompanying person is not difficult; here, almost everyone standing in line to enter has a badge. But getting the coveted ticket itself is a matter of chance. Dozens of people at the press entrances ask for these same invitations, but only a few receive them. Why some are lucky and others are not, I don’t know the answer to this question. You can come to all 10 days of the festival and not see a single film. Or you can fly in for 2-3 days and attend all the premieres you need.

The Sydney International Film Festival is the direct opposite of Cannes. He is very “modest” and democratic, therefore accessible to the general public. Anyone can buy a ticket to a screening of a film participating in the competition program, sitting at home at their computer. My ticket to the evening premiere showing of “The Rover” at the State Theater on June 7, 2014 cost only 22.5 AUD (just under 700 rubles). Moreover, the entire event with the participation of Robert, Guy Pearce and David Michaud, including interviews with journalists, CDs, communication with fans, watching the film together, and answering questions (Q&A) to the assembled audience took almost 4 hours.

In Sydney you can go to a film premiere in jeans and a T-shirt and no one will look at you with contempt or sympathy. During the screening of the film, the audience will empathize with the characters without hiding their emotions. And when the magic ends and the last credits disappear from the screen, you, not being a journalist, can see one of the film’s creators right in the hall after the end of the screening.

Therefore, despite the fact that I love Cannes, which reciprocates by giving me an amazing opportunity to see the latest in world cinema long before their releases in Russia and other countries, as well as incredibly emotional meetings with Robert, I liked the Sydney Film Festival a little more.

Question: In general, my main question is... IS IT REAL? THIS IS NOT PHOTOSHOP?

Answer: Of course it is real!

Question: How did you not faint from his proximity (sounded double). Did you focus on him or were you half-oblivious?

Answer: You know, staying calm around Rob is not difficult for me now. It's a matter of habit. I actually travel the world a lot and have had a lot of experience interacting with the rich and famous, including famous musicians, theater, film and television stars. Over the past two years, I have seen Robert at various events many times. In addition, I communicated with him in real life (this happened in LA last November and here on the site there is my story about this meeting). I know his parents and old friends, Sam Bradley and Marcus Foster, whom I met at the Troubadour Club in London last May. Therefore, Robert for me is, first of all, a person of flesh and blood, an extraordinary personality with whom it is interesting to communicate, a talented musician and actor with an unconventional approach to choosing roles in films, and only secondly, a world celebrity. When I first saw him a couple of meters away from me at the LGJ show in Cannes in 2012, I experienced a feeling of real love, because this young man turned out to be incredibly charismatic, kind, friendly with others, smiling, graceful and multifaceted, like the paintings of my loved ones impressionists. Then I really didn’t notice much, because emotions were seething in my soul. But now, after two years, I look at him as if he were an old acquaintance and see cute wrinkles on his face, freckles on his nose, fatigue in his eyes, a slightly curved line of slender legs, thinness, haircut flaws, etc. The excitement has long gone into past, but the joy of meeting Rob and the delight of his work in cinema still fills my life with bright emotions.

Question: Is there a lot of Rob in the film and is it possible to watch the original for those who do not know English well?

Answer: I don't know which film you had in mind. But, I watched both of his new works, so I can safely say that even with poor knowledge of English, it’s worth watching them in the original. Both films are accessible. In Maps, Rob is not much in the frame; all scenes with his participation, with the exception of one, were included in the official trailer. They just last longer. And the role of Ray allowed Robert to use a lot of screen time. And this is his best film work to date.

Question: How sorry is it for Ray? Right to tears? Exactly for you. Personally.

Editor's note. Because The answer to this question contains spoilers, we have added it to the Q&A thread on the forum. ATTENTION! Anyone who does not want to know the content of the film and its ending is not recommended to read the answer to this question!

Question: Did his bare ankles look good *a la naturel*?

Answer: They, like the narrow wrists on his hands, are incredibly graceful. And in the rays of the setting sun, which illuminated the Croazette, they looked very appropriate.

Question: Did you like Michaud in appearance? He seemed very good to me.

Answer: I liked David as a director after his film “By the Laws of the Wolf.” And after watching “The Rover,” I expressed to him my sincere admiration for his work and the amazing soundtrack. And she also thanked him for the fact that he, like Cronenberg, gave Rob a chance to show his talent by inviting Ray to play the role. He looked pretty cute in a tuxedo, but jeans and T-shirts suit him better. But personally, I liked him as a person who knows how to empathize with his friends. After reading his letter, I was even more happy for Rob, who increasingly meets very good people along the way.

Letter from Michaud:

Question: Did you see Sarah with him, or Sarah alone, or Sarah with anyone? Tell me something about her character.

Answer: I saw Sarah several times, including with Rob on the LGJ show in 2012. She is very graceful and beautiful. But, I didn’t talk to her, so I can’t draw any conclusions about her character just from visual perception.

Thanks to all the authors of the questions, and, of course, many thanks to our Marisha - [email protected] for such detailed, detailed answers. Thank you for sharing your emotions with us! We really appreciate it!

A road movie with ironic darkness...

Robert Pattinson: I'm not confident enough to play a superhero

Directors Ben and Josh Safdie were the youngest entrants to this year's Cannes Film Festival with a film very different from the typical Hollywood production - notably the teen vampire series Twilight, which brought fame to Robert Pattinson. After the premiere of this energetic crime drama, critics immediately began to say that Pattinson played the best role of his life in it. Let's hope Pattinson's roles don't end there, but he's truly convincing as a bank robber whose carefree lifestyle doesn't stop him from touchingly caring for his younger brother, who suffers from mental development problems.

“It feels like you’re trying to disown the teen idol fame that Twilight brought.”

“I’m trying to find films for myself that it’s difficult for the public to expect from me. The Safdie brothers create characters that you seem to really like, that attract you, only then it turns out that they are monsters and belong in a mental hospital. Like, for example, my hero Connie. They know how to manipulate the viewer - the development of events in this film is difficult to predict. My character loves his brother very much, but it's some kind of twisted, toxic form of love. Now I'm trying to choose such unpredictable roles for myself. I don't remember the last time I watched a commercial movie and it inspired me. Although some films about comic book superheroes seem to be okay.

“But you’re in no hurry to star in them yourself.”

“I’m just not confident enough in myself.” To play a superhero, you need inner confidence that I myself am something like that. Ready to save the world. But I’m rather ready to do the opposite! I knew from the very beginning that we would be filming Good Time on real streets, with non-professional actors - and therefore I made sure that no one could suspect me of acting, so that no one would even understand that we were making a movie. At the beginning of filming in test mode, we tried to film a scene in which I work at a car wash. They filmed it from the opposite side of the street, there weren’t a lot of makeup artists or other members of the group around, and as a result, no one suspected anything. And on the last day we were filming in a high-rise building in Brooklyn, and because of my security guards, people got wind of something, although they didn’t know exactly what was being filmed and who. In fact, someone did notice me leaving the elevator with the guards. He comes up to me and says: “Yo, you must be Bradley Cooper’s security guard?” I, of course, said that it was so. When someone looks you straight in the face and doesn't recognize you, that's cool.

— Does this mean that the time when people recognized you from “Twilight” has passed?

— I don’t know, I like the idea that these films still live their own lives, still surprise the viewer. It's inevitable that all my roles are still compared to this one. I don't think I need to necessarily shake it off. She gives me some of her energy.

PRIVATE BUSSINESS

Robert PATTINSON was born on May 13, 1986 in London. His father worked in used cars, his mother worked in a modeling agency. At the age of 15 he began acting in amateur theater. Pattinson's first film role was that of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005). He reluctantly took part in screen tests for the lead role of young vampire Edward Cullen in the film Twilight. This film, along with its sequels, made him one of the highest paid actors in Hollywood. The fee for the first "Twilight" was "only" $2 million, for the subsequent ones - 12 million and a percentage of the box office receipts. He dated actress Kristen Stewart, his co-star in Twilight. He is currently engaged to singer Barnett (stage name: FKA twigs).

Paris Hilton is a longtime contact lens fan. Few people can remember the true color of the socialite's eyes. In fact, Hilton has naturally brown eyes, but she prefers blue ones. Recently, the Hollywood beauty posted a photo of herself on social media from 15 years ago, in which she has dark eye color, but in most other photos she has blue or light blue eyes. For what reason does she prefer this particular color? Hilton has never publicly said that she has been wearing contact lenses for a long time. In fact, experts suggest that this is due to myopia.

Robert Pattinson is one of the famous actors who tried wearing colored contact lenses not for fun. The actor tried them on for his role in Twilight. Since Robert played a vampire, he had to change his eye color several times. Pattinson wore amber, red and black lenses. In an interview, he admitted that this caused him discomfort: “In the mornings I had to ask the film crew for help, because I couldn’t insert them on my own.
