Childhood and family of Marat Safin
Marat was born in Moscow.
In the family where Marat was born, he could not help but become a tennis player. His mother was one of the best tennis players in the USSR. She, having left big sports, became a coach at the Spartak club. Marat's dad was the director of the same club. The boy’s mother went to work very early after his birth. She took Marat with her. He grew up surrounded by athletes, balls and rackets. It is not surprising that he picked up a racket very early. His mother was more than once surprised at how easy it was for her son to play tennis at the initial stage of his sports career. It seemed that he knew how to hold a racket in his hands from birth.
Marat Safin and non-tennis jokes, humor jokes laughter Despite the apparent ease, Marat himself did not want to play tennis, the little boy dreamed of football. However, he continued training, yielding to his mother, who persuaded him not to leave tennis. As soon as my son turned six, his mother became his first coach and took him seriously.
As a boy, the aspiring athlete was one of the three best tennis players of his age in the entire Union. At an early age, he was among those who went to America to Cincinnati to attend a tennis academy. Nine-year-old Anna Kournikova also went there with him. It should be noted that she managed to show excellent results and remained in the USA. Marat failed to prove himself, so he returned to Moscow.
Marat's mother continued to train her son. In the early nineties, a talented boy did not have the opportunity to receive adequate training in dilapidated sports schools. His mother and part-time personal trainer managed to obtain a special grant for her son from a Swiss bank in 1994, which made it possible for Marat to study and train abroad.
Marat Safin - successful tennis player
Marat went to Valencia, where he trained at the Pancho Alvarin Tennis Academy. The young athlete was only fourteen years old; he did not know Spanish. In Valencia he had to live an independent life. He rented an apartment and lived on sixty dollars a month. It was not easy, he learned to be disciplined and passed all the tests.
Tennis player Marat Safin: “I’m searching. Permanent"
Still, Marat Safin is a unique person. Even having lost his high place in the rankings due to a serious injury, the former world number one continues to arouse great interest among organizers and fans. At the Kremlin Cup, which is taking place these days in Moscow, he is generally the main star. Safin does not tolerate routine, he is always sincere - in actions, thoughts, words. Izvestia correspondent Maria Kuznetsova was convinced of this when she met the tennis player on the sidelines of the tournament.
“When people have nothing to say, they pester you with advice.”
question : I'll start with the unexpected. What thoughts did you wake up with today?
answer : In my opinion, I didn’t have any thoughts at all. Because everything is already automatic: you train, you play. Mechanically I got up, washed myself, and drove off. Boring... (winces).
Q : Are you making plans?
o : Never. Still nothing happens after that. Especially here, at the tournament. The day is already scheduled minute by minute until the evening. I can only plan where to have dinner.
Q : Does this annoy you?
A : Yes, no, I just don’t like it. I want something new and interesting.
Q : Then what pisses you off?
o : It infuriates me when they say: Marat, you are a talented tennis player, but you need to train more. As a rule, this is said by people who know little and have an indirect relationship with tennis. They have nothing to say, so they give advice.
Q : Does your new coach, Argentinean Hernan Gami, give you any advice?
o : You see, in every career there are several stages - the beginning, the middle, the end. In the debut you need to train more, work on something all the time, improve... And at 25 years old it’s already difficult to change something. I am already an accomplished tennis player, and I need a coach who understands this. He can put pressure somewhere, but he must also let go somewhere.
Q : Is Gami like this?
A : He is very calm. The main thing is that he transfers this calmness to the court. And I didn’t bring any fuss, otherwise I might get mad too.
Q : How is this expressed?
A : I can, for example, break a racket. Or send everyone to... Well, you know how people swear here. You probably heard the builders?
in : I heard. What else pisses you off?
o : Phone calls. Because if they call, it means they need something. I don't like picking up the phone. But if you don’t answer, people start to get angry. He asks a lot of questions: why didn’t he call back, what happened. This is what irritates me the most.
Q: Who are your friends?
A : Good question... Almost all of them are engaged in business. There are truth and artists. Different people who have lived a lot and have a lot of life experience.
Q : Who is Shamil Tarpishchev for you?
o : Tarpishchev?.. Shama... A brilliant coach and a person who copes wonderfully with situations. He reads people well, expresses his thoughts accurately, and has a wealth of experience. He sees right through a person—it’s enough to sit and talk for two minutes. I have great respect for him.
“I remember the past so as not to soar in the clouds”
Q : Comparing your interviews - old and current - you understand how much calmer and wiser you have become. Do you think about yourself a lot?
o : It depends what you put into this phrase. I think about it, but I'm not a narcissist (laughs). It’s important not to focus on yourself. But at the same time you need to love yourself. If you can't love yourself, what can we say about others? But close friends and family really need our attention.
Q : And what do you think about your life?
A : Any person tries to figure out where he will be in five years. He sets goals for himself, because it is very difficult to live without them. Someone strives to go to one institute, then to another. Another is stressed at work, making a career. The third one just sits in traffic jams all day long. And then, at the age of fifty, he realizes that he hasn’t really done anything. I was fussing, but for what...
Q : What about you?
A : I'm still searching. Permanent.
Q : You sound like a philosopher. Or a priest...
A : No, I don’t read the Bible.
Q : What are you reading?
about : From the last one - “One Hundred Years of Solitude” by Marquez.
Q : I didn’t think you liked such authors.
o : What's wrong with that? It’s boring to read classics all the time; I want variety. So you take modern literature or something philosophical.
Q : What is wealth for you?
about : Years passed. Personally, I don’t need crazy money, a dacha on Rublyovka, a villa on the Cote d’Azur. In general, material values. For me, wealth is a life experience.
Q : In one of your interviews I read: I was very lucky in life because I came out of poverty...
o : It’s not true, I didn’t say that. I grew up on VDNKh - this is far from the worst district of Moscow. It's just that the situation my family was in wasn't great. The four of us lived twenty meters away. I understand that some people had it worse... But the prospect of playing tennis and achieving something serious was not at all bright for me. That's why I say: I've been lucky in life. There was a person who gave money for my trip to Spain. Big money, 300 thousand dollars. Can you imagine what 300 thousand meant in 1994?! It was simply an exorbitant amount. And I am still very grateful to this sponsor.
Q : Do you often remember the past? And for what?
A : I remember from time to time. And for what?... So as not to lose a sense of reality. You start to soar in the clouds even for a minute, and then - suddenly, a memory from childhood. Drops to the ground instantly. For example, you go to a supermarket. You see an abundance of all sorts of delicious things there, and you immediately remember how you once stood in line with coupons for sugar. You know, you immediately begin to appreciate everything about life today.
Q : Did these memories become an additional incentive to achieve success?
O , sure. Otherwise, what would I have become if I had not made it to the elite? Trainer with a maximum salary of $15 per hour. This money will still be enough for yourself, but it’s unlikely to be enough for your family. For a car and an apartment - definitely not. And what? I am not happy with such a hopeless life.
“I wear $20 pants.”
Q : You are considered one of the most eligible bachelors in the country. By what parameters do you choose girls?
A : Absolutely the same as you - us. I look at the face and a little lower.
Q: What do you value in the opposite sex?
o : Individuality. Character is also important.
Q : How do you feel about marriage?
o : Positive. But only after the birth of children. When you live with a person for 15 years, you begin to understand whether you really love him.
Q : And not before?
A : At the very beginning, love is a disease. Stormy, feverish. Then it develops into respect, without which long-term coexistence between two people is impossible. Or, on the contrary, it does not outgrow. So, to understand this, it takes time.
Q : Do you follow fashion?
Oh no. I don't wear Versace, I don't have Dolce and Gabbana or Cavalli jeans. I don't chase the latest innovations - I just don't need it. I don't try to prove anything to anyone. No one, and why?
Q : But you like to dress beautifully?
o : Look, I'm wearing jeans that I bought in the States at a discount for $20. White socks that don’t fit into this setting at all. Slippers that are older than me. And a torn T-shirt.
Q : What about the Rolex on your hand?
o : (laughs) Oh, so this is for free. I advertise them.
Q : But you won’t deny your passion for cars?
o : Yes (smiles). I like to sit comfortably.
Q : Which do you prefer?
A : I now have two cars - a Mercedes and a Porsche. One was given to me, the second I bought myself.
in : Quite expensive means of transportation...
o : But I’m telling you, one was given as a gift. And the other one was purchased at a big discount, about 50%. One friend sold it. You have to have rich friends with cars (laughs). As the great Ostap Bender said, a car is not a luxury, it is a means of transportation.

On Tuesday, in the first round match, Safin defeated Denis Matsukevich, who made it into the main draw through qualification. The result of the match is 7:6 (7:2), 7:5. And at midnight it became known that Dmitry Tursunov beat Mikhail Zverev, playing for Germany, in three sets with a score of 6:4, 3:6, 6:4.
The beginning of Marat Safin's sports career
Marat's career began in 1997, when he went to a tournament in Espino.
There he found himself among the tennis players ranked in the second and third hundred of the world rankings. This start ended in victory for Safin, and a convincing one at that. This was followed by the Kremlin Cup, where Marat lost. However, this loss began a winning streak. Thus, having started 1998 as the 204th player in the ranking, he finished 48th. Many famous athletes had to be nervous when meeting on the courts with a budding star. In a short time, he began to be considered not only the hope of domestic tennis, but also the tennis hope of the whole world.
The rise of Marat Safin's career
By 2000, Marat had become a tennis player who had no equal in the whole world.
Despite the fact that his successes were very significant, he was not able to conquer the Grand Slam tournament. Marat Safin: Showdown with Bondarchuk's son (archive 2009) At the American Open, to the surprise of the Americans, he managed to beat Pete Sampras at the age of twenty. So he became the first racket of the world. He was predicted to have a brilliant career, but this was not destined to come true. The athlete was distinguished by his inconstancy. So, at the end of 2000, he was no longer the first racket of the world, giving way to Gustav Kuerten. In addition to the fact that Marat was mentally unstable, he was simply plagued by injuries that knocked him out of the training process and performance schedule. Although he was among the leaders of world tennis, Safin still did not reach the first line. But in the Russian national team this tennis player always showed himself exclusively as a true captain. The Russian team won the Davis Cup in 2002, and the main contribution to this victory was made by Safin.
Our talents. Photographer Marat Safin
Today the hero of our column is photographer Marat Safin, a former student of Moscow Energy University. The 21-year-old guy holds his own photo exhibitions in the capital and plans to hold them in other cities in Russia and the CIS. He already has more than 22 thousand subscribers on VKontakte, and their number is constantly growing. Marat conducts popular master classes in different cities of Russia. The young artist’s photographs were published in several issues of Digital foto magazine.

During his student years, Marat managed to be a goth and filmed in cemeteries. I “had time to visit” because I soon left the university to devote myself entirely to photography. The photographer took the first pictures for boxes of Raffaello chocolates.
— How did the story of your career begin?
— I bought a camera and immediately became interested. At first I found VKontakte models myself, now they find me.
— What is your favorite genre?
- Portrait. I'm interested in people, I like photographing them.
— Would you like to learn another profession?
— I would be interested in trying myself as a cinematographer.
— Let's talk about photographs. What do you think attracts viewers to your work?
“Apparently, they are pleasing to the eye, but I don’t shoot anything shocking.” I take photographs in such a way that they are pleasant to look at. Everything is to taste.
— Do you think shooting to order is worthy of a free artist or not?
“I wonder what kind of money his family will live on then if his pride considers it unworthy of “his royal majesty”? First of all, I am a man, the head of the family, and then everything else. This is my profession and main occupation.
— Do you take on all orders or do you refuse at some point?
— I refuse when I don't want to photograph a person. If I don’t like a person, I won’t undertake to photograph him.
— When photographing, do you improvise more or do you have a pre-prepared shooting plan?
—It’s always improvisation, it’s impossible to calculate everything in your head in advance.
— What is important when preparing for shooting - the situation, the weather, the sensations?
-The most suitable environment is one with fewer people. The weather is when it’s warm and dry, when I’m full and happy. Mood, of course, also has a big impact. How do I prepare? I'm packing my backpack.
— A bit of self-promotion What kind of photography services do you offer, where can I see my work?
-I do street photography, studio photography, indoor photography, wedding photography. I shoot in different genres: classic, artistic, psychological portrait, fashion portrait, nude art, photo art and others. The shooting location and images are discussed individually. The shooting lasts 2 hours. As a result, you receive 10 processed photographs on disk 15-20 days after the shooting. I DO NOT do: photographing musical groups; filming in cafes, restaurants, clubs; photographing individual objects, clothing, accessories, premises; filming a “love story”. The works can be viewed on the official VKontakte page: https://vk.com/marat13th
— What advice can you give to aspiring photographers?
- Shoot every day. In a year you will understand whether you need it or not.
Triumphs and failures of tennis player Marat Safin
Highs in a tennis player's career have always been followed by lows, often due to injuries. So in 2003, after a wrist injury, Marat missed almost the entire year, and in 2004 he already appeared before the fans in his previous form.
There are many rumors about the personal life of tennis player Marat Safin: he often changed girls
The culmination of his career came when Safin was almost twenty-five years old. In Australia at the Open, he defeated Roger Federer and beat Lleyton Hewitt in the final. The tennis shown by Safin was outstanding.
In 2005, he became fiftieth, and in 2006 he was already in one hundred and fourth place. Marat had no more victories in singles. Safin's last season was 2009, according to the results of which the athlete ended up in twenty-fourth place in the world rankings.
The tennis player ended his career and played his last match on November 11, 2009 in France. At this match, fourteen thousand people said goodbye to the tennis player.
Highlights of the sports biography of Marat Safin
In 1999, the nineteen-year-old tennis player won his first ATP title (Boston), and at the end of the year he reached the Masters final (Paris) for the first time in his life, in which he lost to Andre Agassi. The Russian made a real breakthrough the following year, 2000, when he chalked up six ATP titles (including the Masters in Toronto and Paris) and won the first US Open in his career. In the semi-finals, Marat Safin, whose height is 193 centimeters, managed to break the resistance of the American giant Todd Martin, and in the final he surprisingly easily dealt with Pete Sampras.
In addition, in 2000, the Russian topped the ATP rankings for two weeks. He was number one twice more (for three and four weeks) in 2001, but overall the season was significantly less successful than the previous one (largely due to an injury received at a tournament in Dubai). However, Marat Safin still managed to win two trophies in 2001: in Tashkent and St. Petersburg.
The beginning of 2002 was promising: the Russian reached the final of the Australian Open, only losing in four sets to Thomas Johansson in the final. Subsequently, the season was not very successful, and only at the end of October Marat managed to take his second title at the Masters in Paris. Following this, he won his first Davis Cup as part of the Russian national team.
The following year, Marat Safin, whose biography includes both sharp ups and sudden downs, was unable to count as an asset, primarily due to injury. Without winning a single tournament, he finished the season in 77th position in the ranking. In 2004, Safin again reached the final of the Australian Open, eliminating Roddick and Agassi from his path, but in the decisive match he again lost, this time to Roger Federer. Subsequently, the season turned out quite successfully: the Russian won two Masters (in Madrid and Paris), as well as a major tournament in Beijing.
The beginning of 2005 was marked for Marat Mumbinovich Safin with a long-awaited victory at the Australian Open, in the decisive match of which he beat Lleyton Hewitt in four sets. However, as it turned out later, this triumph was the beginning of the end, because Marat did not manage to win a single trophy in singles. Both the numerous injuries that constantly plagued the athlete and his instability are to blame for this.
In 2006, he and the Russian team won the Davis Cup for the second time, defeating the French in the final, and in 2009 he retired, losing to Juan Martin del Potro in the final match at his favorite Paris Masters in three sets.

Personal life of Marat Safin
Marat's first serious romantic relationship arose in Spain.
The girl's name was Sylvia. She attended all his practices and tournaments, sat in the stands and cheered for her lover. Marat Safin - farewell ceremony However, this relationship ended as soon as the tennis player climbed to Olympus. He dated Ekaterina Bestuzheva for almost a year, but all this time they were, one might say, in an open relationship without obligations. In 2004, Safin began a serious romance. The chosen one was Daria Zhukova. Time passed, and the girl left him. After this, the tennis player had a series of often starting and quickly ending frivolous novels. Among his passions were Elena Korikova, Alisa Seleznyova, Jessica Biel, Nastya Osipova.
It is known that the tennis player has an illegitimate daughter, Eva. He had a short affair with her mother, Valeria; she found out about the pregnancy after she broke up with Marat. The child’s father allocates a certain amount every month for Eva’s upbringing, and sees her no more than once every six months.
Who do you trust more?
Photographer Marat Safin responded to the accusations of activist and model Victoria Guivik, who a few days ago published a post where she stated that Marat raped her during a nude photo shoot in Voronezh.
Safin waited a few days and posted a huge post on Instagram, where, in turn, he accused Guivik of slander and lies. According to the photographer, there was indeed alcohol (wine) present during the filming, but Marat did not force Victoria to get drunk. “I won’t deny that we had sex, but it was consensual sex. I didn’t shout, I didn’t threaten, I didn’t raise my hand, I didn’t blackmail, I didn’t tie up, I didn’t hold against my will, I didn’t shut my mouth, I didn’t rape.
Victoria took the initiative, responded to kisses, and helped me undress. I remember her words when we had sex. She asked: “Are you sure you want this?” I answered: “Yes,” writes Safin.

I think many people already know that I was accused of rape. Not officially, without contacting law enforcement agencies, but on Instagram, verbally. Victoria Guivik, a citizen of Ukraine, claims that 3.5 years ago I raped her on a set. She posted about this on her account, after which questions, insults, threats began to pour in towards me, my girlfriend, ex-wife, models, my friends, relatives, the media, online magazines and so on began to mention me. I have never experienced such horror. ⠀ Continuation in the post gallery, scroll through.

Then, as proof that there was no rape, Marat attached a screenshot of correspondence with Guivik the day after the photo shoot. Here they communicate quite nicely - there is no hint of the stressful situation that supposedly happened a little earlier.
“It’s also terrible that she (Guivik) is taking away the chance for justice from victims of real rapes. Because the more people shamelessly profit from the topic of rape, the less people will take this topic seriously. I will only post this post. I’m sure that this will be discussed further and creep out even more in the media, but I don’t want to make any public statements anymore,” Safin concluded.
first I ask the woman if she is ready for sex, if she wants sex, if she wants sex specifically with me, or if she wants abstract sex, etc.. when she answers yes to everything, I say, now you ask me, and if I answer affirmative, sex begins
— Yuri Kaplan (@yurakaplan) December 14, 2019
Victoria, a few hours before Marat’s statement, posted her post where she thanked other activists for their support and did not express any regrets about starting this controversial scandal in the first place. The comments under the post were mostly negative - as a result, Guivik had to close them.
What’s also interesting is that Victoria attached new screenshots of Marat’s correspondence with other “victims” and stories of other girls who could have suffered from the photographer to the post. The most relish is the story of a certain Anastasia, where the phrase “Even if it’s a fake, then it serves him right.” After this, every neutral person will want to side with Safin, right?
- Dudya was called an average sexist because of the release with Dolgopolov. The show “The Gentle Editor” was also a hit.
