Childhood
Roman Kapakly was born and raised in St. Petersburg. Little is known about the parents: the mother’s name is Praskovya, she is Gagauzian (an ethnic group living in Moldova), the father is not mentioned at all. From an early age the boy was actively involved in sports. At first it was wrestling, then athletics, later taekwondo and even tennis.
