Actress Tatyana Cherdyntseva: I was a student of Messing

Actress Tatyana Cherdyntseva: I was a student of MessingPhoto from the personal archive of the actress Tatyana Cherdyntseva was born in Minsk.
She has almost 90 film roles. The viewer knows the actress from her roles in such films and TV series as “Death to Spies. Operation “Shock Wave”, “Traces of the Apostles”, “Red Dog”, “Hunt for the Gauleiter”, “Vangelia”, “You Can’t Invent It on Purpose”, “Happy Chance”, “In the Constellation Sagittarius”, “Traces on the Water”, “ Arena for Murder”, “Birch”, “House with Black Cats”, “At a Distant Outpost”, “Weighty Feeling”, “Thin Ice”, etc. Now on Channel One there is a screening of the series “Messing’s Student”, where Tatyana Cherdyntseva plays main role. — Tatyana, at the beginning of your career you filmed a lot in your homeland, Belarus. What is happening to Belarusian cinema now? Does it exist at all?

— As far as I know, full-length films and TV series are shot at Belarusfilm several times a year. Of course, I would like to see more films being made, and if they could also be sold to Russia and the CIS countries, Belarusian films could well be successful there too. There are many talented directors and wonderful artists in Belarus. Last year, for the first time in 22 years, the film “Crystal” directed by Daria Zhuk went to the Oscars from Belarus.

— You are young, but you have already played almost 90 roles in films. Are you a workaholic?

- In general, I’m a terrible lazy person. The acting profession for me is not a job, it is a necessity. Like food or sleep. I love to cook and eat delicious and high-quality food. It’s the same in the profession. If you approach it in the same way, the result will be the same. I like to experiment and try to constantly learn.

Support the publication

— In the TV series “Vangelia” you played a journalist. Do you believe in Vanga's prophecies? Do you generally believe in any paranormal phenomena?

— I believe that there is energy, it is not good or bad. There are just people who are more sensitive to things. Some people have sharp eyesight. Someone has good hearing. And some people have sensitive perceptions. Any ability can be trained.

— Do you have developed intuition?

I probably make most of the decisions in my life intuitively. As soon as I start using logic, nothing good comes out of it.

— Did any extreme situations happen to you while filming?

“Three years ago, during the filming of one of the scenes, a car was supposed to pass me, but in the end it hit me. I got injured. Everything worked out, I was reinstated. Moreover, the film was completed.

- You can't see anything. It’s as if there was no accident!

Thank you. Excellent doctors. Interestingly, all my injuries only happen on film sets. Nothing like this has ever happened to me in my life. One day, according to the plot of the film, fireworks were set off. They acted strictly according to safety rules and stood at the required distance. And it was I who had an ember from this firework fall directly onto my varnished hairstyle. As you can see, the hair is in place.

— Do you have any tattoos or piercings on your body?

- No, I didn’t do anything like that. Because at the age of 13 I decided to become an actress. How to play Chekhov's Nina Zarechnaya if you have a tattoo on your arm?

— What did you study for this or that role?

— I did horse riding for the filming of one film. I have developed a wonderful relationship with horses. In general, I love animals – all of them. I entered a tiger’s cage on the set of the film “The Killing Arena,” where I played a circus gymnast. I wasn't the least bit afraid. For this same painting I had to learn to perform some tricks on the canvases. More complex elements under the dome, of course, were performed by professional gymnasts.

The film was shot in the St. Petersburg circus. It was interesting. I even got to kiss a python’s nose. I also remembered the incident with the horse. There was a huge, gorgeous black horse in the circus. Circus people ride it and perform all the tricks without a saddle. There is a completely different landing there. Remember the movie "Avatar"? It's like you're connecting to the spine of this mighty animal. And you must guide him not so much with the reins as with your body. You simply become one with this animal. It wasn’t easy, but when it works, it’s such a thrill! Now I have been studying ballet for more than three months. Started for the role. And I got carried away.

— In the film “All the Treasures of the World” you played a saleswoman in an antique store. Do you have any antique item that was passed on to you by inheritance?

— I have earrings that belonged to my great-grandmother, and they were passed down to her from her great-grandmother. There's cubic zirconia in there and these earrings are very well made. Sometimes I wear them.

— What genres of cinema do you like?

— I love psychological thrillers and auteur cinema. And I myself love to play something so “unpleasant”. I also love good comedies. I really like English humor . I like everything unexpected and unconventional. We filmed the pilot of the film in Minsk, variations on the theme of Princess Olga. I played Olga. And in a dream, Olga comes to the main character in the form of the goddess Hecate. It turned out to be a terrible creature. They inserted white lenses into my face, whitening my face and deepening my eyes. The image was not a pleasant one, but there you could have a blast and scare your colleagues.

— Which of the venerable actors did you act with? What did they impress you with, what did they teach you?

— In the series “Birch” I watched how Mikhail Efremov worked. It was impossible to take my eyes off how he existed in this process. I also starred in “Messing’s Apprentice” with Yuri Belyaev, who played Wolf Messing. Our acquaintance began with such a conversation. He asks me: “Why did you come into the profession?” I answer from afar: they say, from the age of 6 I studied at the Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater. “What were you singing there?” - “Yes” - “Why didn’t you go further with vocals?” “I found dramatic theater art more interesting.” And Belyaev says: “No, you didn’t go for vocals, because there you have to work, work hard. And here you can play around”... He treats the acting profession with humor, but he always works very seriously and professionally.

- What is your voice like?

- Soprano. First, second.

— What roles did you sing at the opera house?

— In the musical “Peter Pan” I played the role of Wendy, in the opera “Puss in Boots” I played the Princess. She began playing these roles at the age of 13. And she studied at the children's musical theater studio at the Minsk Bolshoi Theater from the age of six.

— You act a lot in melodramas. Why is this genre so popular in Russia?

“It seems to me that our man’s soul is asking for experiences. We are very sympathetic people, empathetic. Always ready to help someone. We have such a common feeling of family. Man is man's friend and brother. The sense of community fostered over the years remains, and that may be why we love melodrama.

— What interested you in the role in the series “The House with Black Cats”?

— There is mysticism there, I find it interesting. Mysticism, thrillers, detective stories - all this is close to me. My heroine in this story transforms, reincarnates, tries on several images. This really fascinated me! And it was a pleasure to work with the director. Igor Nurislamov is a very deep, subtle director and works great with actors.

— Who do you like among Western actresses?

- Meryl Streep. She's wonderful! If you watch all her films from beginning to end, and I did, you can see how brilliantly she worked and developed as an actress. The strip is so amazingly different that I can stare at it for hours and not get tired of it.

— In Russia, like everywhere else in the world, there is a market for actors. So you can name your price, right?

— There is a film market. There is competition, there are different fees for actors. I am not able to voice my conditions due to confidentiality agreements. But I can say that the price depends on the scale of the project, on how significant this role is. There are major projects, there are pilot episodes, there are short films. I get great pleasure from working with students. There is an opportunity to create without restrictions.

Films and TV series

Thanks to her first roles, Tatyana Cherdyntseva attracted the attention of directors. Films and TV series with her participation were released more and more often. The actress brilliantly played the heroic radio operator Lisa Kotova in the mini-series “Death to Spies: Shock Wave.” This was followed by the role of the eccentric daughter of a wealthy businessman Lera in the melodrama “I Blinded Him.” The actress's heroine is going to marry an ordinary programmer Grisha. However, parents don’t even want to hear about unequal marriage.

The actress played one of the key roles in the adventure series “Traces of the Apostles.” Its heroine is student Alevtina, who, during the summer holidays, is on the trail of an ancient treasury. In “The Red Queen,” Cherdyntseva brilliantly embodied the image of the circus performer Eli. In the series “My Someone Else’s Child,” Tatyana plays the role of a prudent and enterprising real estate agent. She played a theater administrator in “Undiscovered Talent.”

Movies

The actress calls her first memorable role the role of a nurse in the adventure film “Save or Destroy” about a group of intelligence officers searching for Stalin’s son, Yakov Dzhugashvili, who was captured. Tatiana had to speak in German. Then Cherdyntseva starred in episodes of the melodramas “There Is Happiness” and “Waiting for Love,” the mystical thriller “Navigator,” and the crime film “Family Detective.” For the most part, she appeared on screen for a short time, although she managed to intrigue the viewer in a few short minutes. The girl played her first major role in her creative biography in the short film “Strokes of Autumn”, where she played the heroine Kira. The film received the Grand Prix of the V Minsk Open Student Film and Video Festival.

Tatyana gained popularity in 2012, when she again participated in a large number of TV series and films of Belarusian and Russian production. But now the actress gets the main characters, and she does the job perfectly.

“It’s difficult to choose a favorite among my roles—all are equally precious. I try to put my soul into working on each character. And, of course, I look for and cultivate the qualities of my heroines, study a large amount of material about the character from history - all this helps to create full-fledged, living images.”

In the melodrama “I Blinded Him,” Cherdyntseva transforms into the heroine Lera, an eccentric person, the daughter of an influential entrepreneur. The girl can’t wait to marry a simple programmer Grisha (Sergei Mukhin), but her father speaks out against an unequal marriage. In the film “The Heart is Not a Stone,” the actress appears before the audience in the role of Rita. The melodrama is about a simple village resident, Antonina (Glafira Tarkhanova), who falls in love with the son of the new chairman, Peter (Anatoly Rudenko), but the young people face trials.

In the military-historical drama “Death to Spies: Shock Wave,” Tatyana embodies on the screen the image of radio operator Liza Kotova, who is destined to become a hero of the Great Patriotic War. The actress plays diverse roles in the TV series “The Golden Scissors,” where Cherdyntseva plays the bartender Ekaterina, “The Other Side of the Moon,” in which she transforms into a Soviet-era hairdresser, and “The Hunt for the Gauleiter,” where she stars as an enthusiastic Komsomol member.

Subsequent events confirmed this opinion. In almost all films with the participation of Tatyana Cherdyntseva, her performance was impeccable, and the melodrama “Perfumeress”, the comedy “Happy March 8, men!”, the drama “My Close Enemy” and the romantic series “Fortune Cookie” were remembered by movie lovers for a long time.

In March 2020, Alena Semenova’s new biographical film “The Red Queen” about the life of the famous Soviet fashion model Regina Zbarskaya was released on Russian screens. In this serial film, Tatyana played the circus performer Elya. The girl managed to brilliantly bring the image to life thanks to her miniature figure (Tatiana’s height is 160 cm and her weight is 45 kg) and artistic talent.

A similar role - that of a circus illusionist - went to Cherdyntseva in the detective story "Arena for Murder." Her character is a suspect in the murder of her trainer husband.

Every year Tatyana Cherdyntseva appears in 4-5 films. In 2016, she starred in a detective story based on Tatyana Polyakova’s novel “Get Married at Any Cost” about a girl Irina (Natalia Zemtsova), who, on the eve of her wedding, wakes up in the same bed with a stranger, and finds the woman’s corpse in the kitchen of an unknown apartment. Cherdyntseva in the film transformed into the heroine Olga.

An interesting project for Cherdyntseva turned out to be the detective series “Undiscovered Talent”, where the actress played the role of theater administrator Ekaterina. The film is about a provincial theater group, where a new director (Yuri Baturin) comes to work. At the same time, a murderous maniac appears in the city. The investigation, led by investigator Butko (Nikolai Ivanov), is joined by the theater's prima Marina Maiskaya (Alexandra Ursulyak).
