Almost his entire professional career is associated with Bayern Munich, a team that won the German championship twenty-three times. Today the name of Thomas Müller is known in all corners of the Earth. He is fast, strong and incredibly effective. His playing style is seemingly simple, but it is this deliberate carelessness that often lulls defenders into making fatal mistakes during football matches. Thomas Müller is a player from God. And no one doubts this fact anymore. But what kind of person is the Germany attacking midfielder off the football field? We will try to understand this issue today.

Later years

Footballer Thomas Müller established himself in the starting lineup already in the 2009/10 season. He played a vital role in the attack. He started scoring his first goals in September. Having performed well in the fall and winter, the striker extended his contract with Bayern until 2014.

The best day for him was the first of May - then Thomas scored his first hat-trick, thereby ensuring the team a victory in the match with Bochum with a score of 3:1. Of course, in the Champions League, a striker with such indicators played all his matches (there were 12 of them) in the starting lineup.

At the end of that season, Thomas Müller was included in the list of 23 players who went to the World Cup in South Africa.

One year after another, the striker's performance became better and better. He opened the scoring from the first minutes in the most important matches, gave assists, and took penalties. What is important is that his place in the lineup and positions on the field did not change with the arrival of other coaches.

Perhaps the most striking match was the Champions League final against Borussia. Then footballer Thomas Müller spent the entire 90 minutes on the field and for the first time became the winner of the most prestigious European tournament.

Childhood and early career of football player Thomas Müller

The future footballer of the German national team was born in the small town of Weilheim, located in the western part of Germany. Like many of his peers, the young boy loved to play football and was always distinguished by his excellent skill and high performance. Seeing their son’s passion for game No. 1, the parents sent their son to the sports school of the semi-professional club “TSV Pähl”, which was famous for its ability to raise bright players. It is very noteworthy that the future midfielder of the German national team made his debut as part of this team already in 1993, when he was only four (!) years old.

Footballer Thomas Müller began his football career as a toddler

In the TSV Pähl youth team, Thomas Müller learned the basics of football and developed his innate talent. The player spent seven years in this team, during which he earned fame as one of the most promising players of his generation.

In 2000, the young guy’s play attracted the attention of Bayern Munich scouts, who invited Thomas to continue his studies at their football academy. FC Hollywood, as the Bavarian team is often called, was the young player’s favorite club, and therefore the offer of cooperation was accepted without the slightest hesitation.

Funny moments with Thomas Müller From that moment on, the player’s entire future fate was inextricably linked with one of the best teams in Germany.

Where did the main German football player of our time grow up?

Where did the main German football player of our time grow up?

Match TV visited the home village of Thomas Müller.

Thomas Müller was born and raised in the Bavarian commune of Pel, a German village with a population of about 2,500 people, 50 kilometers away from Munich. These three facts are enough: Pel differs from a million other German luxury villages only in that Thomas can post a photo from here with the hashtag #birthplace.

Luxurious views are sometimes spoiled by not the most luxurious vehicles, which circle at high speed along the main road of Pel. The tractor driver sincerely does not understand why some person walks around with a camera and films his tractor. Such a reaction to a tourist is a normal story for Pel, because there are no tourists here. It's generally difficult to find people here.

This is not an elite cottage community, but an ordinary village with cows, horses, pigs and all the characteristic smells...

...and characteristic sounds in the morning.

Seeing that I was photographing their friend, a whole flock rushed at me. One came very close - at that moment filming had to be stopped immediately.

Now about Mueller. This is the school where Thomas studied.

Muller's parents' house.

On the outskirts of Pel is the sports center where it all began for Müller. In the administrative building, children play mini-football in the hall, and I manage to sneak into the depths. Children's and adult awards from TSV Pähl - Thomas's first team.

On these fields, Müller's children's team once scored 195 goals in a season, and 10-year-old Thomas took part in 120. He was immediately invited to Bayern.

Müller once starred in a scene in a German film, where he served beer to partners dressed as a Bavarian waitress. Now it seems that the wooden window is about to open, and good-natured Thomas will lean out and offer to buy something local.

A terrible word that does not carry much meaning. It only means that the tiles were laid there sometime in 2009.

There's more to Pele than just football.

There is more to Pele than just football [2].

It is possible that Müller trained here to score at least 20 goals per season throughout his life. There are tennis courts behind the scenes, but Thomas has bad associations with tennis. At the 2010 World Cup press conference, Diego Maradona refused to sit next to Muller. He did not recognize him as a player of the German national team and called the forward a ball boy. Thomas left, and then scored against Argentina: with his help, the Germans tore Maradona apart in the quarterfinals - 4:0.

But Müller was always calm about such things. After Manchester United offered Bayern €85 million for the striker, a fan shouted at him: “Hey, 100 million guy, how much is your shirt?” Muller simply found the fan with his eyes, smiled at him and moved on.

Thomas Müller will never win the Ballon d'Or. He is not as flashy and effective as Ronaldo. He is not as cunning and gifted as Messi. He is not arrogant like Suarez, he does not know how to feint like Neymar. He does everything outwardly clumsily and does not stand out in any way. Müller simply reads the game well and is always in the right place, and everyone is accustomed to his stability and goals.

Just as we are accustomed to the atypical image of Müller as a top football player: a kind and unarrogant guy who can be ignored even on these streets where three people walk. By the way, a small bell tower is located next to the school. I even wonder if in Germany there is a phrase that says “teacher bell.”

The perfect tractor for a beauty blogger.

There are also places in Pele that need to be sent for quizzes, where they distinguish the villages of Saransk from the villages of Bavaria. You really can't guess here.

Covered inclined narrow streets also exist where there are no paving stones.

Call StopHam, in Pele they park in the second row.

The only thing that flows quickly in the quiet and calm Pele.

Thomas Müller's career at Bayern Munich

Thomas Müller began his long journey to the status of a real star of the red and burgundy team in 2000 with classes at the FC Hollywood academy.
A few years later, in the mid-2000s, the attacking midfielder began playing for Bayern's reserve team. In this team, Thomas Müller became a real leader, and at the end of the season he became the German Champion among youth teams. This fact attracted the attention of the then Munich coach Felix Magath. It was “at his instigation” that Thomas Müller was transferred to the Bayern reserve team, and then to the main group of players. On August 15, 2007, the attacking midfielder entered the field for the first time in an official Bundesliga (German Championship) match against Hamburg.

The first game was not a failure, but it did not bring much success to Thomas either. A debut game in the Champions League is a completely different matter. In the match against Sporting Lisbon, Muller came on as a substitute, and a few minutes later he scored the decisive goal, thanks to which he became one of the heroes of the match.

At the beginning of 2009, Thomas Müller signed a full contract with Bayern Munich and became a full-fledged player of the club. This fact chronologically coincided with the arrival of a new head coach in Munich - Louis van Gaal. The Dutch coach looked closely at the newcomer for a long time, mostly leaving him on the bench or releasing him during the match. However, in the second half of the season, Thomas Müller became the “iron player” of the main team.

Thomas Müller played for Bayern Munich

The 2009 season made the midfielder a real leader of the club. He scored a lot and gave out assists one after another. The situation repeated itself a year later. Therefore, Thomas Müller’s trip to South Africa as part of the German national team was taken for granted by everyone.

The German team set itself the highest goals, and therefore seriously counted on the star newcomer. And Thomas did not disappoint expectations, becoming one of the brightest players of that tournament. That year, the Bundesmannschaft was unable to climb to the highest step of the podium, but the bronze medals could also be called a worthy achievement. At the African World Cup, the player was able to get his hands on a personal award - the Golden Boot, awarded to the top scorer of the championship.

The player spent the following seasons with Bayern Munich at the highest level. He became one of the team's main players, as well as its unspoken leader. High speed, excellent ability to “read the game”, as well as excellent performance made Thomas Müller the favorite of all fans of the Bavarian team. His career in the German national team was no less successful.

New heights: Germany national team

In 2013, the football player joined the German national team. Thomas' jersey number is 13. At the Nations League, Thomas Müller played his 100th match.

World Cup 2014 and Bayern proves that they can become 4-time world champions. In the qualifying matches, Müller scored only one goal against the Brazilians.

Thanks to the footballer’s scoring hat-trick in the Bayer-Bayern game in the spring of 2020, the Munich team reached the German Cup final.

Unfortunately, Thomas Müller's career quickly ended in the German national team, because the coach already in 2020 decided to update the squad by adding “young blood”.

Start of career at Bayern

Already in the mid-2000s, young Muller began playing for the reserve team. Thomas became a true leader, and showed excellent results. It is not surprising that by the end of the season he won the national youth team title.

Felix Magath, who coached the main team at that time, decided that the talent of the young footballer Thomas Müller should not be lost in the reserve team. It was he who transferred him to the Bayern reserves.

He didn't stay there for long - Thomas soon became part of the main team. His first match took place in 2007, on August 15th. It was a game against Hamburg in the Bundesliga. Then Thomas was brought on as a substitute in the 80th minute.

He had a few more matches that season. He always came on as a substitute; in total, Thomas Müller played 27 minutes.

And the debut in the Champions League took place on March 10. Then Bayern played against Sporting. He came on in the 72nd minute, replacing Schweinsteiger. And in the last, 90th minute, he scored his first goal in European competition. Then, by the way, Bayern won with a score of 7:1.

This topic is worth completing the story about the famous football player. Thomas Müller and his wife (a model named Lisa) are shown in the photo below. Their couple formed a long time ago, back in 2007, and they got married when they were both just over 20 years old.

Together, young people often appear at various events and give joint interviews. They also have a well-known hobby – horse riding. By the way, Thomas became interested in them precisely because of Lisa.

But he has another hobby. This is golf. Müller enjoys playing it so much that he even participated in the Eichenriede tournament, where there were both amateurs and professionals. Everyone speaks admiringly of the football player’s performance. And golfer Maximilian Kieffer even said that the striker’s technique is like that of a pro.

New in MoscowLove and freedom: How the “Muller Machine” by Kirill Serebrennikov works

The play “Quartet” came to me a long time ago. This is the most spectacular thing that can happen: two artists, and nothing else is needed. But at the same time I kept thinking: why isn’t anyone putting it on? And when you start reading, you understand that somewhere in the middle the directors broke down, the actors indignantly threw away these wonderful long roles because they could not understand anything about them, and so it went on for years. In the case of Heiner Müller, we see everything that Russian theater cannot do: the author does not like people, he says to himself: “I am, of course, an optimist, I believe in the Fourth World War,” he writes about sex. It seems to me that these are the only texts that should be put on. The moment you don't understand what to do with this text is when the real work begins.

The choice of actors is justified by certain difficulties: I can’t imagine just actors saying this. From the very beginning it was clear to me that these should be certain characters - bright, recognizable personalities. These people had to not only learn, but understand this text, that is, they also had to be very smart. Many people to whom I gave this to read returned with the words “this is some kind of nonsense.” My task was to make the complex text as understandable as possible, to decipher it, not to play it like a Newtonian binomial, but to find comedy, genre, and paradox in it. Here, the artists are required to have absolute fearlessness and trust in this text and the project as a whole. From the first stage of work on the play, Konstantin Bogomolov remained, and later Sati appeared. To be honest, I don’t even know who could have done this other than them. The first artist who was generally decisive in this sense, Satie turned out to be the same.

Nudity on stage is an incredible problem and a huge issue. You can’t just tell people, “Take off your clothes,” it won’t work. They always say about the Gogol Center: “Oh, there’s swearing and everyone is naked.” The swearing is fine, but where are all the naked people? This did not happen because it is very difficult. It's not about the body and its perfection, but about the head of the actress or actor. If he goes to the theater to close himself off from the world and pretend, then nothing will work: he will evaluate nudity as an encroachment on the most sacred. If a person becomes an actor to understand himself, to check what is in his head, how free and strong he is, then there is a chance. The audience perceives our performance because the actors do not understand that they are naked. If an artist realizes that he is naked, then all spectators will be ashamed. We all know how the human body works. The issue is not anatomy, so psychological work was carried out with the actors: we did not immediately undress, but did it delicately and gradually. The guys overcame the cliches and cliches that a Russian artist cannot be naked on stage, that the human body is a shame, that it is taboo. And why? This is the most beautiful thing there is. The body doesn't lie, the tongue does. The body is the purest thing in a person.

Awards

Thomas Müller, the Bayern Munich footballer, has accumulated many trophies and achievements in his 29 years.

And four more national ones - a victory at the World Championship and three bronze medals (two at the European tournament and one at the 2010 World Cup).
