Galina Nemova - biography, personal life and interesting facts

“At times dad showed toughness”: the sons of Alexei Nemov spoke about their upbringing in the family

43-year-old Alexey Nemov is a gymnast, four-time Olympic champion. He and his wife Galina have two children, sons Alexey and Dmitry. Alexey is already studying at the university to become a journalist, and Dmitry is still a schoolboy - he is nine years younger than his brother.

Recently, the children of the famous gymnast gave an interview to StarHit, in which they talked about themselves and their family.

According to Alexey and Dmitry, their parents enrolled them in sports clubs in early childhood. Both initially did gymnastics, but later changed their preferences.

Dmitry became interested in karate, and Alexey tried to attend swimming, basketball and volleyball classes, but ended up taking up modern dancing. Dmitry participates in his father’s show “Legends of Sports,” but neither he nor his brother see themselves in professional sports.

Nemov’s children admit that the family has a rather strict parenting style. Alexey said that at times his father “showed toughness, he could even punish,” and Nemov himself does not deny this:

“When Alexey was little, I insisted that he do push-ups. One day Lesha complained in tears: “Dad, when you are 70 years old, I will make you do 100 push-ups.” I then replied: “My boy, I will only be happy if I can do this 100 times at such a respectable age.”

The brothers communicate well, the older one helps the younger one with his homework. Alexey remembered that he was sitting with little Dima when his parents left: he bathed his brother, fed him and played with him. But conflicts, of course, happened.

“One day my mother was doing housework, I was playing PlayStation, and my brother was pestering me. He was so annoying that at some point I hit him. And then my mother entered the room. She didn’t say anything, but there was so much disappointment in her eyes... I was terribly ashamed, and I’m still ashamed.”

The brothers do not yet want to become popular bloggers, preferring to spend their free time differently. Dmitry plays chess with his father, collects Lego, and goes to the movies. Alexey meets with friends and girls. Both sons of the famous gymnast enjoy traveling - Dima travels with his parents for now, and Alexey is already independent.

Young people are already earning money on their own: Alexey is engaged in photography, and Dmitry receives fees for participating in the show.

Alexey and Dmitry have an older brother, Evgeniy, the son of Galina Nemova from her first marriage.

Second marriage

Nemov’s wife Galina told reporters in one of her interviews that she and her husband celebrate August 8 as the day of their marital union. However, the couple officially got married on June 2, 2000 in Tolyatti, immediately before the Olympic Games in Sydney. By the way, Galina Nemova’s youngest son, Alexey, was born a few days after the wedding ceremony, when his dad defended the honor of our country at the gymnastics stadium in Australia. The birth took place in Moscow to the sounds of the famous hit of the 90s. When the young mother heard the words “Because you have Alyoshka” on the radio, she realized that the baby should be named Lesha and nothing else.

Foreign recognition

Alexey Nemov was also praised by his foreign colleagues.

In 2004, after a performance in Athens, a Russian athlete voluntarily came out to console the audience, asking them to let the next athlete perform. With gestures, he thanked all those who came to watch his performance and those who sympathize with artistic gymnastics. For this noble act, he received a special prize from the international Fair Play Committee.

In 2005, Nemov was awarded a similar award, only from the hands of the Chairman of the Polish Olympic Committee, Piotr Nurovsky.

In 2008, a special prize was awarded at the Laureus World Sports Awards.

Alexey Nemov started a fight on the road

Titled athlete Alexey Nemov became a participant in a brawl in the center of Moscow. The incident was caused by a parking space. Stopping in the second row on the road, activists of the StopHam movement decided to remind the Olympic champion that his car was disturbing other road users. But Alexey did not follow the advice of traffic participants, for which a large sticker was glued to the windshield of his car. It indicated that the motorist was not following parking rules. After this, the famous athlete got out of the car and hit one of the activists in the face.

It must be said that the video recording that was made during the incident shows that the civil activist himself did not remain in debt. A slight scuffle ensued between the men.

Alexey Nemov’s wife Galina presented her vision of the unpleasant situation that had occurred. According to her, Alexey stopped so that she could briefly get out of the car. Moreover, their child was in the car and saw the entire incident. In addition, the athlete waited until the first parking space became available to take it.

“They immediately started knocking on the glass and acting rudely, and that’s why Lesha couldn’t stand it. He couldn’t leave because I was without a phone. The cars in front simply drove away and did not interfere with what was happening,” Nemova said.

Moreover, the wife of the Olympic champion shared that her husband suffered serious damage during the brawl. After falling to the ground, Alexei's gold wristwatch broke. Moreover, Galina believes that their rights were violated, and therefore they may well contact law enforcement agencies and write a statement.

It often happens that some celebrities, taking advantage of their popularity, try to smooth out the conflict, and many are ready to make concessions to them. However, the young man Muhammad, a participant in the StopHam movement, did not recognize the famous champion. But according to him, even this would not stop him from remarking on the violator of traffic rules.

“To be honest, I didn’t know it was Nemov. Only later did I see on the recording that he was a famous athlete. I didn’t know who it was, for me it was the same person as everyone else. People are not divided into champions and non-champions. You need to convey to the person that he is not behaving well. I had no desire to get into a fight,” said Mohammed, a member of the StopHam movement, in an interview with LifeNews TV channel.

The Nemov family today

In October 2012, sports fans were able to witness the premiere of the magnificent show “Legends of Sports. Ascension". The famous Olympic champion Alexey Nemov took part in it, along with Svetlana Khorkina and Laysan Utyasheva. This cost him a lot of effort, since in September the athlete lost his mother and took this loss seriously. During a difficult period in his life, Galina Nemova supported him.

And today she continues to be her husband’s main assistant in solving any problems and inspires him to new achievements. In particular, at the moment, the famous athlete is busy with the construction of the Nemov Center gymnastics center in Tolyatti. Its opening is scheduled for 2020. Galina’s experience as an administrator will probably be very useful there.

Now you know how old Galina Nemova is, how she met her husband and what difficulties they had to overcome on the path to family happiness.

Alexey Nemov: childhood, beginning of a sports career

The future gymnast was born in the small village of Barashevo, in the Republic of Mordovia, in 1976, on May 28, in an ordinary family not associated with sports. When little Lesha was only three years old, his father left the family. The mother raised the child on her own, and therefore often faced various difficulties, including financial ones. Soon she and her son moved to live in Tolyatti, where the future Olympic champion spent his childhood and youth. At the age of five and a half years, my mother brought her heir to the Olympic Reserve Youth Sports School, to the artistic gymnastics section. The famous coach Evgeniy Nikolko became the mentor of young Nemov, who immediately saw enormous potential in the boy, calling him the future of national artistic gymnastics. The coach’s predictions soon began to come true, and already at the age of 13, the young gymnast won the USSR Youth Championship.

Alexey was not limited to sports training alone; he also studied well at school, and after receiving a certificate, he became a student at the State Pedagogical University. Higher education later allowed Nemov to receive the position of editor-in-chief of the authoritative magazine Bolshoy Sport. While still a student, the athlete became a two-time Olympic champion, winning two gold, one silver and three bronze medals in Atlanta. Four years later, he repeated his success at the Sydney Olympics, with exactly the same number and ratio of medals. In addition, Alexey became world champion five times and also won the European Championship.
