For several years, Marina Kim was the host of the Good Morning program; she delighted viewers of Channel One with her positive attitude, and also told the news happening in the country. To build her television career and achieve the desired goal, Marina often had to overcome fears and complexes, thanks to which she strengthened her character and learned to cope with psychological difficulties. During this time, her work biography included not only entertainment projects, but also political programs, where she conducted numerous reports and interviewed various people.

Kim is a very emotional and hasty person; she is always in a hurry to get somewhere, unable to imagine herself without her work, which brings her unprecedented pleasure. For some time now, the TV presenter has not disclosed her personal life, preferring to adhere to the saying: “happiness loves silence,” so no one knows about her chosen one. Raising two daughters, Marina does not intend to completely immerse herself in caring for her family, which is why she finds a balance between work and motherhood. She wants a lot from life, but she also has her most cherished dream - to learn to love truly.
Childhood
Marina was born in the summer of 1983 in Leningrad. Her parents came to the city on the Neva from different parts of the country: her father, a Korean by nationality, comes from the city of Prokhladny in Kabardino-Balkaria, and her mother spent her childhood and youth in Latvia. After the wedding, they first had a brother for the future presenter, who is two years older than her.

The father adhered to national customs and raised his children strictly. Korean relatives from Kabardino-Balkaria tried to influence her mother and make her an obedient wife, but she had an independent character and was not going to obey them. During her childhood, Marina came on vacation to her grandparents, who also gave her a lot of life advice. For several years the family lived in a communal apartment, and when the 90s came, the father went into the construction business, thanks to which they were able to buy a two-room apartment.
During her school years, Kim did not cause any trouble to her parents and studied well, managing to go to the Palace of Pioneers, where she studied in various circles. As a member of the choreographic studio, at first she did not receive leading roles, as the teachers believed that she was overweight. The girl then cried and seemed like a clumsy fat woman, but over time everything got better, and she, along with other guys, went on tour to Japan and Finland, and also performed in front of the residents of her city. It was then that the future presenter realized that she received great pleasure from performing in front of the audience.

One day, during one of the choreography classes, a 15-year-old girl was noticed and invited to work as a model. At first she demonstrated clothing from a clothing factory at shows, and then began appearing in videos and accepting invitations from various brands. Her parents did not like working as a model, who were afraid that their growing daughter would go down the wrong path. But after school, Marina chose a different path: she entered the university, becoming a student at the Faculty of International Relations.

Soon her father divorced her mother and moved to live in Moscow. Kim also moved to the capital and soon transferred to MGIMO. To become a student at this university, she had to pass many exams and tests, and also master the English language perfectly. While still an intern, she visited the Committee of the Federation Council, where she conducted a dialogue with senators.
Work live
During her student years, the girl became interested in working on television, which is why she took courses for TV presenters. It was not easy to start a career: she went to castings for several months, however, she was refused everywhere.

Marina did not want to put up with this and went ahead; Over time, she learned to work in front of the camera and did everything quite competently and professionally. Soon, the 21-year-old girl became the host of the “Markets” program on RBC-TV, and three years later she already collaborated with “Russia”, where she worked on the “Vesti” program. Her broadcasts were connected to the Far East, so she had to work at night all week. This schedule was very exhausting for Kim, and besides, the audience didn’t even see her on screen.
The aspiring presenter already wanted to leave the channel, but then she was offered a new position - to be co-host of Ernest Matskevichus in the Vesti program. The young girl sought to prove to her colleagues that she could handle the new position and did not even refuse extreme business trips. Then Marina had a chance to work in such programs as:
- "News on Saturday";
- "News of the week";
- "A week in the city."
In 2014, she moved to Channel One, joining the team of the Good Morning program. The presenter was not limited to filming in the studio and made short reports about North Korea, was engaged in correspondent work and led round tables at various forums.

In 2020, she changed the format again, becoming a moderator of the talk show “Big Game”, aired on Channel One. It was no coincidence that Kim appeared in this program, since she is an international American specialist by training.

Now Marina feels in her place; She is combative and displays diplomatic subtlety and the necessary knowledge during conversations with politicians and dignitaries.
A television
Marina Kim’s work biography began in 2004. The MGIMO student hosted the “Markets” program, which aired on the RBC business channel. The presenter made analytical reviews of Asian stock indices. After 3 years, Kim was invited to the Vesti program on the Rossiya channel.

Less than a year later, Marina Kim was already hosting evening broadcasts together with Ernest Matskevičius. The TV presenter's skill was noticed, her rating increased, and along with this her responsibilities grew. Soon the young woman was assigned to host the 11-hour and 16-hour editions of the Vesti program, paired with Alexander Golubev.
2012 turned out to be a busy and successful year for Marina. The girl made her debut as a correspondent, having received the task of independently preparing a series of reports for “News on Saturday” and “News of the Week”. She was also invited to participate in the 7th season of the show “Dancing with the Stars,” where Alexander Litvinenko turned out to be her partner.

The couple won the sympathy of the audience and 2nd place. Participation in the popular show becomes the next step in Kim’s career. The girl is offered to work in the entertainment program “Big Dance Close-Up”.
2013 brought Marina Kim a new promotion. This year, the journalist becomes the host of the author’s information and analytical program “Week in the City,” in which she talks about the latest events in the capital. In 2014, the presenter moved to work on Channel One in the Good Morning project. As Marina Kim said, this is a conscious decision.

At some point, the journalist simply no longer wanted to talk about serious events, politics, disasters and cataclysms. In the entertaining morning program, she touched on topics about culinary tricks and recipes from experienced housewives, congratulated the stars who came to visit on their anniversaries and premieres, and gave a good mood to the audience.
At the end of 2014, Marina Kim, the owner of a toned figure (height 170 cm, weight 50 kg), was invited to the “Ice Age” project, where the pair of TV presenters was Russian figure skater Sergei Slavnov. She managed to participate in the first stage. But the performance was unsuccessful, so the recording was cut from the broadcast of the television version of the competition.
Report “Undressy Pyongyang”
In 2020, Marina became a co-author of journalist Sergei Brilev in the documentary film “Pyongyang-Seoul. And further…”, which was broadcast on the Rossiya TV channel. The presenter also has her own project about events on the Korean Peninsula called “Undressy Pyongyang.” This is not easy to do, because in North Korea, considered one of the most closed countries in the world, it is extremely difficult to get local residents and officials to have a frank conversation.
The presenter also tried herself as an actress. Kim made her debut in the film “Serco”, created by French director Joel Farge. She starred with Alexei Chadov. She also played the leading role in the comedy youth film “Bishkek, I Love You.” The TV presenter appeared in the image of a Kyrgyz girl who was deceived by her lover. The comedy was a success in cinemas in Kyrgyzstan.

Journalist Marina Kim
In mid-August 2020, Marina participated in a Channel One project, which released a series of reports from the capital of North Korea. Every day on Good Morning, Kim appeared with a short video about the life of Korean citizens, telling Russians about Pyongyang fashion, beauty salons, favorite plants of Koreans, restaurants and traditional cuisine.
Together with Alexander Nosik, Alena Khmelnitskaya, Evelina Bledans and Anastasia Tregubova, Marina joined the jury of the Mrs. Russia 2017 competition, which was won by the wife of Russian showman Dmitry Dibrov, mother of many children, Polina Dibrova.
Romances with men and the birth of daughters
Even in her youth, the presenter’s grandmother advised her to be flexible with men and never argue with them. She also instructed the girl to choose her future husband from representatives of her nationality. The grandmother adored Brazilian TV series, so, following the example of their heroes, she threatened her granddaughter that she would deprive her of her inheritance. But Marina was not afraid of this and in response said that she liked black guys, which greatly frightened her grandmother.
The first serious relationship in her personal life happened when she was a high school student. The young model met her boyfriend in Paris, where she was invited to shoot. He was ten years older than Kim and often met her after school with a huge bouquet of roses. The parents were then shocked by their daughter’s early love and often put her under house arrest. It was because of this young man that she moved to Moscow, but the lovers soon separated.
When the presenter just started her career in the capital, she had absolutely no time for affairs with men. This was facilitated not only by workload, but also by the strict rules of the channel’s producers, who did not allow visiting nightclubs or wearing revealing clothes. Of course, rich businessmen have always fallen in love with the beautiful girl on the screen; they invited her on dates, to restaurants, but Marina herself did not reciprocate. Her personal life changed when the presenter was invited to become a participant in the “Dancing with the Stars” program, where for the first time in a long time she felt like a beautiful and desirable woman, whom an army of men looked at with admiration.

Her partner Alexander Litvinenko helped her get in shape and loosen up in front of the audience; it is not surprising that soon everyone was talking about the romance of the show participants. When filming of the dance project came to an end, Kim realized that she and Litvinenko were too different people, but despite this, she did not regret anything. Thanks to the dancer’s advice, she stopped leading a secluded lifestyle and wearing only jackets; The presenter was able to get rid of excess weight, took care of her appearance and bought new outfits.

She soon became interested in traveling, visiting many European cities and the Caribbean islands. It is not surprising that from that time on, men appeared in her life who dreamed of achieving the love of a beauty. According to Marina, she had an affair with an eastern prince, however, the lover was so demanding and jealous of all men that it scared her away.

In 2014, she gave birth to a daughter, Briana, who was born in one of the clinics in Los Angeles, however, the presenter did not reveal who the baby’s father was. She was practically not on maternity leave and immediately after giving birth she went to work. Later, journalists declassified her lover: he turned out to be Hollywood director Brett Ratner. The lovers met back in 2011 on the Caribbean islands, where Kim went to celebrate the New Year. It was difficult to maintain a long-distance relationship, and besides, the presenter was not going to leave her family and work for her lover. They were in no hurry to change their status and continued to meet when their work schedules allowed.

When her second child, daughter Darina, was born in 2020, many were sure that Ratner was also the baby’s father. Despite her status as a mother of two children, the broadcast star does not want to take on the role of an ordinary wife and mother, since she is not yet ready to devote all her time only to her family. While she is on set, nannies look after the girls, but Marina devotes her rest days only to them: first, the whole family goes to a cafe to eat pancakes with chocolate, then they go to the shops for toys, and then the whole noisy company has fun on the rides in the park.
I forgot about my personal life while working
Journalism is Kim's second life
Marina Kim has Korean roots and therefore has a colorful appearance. At twenty-four, she became a news anchor on the country's main TV channel. Later she made serious documentaries. And in the new television season of Channel One she began wishing us good morning in the program of the same name. This year the TV presenter turns thirty-two years old.
At some point, the girl realized that there was too much work around her. She admitted:
“While my girlfriends were thinking about a new handbag and sandals, I was captured by the problems of Syria, Ukraine and relations with the United States. I realized that I needed to change something, get involved in my own life, worry about it. That my future is not just news releases, but also something more. Before this, I had tried more than once to combine my personal life with work. But nothing happened as ordered. Only when I realized the importance of what was happening, without rushing myself or setting any deadlines, did I launch irreversible processes in my life. And after some time a child appeared in her.”

With her lover - director Brett Ratner

Yes, back in 2014 Marina became a mother. But the public, despite the efforts of journalists, still does not know the gender or name of the child. There is no exact information about who the baby’s father is. Although, judging by the stories of Kim herself, this is not difficult to guess.
“According to Korean traditions, strangers should not know anything about the baby’s identity. To protect him from negative energy.”
But Kim willingly talks about her lover. Together with American director Brett Ratner (films “The Family Man”, “Skyline”, “Beverly Hills Cop”, etc.) she was noticed in 2014. But Marina herself admits that their relationship has been going on for several years. She recalls:
“At first it was a short, meaningless meeting. We chatted for about ten minutes and flew off to different countries and continents. Then there were text messages from Bratt, which I didn’t attach too much importance to. Flying on an airplane a year after our meeting became symbolic for me. I decided to watch the film. And out of five hundred options, I chose Ratner’s movie. When I landed, I received a text message from him on my phone asking “How are you?” I realized that this was a sign. Our next meeting in Budapest was much more romantic. Although it was also almost accidental. I was sent to Hungary on a business trip; Bratt was filming there. I remember he really surprised me then by declaring that he wanted a child from me.”
Marina and Bratt have a free bird relationship
While her beloved is overseas, Kim decided to dance
But Kim became pregnant between two trips to North and South Korea, about which she filmed a documentary.
Regarding the fact that Marina gave birth quite late, the TV presenter shares her experience of childbirth in the United States:
“You know, I was the youngest woman in labor in our ward. Next to me, women who were already over forty and under fifty gave birth. In America, the reproductive age range has expanded. And everyone is calm about such older pregnant women. Likewise, a man is not called a “bob” if he has not married after forty. Even at sixty-five, such a nickname does not stick to him. At this age, some people still start families and rejoice in their family successes.”
It should be noted that before meeting Marina, forty-five-year-old Brett Rettner had never been married, not counting less serious relationships. The director also had no children. He was completely absorbed in his work. The current format of relations with Kim also does not quite fit into the usual family framework. It’s hard to even call this man and woman a couple. They are like two free birds that sometimes fly to one place, enjoy each other’s company, and again each fly off to do their own thing. At the same time, cherishing the thought of a new meeting.
Marina does not force events, understanding with which creative person she has connected her life path. But she still hopes that in the future the relationship with the father of her child will be as strong as it is free.
Marina Kim spoke about her documentary “Undressy Pyongyang”:
Interesting facts from the life of Marina Kim
- During her childhood, Kim suffered from severe allergies, which caused her body to be constantly covered in crusts. The girl loved chocolates and various sweets, but her parents did not allow it so as not to cause aggravation. Only when she got older was she able to eat enough candy.
- The future presenter was often called names at school because of her nationality; she suffered ridicule and did not want to be friends with her classmates. To numerous insults, the girl always answered: “The Korean woman is on the counter in the store, and I am Korean.”
- As an international relations student, she wrote her senior thesis on the Clinton impeachment. Then the girl put forward the idea that the president’s wife had gained incredible political capital, thanks to which she could become president herself. The student’s supervisor assured her that she was mistaken, however, as Marina predicted, Hillary Clinton tried to become the head of the country in 2020, nominating her candidacy for the presidency.
- While filming the show “Without Insurance,” the presenter didn’t even know that she was four months pregnant. She coped with all the loads and was the first among the participants to do a backflip. At that time, Kim was constantly hungry, but then she attributed her brutal appetite to constant training. When four numbers with her participation were ready, the presenter found out that she was expecting her second child. She wanted to continue participating in the extreme show, but the doctors were categorically against it.
- She is not a hostage to her appearance and can often do without beauty treatments. It takes Kim no more than ten minutes to prepare her face for broadcast. She trusts her luxurious hair to a professional hairdresser, to whom she has been going to get her hair cut for 15 years. The presenter also finds time to monitor her figure (with a height of 170 cm, her weight is 50-55 kg); she does Pilates and also periodically does anti-cellulite massage.
