Ilya Korobko: on-screen relationships are simply copied from my life

BIOGRAPHY

The young but already quite famous actor Ilya Korobko grew up in a simple Moscow family. His grandfather moved to the capital from the north and was a taxi driver all his life, and painted pictures in his free time. My father worked as a warehouse manager in a restaurant, and my mother worked as a salesperson. But their children chose creative professions. “When my brother was sent to dance, dad was very worried. He’s a master of sports in boxing, and somehow he got tense when one son became an actor and the other became a dancer,” says Ilya. “But now dad is imbued with our creativity, he went to all my performances many times, he brought friends. And now he goes to his brother’s for competitions.”

As a child, Ilya played football and attended art school for some time. And Korobko became an actor by luck. When the boy was seven years old, his grandmother took him to a performance at the Theater. Ermolova. There, a Mosfilm employee approached them and invited Ilya to take part in the casting. Within two weeks, the first-grader starred in his first commercial, and then received several more offers.

When Ilya was 11, his photographs from the Mosfilm database reached the creators of the play “City of Millionaires,” and the boy was invited to watch. The artist says: “We came to Lenkom, and my mother almost fainted when she saw Mark Anatolyevich Zakharov, Nikolai Petrovich Karachentsov and Roman Savelyevich Samgin, the director, in the room. The three of them chose a child for the role of Karachentsov’s son.” Ilya passed the test and was approved.

When the time came to enter the institute, Korobko without hesitation took the documents to RATI (GITIS) and on the first try entered the course with Vladimir Andreev.

Childhood and family of Ilya Korobko

The family of the young actor Ilya Korobko is very far from the world of cinema and theater: his father works as a warehouse manager in a restaurant, and his mother is a watch salesman.
It is noteworthy that Ilya’s father is also a master of sports in boxing. The young actor has a brother and a sister. Unlike their parents, all three children devoted themselves to art. So, brother Korobko is seriously involved in dancing. In addition, at the age of 16, he is a multiple champion in folk dancing. My sister, in turn, studies design.

Ilya Korobko showed his passion for art even in childhood. He went to art school for three years. True, he often walked her. According to the actor, mainly due to the fact that there were only girls in the group.

Star of the TV series “Molodezhka” Ilya Korobko

In first grade, the future star was invited to appear in a commercial. After that, the boy was invited to appear in several more commercials. At the age of 11, he was first involved in a theatrical production. The actor says that his mother received a special call from Lenfilm and invited him to audition. The boy was unanimously approved for the role of Karachentsov’s son in the film “City of Millionaires” not only by the famous actor himself, but also by such stars as Mark Zakharov and Roman Samgin. According to the plot of the play, the main character had three sons, and it so happened that Ilya Korobko played all three characters. Youth | Player No. 95 - Ilya Korobko While simultaneously acting in films and advertising, the young actor was seriously involved in football. But due to a severe allergy to synthetics, I had to give up the sport, since even ordinary shields began to cause severe irritation. Currently Ilya is engaged in Thai boxing.

After graduating from school, Ilya Korobko, already being a real actor, decided to apply to a theater university. At the moment, the actor is completing the 4th year of the Russian Academy of Theater Arts “GITIS”, acting department, workshop of V. A. Andreev.

THEATER

You can say that Ilya Korobko grew up in Lenkom: for 10 years he played in the City of Millionaires and even went on tour with the troupe. And in his second year at GITIS, he was approved for one of the main roles in the children's play “Pippi Longstocking” at the Theater. Ermolova.

Today, the artist is mostly busy filming, but has no plans to give up the stage completely. “In my opinion, it is theater that helps an actor reveal new facets, develop, and grow. In cinema, of course, this can also be done, but in front of the camera you play for a maximum of three minutes, in the theater you need to hold one role for 2-3 hours and not leave it. I would like to be involved in an enterprise, it’s more interesting than repertory theater,” says Ilya.

Ilya Korobko today and his plans for the future

After filming the series “Molodezhka” ends, Ilya Korobko plans to make a film with his friends. Probably, as the actor says, this will be a short film about modern youth.

It is noteworthy that actors from Molodezhka will be involved in the film. So, for example, Ilya will give one of the main roles to Vladislav Kanopka. Kanopka played one of the main roles in the TV series “Molodezhka”. In addition, Ilya plans to go abroad to the USA or the Czech Republic to obtain a degree in directing.

Currently, Ilya Korobko is participating in the filming of the new series “Parallel Life”. The actor’s partners on the set were Evgeny Sidikhin, Victoria Romanenko and others. It is worth noting that this will be the second main role of the young actor after “Molodezhka”.

MOVIE

Ilya Korobko’s film career began in his school years with an episode in the TV series “My Fair Nanny.” Then, already as a student, he starred in small roles in the telenovelas “Poor Relatives”, “Veronica. Lost Happiness" and others. And in 2013, the series “Fatal Inheritance” was released, where the actor played one of the main roles - a young mathematician from a provincial town who unexpectedly receives a large inheritance, but finds himself drawn into a dangerous story.

"Molodezhka"

The role of hockey player Mikhail Ponomarev in the TV series “Molodezhka” became truly stellar. The actor finds a lot in common with his hero: “We are both kind and hardworking. My whole family is hard-working, I don’t find a place for myself when there is no work. Misha Ponomarev is the same. We are also united by independence: Misha lives without parents, and I have been living separately since I was 16 years old. As for kindness, this is also a common trait, although in Ponomarev it is sometimes exaggerated. But the audience really likes her.”

Before filming, the actors trained on the ice for six months, and here Ilya’s sports training came in handy. But all the efforts were rewarded when the series aired, and incredible popularity fell on the young actors.

New projects

In 2020, Ilya Korobko played the lead role for the first time in a full-length film - a military drama called “One”.

“All my life I dreamed of playing in a big movie, and I perceive this role as a gift,” Korobko admits. — It seems to me that any student at a theater university, any young actor dreams of playing in a real war drama. What can you say, even the older generation of actors say that there is no such energy as in a war movie, where everyone is running through the trenches together, crawling along the ground, where you are constantly on the edge.” The ensemble for the young man consisted of Andrey Merzlikin, Anna Prus, Mikhail Evlanov and others.

Next came another film about the war with the participation of Ilya Korobko - “The Last Frontier”. And in 2020, the series “False Note” premiered on the Rossiya TV channel.

Film career

In 2013, the series “Fatal Inheritance” was released, Ilya played one of the main characters in it - a provincial young mathematician who unexpectedly received a large inheritance and thereby became embroiled in a dangerous story.

Finally, in 2020, Ilya’s dream of a leading role in a big movie came true. In the full-length military drama "One" Korobko played senior lieutenant Egorov. He calls this role a gift of fate. Ilya is sure that any theater student or young actor dreams of playing in a film about the war. After all, such energy and constant presence on the edge as in war films cannot be found anywhere else. The actor is incredibly glad that his dream came true at the very beginning of his film career.

Following “One”, Korobko again starred in the film about the war “The Last Frontier”. 1941 The Germans were preparing an attack on Moscow, and 28 recruits had to stand in the defense of the Volokolamsk highway at all costs.

In 2020, the melodramatic series “False Note” was released on the Rossiya TV channel, where Korobko again has the main role - the son of a music teacher, Kirill.

In 2020, Ilya participated in the project “War and Peace. We are reading a novel." Over the course of four days, hundreds of people read the work of the great writer live.

PERSONAL LIFE

For a long time, the handsome young actor was considered an eligible bachelor, but recently it became known that he was dating a girl named Maria. She works in a PR service and accompanied the Molodezhka actors on a press tour. It was there that the young people met. “Masha and I understand each other perfectly. And when I saw her then on the platform of the Leningradsky station, where we met for the first time, I realized: here is my soulmate,” admits Ilya.

The couple leads an active lifestyle. The guys travel a lot, snowboard, and recently got a dog - a beagle named Terry.

Personal life of Ilya Korobko

Ilya takes his personal life seriously, and in the future he plans to start a strong and large family. At the moment, the actor has been living separately from his parents for 5 years, renting an apartment. A couple of years ago, Korobko met a girl, they lived with her for some time. After that, he decided that living on a woman’s property was not a man’s way and decided to rent an apartment. Soon, however, the couple broke up, and now the young actor is an eligible bachelor.

INTERVIEW

About grandfather's creativity

“My grandfather worked as a taxi driver all his life, and painted pictures in his spare time. And he did it in an unusual way: he painted a reproduction of a famous painting, but with the face of one of our family members. So, in my mother’s room there hangs a huge painting “The Last Day of Pompeii” by Karl Bryullov. Grandfather had a great sense of humor - my whole family is gathered in this picture. True, the grandfather did not have time to complete the painting, but he planned to gather all family members on this canvas. We also have the Virgin Mary with a baby in her arms: the Virgin Mary has my mother’s face, and the baby, accordingly, has mine... There are a bunch of portraits of my grandmother hanging at home - my grandfather loved her very much. The only exact reproduction he painted without changing anything was the Mona Lisa. We even sometimes joke that this is the original."

About pride in family

“I love people who are professional about their work and sincerely love what they do. When I come to my brother’s concert, and he’s an actor, I’m so proud that he’s my brother, that he has eyes like mine! And our cousin is also very talented. She’s a designer, she has a lot of her own projects, she paints pictures, she’s involved in charity work.”

About desirable roles

“As an actor, I’m interested in everything, and I want to try myself everywhere. I would be very happy to play in a comedy or some original social drama. I truly love my job, and therefore in every role I can find some interesting nuance for myself, and grab onto it tightly.”

About ambitions

“Actually, I’m thinking about going abroad for six months to study as a director - either in the USA or in Prague. I would also like to master camera skills. Four years of college were not enough for me; I really want to study. I probably chose the acting profession precisely because I am interested in too many things. I try to constantly change something. While you are still young and have ambitions, you have to give it your all. I need some movement!”

Ilya Korobko: on-screen relationships are simply copied from my life

“Live Kuban” met with “Molodezhka” star Ilya Korobko.
According to the script, he is Mikhail Ponomarev, the team’s defender, player number 95. They say that the third season of the Molodezhka series is completely different, unlike the previous ones. Do you agree?

I can say that he is truly the most interesting. In the new episodes, events develop at lightning speed, and what was twisted earlier is finally revealed. However, we have kept the images from the first season, so no major changes are expected on the personal front of my hero (smiles).

At one time, Alina’s mother interfered with the lovers’ relationship. Who will stand in their way now?

My character is jealous of his wife towards everyone, and most importantly, towards her coach Oleg, who is clearly trying to look after the girl. Fortunately, Alina is a faithful girl, so all quarrels about this end like this: “Okay, I understand, I won’t do this again” (smiles).

The Bears call Ponomarev the conscience of the team. What do you think allows him to remain an honest, sincere person, despite all the difficulties he faces?

I think that on the ice he throws out all his negative emotions, but for real life he leaves positive and kind moments. Misha grew up in a family with a drinking father and in the absence of a mother, so he had seen enough devastation, that was enough for him. My hero wants to keep everything bright and pure for himself. Moreover, he has Alina - such a well-mannered, educated, smart, kind, devoted and loving girl. And together they, like a complete set, complement and support each other.

While working on the image of Misha, did you remember a specific life example?

There are millions of them in our country. Thanks to the Molodezhka press tour, we traveled all over Russia and met a lot of guys who also live with their grandmother and are trying to achieve something themselves.

What are your most memorable fan encounters?

When we were filming in Podolsk, a girl came to Vanya Mulin every day and each time with some kind of gift. Moreover, she always waited for Vanya in the same place and in any weather. This is such loyalty! If you remember the cases with my participation, I remember how one girl shouted after me that I once crushed her leg on the set, after which she was treated for a long time. Then her friend admitted that this was not true, and in fact, this was their way of trying to get my attention. In general, as soon as we all gather somewhere, crazy situations immediately happen (smiles). Nowadays teenagers are not the same as we were in our time; they develop much faster.

How do adult fans show their love?

When we were in Irkutsk, we went to the market for fish and saw a 90-year-old granny who recognized us and asked us to hug, kiss and take a photo. Also in Tomsk, while signing autographs, I looked up and noticed an elderly woman in the crowd. She admitted with tears in her eyes that she wanted to give us flowers. Of course, it’s nice that the series is watched not only by teenagers, but also by adults. I can say that even at meetings with young fans, mothers run to be photographed first, and only then their children (smiles).

Do fans give any advice to your hero?

I noticed one tendency that, unlike my friends who play in other projects, they don’t shout after us, make fun of us or criticize us. We, the Molodezhka actors, are respected and, as a rule, when we meet, they shake hands and thank us. And it's very nice!

Misha Ponomarev has many fans of the older generation. This is understandable, after all, you play a caring grandson. Do you often visit your real grandmother?

Certainly! In general, it seems to me that on-screen relationships are simply copied from my life, only my grandmother is even kinder and more touching. I recently told her that I would punish the dog, so she was worried for half a day - she felt sorry for the dog.

She is probably preparing thoroughly for your arrival?

My grandmother lives with my parents, so we often come to visit. We even have this joke in our family: “If your grandson is coming, it means the frying pans are already ready.” As soon as we get ready to visit her, she drops everything she’s doing and immediately runs to the stove. I really love her pies and pancakes! But I like my girlfriend Masha’s version of borscht better. I have never eaten anything tastier!

By the way, your colleagues admitted that during the filming of Molodezhka you constantly want to eat.

Certainly! I skated on the ice for one hour and already forgot that it was lunch. Therefore, we have to supplement ourselves with something else: someone takes homemade preparations, and someone runs to the nearest store during a break.

Regarding the ice scenes, are there fewer understudies in the third season?

It's hard to do without them. Still, this is a dangerous sport. But every time we improve, and this time we broke records - we filmed four games a day. I think we have reached a new level, and now our hockey has become even faster and more beautiful.

“Molodezhka” made you a hockey fan or were you also an active fan before filming?

I’ll be honest, I didn’t watch hockey before the project and didn’t understand how you could see a small puck on the ice. And now I not only see her, but also much more. Serious interest arose, we met a large number of athletes and became so deeply immersed in it all that hockey became an integral part of our lives. And now watching the game, going to training is in the order of things.

What do professional hockey players tell you about Molodezhka? Do they scold or praise?

Oleg Znarok, who has been in touch with us since the first season, constantly asks to send a couple more episodes, because he is so captivated by the plot that he cannot sleep until he finds out the continuation (smiles). He controls the filming process from the very beginning. We even attended Dynamo’s training sessions when Oleg Valerievich was the coach of this club. I remember then he allowed us to hold the Gagarin Cup in our hands.

They say that in the third season there was again the participation of Vyacheslav Fetisov.

He is always with us as the main mascot of the series. Many famous hockey players often visit us. Recently, Valery Nichushkin, a very modest and pleasant person, was on the set. Alexander Ovechkin and Alexey Morozov were also guests. Alexey Morozov starred in one of the episodes of Molodezhka. By the way, in honor of the latter, my hero was given number 95.

Do you think the STS project has brought back the former popularity of this sport?

As far as I know, after the release of the first season, the demand for hockey in our country increased by 40%. I think this is a good result! To be honest, we have always had the best hockey players. Great foreign players can be counted on one hand, I only remember Sidney Crosby, but ours can be listed endlessly. This is because we have the strongest school. And if you go to a match now, you can see a full stadium. It’s just that before, in Soviet times, there was only hockey and football, so everyone talked only about that. And now there is such a variety of entertainment that it’s dizzying: paintball, patrols, quests, the Internet.

Who are you rooting for?

For CSKA! And in my family I am the only one. Dad, all my relatives and even my girlfriend are Spartak fans. So I’m in the opposition (smiles), that’s why no one goes to matches with me.

Do you have an idol among hockey players?

I love Ovechkin! I like him both as a person and as an athlete. Alexander is a great guy, he successfully achieves all his goals.

In the military film “The Last Frontier,” your partners in the STS series, Makar Zaporozhsky and Vlad Kanopka, play with you. Outside of Molodezhka, do you often find yourself on the same site?

Of course, after Molodezhka the number of offers increased, and yes, we sometimes overlap with the guys. The film takes place in 1944, when the Germans were preparing an attack on Moscow. We play Panfilov's men, I only have a couple of episodes, but Makar has the main role.

And if you were offered to play a German, would you accept?

With pleasure! I really want to play such a scoundrel and destroy the stereotype of a positive hero, so that the role is one of resistance.

“Molodezhka” gave the actors not only an interest in hockey, but also friends. Who do you see most often outside of filming?

Almost everyone. We recently discussed with Vlad Kanopka that projects such as “Molodezhka” happen once in a lifetime. This is the third year we have been coming to the site as if it were our home, we communicate a lot, and during this time there has not been a single conflict. And this is the main merit of director Sergei Arlanov. After all, he assembled such a wonderful team. It seems to me that he has a special gift for feeling people. And if we talk about a friend who appeared thanks to Molodezhka, this is Vanya Mulin. In general, I think that the main thing in friendship is loyalty, mutual support, when they can lend a shoulder to you and lend a helping hand, regardless of the situation. So I can call Vanya at any time and ask for something, and he will lose his temper, drop everything he’s doing and come. Recently I was filming in front of his house, so he parked my car all this time (smiles).

What is important in the relationship between a man and a woman?

So that a girl can cook delicious borscht (laughs). But seriously, everything should be the same as I have now. You need to be good friends and love each other. That's all!

Do you think there are different-sex friendships?

I don't think so. Relationships are generally a complicated thing. But in this case, it seems to me that one person has feelings, and the other pretends to be a friend. After all, a man and a woman are attracted like magnets. Although girls may think differently, not even understanding how they mock guys, saying: “You are my best friend!” And at this time he thinks to himself: “That’s it?!” (smiles).

You recently got another friend - Terry the dog. Why did you decide to have a pet?

I have long wanted to adopt a beagle, and now I am paying for it. Terry is like a real child: I wipe her drool, look after and feed her, walk with her and put her to bed, and at the same time listen to her snore all night (smiles). One day she almost ate the phone. So I think the name Terry, in our case, comes from the word “terrorize.”

In one interview, you said that you want to act in an auteur film. Who would you like to see as partners and director?

After the film “One” I am delighted with my colleague Andrei Merzlikin. He is an amazing actor, a super partner and a professional with a capital P, it was fun and interesting to work with him. Since childhood, I dreamed of playing together with Sergei Garmash. If we talk about directors, I am attracted to those who are dedicated to their work, such as Petr Buslov. In general, I want many things, so I rarely refuse projects.

As a child, you played in the theater, and now what is your relationship with him?

To be honest, I don’t like the repertory theater, especially its operating mechanism, which was formed back in Soviet times. This means that there is a director, stage director, artistic director and actors who work with them for 10-20 years. It's pretty boring in my opinion.

Outside of cinema, in what field do you see yourself?

When I entered drama school, I also tried out for the law academy. I felt like I should have a backup plan. And in moments when there are long breaks between filming, I think: “If only I were a lawyer now with a standardized schedule, I would sit in the courts and earn good money” (smiles).

And in 20-30 years, who do you imagine yourself to be?

I'm lying on a yacht in the Caribbean (laughs). Just kidding, of course. In fact, I live for today, and I am interested in what is happening now. Maybe I’ll become a director, cameraman or something else. I absolutely love cinema and everything connected with it, and I am ready to be both on and off camera. The only thing I don't like is the sound engineer's work.

Let's imagine that you have the opportunity to make your own movie...

There really is an opportunity, but there are no ideas. The hardest thing in cinema is to start and finish. To bring your thoughts to life, you need a gift for writing. Of course, you can find a person who will write, but there is no guarantee that he will do it the way you see.

That is, our cinema lacks good ideas?

There is enough of everything, but there are specific cases when time and funds are a problem. It happens that a film dies before your eyes because the producer is saving money or the director wants to shoot it quickly in order to meet deadlines. But overall, it seems to me that we are reaching a good level. Just the other day I saw a very touching, real, pure picture “14+”. Anna Melikyan’s film “About Love” will be released soon, the crazy “Hardcore” with Danila Kozlovsky is a brilliant project, in my opinion. Judging by the trailer, it turned out to be an interesting picture using modern technology. In addition, Russia has the best dramas, and auteur cinema is also thriving. But we are all bad with humor. There are so many good Soviet comedies and so few quality Russian ones.

Did you collect autographs of artists as a child?

I am still doing this. I have a tradition, after each project, to leave some props as a souvenir, which all members of the film crew sign. For example, on my wall there is already a T-shirt with the autographs of everyone who worked with me in the “Molodezhka” project, and a tunic from “Edinichka”

KOROBKO Ilya Romanovich

Born 01/14/1992

Childhood

Ilya Korobko was born into a family far from art: his mother works as a salesman, his father is a warehouse manager. Nevertheless, parents tried to introduce their children to creativity. Ilya’s brother dances professionally, and his sister trained as a designer.

Ilya did not lag behind them either. He studied at art school for three years, and in the first grade he starred in a commercial for the first time. The first experience was successful, and then new shootings followed.

In 2004, 12-year-old Ilya made his debut as an actor. In the 32nd episode of the popular comedy series “My Fair Nanny,” he played a small role as a school friend of one of the characters.

In high school, Ilya, in addition to acting, was actively involved in football. However, he soon discovered an allergy to synthetics, and he had to give up the sport. Well, he didn’t turn out to be an athlete, but the audience got a wonderful actor...

GITIS. First works on stage

After graduating from school, Ilya Korobko decided to connect his future life with the acting profession. His parents supported him in this, and the young man entered the acting department of the Russian Academy of Theater Arts (GITIS), in the workshop of V.A. Andreev. At the same time, his first works on stage took place: the aspiring actor played the role of the middle son in the play “City of Millionaires” directed by Roman Samgin, staged in Lenkom, and Bobby in the play “Pippi Longstocking” by Alexei Konyshev at the Theater. M.N. Ermolova.

As a student, Ilya Korobko took part in productions of the GITIS educational theater: “Five Evenings” based on the play by A. Volodin (Slavik), “The Tale of How Ivan Ivanovich and Ivan Nikifotovich Quarreled” based on Gogol (narrator), “Behind Closed Doors” J. Satra (Garsen).

“Molodezhka” and other works on the screen

In 2012, Ilya Korobko graduated from GITIS. This year turned out to be very busy for the actor: he starred in several films and TV series at once, performing mainly episodes and supporting roles. The most notable of them is Maxim Baturin in the comedy-drama series “Save the Boss”.

And in 2013, a real breakthrough occurred in Ilya Korobko’s career: the actor was invited to one of the main roles in the series “Molodezhka”, which tells about the life of the youth hockey club “Bears” from a small Russian city. Ilya Korobko got the role of defender Mikhail Ponomarev. The actor created the image of a reserved, but very kind and honest guy with a difficult fate: he happened to grow up in a poor family with a drinking father, and hockey for him is a chance for a decent life.

The fascinating series, in which there was a place for sports, drama, and love, immediately became highly rated, and the actors who starred in it gained enormous popularity.

In the wake of Ilya Korobko’s success, a 12-episode detective-adventure film “Fatal Inheritance” was released. The actor played the main role of a young teacher from a provincial college, Vladislav Mikhailov, who, risking his life, tries to find out the secret of his family.
