Childhood
Marina was born into a family far from cinema and theater: her father worked as a television technician, her mother was an accountant. However, from an early age the girl clearly showed artistic talent, and when Marina turned six, her mother took her to a ballroom dancing school. Marina was not accepted, suspecting the baby of a predisposition to obesity. After feeling a little sad, the girl began studying music at the Simferopol School of Arts, mastering the subtleties of playing the piano within its walls.
Marina Petrenko – a native of Crimea
During her school years, Marina participated in amateur performances; after the first performance she realized that she wanted to become an actress. In 2001, the girl’s father heard on TV about an upcoming casting for a historical film about Hetman Mazepa and, knowing about his daughter’s dream, sent her photograph to the director of the project, Yuri Ilyenko. A week later, Marina found an invitation to audition in her mailbox.
Together with her mother, the girl went to the Kyiv film studio named after Alexander Dovzhenko. Marina turned out to be one of the twenty most likely candidates for the role of Kochubey’s young daughter, and two months later, when she no longer hoped to receive an answer from the film studio, she was invited to filming.

The film “Prayer for Hetman Mazepa” was presented to the public in 2002, but Russian viewers never saw it due to the scandal that broke out - the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation accused the film of distorting historical facts and banned it from showing it in Russia.
In high school, Marina received more than one invitation to audition, but, at the insistence of her parents, she refused over and over again. After graduating from 9th grade, tired of stepping on the throat of her own song, the girl decided to go to Moscow on her own. The parents barely managed to find Marina at the station, with a suitcase and a ticket in her hands. At the “family meeting,” it was decided to invite to dinner an old friend of the family, actress Natalya Vdovina, who told the girl in detail about the difficulties of her chosen path. Under the influence of new arguments, Marina decided to first finish school and get a higher education, far from theater and cinema.

In 2003, she applied to the Kiev International University, choosing the specialty “International Law”. While studying at the university, Marina starred in the series “The Return of Mukhtar-3” and in the films “Five Minutes to the Metro,” “Heart of the World” and “Own Children.” With each new appearance on the set, Marina realized more and more clearly that she was much less interested in international law than in acting in front of the camera. A year before finishing her studies at the university, in 2007, she applied to four theater universities in Moscow. Each of the attempts was crowned with success, but the choice was made at the Moscow Art Theater School, where Marina Petrenko ended up in the workshop of Dmitry Brusnikin and Roman Kozak.

Debut
Success also added fuel to the fire: the girl’s mother saw on TV that a casting was going on for teenage girls in Kyiv for the filming of the film “Prayer for Hetman Mazepa.” Knowing what their child dreams of, the parents took their daughter to audition.
That morning, Petrenko, who arrived from Simferopol, almost gave up when they saw at least a thousand girls in front of the studio building, each more beautiful than the other. Many were dressed up, in stiletto heels, with full evening makeup. Frightened, my mother immediately suggested that Marina give up the idea, take a walk around the capital and return home. However, the daughter suddenly showed extraordinary firmness.
Marina cut her hair, plucked her eyebrows thinly, as was fashionable in the early 2000s, got a black tan on the beach...
Right in jeans and sneakers, without any makeup, fresh from the road, the girl boldly entered the studio and played the necessary scene. Soon the assistant sent almost all the young ladies home, leaving no more than twenty. Each of them once again demonstrated their talents. “We’ll think about it,” they said at the studio. And they asked not to change their appearance.
A month passed, no call from the studio, summer was beginning. Realizing that she didn’t pass the casting, Marina cut her hair, plucked her eyebrows thinly, as was fashionable in the early 2000s, got a black tan on the beach... and a month later she received a call with the verdict: “Approved.” The director was amazed to see a completely different girl than he claimed. I had to work hard on my appearance again.
Actor career
For a whole year, Marina had to study at two universities, separated by thousands of kilometers. Having barely passed the exams in Moscow, she began to prepare for the exam in Kyiv.
Filming
At the same time, the girl was approved for a role in the gaming blockbuster “At the Game.” In preparation for filming, Petrenko learned extreme car driving with stuntmen and a world champion in computer games. In 2009, the first film “At the Game” with the participation of Petrenko was released, and the next – “At the Game-2. New level." Both parts became popular not only in Russia, but also in the USA, making young actors Sergei Chirkov, Pavel Priluchny, Alexei Bardukov and Agnia Ditkovskite famous people with great prospects.

In the same year, Marina played in the films “Only You” and “20 Years Without Love”, the TV series “Kamenskaya-6”, “Group of Happiness” and “Raskol”. The latter became one of the most striking points in her filmography at that time. The plot told about the tragic events of Russian history in the 17th century - the schism of the Orthodox Church. The actress faced a difficult task: according to the director’s plan, she had to play Princess Urusova at two points in time – as a 16-year-old girl and as a 50-year-old woman, wise in life. Marina coped, admitting that for her it was a difficult but very interesting acting experience. Roman Madyanov, Alexander Korshunov, Alexey Morozov and Timofey Tribuntsev worked with her on the set of the series.

Working with such outstanding actors gave Petrenko not only pleasure, but also a lot of experience, which was noted by the organizers of the Reflection youth film festival. In November of the same year, Marina was invited to join the festival jury along with Emmanuel Vitorgan and Alla Surikova.
In 2012, the actress was busy filming a remake of the popular Soviet comedy “Gentlemen of Fortune.” In the new film entitled “Gentlemen, Good Luck!” Marina played the role of police lieutenant Irina Slavina, who introduces the children's center animator Treshkin (Sergei Bezrukov) into a criminal gang and gradually falls in love with him. By the way, Marina embodied the image of a strong and confident woman in several more films of the same year: in the crime drama “Man from Nowhere” and the second season of the series “I’m Coming Out to Look for You.”

A year before the start" and "You are the world!", as well as the film "Legacy".

But many consider Petrenko’s most successful work as a producer to be the series “Quest” (2015). In this film, Marina also appeared in the leading role, playing a journalist who, together with her friends, must find answers to the riddles of a mysterious stranger. Together with the heroes of Pavel Priluchny, Agatha Muceniece and Mikhail Evlanov, Marina examined the documents of Peter I's associate, Jacob Bruce, in order to avoid imminent death from a mysterious poison.

— I heard that the script in “Billion” was changed. True, not because nothing was clear, but because of Suleiman Kerimov . His lady, Marina Petrenko, was cast in the main role. In exchange, the billionaire closed part of the budget, but when he read the script, he was horrified: strangers were touching Petrenko. Moreover, there are sex scenes with her! The former owner of Anzhi demanded that any intimacy be deleted from the film. You were only allowed to look at Petrenko. I always watch movies to the end, but here I wanted to quit halfway through. There was only one thing that kept me going - to see the touch on Marina. I didn't see it. In 101 minutes, the main character was tactilely touched zero times.
