Was there...
Without delaying the intrigue, I would like to say right away that there is no Alexei Germanovich Temnikov.
In 2020, director Anna Matison began filming a film about the fate of a man selflessly devoted to art, for the sake of which he doomed himself to loneliness.
Starring in the film:
- Sergey Bezrukov;
- Alena Babenko;
- Anastasia Bezrukova;
- Karina Andolenko;
- Tamara Akulova;
- Vladimir Menshov;
- Galina Bokashevskaya;
- Stepan Kulikov;
- Maria Smolnikova;
- Sergei Vershinin.
The film was released in March 2020. In the credits of the film there was the phrase “Dedicated to Alexey Temnikov (1976-2016).” It was she who caused the confusion. Fans of Sergei Bezrukov’s work know that the actor gladly agrees to the roles of real characters. Among his most striking works of this nature are the images of Sergei Yesenin, Alexander Pushkin, Vasily Stalin, Vladimir Vysotsky, etc. Moreover, before the release of the film about the famous Soviet bard, its creators for a long time maintained the intrigue, hiding who was hiding behind the magnificent makeup. Many thought that this time there was some kind of mystery connected with the film.

Sergei Bezrukov: Someone dreams of a photo with me, but I dreamed of a selfie with Baryshnikov
The drama “After You” will be released in Russian and Belarusian theaters in March. The actor told how he mastered complex steps, who became the prototype for his character, and which scene was the most difficult.
The image of a genius with a difficult character was not easy for the people's artist.
But his wife always came to the rescue - director Anna Matison.sergeybezrukov.ru "WHITE NIGHTS" LOOKED TO THE HOLES
- In the main character Alexei Temnikov, the image of the ballet genius Mikhail Baryshnikov is clearly discernible.
“He really is my idol.” His work is not confined to the framework of classical ballet - all emotions are expressed in plastic. While he was preparing for filming, he watched the film “White Nights”, where he played the main role. I watched him solo many times to Vysotsky’s song “Fasicky Horses.” I constantly thought about this scene while rehearsing the final dance, after which my hero dies.
Last summer, on tour in Riga, I was lucky enough to meet Mikhail. A wonderful, incredibly humble person! Someone dreams of taking a photo with me, but I dreamed of taking a selfie with Baryshnikov. Words cannot describe how happy I felt when he agreed.
– To play the ballet legend, did you have to stand at the barre for a long time?
– I worked out every day. It helped that when we were students at the Moscow Art Theater School, our teachers tormented us with dance lessons. I still remember many of them. Therefore, he acted in almost all scenes himself. An understudy was only needed during the jumps - you can't master them quickly.
The final dance was choreographed by Moldovan choreographer Radu Poklitaru. I asked him: “Make comments, I’m still a dramatic artist, I don’t understand anything about ballet.” To which Radu thoughtfully replied: “I’m so passionate about your game that I don’t see any inaccuracies. I think everything is great."
The long-awaited meeting with the great dancer took place last summer in Riga. instagram.com/s_bezrukov/
I CAN'T PLAY A DRUNK PERSON
– Recently I had a role in the film “Vysotsky. Thank you for being alive". And again they played a hero with a bad character.
– I tried to soften Temnikov’s temperament. In the scene where the character is rehearsing with the artists of the Mariinsky Theater, I caught myself thinking: I work according to the same scheme as with the actors of my Provincial Theater. Immediately he relaxed on camera and started joking. Director Anya Matison noticed this and immediately stopped it: “It’s not good. Every second your hero must be a tough man."
I have never been as bad as in the film After You. Perhaps my fans won’t even like this role.
– What made you nervous while filming?
– You’ll be surprised, but it was absolutely impossible to play the scene where the hero decides to get drunk. No matter how hard I tried. Mathieson repeated the same thing: “Let’s take another take.” I was angry with myself - such sketches are staged even in the first year of the acting department. And how many drunks have you already outplayed? Can't count!
At some point I finally realized what the mistake was. Temnikov is one of those types of people who, even in a drunken state, cannot completely relax, and are constantly focused on some thought. And when I played it, the director immediately approved: “Now I’ve got it - it’s really drunk Temnikov.”
– Many viewers ask: why was the film given the title “After You”?
– Now I’ll try to explain. This story is not about ballet, but about a man with a steely character. Who understood that he was dying and wondered: “What will remain after me?” He spent his last strength trying to shine on stage once again. As a result, he destroyed himself.
When we presented the drama at the Tokyo International Festival, people came up to us and said: “The right hero died happy.” For the Japanese, such a samurai act is par for the course.
– You’ve probably asked yourself the same thing more than once...
– More than once... Therefore, together with the Konstantin Khabensky Charitable Foundation, we came up with a campaign to help children who are struggling with serious illnesses. In cinemas, before watching the film, a short SMS number for donations will be indicated on the screens. Anyone who wants can send any amount. Even ten rubles can save someone's life.
INTERESTING FACTS
The film's script was written by director Anna Matison specifically for Sergei Bezrukov. After filming, in March 2020, the couple got married.
People's Artist of Moldova Radu Poklitaru helped Bezrukov to understand the basics of ballet art. The choreographer was born in Chisinau, but lived in Minsk for a long time. He graduated from the Belarusian Academy of Music, where his teacher was People's Artist of the USSR Valentin Elizariev. He collaborated with the Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus and the Minsk Musical Theatre.
In two episodes of the film, artistic director of the Mariinsky Theater Valery Gergiev starred as himself.
Maya Plisetskaya was supposed to participate in the film. However, during filming, the great ballerina passed away. The directors took her famous phrase as an epigraph: “Don’t humble yourself. Don't give up until the very end. Character is destiny.”
On the main character’s desk, an attentive viewer will see a photograph of Plisetskaya, and on the wall of his office - graffiti with her image. The film also features music for the ballet Carmen Suite, in which she danced one of her main roles.
WHAT IS THE MOVIE ABOUT
The career of the famous ballet dancer Alexei Temnikov was interrupted in the 1990s due to spinal damage. For many years the dancer has lived in Klin, near Moscow, works in his own ballet school and runs a chain of pharmacies. But this does not bring joy. “I was like Mozart, but I became like Salieri,” says Temnikov. Meanwhile, the disease progresses - paralysis is ahead, which for the hero is tantamount to death. Twenty years after leaving the profession, Alexey Temnikov decides to fulfill his old dream: to stage Igor Stravinsky’s ballet “Symphony of Three Movements” on the big stage.

Sergei Bezrukov himself put an end to the disputes. In an interview with the KP radio station, he literally said: “The image has no prototype, it is a collective character.”
Some saw Mikhail Baryshnikov in Bezrukov’s hero. However, the filmmakers, in particular director Anna Matison, claim that the biography of Alexei Temnikov was invented from beginning to end.

Who is the prototype?
Many who watched the film “After You” had a feeling of the reality of the film’s hero. After all, even the credits tell the viewer that the film is dedicated to ballet dancer Alexei Temnikov. And after watching, the audience was puzzled as to which ballet dancer it could be, who is the prototype of the film’s hero.
But, to the disappointment of some viewers who believed in the reality of events, the character is fictitious. There was no such person as Alexey Temnikov. But the film directed by Anna Matison very well shows the moments that happened in real life to people of this profession. They, who achieved success and fame, were forgotten for years, and sometimes forever, after dizzying success, they passed away.
What is the film about: premise
The creators of the film “After You” begin to introduce the viewer to the biography of Alexei Temnikov from the period of his life when the dancer’s career was at its peak.
The gifted dancer is constantly in the media's field of view. In their articles, journalists give the highest marks to his skill and call him a rising star. Intoxicated with success, Alexey expects even more, especially since he is about to tour in the United States, during which he hopes to conquer the American public.
However, the dancer's dreams are not destined to come true. The creators of the film do not directly disclose the reason why the artist Alexey Temnikov (the biography is fictitious from beginning to end) received an injury that put an end to his career. Only in one scene does the viewer see that the dancer is drunk before going on stage. So Temnikov’s star fades before it has time to flare up to its full potential.
But Alexey is not one of those who give up. He returns to his provincial town and opens a ballet school. In the success of this enterprise he is helped by a big name, which the viewer has not yet forgotten.
Summary
The film After You is not about ballet. This is a film about a man who repeatedly asked himself the question of what would remain in the world after him. And I was desperately looking for an answer to it. All 20 years after the injury, Alexey Temnikov, a ballet dancer whose biography and photo were familiar all over the world, was looking for ways to return to his favorite business. But his pride literally brought him to death. He could not refuse to film live on one of the country's leading channels in the program “Let Them Talk.” And two days before the premiere of his ballet at the Mariinsky Theater, he goes to Moscow. An attempt to prove that he is a great artist and choreographer led him to death while performing his last dance in his life. He did not give up, but fought until his last breath, still proving that he was the best.
What he wanted, of course, he got. But this was posthumous recognition and glory. And the ballet staged was a triumph in many cities and countries. On the anniversary of his death, a film about him was released on the same prestigious channel. And even if posthumously, they started talking about ballet dancer Alexei Temnikov again. In Wikipedia, a genius looks at us from a photo, not resigned to his fate.
Thanks to Sergei Bezrukov for the image of a brilliant artist created from scratch, in whose reality the audience believed!
Unexpected fatherhood
Nowadays it is ridiculous to hope to spend your life as a hermit, without passions and emotions. Sooner or later, fate will throw some surprise, and more often than not one, and will destroy the prosperous, quiet world to which you are so accustomed.
So, one day Maria enters the office of former ballet dancer Alexei Temnikov (“biography” in his youth is presented above). She tells him that she is pregnant and it is too late to do anything. Alexey is not particularly moved by this message. He simply promises Maria to support her and their unborn child financially. But is this what a girl who is expecting a child and dreams of a happy family life wants?
The surprises don't end there. It turns out that the hermit has been the father of a charming girl named Chiara for 12 years. Her mother Nika informs Alexey about this. Like the previous visit, the visit to the ex-girlfriend does not make any impression on Temnikov. Nevertheless, he does not refuse the offer to spend the day with the girl. Chiara turned out to be an unusually calm and obedient girl. Alexey hardly felt her presence. The same cannot be said about Chiara, who closely watched her father, trying to understand what kind of person he was. As a child of the digital age, Chiara searches the Internet for information about Temnikov and learns that he was a man with a difficult character, with many enemies.

Main article: Serebro § History
Serebro in Helsinki, 2007.
In March 2007, the selection committee of Channel One sent the unknown group Serebro to represent Russia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2007[4], where they performed the song “Song #1” and took third place[5]. “Song #1” topped the Russian radio chart[6], and also managed to get into the national charts of Switzerland[7], Sweden[8] and other countries. In the same year, the first Russian-language and second single “Breathe” was released, which peaked at No. 2 in the official Russian radio chart[9]. At the end of the year, Serebro won in the categories “Best Debut” at the MTV Russia Music Awards and “Best Selling Russian Artist” at the World Music Awards.
In 2008, the singles “Opium” and “Say Don’t Be Silent” were released, which both topped the Russian radio chart[10][11]. The band's debut album was expected to be released that same year, but it took place in 2009. Also for the first time for the band, the track entered the national charts of Belgium and Italy and peaked at No. 6 in both countries[15][16] and was able to get into Billboard

The final countdown has begun
Suddenly the hero becomes ill. He and the girl go to the capital to see a doctor they know. On the way, they communicate, and he realizes that he has not talked to anyone for such a long time for many years.
The doctor reports that soon Temnikov will not be able to walk at all. The reason is an old injury. Alexey suddenly realizes that he can no longer put off the realization of his old dream - staging a modern ballet about the creation of the world, from the Big Cosmic Bang to the emergence of life.
Straight from the hospital, Temnikov hurries to the theater, where he talks about his idea to the artistic director of the ballet, Martynov. He has long disliked Alexey and, although the idea seems interesting to him, refuses to support him.
Broken Temnikov returns home. He is consumed by the question of what he will leave behind. Alexey cannot find an answer to it, so he does not want to see anyone. He spends the next few days locked in his apartment. However, the flood that happened in his home forces Temnikov to move to his office for a while.

Dancing school
The injury turned out to be very serious, I had to forget about the stage and ballet. Alexey, having returned to his homeland, to the provincial town of Klin near Moscow, opens a dance school-studio. His house is located in close proximity to the studio, but, as the viewer notices, he covers even this short section of the journey by car. At school, he locks himself in his office, away from people and their problems. He doesn’t expect support from anyone, not because there are no people willing, he just doesn’t want it himself. Over time, his complex character turned the world-famous ballet dancer Alexei Temnikov, an undeniably talented person, into a completely lonely person.
What is he doing at the studio school? There is no need to go to classes, the process is smooth and does not require his intervention. He appears only in VIP classes - this is his only duty. He understands that the disease is progressing, and, as his Moscow doctor said, he will soon not be able to walk.
Wrong choice
Returning to work has a beneficial effect on Alexey. He decides to start transforming his school and find a student who can be trusted to dance a new ballet. Unfortunately, such a young man is not in the studio. Then Temnikov decides to work with his former graduate Roma, especially since the young man himself came to Alexey with a request to stage a number for him to participate in a dance show on one of the TV channels.
The former dancer enthusiastically gets down to business. Rehearsals follow one after another. However, when Roma, after his performance, tells the jury who the author of the piece is, its members vote against the novice dancer. Moreover, experts speak negatively about Temnikov, since at one time the former star had conflicts with almost all of his colleagues.

a swan song
Dancer Alexey Temnikov, whose biography was invented by the creators of the film “After You,” understands that it’s not about the number, but about the performer. He tells his daughter about this, with whom he has become very close lately.
Analyzing his life, Temnikov comes to the conclusion that not all is lost. After all, he has Chiara and will soon have another baby. Alexey proposes to Maria, openly talking about his illness, and introduces her to his parents. It would seem that everything is getting better in the life of the former star, but a call comes from the theater. Its management decided to entrust Alexey with the production of the ballet “Symphony in 3 Movements”.
The call becomes fatal. Temnikov forgets about everything in the world and hurries to the theater. Work on the play begins. Alexey does not spare himself. Finally, everything is almost ready. For Temnikov’s 40th birthday, he is invited to a talk show. There, one of the guests accuses him of failing Roma's number at the dance show. Alexey begins to defend his work and, to prove that he is right, decides to dance himself. Temnikov’s performance amazes the audience, and then he makes the last jump...
The film is interrupted and a short documentary about the artist is shown. It ends with words of dedication to the memory of Alexei Germanovich Temnikov, whose biography is tragic from beginning to end.

Difficult relationships with women
No matter how Alexey closed himself off from everyone in his studio and ordered not to let strangers in, he meets Marina. She is pregnant, already at an advanced stage. She simply loves him and asks him not to push him away, but to take her as his wife. But Temnikov never said that he wanted to live with her. He agreed to support and help, but nothing more. It’s just that ballet dancer Alexey Temnikov doesn’t want to let anyone into his isolated world.
It just so happened that at the very time when he found out that Marina had a baby, the secret was revealed that he had been a father for 12 years and had a daughter. At the urgent request of his daughter, who really wants to meet her father, Nika, a woman he previously dated, brings him a paternity test. Obviously, Temnikov asked to do it, it remained behind the scenes. The viewer already becomes an eyewitness to the scene of Alexey's acquaintance with the test results confirming paternity.
