A frank interview with Ekaterina Guseva about the stage, filming, life and love

Persistent suitor

Ekaterina met her future husband while still studying at the theater institute. One day she was invited to participate in the filming of the program “Russian Lotto”. It was there that businessman Vladimir Abashkin noticed her. At that time, he was married, but he could not control his feelings and began to actively court a young student.

At first, Catherine did not take her new admirer seriously, although the girl did not have a serious relationship at that time. She was somewhat embarrassed by the age difference, because Vladimir is ten years older than Catherine. Plus, the boyfriend’s marital status was also not a plus for him.

However, Abashkin did not give up and eventually won the beauty’s heart. As soon as Catherine reciprocated his feelings, he divorced his wife and married his new chosen one. The wedding took place in 1996.

Movies

Ekaterina Guseva's career took off in 1997, when she completed an acting course, received a diploma, and with it her first film role. Guseva’s filmography started with a role in the thriller “Snake Spring”, where the main roles belonged to established cinema stars Olga Ostroumova and Evgeny Mironov.

Ekaterina Guseva in the TV series “Brigade”

After which Ekaterina received an offer to supplement the troupe of the theater “At the Nikitsky Gates”. In 2002, she starred in “The Brigade,” which thundered throughout the country and neighboring countries, starring Sergei Bezrukov, Dmitry Dyuzhev, Pavel Maykov, Vladimir Vdovichenkov, and Andrei Panin.

Ekaterina Guseva in the series “Hunting for Manchurian deer”

After working in the cult series, the girl received offers from the creators of the projects “The Intimate Life of Sevastyan Bakhov”, “Looking for a Bride without a Dowry”, “Heaven and Earth”, “Wapit Hunting”, “Thank you for the Love!”. In the melodrama “A Walk in Paris,” Guseva starred with her own son Alexei. In 2012, the actress appeared in the action film “Brigada. The Heir”, where Ivan Makarevich played the main role.

Othello

True, as in any family, even this ideal couple has disagreements and conflicts. The reason for this is the jealousy of Catherine’s husband, who watches literally every step of his wife. When the artist took part in the filming of the Ice Age show, Vladimir was very jealous of her figure skating partner, Roman Kostomarov.

It is also known that the businessman has a sharply negative attitude towards intimate scenes involving his wife. Even innocent episodes with kisses cause him to have an attack of jealousy, so Catherine has to somehow coordinate these working moments with her chosen one.

Ekaterina Guseva Staged photography

The famous actress Ekaterina Guseva is a passionate and passionate person. She likes to experiment, set new goals and objectives. Katya knows how to be different not only in films and on stage, but also in life. Fans never cease to be amazed by her numerous talents and transformations.

Ekaterina Guseva is a famous actress. In our “Star Lesson” section, Ekaterina Guseva tries herself as a photographer.

Today, in our “Star Lesson” column, Ekaterina Guseva is trying herself as a photographer. We conducted a 4-hour masterclass for Katya on the topic “Stage Photography”. Recently, a Canon advertisement appeared on television, in which Ekaterina starred as a paparazzi and professionally handles photographic equipment. Of course, we wanted to invite the actress to the Star Lesson project - Ekaterina agreed. Together with photographer Yulia Chernova, we came up with four New Year's stories based on the fairy tales of Hans Christian Andersen. We shot beautiful photo fairy tales based on the works of the great writer - “Kai and Gerda”, “Tangerine Dream”, “Ballerina’s Dressing Room” and “An Unexpected Surprise” in two passes. Ekaterina worked on the first part of the photo stories, and their continuation was photographed by the owner of the studio herself, Yulia. Thanks to the incredible imagination of Yulia and her team, and, of course, Katya’s talent, we got some interesting New Year’s photos.

The project involved: Clothing designers: Karina USTINOVA, Evgenia BOLGOVA and Tatiana VLASOVA (costumes and accessories from SewFASHION, [email protected] Models: Kai - Andrey Kurchenko, Gerda - Maya Gorbacheva (model agency "FoxFilm"), Ballerina - Phoebe , Little Match Girl - Margarita Tsyplikhina, Eastern Princess - Olga Burnaeva. Make-up artist: Elena Bukh. Film crew: author of the idea and scenery Yulia Chernova (art director and leading photographer of the photo studio U.Studio), Oleg Burnaev (photographer of U.Studio), Roman Myznikov (designer of U.Studio), Ksenia Kasparova (assistant designer of U.Studio), Leonid Sedachev (sculptor, student of the Russian Academy of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture), students of U.Studio.

Scene No. 1: “Kai and Gerda” (fairy tale “The Snow Queen”) Room, design work, characters Photo shooting was carried out in a tiny, only plastered room without windows and with a sloping ceiling (this made it possible to achieve a “fairytale” resemblance to a room under the very roof , although in reality U.Studio is located in the basement). The closet had to be transformed into a room where Kai and Gerda warm themselves by the fireplace and chat with each other. A blizzard rushes in here “from the street”, after which a piece of the Snow Queen’s mirror gets into Kai’s eye and “an icy cold shackles his heart”... Our team created “comfort” in the room with the help of pots of artificial flowers and ordinary multi-colored napkins, which were pasted instead of wallpaper on the wall. The ceiling was also camouflaged - with paper previously soaked in ordinary tea leaves to give it a “smoky” look. The “fireplace” was set up in a niche with the help of lit candles and a lighting fixture with a red filter. Instead of "window shutters" they used parts of a wooden shelf. And our blizzard came from a can of artificial snow. Now the main thing: Andryusha Kurchenko and Maya Gorbacheva were called to play the role of Kai and Gerda. The guys sing in the children's group “Domisolka”, and, surprisingly, they turned out to be familiar with Ekaterina. “We perform together!” - our fairy-tale characters proudly declared.

Suddenly, a gust of strong wind opened the shutters. Kai rushed to close them. Along with the blizzard, the room is filled with snow flakes, among which is the fatal fragment of the Snow Queen's mirror...

Like many winter evenings, Kai and Gerda spend this evening together - warming themselves by the fireplace, playing and chatting. Their modest room is located under the very roof of the house. Plot No. 2: “The Tangerine Dream” (the fairy tale “The Nightingale”) Additional special effects: 1. Incense - used to create smoke in the cage. Behind the refrigerator sat a man with two ashtrays in which incense was burned, creating a white cloud. 2. Soap bubbles - launched using special pistols. After several takes, it was decided to replace the bubbles with artificial snow. 3. For the first part of the plot, a lighting device with a red filter was placed inside the refrigerator, so it seemed to glow from the inside. Premises, design work, characters The shooting took place in the photo studio hall, which is still considered the main one. This is where Yulia usually films and gives craft lessons. This is where the studio light and paper backdrop hanger are located. At the same time, the spacious room serves as a living room. To realize the plot based on the fairy tale “The Nightingale”, the guys gave free rein to their imagination and assembled the interior from literally nothing - the studio refrigerator, which stood peacefully near the wall, migrated to the center of the composition and turned into a warehouse for tangerines, a birdcage was built from improvised materials by a novice jack of all trades sculptor Leonid Sedachev. Olga Burnaeva, Yulia’s friend, was called to play the role of the oriental beauty in “Tangerine Dream”. The girl was made up and dressed in a kimono-style robe, specially sewn by needlewomen from SewFASHION. The huge spherical lamp became the largest “tangerine” that our model Olya had ever held in her hands.

One eastern princess loved her nightingale and... tangerines more than anything in the world. One New Year's Eve, when the royal refrigerator was already filled to capacity with tangerines for the upcoming holiday, she snuck into the kitchen and fulfilled her old dream - she ate plenty. Scene No. 3: “The Ballerina’s Dressing Room” (the fairy tale “The Tin Soldier”) There is a small dressing room at U.Studio, and they filmed there. To make it more spacious, we had to empty the room of hangers and decorations. Foil film was glued to the walls. The dressing table was painted bluish-silver and decorated with cosmetics and perfumes. A frame was made for the mirror from New Year's tinsel, and the edges were sprinkled with snow from a spray can. The lighting fixtures were arranged to create the effect of a theatrical dressing room. In the doorway - opposite the mirror - three devices with different (blue, green, red) filters were installed one above the other. By the way, there weren’t enough holders for filters; additional fasteners were made from scrap materials - hangers and tape. Julia’s favorite model, Phoebe, turned into a ballerina. Our “student” Ekaterina Guseva, apparently, especially liked working on this “theatrical” plot: she wanted the model to completely immerse herself in the image of her heroine.

A courier suddenly enters the dressing room. The ballerina turns around and sees a bouquet of fragrant lilies with a note from her beloved. It turns out that he came to watch her performance... Photo: Yulia Chernova

The beautiful Ballerina, lost in thought, sits at her dressing table. She should be preparing to go on stage, but her thoughts are far away. The girl looks detachedly at her reflection in the mirror, does not notice the passage of time, completely surrendering to her dreams. She is sad and lonely without her lover - the Tin Soldier... Photo: Ekaterina Guseva

Plot No. 4: “An Unexpected Surprise” (fairy tale “The Little Match Girl”) Premises, design work, characters According to the plot, the fairy tale takes place on the street, on the steps of an old house. How can you do something like this in a photo studio? Don't really go outside. Everything - it turned out to be quite simple - used the stairs leading to the studio. To make the interior look fabulous, the walls were decorated with film sprinkled with artificial snow, candles were lit on the steps, and the floor was covered with foam “snow.” The coldness was added with blue filters, and the main character’s face was illuminated through a yellow filter. The falling snow in the frame is, again, from a spray can. Andersen's fairy tale "The Little Match Girl" ends tragically, but we are optimists and came up with our own version: our girl does not freeze to death, but remains in perfect health, and even receives an unexpected gift. The girl with the matches was played by the photo editor of one of the Moscow magazines, Margarita Tsyplikhina. During the shooting, Ekaterina Guseva, as an experienced actress, tried different poses and angles, paid a lot of attention to the “correct” look of the model, made many takes, wanting to achieve the “correct” shot.

Having decided that the great storyteller Andersen would not mind if a miracle happened on New Year's Eve, we made our “little match girl” frost-resistant. The girl survived and found gifts under a snow-covered spruce branch: candles, a toy hare, and most importantly, a typewriter. Very soon the girl will become a famous writer and become famous for her fairy tales full of warmth. Photo: Yulia Chernova

Frosty winter night. The girl was completely frozen. Trying to stay warm, she lights the last match. The cold recedes, but only for a moment. It seems that nothing can help the poor thing escape from certain death... Photo: Ekaterina Guseva

Ekaterina Guseva “Photography should radiate warmth!”

Ekaterina, tell us what role does photography play in your life? You know, I have always been partial to photography. I have a lot of photographs. I will definitely bring interesting photos from my travels. Just this year I managed to visit France, Israel, Turkey, the Czech Republic... I treat photographs with great trepidation, because they depict the lives of my closest people, my life... True, all hands cannot get around to putting things in order in the photo archive - something is stored in albums, something on flash drives... And with the advent of Canon PIXMA and iP5200 Selphy CP730 printers at home, there are even more photographs, because not only my husband and I print them, but also our son Alyosha. It’s great that now you can easily and quickly take high-quality photographs even at home! And I can generally take the Selphy CP730 with me anywhere - the printer fits in my bag and produces ready-made images in just a minute. As a person in the public profession, this makes me doubly happy: I no longer have to trust the press to strangers, the details of my personal life do not escape beyond the confines of our apartment. Which is better: film or digital? A matter of taste. Who likes what. I understand: there are fans who are still fascinated by film. But I still prefer digital printing. Its beauty is that you can instantly receive and evaluate the result of the work done. It seems to me that this is very important now, because the modern world lives in new rhythms and at different speeds, not the same as before. Need to match! And also, in my opinion, digital captures falsehood better and is able to more subtly reproduce any emotional shades.

Today, almost no publication can do without processing images in Photoshop. How do you feel about computer “witchcraft”? I think everything is good in moderation. You need to use Photoshop correctly, and not turn a person into someone he really is not. Take a look at the covers of glossy magazines - this is “one” face! If you meet any Western film star in reality, you might be very surprised; it’s not for nothing that there is a definition of “victim of Photoshop.” Yes, a computer can hide flaws, but “beauty from Photoshop” often turns out somehow preserved and lifeless... I think it’s wrong to replicate an image that has been idealized beyond recognition. You work in cinema, play in the theater, participate in the amazing show “Stars on Ice”, recently recorded a music disc and give concerts... You are photographed a lot - photographers are omnipresent! They will lie in wait on the set and during rehearsal. Have you ever been unhappy or upset about your photographs appearing in the press? No... I don’t remember this. I guess I'm lucky, photographers love me. Counter question: do you like photographers? I respect their work very much. Every talented person and professional is worthy of praise and admiration. Of course, if a photographer behaves impudently - say, abuses the flash when asked otherwise - this is unpleasant. How did you feel as a paparazzo in the Canon commercial you recently starred in? Great! (Smiles). I want to emphasize that the image I created has little resemblance to paparazzi in the generally accepted meaning of the word. I was not the paparazzi who seeks to catch an unsightly shot of some celebrity, but a photographer carrying out a secret task, an important mission. My heroine was on guard for dangerous criminals, and, perhaps, thanks to her staff, the world was saved! The author of the advertisement is virtuoso Andy Morahan. He repeated: we are not making a video, but a movie! And indeed, he managed to fit a dynamic and exciting plot into 15 seconds! By the way, soon you will be able to see the continuation of this mini-film. Can you share the details? I won’t reveal all my cards, let the intrigue remain. Let me just say that we filmed the second part of the video in an incredible skyscraper in Prague. From the top floors of the building one could watch flocks of migratory birds! The impressions are amazing. When we completed the work, Andy promised me the lead role in his first Hollywood blockbuster. I asked why in a blockbuster? To which Andy said: “Melodrama is not your genre!”

How did it happen that you started advertising Canon? I am very careful about promotional offers. I won’t lie: they do a lot of them for me, including those related to equipment. But I must be one hundred percent convinced that I will present a product of the best quality; I cannot recommend people to buy dubious products. At Canon, I am sure that the company deservedly bears the status of one of the world leaders in the field of technology, including photographic technology. I know about Canon firsthand - I’ve used their large film camera for many years. It has now been replaced by the Digital IXUS800 IS. What photo projects have you participated in? I have photographed with many artists. She worked with Ekaterina Rozhdestvenskaya in her wonderful projects “Associations”, “Private Collection”, “19th Century”, “12 Months”. She cast me in the roles of Pauline Viardot and Queen Victoria, turned me into “Gold” and “February Blizzard”. And another photographer, Andrei Bronnikov, tormented me all day during a photo shoot for Domovoy magazine. Everything about that shoot was about fire. What haven't we done? They burned coals and branches... And they inhaled so much smoke! Andrei's studio is located at his home, the neighbors even started knocking on us, we were making so much noise. I was simply incredibly tired then—in the breaks between filming I had to run around on other errands—but when I saw the finished photographs, I realized that the result was worth the time and effort. Based on that “fiery” photo shoot, they even held an entire exhibition at the Manege. Also, in November I starred for the cover of the famous fashion magazine ELLE. I was given an unforgettable trip to Paris, filmed in a luxurious studio, where world-class stars are photographed for the most popular glossy publications. Monica Bellucci loves filming there... Yes! I recently had a fantastic underwater photo shoot... In general, I shoot a lot. I would also like to mention the masters Vlad Loktev, Alexey Sedov, Anton Lange... It’s a shame that I can’t name all the photographers with whom I’ve worked! And the project “Photo Delo Cult” is actually something special; I have never participated in anything like it. I say sincerely: I really enjoyed our joint filming, it was extremely interesting and informative. Just a fairy tale, and that’s all! What was most important for you in the process of filming our fairy tale scenes? Firstly, I listened carefully to what Julia was saying. Her advice will certainly serve me well in the future. Secondly, I tried to make the guys I photograph feel comfortable. Should I not know what it means to be under the gun of a lens! Trusting relationships give rise to sympathy, the model can relax and begins to behave more naturally. The camera loves it. When I photographed “Kai and Gerda,” I really wanted to ensure that Maya and Andryusha were not clingy and were not afraid to play pranks. Hooliganism is so childish! I didn’t say: “Stop making faces!” And she asked a question: has the fragment of the mirror already hit Kai in the heart, or not? This was a surprise for the boy, he became thoughtful, and as a result I caught a good moment. When I worked on “Tangerine Dream” with Olya, I tried to get a slight slyness from the girl. And she even shared with her a professional secret: to make mischief appear in their eyes, actors sometimes resort to this technique - they hide their hand with... a cookie behind their back! I think the advice was useful and everything turned out great! By the way, do tangerines make you associate with the New Year? Thank God, in my childhood there was no shortage of tangerines. Once I even managed to eat one and a half kilograms! New Year's Eve for me, first of all, is dinner with my family. The closest and dearest get together, discuss the successes of the past year, give each other love, and gifts, of course. Last question: what is a good photograph for you? Any creativity should bring joy. It may sound a little naive, but a good photograph is when you look at it and your soul becomes warm.

Katya, thank you. In our fabulous project you took just such photos! Yulia Chernova, photographer: “Any profession requires such qualities as hard work, learning ability and a creative approach. Ekaterina Guseva possesses all these qualities 1000%! Whatever she does: act in films, sing on stage, or skate on ice, Katya always strives for the best result. This happened during our lesson. I was amazed by her ability to clearly perceive the task, attention to detail, calmness and discipline. The main difficulty of shooting is working with a fashion model. The photographer must, in a very short time, establish contact with an unfamiliar person, as a rule, create an atmosphere of trust and explain the acting task. Catherine succeeded in this from the very first minutes. I would like to note it - a scrupulous approach to showing in models exactly the emotion that is needed in a particular situation: be it the melancholic thoughtfulness of a ballerina in love, the cunning in the eyes of an oriental princess who was caught eating tangerines at night, Kai’s coquetry, or faith and hope in There’s something wonderful about the plot of “An Unexpected Surprise.” I had great pleasure working with Ekaterina Guseva. I think if she wanted to become a professional photographer, not a single internal or external obstacle would arise on her creative path!”
