Sergey Shakurov: biography, personal life, family, wife, children - photo

Biography

Sergei Shakurov was born during the Great Patriotic War in Moscow into a Tatar-Russian family. He recalls his childhood: “Yes, I am a native Muscovite. My father was famous throughout Belokamennaya as the best hunter - he had a kennel for sixteen dogs. He was constantly busy and we saw him very rarely. Therefore, my mother was involved in my upbringing, or rather, she was not involved at all. I am the fourth, youngest child in the family. Ten years later, he was born and grew up under the supervision of his brothers and sister. And my mother never lectured me, did not lecture me, did not scold me for failing grades, absenteeism and hooliganism. Even when parents were called to school, a brother or sister went to school. So my parents did not spoil me with their attention. I grew up on my own."

At the age of ten, Sergei joined the acrobatics section of the Labor Reserves society. There, for the first time, an outlet was found for his irrepressible energy, stubbornness, temperament, and strength. Acrobatics taught me body control, risk and caution, and the ability to rely primarily on myself. Subsequently, Shakurov became a master of sports.

While studying in the seventh grade, Sergei Shakurov unexpectedly entered the drama club. After eighth grade he dropped out of school and went to work at a factory to help his family financially. But combining work, rehearsals and training was difficult. Sergei faced a choice. “... of two hobbies - acting and sports - the first took over. Everything in my life happened by chance. That's how I got into the drama club. And, I must say, I was not happy with the rehearsals. But then I got involved, something started to work out for me, and I quit acrobatics,” recalls the actor. Another happy accident influenced this decision: the famous playwright Viktor Rozov once stopped by the drama club’s rehearsal. He advised the young actor he liked to go to study at the studio school at the Central Children's Theater. The master's patronage played its role, Sergei Shakurov was accepted, studied and in 1964 received an acting education.

Childhood and youth

Sergei Shakurov was born on January 1, 1942 in Moscow, during the difficult war years for the country. Russian and Tatar blood flows in the actor’s veins. His father, Kayum Tuffitovich, a native of the Tatar village of Bakrchi, was a professional hunter and jack of all trades. He kept a kennel for 16 dogs and often went hunting, and then sold game and skins.

Olga Shcheglova’s mother, head of the Brain Institute, and aunt of the famous Soviet cartoonist Yevgeny Shcheglova, was also a busy woman.

In elementary school, Shakurov, whose good athletic abilities were noticed in a pioneer camp, took up acrobatics in the “Labor Reserves” section, and later became a master of sports and a champion of Moscow. The teenager was repeatedly invited to the Moscow Circus on Tsvetnoy Boulevard, which was in desperate need of acrobats, but this idea did not attract Sergei.

In the 7th grade, the boy became interested in theater and began attending a drama club. Sports and theater activities greatly distracted the boy from his studies - he remained in the second year, often changing schools. As a result, to his mother's disappointment, Shakurov did not finish his studies at school - without a certificate he was accepted into the studio at the Central Children's Theater (RAMT).

Theater

Over the years, Shakurov served at the Theater on Malaya Bronnaya, at the Central Academic Theater of the Soviet Army, at the Moscow Drama Theater named after K.S. Stanislavsky, at the Moscow Theater for Young Spectators. Since the late eighties he became a private actor.

Sergei Shakurov has played dozens of roles. He worked with such directors as Anatoly Efros, Leonid Kheifits, Leonid Trushkin, Viktor Shamirov, Andrey Zhitinkin, Pavel Ursul, Henrietta Yanovskaya and others. On the theater stage, Shakurov created very bright, dynamic, dissimilar images. Among his works: The Jester in the play “The Death of Ivan the Terrible” based on the play by A. Tolstoy, Bestuzhev in “The Secret Society”, Cyrano de Bergerac and Hamlet in productions of the same name, Arbenin in “Masquerade”, policeman Peshkin in “The Accidental Happiness of Policeman Peshkin”.

The star cast of stage partners with whom Sergei Shakurov had the opportunity to work can be the envy of not only beginning actors, but also eminent ones. Over a career spanning more than half a century, the actor played with Lev Durov, Natalya Gundareva, Alla Balter, Alexei Guskov, Lyudmila Gurchenko, Viktor Proskurin, Olga Volkova, Dmitry Maryanov, Chulpan Khamatova, Maria Aronova and many other equally famous artists.

Currently, Sergei Shakurov continues to work closely with various Moscow theaters, playing with talented young actors. So, in the Modern Theater of Enterprises, Shakurov shines in the ensemble with Mikhail Politsemako, Sergei Nikonenko and Maria Aronova in “Little Comedies” based on the famous works of A.P. Chekhov, and in the Private Theater he plays with Daniil Spivakovsky and Igor Ugolnikov in the comedy “Bad Habits”.

In 1989, Sergei Shakurov took part in an interesting project at the intersection of theater and cinema, starring in the one-man show “Poltava” based on the poem of the same name by A.S. Pushkin. The work was a great success, and later the actor returned to the imperishable work of the classic and read “Angelo” from the screen.

The artist himself calls the theatrical stage his main calling. According to Sergei Kayumovich, he spends less effort and energy on cinema, perceiving filming in film projects as his hobby. Nevertheless, Shakurov’s heroes turn into bright and original images that excite the imagination of the audience. The actor is used to doing his work efficiently, so he often refuses projects that he considers second-rate.

In 2020, Sergei Kayumovich played a minor character in the crime series “Torgsin”, which also starred Alexandra Bortich, Grigory Antipenko, Alexander Nosik, Sergei Gorobchenko, Ekaterina Klimova.

In 2018, Shakurov appeared in the main cast of the melodramatic series “Beryozka” about the everyday life of a popular Soviet dance ensemble. The actor is currently working on the role of Krushevsky Sr. in the drama “Mutiny.” The film is set in the 20s of the 20th century. Against the backdrop of the Civil War, a story of love and hatred, loyalty and betrayal unfolds. The main characters on the screen will be represented by Lyubov Aksyonova, Yuri Chursin, Alexey Bardukov.

Sergei Shakurov in 2018

In the fall of 2020, the actor appeared in the project of the STS channel “Molodezhka”. In the 6th season, Shakurov played the role of the main candidate for coach of the VHL hockey club “Metalist”.

Cinema

The number of films in which Sergei Shakurov starred is approaching a hundred. Many films with his participation are included in the Golden Fund of the country's film library.

Sergei Shakurov made his film debut in 1966 in the role of Pegakov in the film “I am a soldier, mother” by Manos Zacharias. The next work was Sasha Mukhin in the comedy “Wake up Mukhin”.

Among the actor’s bright roles: Margoslin in Marlen Khutsiev’s military drama “It Was the Month of May”, Gololobov in Leonid Kvinikhidze’s comedy “The Artist from Gribov”, Grigory Bazovskin in Leonid Agranovich’s melodrama “The Statute of Limitations”, the oligarch in Yuri Stytskovsky’s drama “Stupid Star”.

It is worth noting the most famous works of Sergei Shakurov. In 1974, Nikita Mikhalkov’s historical adventure film “One Among Strangers, a Stranger Among Friends” was released on the country’s screens, where the artist played Zabelin. This film, unusual for that time, became the first Soviet Western and made the actors who starred in it extremely popular. Subsequently, Sergei Shakurov called this picture one of his favorites.

Sergei Shakurov tries not to repeat himself in his roles. He played the famous choreographer Mikhail Fokin in the biopic of Emil Loteanu, Anna Pavlova. The film very expressively and authentically shows the birth of Russian ballet. To create the image of the great Fokin, Sergei Shakurov had to “disappear” for several months in the dance class of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Musical Theater.

The role of ship mechanic Gavrilov in Pyotr Todorovsky’s melodrama “The Beloved Woman of Mechanic Gavrilov” became completely different in character and content. Shakurov's duet with the unsurpassed Lyudmila Gurchenko was undoubtedly remembered by the viewer. The actor himself recalls this work: “... agreed to act because he understood: it’s not so easy to play a role without a single word. I played a man who is talked about throughout the film and whose appearance everyone is looking forward to, and he appears only at the very end of the film. It’s funny to say, but I only filmed for half a day!”

One of the best works of the actor, which cannot be ignored, is filming a detective story based on the novel by the Weiner brothers “A Visit to the Minotaur” by Eldor Urazbaev. Here Sergei Shakurov played two roles at once - MUR investigator Stas Tikhonov and the famous violinist Antonio Stradivari.

The heroes of Sergei Shakurov have always been engraved in the viewer’s memory, even minor characters, such as Jonathan Small in the famous film about Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson “The Treasures of Agra”.

The actor created a number of images of historical heroes on the screen. In Svetlana Druzhinina’s series “Secrets of Palace Coups” he played Alexander Menshikov. In the film epic, which was filmed for five years, Alexey Zharkov, Natalya Egorova, Nikolai Karachentsov, Natalya Gundareva worked together with the artist. In Sergei Solovyov’s film “Heiress in a Straight Line,” Shakurov skillfully portrayed himself as A.S. Pushkin, and in the TV series “The Great” as Bestuzhev-Ryumin.

The work of Sergei Shakurov on Sergei Snezhkin’s series “Brezhnev”, where the actor played the Secretary General, stands out. Twenty artists auditioned for the role, but Shakurov turned out to be the most convincing in the image of Leonid Ilyich. The actor recalled about the filming: “It’s just a dream, I haven’t received such pleasure from work for a very long time. As soon as I read it (the script), I exclaimed: “Brezhnev is me!”

Sergei Shakurov worked with both venerable directors and young ones - Yegor Konchalovsky, Nikolai Skuibin, Alexander Pankratov-Bely. “I often helped the guys at VGIK with their theses. It is very useful. An actor should not become important and pompous, he should not become “greasy.” Moreover, it is very important to know what the younger generation breathes and thinks. And it’s impossible to be around great actors and directors all the time, it’s not interesting. The sense of the pulse of life is lost.” So, Yegor Konchalovsky’s actor starred in the acclaimed action film Antikiller.

Not every famous artist had the chance to play as many truly interesting roles as Sergei Shakurov. But besides this, he has many other projects to his credit: about twenty dubbed films, a dozen audio works and filming in a number of documentaries.

Movies

The actor’s first work in cinema was the role of the stubborn recruit Peganov, the main character in the feature film “I am a Soldier, Mom” by Greek-Soviet director Manos Zacharias. It was released in 1966. This picture begins the creative biography of Sergei Shakurov.

The fame of a national idol came to the artist after 8 years and 10 films, along with the role of squadron commander Andrei Zabelin in the masterpiece of Russian cinema “A Friend Among Strangers, a Stranger Among Our Own” directed by Nikita Mikhalkov.

5 years later, for the main role in Alexei Sakharov’s film story “The Taste of Bread,” Sergei Shakurov was awarded the State Prize of the RSFSR. The film was released simultaneously with the publication of Leonid Brezhnev’s book “Virgin Land” and, due to its “virgin land” orientation, was considered by many as a kind of illustration of the work of the General Secretary of the CPSU Central Committee.

Sergei Shakurov himself, among his numerous cinematic works, singles out the famous comedy melodrama by Pyotr Todorovsky “The Beloved Woman of Mechanic Gavrilov,” in which he played the lover of the heroine Lyudmila Gurchenko. It is noteworthy that Vladimir Vysotsky also auditioned for this role. By the way, in 1971, the actors were supposed to star together in the film “Sannikov’s Land,” but Vysotsky was removed from the role at the last moment.

In the 80s, the actor created an extensive collection of film images, including leading roles in the films “Portrait of the Artist’s Wife,” “Who’s Knocking on My Door...”, “The Statute of Limitations,” and “Parade of the Planets.” Actors, scientists, painters, and workers became Sergei Shakurov’s heroes. In the middle of the decade, Sergei Kayumovich starred in the political thriller “Traces of a Werewolf,” as well as in the popular detective story “A Visit to the Minotaur,” where he appeared in the role of investigator and master Antonio Stradivari.

According to the actor, he was always interested in controversial, dramatic, broad images. Shakurov presented a series of such characters to the audience in the 90s. His filmography was supplemented by works in the drama “Disintegration”, the tragicomedy “Suicide”, and the eccentric melodrama “God’s Creature”. In the film “A Dog's Feast,” Sergei Kayumovich appeared in an ensemble cast with Natalya Gundareva and Larisa Udovichenko.

A historical milestone in the biography of Sergei Shakurov was the role of Prince Menshikov in Svetlana Druzhinina’s series “Secrets of Palace Coups.” Filming continued for 5 years in interiors that fully correspond to historical reality: the halls of palaces in Kuskovo, Pushkino and Oranienbaum. While working on the project, Shakurov's stage partners became movie stars Nikolai Karachentsov, Inna Churikova, Vladimir Ilyin, Alexey Zharkov and Natalya Egorova.

In 2005, viewers saw their favorite artist in the historical biography film “Brezhnev” by Sergei Snezhkin, in which Sergei Shakurov played the role of the Secretary General himself.

This series was a Channel One project, so the casting for the role of the general secretary was tough. Two dozen artists auditioned for it, including Bogdan Stupka, Yuri Stoyanov and Rodion Nakhapetov. But even the lack of the required height (special 5-centimeter buskins were created for the actor’s work) did not prevent Sergei Kayumovich from creating an image powerful in strength and charisma.

Konstantin Ernst personally approved Shakurov for the role. The actor justified the trust and turned out to be very convincing in the role of Brezhnev. The artist managed not only to accurately recreate the external image of the hero, but also to convey the internal drama of the character without slipping into a parody.

To this day, viewers are surprised by the similarity of Shakurov’s makeup with the photo of the elderly Secretary General. Moreover, according to the actor, only Brezhnev’s “signature” eyebrows were needed. For this role, Sergei Shakurov received the TEFI Award in 2005. In the film, Sergei Kayumovich played Leonid Ilyich in his adulthood, and the role of young Brezhnev went to Sergei Dolinsky.

Soon several notable projects appeared with his participation. In 2007, the historical drama “Paragraph 78” was released, in which the actor played a member of the Military Tribunal. In the “fresh” film adaptation of Mikhail Bulgakov’s novel “The White Guard” directed by Sergei Snezhkin, Sergei Shakurov played Hetman Skoropadsky.

The historical drama was released in 2011 and was warmly received by viewers and film critics. In the same year, the actor starred in the project “Vysotsky. Thank you for being alive,” playing the role of the father of the great bard. Soon, Shakurov’s repertoire was replenished with works in the series “After School”, “Love for Love”, “Grandfather 005”.

In 2015 - again a historical project, this time about Catherine II. The series “The Great” received high ratings. Sergei Shakurov here reincarnated as Alexei Petrovich Bestuzhev-Ryumin.

And in 2020, fans of the artist’s talent welcomed new films with his participation. These are the detective series “Investigator Tikhonov”, the historical drama “Mutiny” and the disaster film “Crew” by Nikolai Lebedev.

In 2020, Sergei Shakurov turned 75 years old. But the artist is still active and in demand both in theater and cinema.

In addition to acting talent, Sergei Kayumovich has another one - musical. Songs performed by the actor could be heard on Victory Day 2005, at a concert that took place on Red Square. Sergei Shakurov soulfully sang the famous composition “From the Heroes of Bygone Times.” In 2012, the touching composition “Mesmerizing” by Igor Nikolaev appeared, performed by Sergei Shakurov, for which a video was shot.

The artist is known for his sharp statements and does not always restrain himself when he is, as they say, “boiling.” Thus, in 2012, he spoke rather harshly about the Russian national football team, criticizing the athletes for their sluggish and incompetent play.

Personal life

Sergei Shakurov was officially married twice. His first wife is actress of the Central Children's Theater Natalya Oleneva. In their marriage, the couple had a son, Ivan, who later gave his grandparents three grandchildren. In 1984, after living together for fifteen years, Natalya and Sergei divorced.

Shakurov immediately married another artist, Tatyana Kochemasova, who at that time served in the Drama Theater. K.S.Stanislavsky. Two years later, Olga appeared in the acting family. But creative people are rarely happy in long-term marriages. Twelve years of marriage between Tatyana and Sergei culminated in a loud and scandalous divorce. The actor hardly communicates with his daughter and her two children.

The third chosen one of Sergei Shakurov was Ekaterina Babalova, a theater producer, the daughter of a businessman and a teacher at one of the Moscow universities. Ekaterina worked as an administrator for Sergei. Currently, the couple lives in a civil marriage. In 2004, they had a charming son, Marat, in whom his father dotes.

In the life of Sergei Shakurov there are three marriages and three children, each wife is almost a generation younger than the previous one. Now the actor is absolutely happy and claims that with age he has reconsidered his attitude towards the female sex: “I began to be more attentive to the women who walk next to me in life. Previously, I didn’t pay any attention to them at all - well, next to each other. Over the years, I’ve settled down and have time for my family.”

Interview

About the actor

Director Henrietta Yanovskaya: “He does not allow himself to be weak, that’s why he is a man.”

Director Sergei Solovyov: “It’s not often that you meet an actor who is strong in spirit not only on the screen, but also in life. Sergei has always been just like that - a man in every sense of the word. Look at him - he’s handsome!”

About the roles

“I don’t divide my heroes into red and white. I love everyone I play with soul and body.”

And yet, Sergei Shakurov’s special love for costume roles and historical characters is clearly visible. As the actor himself admits: “It’s no coincidence. This is my, as they say now, “trick.” And from a professional point of view, working on a historical role is more interesting: more risk, more tension, more excitement.”

When choosing roles, Sergei Shakurov is strict and principled: “The material, the original source, are important to me. If the material hooks me, then it doesn’t matter to me who its author is. Of course, we are not discussing classics. Then I look at the director and my future partners. I’m capricious in this regard, I won’t work if they start slipping in some popular face, for example from the Comedy Club. I work only with professionals."

Interesting Facts

At the Stanislavsky Theater, Sergei Shakurov was called Mustang, and not because he often rode horses on screen, but because of his love of freedom and independence.

The actor is fond of singing, even studied classical vocals with a teacher and considers music the most important part of his life and profession: “I listened to a lot of Chaliapin, sang him, was obsessed with Mozart, listened to Beethoven. He studied acting with Fyodor Ivanovich Chaliapin.”

Shakurov is a passionate football fan: “I’ve been a fan of Spartak since I was seven years old and try not to miss a single home game. It’s like I’m drawn to the stadium like a magnet. If I have a rehearsal on the day of a match, I will certainly come up with a dozen reasons not to go to work.”

The actor, who has been athletic since childhood, still leads an active lifestyle, which is required by his profession and the title of “young father”: “In the pool I swim a kilometer without stopping in 25 minutes. Of course, in the morning I do push-ups and squats. I exercise just enough to feel invigorated. And Marat and I sing songs every morning. No matter what mood I’m in, no matter how much, say, my head hurts... In our family there’s an attitude towards life.”
