In the small village of Gura Kalvaria, the devout Gershek raised four sons. The family was poor, and the boys had to work to help their parents. Little Wolf caused a lot of problems with his somnambulism. The father found a good way out of the situation - they placed a basin with cold water in front of the boy’s bed, and lowering his feet to the floor in his sleep, he immersed them in ice water. So over time he got rid of sleepwalking.
The father wanted to make the boy a rabbi and for this he resorted to deception. He hired a tramp who appeared before Wolf in the form of an angel and told him that great things awaited him if he chose this path. However, after several years of study, he escapes to Berlin. On the way, he realizes for the first time that he has hypnosis. Instead of a ticket, he hands the conductor a piece of paper, and at the same time looks into his eyes. The hypnotist was born in September 1899 near Warsaw, where many Jews lived. Back then it was still the Russian Empire. There is very little information left about the childhood and family of the famous mentalist. As a boy, he performed in the numbers of traveling circuses of Poles.

Soon he was able not only to fall into a lethargic sleep, but also to turn off any painful sensations by force of will.

In 1939, the Nazis captured Poland and all the brothers, father and relatives were shot in Majdanek. Wolf managed to leave for the Soviet Union on time.

Over time, Abel introduced Wolf to the famous impresario Zellmeister, who helped him end up in a local museum of unusual exhibits.
Messing was faced with the following task: to lie down in a transparent coffin and fall into a breathless sleep. This number perplexed the audience, causing them surprise and delight.
At the same time, Wolf demonstrated phenomenal abilities in the field of contact telepathy. Somehow he managed to recognize people's thoughts, especially when he touched a person with his hand.

At the very beginning of World War II (1939-1945), Messing's father, brothers and other close relatives of Jewish origin were sentenced to death in Majdanek. Wolf himself managed to escape to the USSR.

But most of all, Stalin’s authority put pressure on him. He began to make attempts to destroy the cult of the leader and for this he needed the help of Messing. They could not openly announce that the Soviet people were fighting for a tyrant and a murderer, so they had to act in a roundabout way. He forced Messing to speak at a congress, where he had to read out predictions. One of them was the need to remove the leader’s body from the Kremlin. Wolf categorically refused to play with such things - he made predictions only if he was absolutely sure of them. But he was not going to say what was beneficial to Khrushchev. The fall has begun.
Oblivion
Since 1960, Messing began having problems with performances. At first he exchanged huge halls for village clubs, but soon he was barred from going there too. Khrushchev did not forgive disobedience. After the death of his wife, the artist became a recluse. He lived with two lapdogs, whom he doted on. His wife's sister looked after him. Until his death in 1974, he was never able to return to his previous activities.

Various directors have long wanted to make a film about the life of a mysterious magician. The playwright Gorin was going to stage a play about Messing, but, as they say, a few days later he called his friend and said that he could not - he had lost sleep, his heart was squeezing with anxiety and fear. They say that any attempts to make a film about the soothsayer ended in trouble.
But directors Krasnopolsky and Uskov (authors of the famous series “Two Fates”) were not afraid to take on the film adaptation of Messing’s life. And soon they had to think about rock...
The preparatory period had barely begun when Uskov was hospitalized with a heart attack. His illness crippled him, and Vladimir Krasnopolsky took over the bulk of the filming. And then, in the midst of work, he was struck down by a heart attack. The director ended up in the hospital, but calmed the film crew, demanding not to panic - they say Messing had nothing to do with it.
Nevertheless, emergencies continued...
In the leading role of Messing, the scriptwriter Volodarsky saw exclusively the actor Alexander Abdulov. The actor read the script and was hooked on the role. But... I didn’t have time to film. He died of lung cancer. And the actors started talking about a terrible coincidence - Messing died of pulmonary edema. There were whispers that this was the curse of Messing, who did not want anyone to portray him. As a result, actors Evgeny Knyazev and Roman Grechishkin, who was supposed to play Wolf in his youth, were cast in this role. Alas, the 27-year-old artist did not live to see the premiere...
Two actors died on set
In the film, actor Alferov starred in a cameo role, who, according to the plot, does not believe in Messing’s gift and considers him a deceiver. Everything was ready to work on the scene where Alferov’s character exposes the telepath. But... the actor did not show up to the set. They started calling him at home. And they learned that the artist died right on the theater stage during the performance. This was the first loss of the film group. But... not the last.
A month later, another tragic news struck filmmakers: the actor who played Wolf in his youth, actor Grechishkin, died in a car accident!
In the evening, my fiancée and a friend were crossing the road, where they were hit and killed by a minibus (the driver lost control).

The troubles continue
Even the crisis played along with the evil fate hanging over the film. Funding for the project stopped, filming was frozen until better times. The film group shrugged: “With this picture, everything is unpredictable, just as Messing himself was unpredictable!” However, the producers still found funds, and filming was resumed. However, troubles continued to plague the artists. Thus, in the film, one of the key roles - Stalin, who used the magician's predictions - was played by actor Alexey Petrenko (known for the role of Rasputin in the film "Agony"). During the last days of filming, he came to the Messinga set looking gloomier than a cloud. It turned out that at the beginning of the year, doctors gave his beloved wife Kozhukhova a death sentence - cancer. By the end of work on the project, Petrenko buried his wife. The actor had a lot of downtime before Messing. And the wife was really looking forward to the high-profile premiere, but she never saw her husband in his new role.
They say that today the health of Petrenko himself has deteriorated. He is depressed, depressed, so his relatives fear for his condition...

Wolf Messing made a large number of predictions, but the most famous prediction was the prophecy about the loss of Nazi Germany in World War II.
