The girl's elderly guardians gave her everything they could. But the family experienced financial difficulties. Friends from the music industry did not help. Only Lyudmila Sharonova and Elena Bader remained close friends from the past. The latter organized a charity concert in 2013 to help the relatives of the famous performer. Soon the grandfather became seriously ill and the maintenance of the family fell on the shoulders of the grandmother. From this moment on, Katya Ogonyok’s daughter Lera decides not to sit still and, together with Elena, sets foot on the path of music.
For French chanson, a female performer is not uncommon, just remember the magnificent Lara Fabian. But in Russian chanson, which is more often called “blatnyak”, there are few representatives of the fair sex. Songs about prison life are poorly associated with lightly dressed beauties.
But among Russian chansonniers there are several women whom connoisseurs of the genre know and respect. One of them was Katya Ogonyok . Alas, the career of the stern-looking singer was cut short in her prime. But today Valeria, the daughter of the untimely departed Katya, is ready to appear on stage!
The girl's childhood cannot be called happy. Fans of the late chansonnier know that she died when Lera was only six years old. The elderly grandparents were exhausted to put the child on his feet. Fortunately, Elena Bader, Katya’s closest friend, who has now become Lera’s director, came to the rescue.
The Legend of Katya Ogonyok
Let us remember that the late queen of chanson literally burst onto the scene at the age of 21. Her albums “White Taiga I” and “White Taiga II” became cult.
Fans especially liked that, in addition to the typical “convict” melodies, Katya’s repertoire included many sad songs about love, separation and fidelity.
Heiress to the throne
Ogonyok maintained friendly relations with other singers. These connections subsequently greatly helped her daughter Lera.
For example, Irina Krug, the widow and heiress of the legendary Mikhail Krug, financially supported Katya’s family when her friend suddenly passed away. Perhaps it was communication with her mother’s colleagues that pushed Valeria to the decision to follow in her mother’s footsteps.
Rumors about Katya Ogonyok
There were many rumors about Katya during her lifetime. Fans were sure that the woman had repeatedly visited places not so remote. Later, the singer’s producer denied these gossips, saying that Katya herself spread them for the purpose of self-PR.
Otherwise, Ogonyok was an exceptionally modest woman for her profession. The performer, who was keen on boxing, did not boast of her wealth and success in front of people and rarely gave interviews.
Farewell to Katya Ogonyok
On October 24, 2007, Katya Ogonyok passed away. According to the official version, the cause of the tragedy was acute heart failure coupled with pulmonary edema.
Other sources claimed: in fact, it was an epileptic attack. And some of the gossips are still sure that the singer was killed by cirrhosis of the liver, caused by drug and alcohol addiction.
Today Lera, Katya’s daughter, has already grown up and is determined to continue her mother’s work. The first recordings of the young performer have already appeared on the Internet. Time will tell whether Valeria Ogonyok can become the new queen of Russian chanson!
In an interview, the girl admits that she dreams of earning a lot of money and moving her grandparents to Spain for permanent residence. This is Lera’s way of thanking them for their love and care. We can only wish the young singer good luck.
Lera Ogonyok: first songs
In 2014, still little Lera recorded her first song “Veterok” at the same Vyacheslav Klimenkov site where her mother worked. The talented teenager surprises with his vocal abilities, given the absence of a teacher. She only turned to the teacher once, but this experience had a negative effect - the singer had to restore her individual voice qualities. She also likes to improvise rather than repeat the same keys over and over again.
The public and the world of chanson first saw Katya Ogonyok’s grown-up daughter at the Mikhail Krug festival, and then in preparation for the mass project “Ehh, take a walk!” 2020. The young heiress immediately started from the Olympic Stadium, where the audience heard fresh songs performed by Lera Ogonyok. Part of Russian show business was somewhat surprised that the girl had outperformed the seasoned figures of the genre. But among colleagues there were people like Nastasya Samburskaya and Irina Krug - they warmly welcomed the new star.
When asked about the compliance of the songs with the “thieves” content, the performer replies that such a vision of chanson is a thing of the past. She doesn't sing about life behind barbed wire. Her compositions are more about love and loneliness. The song “Valentine”, which appeared on YouTube before the creation of Lera’s own channel, was especially pleasantly received. Later, the young singer creates an Instagram profile, where she shares her photos next to the great chansonnier - Mikhail Shufutinsky.
Competitor
Natalya Kozhina, AiF.ru: Lera, you recently performed for the first time at the Olimpiysky at the concert “Ehh, take a walk,” there were many representatives of the chanson genre, how did they treat you?
Lera Ogonyok: Well, many even supported me at this concert: Rada Rai, Zheka, Nastasya Samburskaya. Fortunately, I haven’t had any conflicts or disagreements with my colleagues so far. At almost any performance there are artists who say some kind words to me and hug me when they meet.
— Do you think artists, especially in the chanson genre, see you as a competitor?
- I think yes. In addition, not everyone likes the fact that a 17-year-old girl who just started singing, not really knowing anything about the genre and show business in general, performs at the Olimpiysky. Many people go for years to be on this stage, it is not surprising that my debut causes envy in some people. Naturally, no one talks about this openly, but I feel it. For example, there are people who used to communicate closely with my mother, sang her praises, but now, when they see me, they simply pass by and don’t even say hello. The only good thing is that there are not many such artists, yet the majority support me.
— You’re still 17 years old, do you often hear people say, “You’re still little”?
- Happens. This is usually what people say when they knew me when I was very young, when I attended my mother’s concerts. Naturally, now it is unusual for them to see a 17-year-old girl in front of them, especially since she is already standing on stage and singing. But it doesn't bother me at all. “Sweetheart”, “small”, “young” - I consider these words more like compliments.
-Are you really “sweet”?
- How can I tell you... I’m a difficult person, I don’t like to admit that I’m wrong, I can easily flare up or throw a tantrum, I like to insert my “two cents” where it’s necessary and where it’s not necessary, too. It seems to me that when they say about a person “he’s so sweet,” they hardly mean the qualities that I mentioned (laughs).
Not everyone likes the fact that a 17-year-old girl who just started singing, not really knowing anything about the genre and show business in general, performs at the Olimpiysky. Many people go for years to be on this stage, it is not surprising that my debut makes some people jealous
— Lera Ogonyok
- Do you behave this way at work?
- Not really. Oddly enough, I vent all the complaints and grievances to only one person - my director Lena Bader. She knows how to calm me down. If I had expressed them to producer Vyacheslav Klimenkov and other members of our team, my singing career would have ended before it really began. But I’m working on myself: both in terms of character and in terms of appearance. I actively struggle with what I don’t like about myself.
— In some interviews, you said that you and your mother are very similar in character, but in what ways are you exactly different?
“My mother always did much more for others than for herself. At some point I decided to place emphasis differently: the most important thing in life is myself! If I help myself, I will achieve my goals, but if I waste my energy on the people around me, I don’t know where I’ll end up, and I won’t have enough nerves for everyone. In this I am not at all like my mother.
